I agree, I think they're trying to take on too much! And because of that the resin quality is going down I hope they take note of all the bad press because then they might be able to do something to increase resin quality! Even if I had the money to buy a Soony now, I'd think I'd rather wait until it looks as if they've atleast tried to do something to stop the bad things happening to our dolls!
Luts have the best dolls in my opinion and I know from experience it tears you apart to know that your doll has broken and it wasnt YOUR fault
I really love luts dolls, and I was considering buying from them. But if its a hit or miss situation then I may not, considering it will take over a week just for the doll to arrive in australia, so if its broken upon arrival theres nothign i could do about it.
thavron>> if it's broken upon arrival, there is something you can do. just not when you've had it for months. that kind of thing.
Luts are pretty good. They sorted me out after a while. I think one of the things is you have to go about tackling the situation in the right way
pyrope>> yeah, determination not to give up and constantly reminding them about it certainly help too. it makes it harder for them to ignore you. X3
I'm sorry that happened to you, though I do understand their decision because it had been two months. I've ordered five times from LUTS all together. Three dolls and numerous clothing articles, bonus heads, hands and eyes. I've not yet once had any issue with them. So as far as I'm concerned, I'm shooting 100% Also, another thing to keep in mind, the people posting here are posting about negative service. With a large company, mistakes are made. You're hearing it being 'hit or miss' because no one that gets GREAT service posts as often as someone who feels slighted. I think you can trust LUTS again.
o__o Woah. While I agree, yeah you should have checked it sooner, but I don't think the way they reacted was right... and that damage is just obscene.
there is no such thing as a "small customer" bread 17 you have your own feelings and the like. You have the right to not like what you don't like, and that happens to be luts. I'm sorry things like this happen to very nice people. I'm also sorry for people giving you the "mother hen" discussion you know what happened ... thanks for bringing this up. Think about it this way maybe it would help you feel better "you've helped one (*namely me)" and maybe this will spread to others. ^_^
Wow, this stinks. I was planning to get a Senior Delf soon but now I'm not so sure. I didn't think that quality would be a issue. Someone once told me that there isn't really a big quality difference between companies. But from what I've remembered visiting the Volks in Torrance, I didn't recall seeing any flaws. Maybe I wasn't looking close enough. Can I get a recommendation by anyone? I was also looking at dollmore model dolls. I'm not sure of anything anymore.
i've purchased 2 senior delfs from them...both came to me perfectly fine. ^^ i've also recently gotten a breakaway from them. aside from the fact that he's kicky as hell (completely resolvable with a bit of patience in posing) he's fine too. ^o^
I don't know about LUTS dolls because I don't own any... but I wouldn't worry at all about ordering from Volks. I only have one of their dolls but he's perfect, and I went to many Sumikas and to Sato while I was in Japan, and the people working for Volks are some of the most amazing, polite, helpful people I met in the whole country. They really take special care of their dolls, and treat them almost like children. Their customer service is top-notch, and no matter where I was, the workers were very careful with the dolls and absolutely devoted to what the customer wanted. The head of Volks (Mr. Shigeta) stopped to talk to my friend and I on several occasions when we went to Dolpas, and when Williams came out and I got confused by what time to be in line because of the language barrier, Mr. Shigeta's daughter came to talk to me about it and even gave me her cell phone number, and said she would do her best to get a doll for me even though I wasn't there in time. I also once emailed to see if I could order a pair of eyes from the online store in a color and size they didn't have in stock, and they emailed me back the next day saying they would get me a pair as soon as possible even if it wasn't in stock online. I would never think twice about ordering anything from Volks, be it only a pair of shoes or a whole doll. I hope that's a good enough recommendation? To get a bit more on topic, bread17, I see there isn't anything in this thread from you in a while...I really hope you didn't give up on getting a new leg part from LUTS or, since MiniFee have moved, from FeePle. There is no way any of that was your fault and I think they absolutely should have helped you if they value their customers or their reputation. Did you try to get anything fixed once MiniFee moved???
This...is worrysom. D: I keep hearing about quality issues from Luts recently, and I wonder if I should be ordering an Aru anytime soon... I mean, CP resin is different form the Kid Delf/Senior Delf line, so...which is having problems? It's kind of hard to search this topic for latest discussion...
it is hard to say. i always keep and eye on this stuff, and from what ive seen, there has been no 'defects' with the kid delfs - but sometimes they will send the incorrent item; like any company sometimes does ^^ dont worry about it. most defects were through the delfs
Geez that inside of the calf is really uneven, and the hole is huge compared to other companies! ><' I've had shoulders chipping on CP dolls (two of my dolls have that @_@), and I think my sister has delt with the ankle part cracking as well. But I've never seen the resin all cracky/chapped like that! >.< (Or at least that bad)
Yeah, I'm totally agree with what Datsuki said here. You don't have to worry about Kid Delf, enedving! Up until now, I've never heard any bad things about kid delfs.
I'm glad to hear that! I hope my cherry dreaming is fine when she arrives! But then again I did order just a delf head alone and reading about some of the previous things said...
Just a bit of clarification on this, Luts never do sell dolls "in stock". They were casted after your order, which means it'll take a while. It's just taking longer lately than what it has been, though.
the-sinister>> did you get your doll with a faceup? the faceup option often adds quite a bit of waiting time.
i never hand problem with luts. When i got my Vladirmir, he was i mint condition. no problems at all.
haha...man oh man....the only thing i got from luts are floating heads...and those are second hand...and a few small items that can't be broken so easily....plus time isn't on my hand to talk and ship thing back..so nope no luts bodies for me it seem...unless it second hand and has no damage. sorry for what you have to go through, must have been so stressful.
wow... I didn`t read the entire thread, but I`ll sure do it when I have some time... But the first post really made me worry A LOT about Luts dolls... I love them... and have a NS open eyes Lu-Wen head. And this one have a story too... I bought this Lu-Wen to help my friend to have a BW type 3 body for her BW open eyes BV Breakaway head... We boght the doll and some other items... and waited anxiously for the arrival. But when the box arrived, we noticed that the doll came in NORMAL SKIN. =/ Well... they could change any one of the items we bought... but they changed the doll! A Limited doll... Luts said they could change the doll for free, but we live in Brazil and here we pay a custom fee of 60% of the declared price. So if we still wanted the BW body, we'd have to pay a high fee again... I'm very scared with the first post in this thread. Really
Well I just barely read the thread. First, I have to say I agree, the doll should have been checked thoroughly upon arrival. I also want to say, that while I understand that you were sure the doll was safe in the box, that I have lived in a dorm room, and really nothing was safe T_T Again, I understand your unhappiness, but it might have been luck of the draw? I've gotten well over 13 orders from luts (all with a doll of some sort) over the past three years, and have nothing but a good service record with them! I'm sorry you had a bad experience ^_^
Can I just say that my girl came with small scratches ALL OVER her torso (front, back, top half, bottom half...). T.T I was horrified. Still am, although I sanded her down and shes alright now. It was obvious as heck in bright light! D:
im hoping for luts's sake that it just happened to be a rare mistake. perhaps whoever checks the quality of those dolls at the company should be held responsible.its sad to pay so much for tough skin or a crack
I guess that crack in the MNF elf Shushu's ankle was caused the by the elastic tension... As that special part of the body was thin in resin, the ankle ball tensioned the resin, so the tube opened, and cracked... I think the ankle is the area of the doll's body that takes all the pressure because of the elastic tension. They should make this area almost indestructible to ensure that the ankle will resist to the tension. I hope you can understand what I tryed to say ^^' my english isn't good, so I'm trying hard to be understood
Wow... what a horrible situation! I'm sorry for all of you that got dolls with less-than-great resin quality from Luts. *sends hugs and good wishes* I have bought around 5 dolls from them and they were perfect. In the end I just kept 3 of them, but I have never had a problem with either the service or the quality of their items. Now I know more than ever than I won't let go of my Delf resins for anything in the world though! O:
I have personally never had a problem with Luts or their customer service, but I bought a body off of a DoA member whose doll arrived with a piece of the neck chipped completely out. The reason for this was because the doll was strung too tight, much, much too tight for the resin to be able to hold up to the pressure and in the end, it just snapped. Luts apparently told her the same thing, "sorry, you should have checked your doll over earlier, we can't do anything about it, thanks for your money". She only had the doll seven days before they realized it. Unidoll has a card that comes with their dolls as a "money-back-guarantee", which allows you to replace your doll if something happens to it in the mail. Luts should have that. Sorry about your dolls. That really bites.
ok, no offense, but that picture doesn't look right. (Not saying it's your fualt at all...) but i've ordered TONS of dolls from Luts...i have three luts dolls, and have had as many as four at once. That internal part of the ankle doesn't look right. It looks like it's been altered or whittled down with a tool of some sort. I do have to agree, that it is strange for you to wait so long to finally ask them to replace it. Based on what they said in the PM they sent back, they too wanted to know why u waited so long? I've had four luts dolls, and have never had this quality issue. As of late, i've not noticed many complaints on their quality, as much as on their customer service.
I just got a Luts Standard EL with kicky legs (wouldn't stand) and a dodgy locking mechanism in the neck. Granted, I got it off eBay, but I have communicated with the seller, and she seems legit when she says she got it that way. (The doll doesn't seem to have been dropped/restrung/weather worn either - no external physical damage.) According to the seller, he was only 4 months old. I know BJDs in general can develop issues over time and with wear, but they shouldn't COME that way. After all, these are not Barbies being ground out by the millions. With the price tag and wait time, you should get perfection every time. Every doll/piece (and even clothes/wigs) should be inspected thoroughly BY THE COMPANY before it is packed and shipped. I agree that you should inspect your items for possible shipping damage when you get them, but I would never think to inspect the inside of the sockets or anything. A mixed reputation is not good enough for me, and even with the love I have for my gorgeous EL, I'm sad to say I would never purchase another Luts product again.
I wonder...Would this be a fault from Luts, or from CP? Since Luts is just the store that CP sells some of their dolls through? Also, I have a few CP dolls, and none of them have the chapped looking skin. I have no idea why they said that that condition was normal!
Kicky legs is easy to fix. Just restring your El with a slightly longer length of elastic for the legs. (Dolls rarely come with proper stringing, no matter who made them... Learning how to restring will save you a lot of grumbling.)
Those pictures look like the shins were jammed onto another dolls ankle joint that caused the damage. I have more than 10 dolls from Luts and I never had a single problem with them. It is true that they take an average of 60 days to deliver a doll with faceup, that their resin in thin in comparison to Volks and that their BW dolls yellow after a couple of years. Nevertheless, their sculpts are truly unique pieces of art that are outstandingly different that any other doll company. They are typically backed up with orders, so I am pretty certain they won't go out of business without your purchases. Kicky legs: Be patient posing your dolls, its probably elastic tightness.
it does look like that ankle isn't the right size for that shin doesn't it... That would explain the whittled look comicbookartistboi pointed out. like, it was dug out in an attempt to make it fit... 0_o Edit: (grah! just noticed how old this thread was... sorry)
I'm not sure how true this is, but I heard that Luts had been experimenting with their resin by adding sawdust to it. This apparently makes them very easily broken and shattered, which I assume is what all that cracking is. And apparently thats why Fairyland separated from them. So my respect for Luts has gone down a little...
i have no idea where you heard this but its ridiculous. fairyland makes the delf dolls and supply them to LUTs, it is the same resin
I haven't heard that Fairyland is separating itself from Luts at all. It does not make sense to add sawdust to the resin, why would they bother to mix it evenly? It would be more work for them and a stained product. Does not make any sense to me. ~Gus
Nope. 'Complete and total bull. Whoever you "heard" that from is either misinformed or intentionally yanking your chain. The Delfs use exactly the same resin that the Fairyland MNF and Feeple dolls use. They're cast by the same company. Luts' in-house lines (Senior, Zuzu, SUper Senior and Kid Delfs) do use a different kind of resin, but having handled a few of those in-person, I can tell you that the Real Skin resin is neither exceptionally light nor overly fragile. It's a slightly different color and texture from CP's, but still very solid.
I know a source for that rumor, but I won't reveal it. Thank you Brightfires for clearing up that the rumor about sawdust is in fact a rumor. Also, neither of my El's have that skin problem. and I've never had a problem with their quality. Long wait times are with any overseas company.
I know I'll never buy anything from Luts, after hearing your story. I hope they fix things for you. They are way too popular a company to send people such shoddy goods. If they want good will on a site like this, they should fix your problem. Nothing should break a few days after you get it, especially when it was sitting in a box, and, if it does, the company should rush in to repair the damage. They must think that people will buy anything, as long as it has their name on it.
Eep. I ordered my first-ever doll from them a few weeks ago and now I'm completely paranoid he will arrive with cracks in him or spider-webbing in the reisin. I'll be sure to give him a thorough check-out from head to toe as soon as I get him. Thanks for the heads up about potential issues. Edit: Hmmm....I went to their site and just noticed they changed the assembly time from 30-45 days to 35-45 days for the model I ordered. Somehow, that does not sound promising.
I'm really sorry in hearing your story...and I feel like i was dodging a bullet , I was in between among a Rosenlied doll and Lut's Litchi, it is such a pain to hear a story like that reminding the fact you know these dolls costs a lot of money! please be careful next time, check immediately the package!!
I just ordered a KDF from Luts and seeing ur situation just made me nervous. I had heard that there are some problems with Luts dolls before but overall, it seems that their reputation is good. I guess the lesson to be learnt here is carefully check ur doll when receive it. And if the resin breaks sometimes later, it is really hard to get the company held responsible
I feel I should state this about luts, I have held quite a few delfs and done work on a sdf body, the resin is very different in what I held. but sdf body was in no way delicate... infact... I was charged with demuscling one and the resin was so hard I had to use two dremel bits on it! (that torso could be used as a deadly weapon) The other sdfs I have seen/held in the last year or so all were pretty firm gents as well.
If that big crack wasn't there when you first took her out to look her over then Luts have every right to make you pay for the replacement. Unfortunately though I'm sure that they would love to be able to trust thier customers companies cannot wait for that long for customers to notice damage because then anybody could break or damage thier doll and they can't afford to give parts away for free because someody has been careless but then how do you decide who can be trusted and who can't?
Rumour? Not hardly, and Aeryn, you know better as you heard about this the other month. Scientific experimentation done in an actual lab by an actual scientist not connected with dolls, on spare CP hands found fillers fillers everywhere. Pretty freaking grotesque. Experiment was done in Florida. The person who commissioned the experiment is a DOA member; I'll talk to them and see if they want to give more detailed results. And no, it wasn't me. I don't buy CP. Ever.
I'd be curious to know how this scientist carried out this test, because I have a hard time trying to figure out how one can separate "filler" particles from resin to in a condition good enough to identify them as such. I'd like to see some concrete and believable scientific data, along with the laboratory procedure, before I can believe such an accusation. (An explanation on the difference and possible ways to identify filler in resin from a chemical engineer/other qualified person will do. In my limited knowledge as of now, it's hard to believe.) Regarding buying from Luts; I do believe this problem only applied to CP dolls sold by Luts - so Minifees and Delfs, which, as Luts clarified, are sculpted and cast by Cerberus Project - not Luts. So if you bought any of the Luts-made dolls (CDF, HDF, KDF, SDF, SSDF, etc.,), I think your quality (for now) is guaranteed. And Luts does mention that they need to be notified within 7 business days of any problems, and checking your doll upon arrival (if possible) is a smart thing to do anyways. I also don't believe there have been any significant issues with CP dolls as of late, but I'm not entirely sure...
I have to second the awesome that are the 'specifically made/created by LUTS' dolls. The resin is one of the densest resin I've handled. Those dolls are really solid. The colours seems to have far less variation in their tones, are even, surfaces are smooth,, and don't scuff easily. Very durable resin. In truth, it feels even ebtter than even most of the old batches of CP resin--which are already better than the recent batches of resin.
I'm rather curious about this scientific experiment as well. Was only CP resin tested, or was anything from other companies tested too? You can say they have "fillers fillers everywhere," but you don't say anything about if any or all other companies use fillers. It's very fascinating, though.
I'll believe it when I see undeniable proof, but I doubt you can come up with the goods. Sounds just a little bit overdramatic to me.
Now I'll take this back if you can quote a source that proves that this is true, but I find it very hard to believe and can't figure out why for the life of me you would pass on such information as if it were fact. If an experiment like that was commissioned it would most likely be very expensive, and if the results proved such a rumor then I think it would be widely known by now. I can't see anyone paying for a costly experiment out of their own pocket and then sitting on something like that. It wouldn't make any sort of sense. At all. Ever.
Fillers is a subjective word, they may have found suspention fluids and such, because to get a lighter warmer resin it would need to be a less dense material that pure undiluted resin. Resin can come in many forms, from dolls to amber, true resin is tree sap. so it is possible they might find this "filler" which is not at all a detriment but may be used to help bond the chemicals. *source wikipedia. Honestly... I find the idea of sawdust to be unlikely.. because sawdust would leave more than the occational visible fleck. i'm not talking one or two.. but rather multitudes.
Until you are able to provide actual proof of these results, I think it is highly irresponsible to speak of these like facts as well as expect everyone else to believe everything they hear over the internet. It would be even better if you could also provide the actual name of the fillers, the method of extraction for testing, the procedures and the name of this lab where the testing was done. This 'you should believe it because you heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend' doesn't sound like a great way to differentiate fact from rumour.
Yeah, I'd want to know what experiments were done and what "fillers" they found -- what even counts as a filler in resin? I'm extremely dubious, as someone who works in researchy stuff, of any claims that mention "studies" they don't actually cite. It's all very well and good to say "There was a study! In a lab! By a scientist!" but that doesn't mean anything unless you can actually show us the goods. It's actually pretty nasty to go saying things about CP dolls being full of filler when you're not prepared to offer some proof, IMO. You're potentially starting a nasty rumor without offering any basis for it besides your word.
