Luts Royal Senior Delf Discussion Thread

I am so happy I resisted ordering a doll during the first half of the spring event because I kept feeling like something I REALLY want is coming and LUTS totally did that to me! LOL

I need one of these huge boys stat! Now to convince my husband of that so I can move around some funds.

 

Omgosh! 105cm. Wow, Luts really went grande. I think they are super cool and handsome... but having ordered a Grand SDF I think I hit my size limit. Are the Royal SDF limited to 10 overall?

I think... the 10 worldwide might refer to this line in the product details:

* We only sell the first 10 units at a discounted price.

But honestly... overall it does read strangely and is a little confusing!

@Dybbuk I'm thinking Tide! Though... Abadon is speaking to me again, I have no idea what it is with that sculpt. xD

 

Forget the grand senior delf comparison, I need to see one next to a human! How much do these boys weigh?? How much will shipping be? Will they need a crate?!

I can't imagine having a doll 2/3 of my height. He'd need his own chair! This is over 1/2 scale unless they are trying to make a 6'9" man.

I can't wait to see these guys. Please tell me how your male S/O reacts if you get one. There's not going to be anything small about their presence, that's for sure.

The 10 limited thing I'm sure is just for the 18% discount. There's a time limited 15% discount for the ones after.

That Mars is fetching for sure, but I'd have to build him a chair.

 

I have absolutely no idea what the heck I would even do with a doll that size, but my god the idea of an absolutely giant Abadon just I really really love Tide as well, but Abadon just does things to me lol

 

Wow! I've noticed that BIGGER has been a trend in BJD's lately, and it seems like Luts is really on the forefront! Making those 90cm Angel of Dream boys look short.

Not my cup of tea, but these ginormous fellas would certainly be interesting display pieces. I can imagine them as mannequins to showcase fashions in the window displays at a high-end clothing store.

 

I've been wishing Luts would release a 1/2 scale doll for years but unfortunately not like this. I want a 1/2 scale big baby or just a non-mature big doll. Still holding out hope, but Luts has changed their aesthetic direction so I doubt they'll go back to the old styles. Still happy that they're still releasing new dolls. Looking forward to seeing any of these that people get.

 

I don't need him, but I am debating. Good lord he is expensive.

My problem is I don't really like suits. I'm sure they're release more clothing in the future, but what would I even dress him in? He can't be standing around naked until then. The idea of a giant Tide or Eddy or Saturn

 

I actually love suits, but I'm wondering about the clothing side too. I wonder if this size is going to blow up (no pun intended LOL) or if it will always be very niche and therefore hard to dress.

I was very happy to see Sadol and FreedomTeller are both going to be clothing the SSDF Superior body, but would there be enough RSDFs running around for that to be profitable for doll couturiers?

 

I was a little bit confused when I first saw RSD on their site last night. I thought they'd release bigger model delf early, but no. It's a giant!!! I was shocked and excited as soon as I read the page. I won't get one but am looking forward to seeing yours!

P.S. Mars is soooo handsome. I can'tttt!

I think I’m going to have to wait closer to the deadline before I can order one so I’ll probably miss out on the discount! Like a lot people expressing shipping cost concerns, I’m in that boat too, when I did a ~mock checkout the price seemed to jump about 200 dollars more (I’m in Canada) which not great but also… I think I’m so desensitized to high shipping now I’m thinking could also be worse. xD

That cute tiny delf in his hands~ I can't see more than that because I don't have an account. Anyway, RSD makes GSDF looks smol (like a child next to their dad). What an interesting size!

 

He is definitely too big for me 75cm is my limit lol. But I can't wait to see owner pictures from when you all buy I will keep a lookout

My SSDF Mars just shipped lol, I really want Luts to post a comparison to that size cause if the 105cm boy makes GSDF look small, SSDF is going to be TINY.

I doubt that these will ever be a basic release (available all year round), but I do hope they put them up for order periods somewhat regularly. Weird sized dolls draw my eye, I already have plans for a couple of the 90cm AOD boys now that they got the revamped body and heads, and I'm tempted to add a couple of these guys to my wishlist/plans for the future (the very distant future, that's a hefty price tag but I'm sure it's worth it!)

Excited to see who orders one and can't wait for future pics!

I asked Luts a few questions, like if they ever plan on releasing them again, if they plan on releasing more clothing and if they ever plan on releasing other heads. I'll post here what they answer with, but I'm hoping they do it again. His price tag was unfortunate timing with the rest of their event so I'm hoping they don't make a decision based only off this one run.

This is just "WAY" too big for me, plus I do not have a home for giants like that Been wanting a GSD Mars for a while but that's where my limit goes when it comes to BJD sizes!

I would only have room for one doll the size of a GSF anyways, so a RSD is out of the question

And I like holding my dolls. Sometimes I place one of them in my laps. RSD is too big for me. I can't carry this big guy around the house.

 

I actually found the 75 cm tall doll to be scary at first, but that's nothing in comparison to that giant

Personally I feel the more human sized a doll becomes the more uncomfortable I get about it. Too much doll for me XD Can't wait to at least see the owner pictures though.

So looking forward to someone doing a box opening on this guy. I will want to have one in the future but hard to say, I wonder if any other company is thinking of making large size boys now. The smallest I have seen and like is from Granado now the biggest I like is luts. Fun fun hobby!!

 

I still adore the Giant Man. I have no idea where I'd put him. I don't expect I'd be toting him around much, so his weight, vast as it may be, is not a deal-breaker for me. He could hold court from the corner, seated in some kind of handsome mid-century modern chair designed for a small, expensive child. He could write down his thoughts with a golf pencil. Just the sheer question of the 1:2 scale alone is exciting and inviting.

I totally understand that Giant Man falls into the uncanny valley for some (many?) people. But Giant Man would not be for other people; he would be for me, and for photography experiments involving cheating scale to make him the same size as his surroundings.

Even if this is the last Giant Man Luts or anyone else ever makes, even if clothing him turns out to be an ordeal, I adore him.

Heavenly. But costly! Careful, careful thought is required.

 

I know Dollmore have the 110 cm tall Trinity Doll woman. meaning if they ever decide to make a man he'll have to be even taller!

If Dollmore oneday do, for those who are interested in the RSDF, a Triniti Man might be a good alternative as a friend, family or lover of Luts's RSDF.

"The uncanny valley", it does get a bit like that for me At least when it comes to have one irl, since I don't have the biggest space to keep my dolls. I don't have a spacious separate doll room, like some might have. Only my bedroom in which I try to fit my whole doll hobby alonside with some of my other hobbies, and without making my room seem suffed and cluttered with things!

I could definitely have given the chair by the window to a RSDF to sit on, but that would have been the only place I'd be able to keep one. And I'm the kind of person who like to create larger BJD families and such, so having just one lone RSDF wouldn't have felt right! Besides that chair already belongs to my SDF65 Sweety Bliss and CP Delf Juri b 07

 

I'm blown away by the size of this guy!! They're going to have to ship him in a coffin. I wonder if 1/2 scale can wear kids clothes lol.

 

I've actually been looking at pictures of Dollmore Trinity with their owners to try and wrap my head around the size. B i g It might be possible for Giant Man to wear some kid clothing, but I think the proportions would be a little off. I'm just guessing, but generally his arms and legs will be longer and his waist narrower, even if he's the same height as a 4 or 5 year old kid. (Which... amazing even to contemplate...)

If I end up with a Royal Mars (I just crushed a major work deadline and I am in a Delicate State of Mind when it comes to dollie celebrations) I might invest in an inexpensive item just as a proof of concept. A hoodie?

 

Well! I was able to order a RDF Tide today! I got the white skin option, with a face-up and this was completely made possible thanks to my grandmother who went absolutely crazy when I showed him to her as something I ~jokingly wanted for her to buy me for Christmas. She came through and wants to be around when I'm opening him. xD

I'm so excited!!

That photo with the doll and the woman holding hands is taking me out lmfao! I'm 5'3 and 105 cm is a little over 3 feet I believe so I feel I'll have a similar scale with him. Those photos just made me more excited to have this giant lounging around my home.

@taykung my husband keeps saying he's going to keep thinking there is a small child lost in the house so you're not far off from the doll looking like a human child. LOL!

 

My favorite is the matching bubble teas where they are sitting.

It's great to have these shots. Interesting that he actually comes across as a little less chonky than the Trinity dolls, probably because he's actually at a different (smaller) scale than they are. Less small child, more... house brownie?

While I am personally obsessed with Mars, I am really looking forward to seeing other sculpts at this scale. @sovayne I'd love to hear what made you particularly choose Tide (one of my own favorites)!

Oh man, that would be lovely to see the RSDF in something other than a suit and a hanbok sounds like a lovely idea for him! I'm hoping they offer some historical/fantasy outfits too. I have a feeling they'll roll out more outfits as time goes on because LUTS does seem like whatever dolls they stock, they like to give some good clothing options but, I'm hoping they're not all formal wear/street style. Though that's most likely how I'll style him, I'd love to see something else!

@green_judy I actually chose Tide for a couple of reasons! I have a Mars as a GSDF and an Abadon as a SSDF and SDF so I knew I didn't want to dip back into the Abadon pool, LOL. I wanted a certain look for 'maturity' I guess and I went back and forth between Saturn and Tide. Tide definitely won once I really got looking at his blank sculpt and fell in love with his sharp nose and pronounced philtrum. I think he's going to look like the ~stoic boy of my dreams. xD And to branch into something else that you mentioned a few posts above, I've always admired Trinity dolls but there was something that sort of held me back, I think you hit it for me when you mentioned that RSDF were less 'chonky' and YES that's totally it for me.

 

Tide is so elegant...! I think he will make an amazing RSDF.

I also have a soft spot for Saturn, but in my world, The Big Guy has to be Mars. (This is very very embarrassing to admit but I actually have a Mars incoming already, on the Superior (slim) body...)

@green_judy He's cute! I have one on the SDF65 slim body. But I think his head looks a bit too small for the RSDF body. Maybe it's just me.

 

You have a point there...! I think the smaller head/bigger body style probably works better with more mature-looking heads, although mileage definitely varies, and I've noticed my own tastes slowly altering as I spend more time looking at (and styling) dolls with this configuration. Personally, it's taken a while for me to assimilate this look in BJDs; it's very different from the (Volks-influenced?) style that's widely found, with more youthful proportions with larger heads and slighter bodies.

 

It's done. He's ordered. Mars in white skin with the whole kit and caboodle, suit too. Had to adjust some other plans to make this happen, but I think it will be worth it.

 

Yay! I ended up getting the suit too and the wig and shoes... probably so while I'm waiting for more clothes and such to release I don't have a naked doll sitting around the house! I'm excited to see your two Mars together!

 

I just saw some nice new Royal gear on Luts's Twitter...! It's good that they are supporting this crazy new size.

It feels so ridiculous to have two (2) Mars (Martians?) at 2 different sizes. But I couldn't resist.
