He is very much able to stand on his own! He stands much better in shoes and you do have to play with him a bit and make sure the chest joint is tilted a bit toward the back. I wouldn’t leave him unattended for a long period of time lol but overall he has the same general engineering that LUTS bodies have! He’s a bit tricky to get his joints to engage just because of his size and I’m simply not used to it yet! xD
Every time I see one of these big boys, all I can think about is that Saturday Night Live sketch with SZA. That Vampire Abadon has no reason being that beautiful... a vixen he is!!
@green_judy Can’t wait to see more pictures! Such a soft face and I love how his eyebrows have been done. ❤️ Congrats!!
I just received my RSDF doll too! It's Saturn And ordered RSDF Abaddon Vampore version (x Because his head and hands are awesome c:
@tamara-ishihara Congrats! Lovely to see Saturn here~ He looks much bigger than your other dolls! Amazing! And I'm so excited to see your Vampire Abadon! He is stunning.
@taykung yes, he is really big And for information: there he is with my smallest boy - Iplehouse S.I.D (~65 cm) and my biggest boy - Loongsoul 80 on a platform shoes (~83 cm)
Ah, Saturn is so cool!! Thank you for sharing these shots. Has he started sweeping up and keeping track of your finances yet? He looks like he wants to Seeing all these beautiful blushed hands makes me wish I'd gone that route too, but I know myself well, and I think I would probably have that blushing off their poor little mitts in a matter of months. Note, I did have a problem with my Mars's headcap; parts of the thin resin flange inside the cap broke off somehow in transit, and were floating around in his head. I've emailed Luts to see if they can send a replacement headcap. Fortunately the main head (and beautiful faceup) are unharmed. I haven't yet assembled and dressed my Mars, Aleph, but I already get a surprisingly calm, easy, congenial energy from this doll. It's hard to explain! Like yes, he's a Giant Man. But he's also a reasonable person
@tamara-ishihara eeee i love that comparison shot! It's so crazy to see him totally eclipse the Loongsoul boy! Also really really excited that you ordered the Abaddon Vampire. I'm obsessed with those hands too. That's so awesome. This is so funny! LOL I get what you're saying though with he seems like a 'reasonable person'. xD I really hope LUTS can send you a replacement headcap but I'm glad nothing else was damaged.
A doll this big should be paying rent. It's a good thing you put him to work right away He's SO adorable, I love his gentle face!
Assembled and dressed: Meet Aleph. A few quick phone shots, no color correction and not much by way of composition. Just... I love this Giant Man. Spoiler: pic 2 I was a little worried he would dominate my small living space and be a bit shocking to my senses. I was expecting a degree of overwhelm based on those photos of Luts employees standing barely a head taller than the dolls or carrying them around like unusually lanky toddlers. But for me, there is no overwhelm. He is at ease in my space and fits peacefully into the environment, like he's always been here. I'm besotted. Spoiler: pic 3 A few technical notes: the wig is great, but very tight; a proper stylist will manage it better than I did. Apologies for the slightly wonky eye positioning, I'll work on that. The clothes are very well-made; fabrics are really nice, and very thin to reduce the bulk you sometimes get when you make BJD clothes from human-sized fabric. Only one buttonhole put up a fight. The shoes are understated, but very well-made IMO, and very appropriate to the suit. Dressing the Giant Man will be sure to prove interesting. While I'd love to see Sadol, FreedomTeller, et. al. take on this size, I don't expect it. While I do hold out hope for nice Royal Delf ensembles from Luts, I have begun my quest for Giant Man clothing in the clearance toddler/child section of the Saks website. I found a 100% wool Barbour pullover sweater for a really good price; it will need shrinking. I think in general pure wool sweaters might be the answer for the Giant Man: knit to fit, or shrink to fit. I hope that other Royal owners will post their kid clothing sizing insights in this thread as we go forward. In short: utterly delighted
@green_judy Aleph is stunninggggg in that outfit~ His wig is lovely, too! I adore him! And I'm glad you don't feel overwhelmed with your Giant Man. Now that he's home, maybe he could help you around the house or go shopping for you?
@taykung I agree, this styling works really well for Mars. I'm giving him a few days to get over his jet lag before we discuss the terms of the rent, LOL. Bonus spam that gives a little sense of the scale...!
I hope you're not tired of Royal Delf Mars I thought I would share a few pics of the sweater I got him. This was a steal in 100% wool. I haven't attempted any shrinkage yet; it seemed like it might be helpful to see how a kid-sized sweater fits these guys. This is a Barbour size 6, the smallest they had. The collar is out of scale with him, but I still think the effect is pretty good. If I do decide to shrink it I will need to be careful not to overdo it... Spoiler: close-up
Oh he is absolutely precious @green_judy! Even with the loose collar, I think the sweater looks adorable!!
I think the sweater looks great. The collar might be a bit loose, but he's adorable in it! @green_judy
@overlordu and @taykung thank you so much...! I'm very pleased with this first foray into human clothing for his Royal-ness.
does anyone know if there is dealers out there selling Royal Luts in long layaway? I would like to own 1 but can only do this if it is a long layaway. hoping for a 1 year layaway. Dollmore is soo flexible with layway wish it was like this with luts. Thank you
WOW he is cool and cute! Is that a real laptop?! His sweater is so cute! And the presence is likely to be enormous. I may not be able to handle the weight, but I think when I go out, I'll protect my house for you and tell you if I came back safely!
Thanks, @Change ! I think he might actually be a pretty good room guardian! (Especially protecting against people who are a little scared of BJDs!)
The only dealer I can think of that does super long layaways is BJDivas, I know they do layaways that can last over a year if you want them to. I do suggest reading through their (as well as all dealers) customer service reviews in this forum, though. Everyone has a different experience!
Just Lyle and Darcia hanging out, lmao! I thought I would take a pic of my first LUTS doll (SDF Abadon from 2008) and my big guy. ❤️ A kind of take on the ~how it started/how it’s going meme. xD l’m also excited to start my vacation in a couple of days as me and my husband are finally going to be able to get to the city to do some shopping so I’m going to be looking around for some toddler/child clothing that’ll fit Lyle… hopefully LOL!
A fast snap of Aleph Major in Boden. These items are both Size 4. The pants are baggy af but fit in the leg; they're drawstring, so they can be worn, but they give off a casual vibe. The tunic top is larger than I was hoping, but you can see that the shoulder fit is not terrible. Aleph has finished his afternoon espresso, lucky dog. My verdict, after several months with the Giant Man: this enormous guy is not going to be for all collectors, simply because of the sheer weight. But I LOVE seeing him just chilling in my space. I get a serotonin boost whenever I see him. I am a happy Royal Senior Delf owner.
That size is just way too scary for me, but I also do not have room for it. I was wondering though whether or not a doll this large would fit in with other smaller dolls, an actually it does although it is way much larger! This is perfect for a giant kind of character, or a different kind of species that are this large, like the Na'vi to a human!
I'm just a lurker in this thread as a lover of giant dolls, but I had to say I got a serotonin boost just from seeing your pic! He looks so cozy, it made me smile
@green_judy You're so right about just the presence of the doll is a serotonin boost, lmao! My giant dude is just so fun to pose him around the house and just seeing him hanging out is awesome. I'm trying to think of some jump scare places to set him up for my husband LOL Here's Lyle just waiting for me to do his makeup, lmao! He unfortunately didn't get any new clothes because with all the wild fires taking over Canada we had to cancel our city trip, but next time, boy will be spoiled!
New Royal just dropped! Meet ARES He is really lovely--I love the expression in the eyes. But for me, by far the most dangerous part is that this incredible outfit, including the sword and sword hand, is AVAILABLE SEPARATELY.
The size and proportions of these boys are beautiful. I love the big dolls but after owning a Dollmore Trinity I do not love the weight and bulk of that size, this seems like a good compromise as he is more slender and not as chunky as the trinity. I really like Mars and Saturn. I wonder if there's any chance they would release a female companion of this size, that would be really cool.
Once you get over the general 'giant' shock, he's quite agreeable and poseable, in my opinion. The upscaling of the Grand Senior body works pretty well, I think. Speaking of Trinities... I just saw the Trinity Man on Dollmore's site, clocking in at 122 cm (!!!). Seems these are meant to be to scale with the Trinity girls...?
Royal Trousers? I've done okay getting my Royal Mars various shirts and sweaters for toddlers--but pants have been a problem. That 13-inch waist and those long, long legs...! I am tempted to commission some clothes for him. I'd love to hear suggestions and recommendations for makers. Who might be up for dressing a house brownie?
Does anyone know what these dolls weigh? I read through the thread fairly quickly, so I'm sorry if I've missed it! I'm so curious. They're more than half my size, but I love their faces!
I haven't put my Royal Mars on a scale, but he sure is hefty. He's a two-armed lift, no question. I've never handled a Maine Coon cat but... maybe in that department? I feel like he weighs less than a toddler of equivalent height... but not by much. Here's Aleph in his new winter coat. This coat was made for a toddler and unfortunately exhibits some bulkiness that interferes a little with the scale illusion. But the fit is pretty good. He is ready for the next storm...
Not that I can tell...! I suspect Luts is more interested in its 78 line. I need to find a tiny tailor...
Dropping in with a very rushed and ill-composed snap of Aleph Major (Royal Mars) wearing a Dollmore Trinity boy vinyl jacket and tank top. Dollmore seems more committed to its Trinities than Luts is to the Royals, so maybe we'll see more clothes for that body as time goes on. The tank fits great in the chest but runs a bit long - it's designed, I think, to be a skintight muscle shirt on the Trinity boy, but is still quite wearable by RSDF. The jacket, as you can see, runs very long in the arms. I think this fit will depend on your tolerance -- I don't mind it overmuch, and at least the details and proportions are a bit more to scale and appropriate for an adult doll, compared to the toddler and infant clothing choices out there. YMMV. I also picked up a poet's shirt with floofy sleeves; when I have time to try that on, I'll update here.
