Finally joining you all! I always missed the pre-order periods for these awesome girls, but I just made my first Layaway payment on a second-hand Magic Mirror tan Siobhan. She's coming from someone in my area, so once I pay her off, I just have to go pick her up! I have one more month to go, as I didn't want to do anything too dumb to my finances, but I've had my eye on that particular doll for a while, and I knew if I didn't grab her someone else would! Now to go figure out how on earth to dress her... I rather like the punky, mohawk styles that some of them were getting. Adorably prickly little nature pixies.
Here's my Tropical Tan Saoirse! I only just ordered her eyes so it will take some weeks before it arrives. Her skin colour looks similar to a local milk tea drink, so I'm calling her Tea. XD
Congratulations! Tea is lovely, although hilariously creepy with her gaping eye sockets. What color eyes will she have? I'm considering calling my coming girl Bramble, as I want her to be a woodland pixie type thing, but I may end up going with something more Celtic...
I ordered two pairs of eyes, one is honey yellow and the other is rose. That is not her actual wig but it was the only one I had on hand. I'm going to make her wig and I think the honey yellow pair will suit it best. I will only know for sure once it arrives. You will never know what sort of name you will go for until your lovely is home. I originally intended to call Tea by her sculpt name, but it didn't feel like it was her name at all. She seems much happier with Tea.
You're definitely right about names changing, Humbug. Ooh, nice eye colors. I imagine a honey color would look amazing with her skin color. Is she going to have a wild wig or something more styled? Right now, I'm planning to make Siobhan a black Tibetan lamb skin wig with pieces from a 9-10 wig I took apart a long while ago. I want it to be a little crazy and wavy. She may end up with one wig and one Mohawk strip...you know, for fancy days.
Her wig is gonna have pretty wild colours. This is the yarn I'll be using. I've never made a wig before, so I'm gonna have to try a practice one first. I've made a couple of test wefts and it's looking pretty good. And oooh! Multiple wigs is sound awesome! Something casual and something fancy! I haven't even started on a wig yet and already I'm thinking of possible styles. I have way too much on my plate already. XD
Excellent choices, Humbug. Both will complement her attractively. Do you plan to leave them twisted for dreads, or will you be brushing them out? Also, has anyone here had luck finding another source for semi-fantasy clothes for these ladies? Patterns, Etsy shops, etc.? I know Pandora does a line for the fairies, but it seems her outfits are a little hard to come by, although lovely. Also, I'm thinking something a little earthier. I still haven't decided if the coming Siobhan is Seelie or Unseelie... Have you other fairy owners assigned your little ones a Court?
I will be brushing them out, I don't see Tea sporting dreads as of now. I actually never thought about assigning my fairy a Court, I'm gonna be dressing Tea in modern clothes because most of my resin family is fantasy and I want something different for a change. I guess there's no reason why she can't be a moden fairy though, like the characters from the Aria comic.
Ah, snazzy. Little modern fairies are also adorable. I had to go look up that comic; seems interesting, with nice art. Someday I want to make a brushed yarn wig. My roommate keeps wool around for spinning and all, so I could probably snag something like that, too. Keep us updated! When I get my next paycheck I'll be able to pay the last layaway payment on my tan Siobhan. Very excited!
Awesome! More faeries! And will do on the wig, although it's not high on the priority list ATM. I'm making a special pair of shoes for Tea and then I'll be doing her face up next. I also need to sew her some clothes and it's only after that i can get to her wig. X3
Oooh. Those will by tiny shoes, Humbug! Fortunately the girl I'm buying has a face up already, which is good since the weather here had been made of air soup lately! Definitely no dolly painting for a while. I not sure if I want her to wear fabric or leather. I keep scraps of leather from other projects, and I always save the thinnest pieces for doll stuff. I could see her in a little buckskin halter and loincloth/skirt type thing. Maybe with beads... Do you have clothing patterns/styles picked out already?
I'm going with something very simple to start with as I'm a total sewing noob. I know I want to stay away from lolita stuff so I want something that shows off that womanly body. I've got bits and pieces from my mom's scrap box, so let's see what I can come up with. I do have a general colour scheme for Tea though. And I have no idea how those shoes are gonna turn out, haha! Almost everything I intend to do for Tea is a first for me. The only thing I have experience in is face ups. X3
Nice. It's always good to stretch yourself and try new things. I'm the exact opposite: everything BUT faceups. So painting my first doll (fortunately SD sized) was quite the nervewracking experience. Fortunately Siobhan is already painted by a very talented local lady, so I don't have to worry about it. On that note, SHE'S PAID OFF! I'll be able to get her either tonight or tomorrow, depending on the other girl's schedule. Turns out we basically live across the street from each other! So excited... ***Edit*** Rsgrhdgfaf! She's here! This will not be her permanent wig, eyes, or dressing style, but she came with extras, so I thought she'd appreciate being clothed. The resin on these girls is amazing. It's nice and heavy and very smooth. She's a lovely even color and she poses easily. This one has double jointed knees and elbows, and she can get her hands all the way over her head, which is rare for dolls. I like her vastly better than the Soom mini fairy I had, which always felt about to break. Her faceplate popped off and landed on the bathroom floor without a scratch! Her name is definitely Bramble.
Congrats! They are lovely aren't they? I wasn't sure what to think about that body at first, but it looks so much better in person and has really grown on me.
Finally finished Tea's face up after a week of rain. Gosh, this is such a bad photo of her and does not do her justice. Maybe I should style her hair to tame the wildness.
Oh, Humbug, Tea looks absolutely lovely! I like the kind of wild hair, actually. She's a fairy after all! I expect she flies around when you're not looking. Great work and styling!
Bramble finally has her own stuff! So thrilled. There was a Ball Jointed Doll convention in my city last weekend, so I took her to find some stuff. People were really enthusiastic to see and hold her, and she got passed around a lot. It’s always exciting to introduce people to new artists and their dolls. While I still plan to make leather armor for Bramble, I figure if she’s a member of the fairy court, she actually has to appear AT court sometimes, so she got a fancy medieval style dress (it’s a stretch velvet, so you can still see her adorable tummy), two wigs (black and auburn), new eyes (Ginarolo 8mm glass in Dark Cola), and the most outstanding leaf and flower clay mask (BJD Outfitters). Here is my excited picture; I promise to take better pictures when I get back from my trip this weekend. It’s so nice to have her looking “complete” even though she will get different outfits later. Also, she seems to gravitate towards greenery, so I’m thinking she must be Seelie Court. Never let it be said that she is sweet and fluffy, though.
I finally took Bramble outside for an actual simple photoshoot in her new dress, eyes, wig, and mask! I will have to make a mini-shoot thread, but here's one of my favorite shots.
May I join with some pictures of my Sinéad? Rakeru sensei painted her and she is just a dream ^_^!! And here with my Moira, Brigid :^D
For people who would like to see more of the fairies, I posted a short photostory I did some months ago. I hope you like it! ; ) /threads/an-elfie-for-fairysbook-mm-saoirse-sinéad-cluny.724154/
Then look beautiful, Nanyalin! Their face ups, wigs, and clothes really complement each other wonderfully. And your photo story is adorable. Naughty Cluny. Also, I forgot to include show Brambles' lovely face! I love this wig on her, although I wish her ears showed more!
@EriChanHime , she is lovely! I like her dark composition. For showing the ears, why don't you try this? When I have tibetan mohair wigs, I always soak them in water, rinse a bit, and leave them dry over the doll's head (I also comb them a bit to tame the shape - and remember to protect the doll's head with some clar film wrap). You can leave it to dry with a drp of conditioner, and perhaps some soft hairband to shape it. When it dries, the wig is much tamer and frames the doll's face, instead of eating it XD. My dolls have sich tiny, delicate faces, that almost any volume in wigs is too much volume! Also, cute mushrooms : D
My poor girl has been sitting around half naked for months, so I finally got off my butt and made a dress for Tea. I'm quite pleased because I'm a newbie at sewing and this is the first proper dress I've sewn. And she will probably wear this one dress for a couple of years. Haha
Love the bold colors! Suits her a lot, and is very flattering to her figure... gotta say, that bum is not the easiest to dress, lol
@EriChanHime and @Humbug, your girls are lovely. (And I keep scrolling back to Nanyalin's Sinead painted by Rakeru Sensei - I just want to keep looking at her)
@Nanyalin Thank you! Her richer skintone is certainly made for bold colours. And yes, her lovely curves made sewing a challenge, which is why I put it off for so long. XD @Tide N Thyme Thanks!
@Humbug Tea looks amazing! You did an outstanding job and the fit is lovely. Love how tropical she looks. I've been doing virtually nothing with my dolls lately, as life came to a screeching halt over December with a car accident, two apartment floods, and an emergency gallbladder removal. :P However, things are finally calming down, and I cleaned my doll area of my bookcase. I have blackout curtains, so the dolls are always out. I neatened things and move Bramble from the shelf to the odd green throne chair. She seems very pleased with herself, I think. We all know she's High Fae.
Okay, so I figured out that the curvier MM girls can wear curvy Barbie Fashionista clothing easy if you're going for a more modern look like my girl. I will post pics soon.
Just put down 1st payment on a tan Siobhan!!! I couldn't wait for a preorder anymore haha she was on the marketplace and had to snatch her up! Cant wait until she gets here! Shes my only non-fairyland body/doll, but I'm sure she will fit in just fine among the elves!
I was wondering, what is the posing like on them? I've been searching and searching, but the only thing I can find is that they 1) can sit (I once had a doll that couldn't sit by herself, that was a short-lived love) and 2) that Keira poses great. But what about the eeelves?
The elves are single jointed in the knees on the old body, new body is all double jointed. My girl has the new issue of sitting and the latches under her butt don't hook into her butt to level her but she has the old body. I also modded my girl to be strung though her torso so it's probably related to that. Idk. But they are solid standers and feel solid too.
Hey guys! Is anyone here joining the preorder that recently opened for these girls? I'm so excited to both have my own and see more around !! (also has anyone gotten a response/confirmation to a preorder email they've sent? it's been a week and I'm worried I messed up somewhere)
I am! I'm getting a tan Saoirse to be a friend for my ns Siobhan. So pleased Nanyalin opened a new preorder.
Congratulations! These dolls are stunning, and the tan is just lovely. I hope you adore her. I just pulled my poor girl out of storage. Between moving last year, lots of off-and-on illness, and the mess with Photobucket, I just didn't do anything with my dolls for a long while. I was debating selling her and figured, no, need to unpack her first. Yeah, not selling her. She just needed a sabbatical. Perhaps she had to check in at the Seelie Court. In honor of her return, I decided it was almost fall, and Bramble here needed to try on a dress I bought for her at a con last year. It's handmade, probably designed for a display Barbie, and reminds me of a Dreamsicle. *snicker* She's not so much mad about it as stunned I got her into it. It was late, and I didn't feel like setting up my camera, so I'll try for better pics later, but I had to share. (FYI for owners of these dolls, a bobby pin makes a perfect dressing hand replacement, to get them into/out of tight sleeves.)
It's an awesome dress for her now it's on, but looking at it closely I'm really impressed you got her arms into the sleeves even without her hands!
Ha! I definitely didn’t have much wiggle room. I had her with me when I bought it, but just held it up to her. I got lucky it fit at all! Her bust is technically a little too low for it (since Barbies are sculpted as if they have bras on, while the Fairies are definitely bra-less) so at some point I’ll need to adjust the hook and eye to hit right between her breasts. It gaps a little from the other side. But it’s quite close. These dolls are really flexible and solidly engineered so dressing her after I got the hands off was actually really fast.
So... for those with a Glendalough Fairy, what are your experiences for clothing? Like what does and doesn't tend to fit, fit for shoes, etc? I saw some mentions of stretchy (?) barbie clothing might fit, and it does seem like some of the measurements are similar to Littlefee, small bust unoa, & Minifee so I imagine there might be some wiggle room there, depending on the cut of the clothing...? I also noticed her feed are .5 cm shorter than minifee moe so I wonder how well shoes made for moe would fit? Sadly it doesn't seem like many people have these dolls, which is a shame. They're so pretty!
I've finally made her a wig and I'm delighted to be able to post photos of my Saoirse from the last preorder. P1100923 by Tide N Thyme, on Flickr I wasn't sure abour the colour (and she may yet end up a redhead) but this was the darkest brown fible in my stash so I went ahead and the colour has grown on me. I also can't share photos of her with Siobhan yet because I decided Saoirse looked best in smaller eyes and now I have a matching set (different colour, same size) on order for Siobhan. I'll come back to post once they arrive.
I found someone who was selling a magic mirror fairy on Facebook and she said hers was wearing curvy Barbie clothes but I still haven’t found shoes.
I’ve since got a Sinead (nanyalin’s photo model, actually!) and while this might not be the most helpful now, littlefee boots kind of fit, albeit a little oversized. Maybe I can take a photo of her later but I also managed to her mine to wear a 1/6 action figure pirate shirt, although finding some shorts or pants for her has been another matter slowly trying to get her hobbit outfit assembled, ahaha.
