Lorti: Thanks so much! I used to have a pretty bown wig on her...then when I got this dress (over two years ago) I put this wig on just for fun (it was such a match)...and haven't used anything else yet.

does anyone have a doll in the real skin white? i'm trying to decide which i want the normal or the white, i like the picture but i don't want the white to be super white and pasty looking. how white is it.

 

tachiik: it's not that white, it's more a cream color, like a very pale human.

 

Does anyone have a comparison pic? I'm curious now...

Only white Delf I have is a Beauty Green...

 

The Delfs are not available in Real Skin White, it's a skin tone for LUTS' original creations. Delfs are outsourced from Cerberus Project, so they come in a different white skin. I suspect Real Skin White is probably a brighter white than the CP color.

I was wondering, does anyone have rings on their Resinoids's fingers? I'd like to put nice rings on Ryuichi's fingers, since his canon version wears them, and I'd LOVE to see pics of fingers with rings on them as well as where you got the rings from!

Yes, actually. Orangebabydolly is where I got some, got another from someone on DOA, but I forget who. Most don't, as the rings are extremely tiny, and easily lost. And even if they are sterling silver, they tarnish super quick and leave marks on the resin, which has to be cleaned.

 

I keep meaning to put on the rings I've bought them (all from orangebabydoll, either first- or second-hand, no pun intended), and probably will get around to it -- except on the oldest CP bodies I have, since they seem to have the most fragile hands. All my broken pinky fingers or thumbs have been from the first version El hands from more than 2-3 years ago.

 

Weird, the only one who's hand who has broken was Niko...he might be as old as my oldest, who'll be 5 soon...but the rest haven't had broken fingers.

 

No broken Delf fingers over here, thankfully...

I have rings on quite a few of my crew. Most of them came from ODB, but there are also a few around that I've made for one doll or another using sterling wire.

 

I just use jump rings in whatever color/thickness I'm looking for. They're cheap and available everywhere.

Someone mentioned sterling silver -- I have that reservatoin about sterling too. I wear a lot of bracelets myself, but they go in the shower with me and stay clean somehow. I worry about sterling starting to tarnish while on a doll and needing periodic cleaning. I'm actually quite partial to those metals in sme craft stores that stay shiny silver apparently forever.

And would love to try some of that neon metal - niobium? -- saw a bunch of various-sized rings in colors in the Toho Shoji bead store in NYC last month. (Had to run out of there fast before my wallet exploded from overload--)

 

yeah, mine stays shiny, but theirs tarnishes, cause they're not moving, cleaning, etc.

 

I'm saving up to buy a girl ANI~ (she'll be my first bjd!) but my freinds keep telling me it like a 2 month wait!
why does it take so long? though i'm sure she'll be worth the wait! XD

 

She's a cutie! The wait is because the doll is a pre-order - it has to be made. The company doesn't keep them in stock but takes orders until they have a batch. The waiting time varies, depending on how close they are to closing a batch. and on other things like weather conditions.

Mixing a batch of resin is a tricky business. The resin is a toxic liquid, and extremely sticky stuff. In order to be made into something nice, like your doll (or a fiberglass boat repair, which is where my experience came from) another substance has to be added to it so that it will harden and be dry to the touch. Too much of the hardener and the the material will be hard and dry, but brittle and crumbly. Too little and your doll will be more like the tar baby - soft and pliable, and very very sticky. To complicate matters, humid weather can keep the resin from setting up even though the mixture is right. In order to get the resin to set, too much hardener would have to be added, and the result would be a brittle batch of resin and a lot of broken dolls. The companies understandably prefer to wait until conditions improve, so a period of rainy weather can set back production.

A few of my dolls have silver jewellery and I've never had a problem with tarnishing rubbing off on to the doll. When I see it's tarnished I just take it off and rub it with a tissue and it's clean again. No need to clean the doll as well.

 

True that...

I've never had sterling jewelry stain any of my dolls (Most of my crew have at least one silver piece... either rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings or some combination-), but you do have to polish pretty regularly to keep most of them bright. There are coated, "tarnish free" sterling chains, charms and findings available, and that also helps some.

Orca Keep him in the glass! They look amazing without the photoshopping! I find acrylics are cool until you get glass eyes and realize how much more depth they have.

I've never had any jewelry stain my dolls, and most of them are wearing metal findings you'd think would after a while. I don't think it's something to really fret over.

Ryuichi wears silver earrings, and I clean them every now and with nail polish remover, being super careful to NOT touch his his faceup! Since I only have to clean them around once every six months, I don't mind it.

Does anyone have pics of their Resinoids wearing rings? I know we're only allowed one pic per post, but I'd still like to see some. Right now, he's wearing a ring of some kind of cheap metal that I was given. Since he has jointed hands, I don't worry too much about broken fingers.

Not a great picture, but I can do a Miyu too -- acquired this head with a very pale faceup awhile ago and found it matches perfectly on a Soom girl body w/Delf hands (the body was de-chested by the previous owner, but she'll just be a very flat-fronted girl):

I just got my hands on an 05 Breakaway Vamp head yesterday and I was kinda surprised to see that it looked bigger than my Yder head. After staring at them for a very long time, I came to the conclusion that his features were bigger than my Yder, but his face is only very slightly wider. The combination of the slightly wider face and slightly bigger features made him look like a big head. :\

Which kinda sucks, because I'm not used to the way his head looks on the Delf body, even though I've been wanting a Breakaway since 2006. :\

*sighs*

He's really beautiful, though.



I wonder what other bodies he can go on, preferably with a shoulder-width wider than 13cm...

 

Oh, he's gorgeous! I love those eyes! Is he a type two head? Try a Fairyland feeple body. I've got my Moon on a feeple body and I love it! A lot more mature looking than a Delf body, and poses better, too (he can stand up on his own and not fall over!). But he's tall, 70cm.

But check out those abs!

 

Mmm, nice. I like Feeple bodies. I just wish they were a little shorter than 70cm, haha~ T_T I'll probably keep it in mind, since it'll be awhile before my finances recover again. @_@

His eyes came with him, so, unfortunately, I can't tell you where they come from. ^_^;;; They're made of glass, and seem to be 20mm eyes, because they fill the eyewell quite completely. O_O

Hmm... I've never really thought of the old Breakaway heads as being oversized for Type 1 bodies. Granted, I'm used to looking at them on those bods, but they don't seem any more out of proportion than the other, older Delf heads. (They're smaller than Shiwoos, older Els and Chiwoos, for instance-)

Anyway... as an example, this is Ptolemaeus, my BW Vampire Breakaway. He's on a 2005 Type 1 body.



That said, I don't think I'd try putting one on a re-strung Type 3 body (Or even a Type 2, for that matter-). That probably WOULD look a little bit bobble-head.

 

I have a some old-old El heads and an old Yder too (with that very first style pale faceup), and the Yder is notceably smaller than the original El head, and somewhat smaller (especially with the petite features) to later heads. Bought an older Breakaway head this last year and it really was the same size as the old El heads, a T1 Shiwoo head, and a T2 Nanuri06 that lives here. He's happily ensconsed on a T2 body at the moment (neck mechanism removed and restrung). Doesn't look out of proportion at all compared to the other heads. The Yder head, though, needs a more slender body. I think you just get used to the larger heads being "in proportion".

..which I will be most probably selling soon . I love him, but he is very neglected and from the year I didn't do nothing with him. No pics, now sewing for him...so I guess its time to let him go and concentrate on others.

Anyway I have a question about it too...when I bought him, he costs 550$ (he will turn 3 yrs in Sept, I am the first owner). Now new one from luts costs 448$, what would you list him for? He would come with soom eyes and his leeke wig and few blouses and sneakers ( wig, blouses and sneakers would be free gifts). His faceup is in very good condition, his body is clean ( I removed the blushing and tatoos, only some blushing left in his...erm butt lol), it was restringed with new string arround year ago, he ofcourse changed his color a bit, but very nicely. He don't have any damages.

 

Since we're going for wide varieties of Miyu and Moon....Although these two are only partially in final form. Her metallic pink eyes have GOT to go. They catch stray highlights like Satellite dishes! And him, with all his yellow coloring, needs eyes that are low-pigmented-looking, but not quite as cataract/muddy-looking as these. Plus I'm debating redoing his beard and eyebrows. The eyebrow angle is too *soft* for his character, and the beard -- it's HARD doing something in pale yellows that doesn't look more like chin drool! (Still toying with the idea of sticking on some thinned-out fur-fibers too.)

 

Facial hair on dolls is just tough to get right... It's like the dolly-faceup challenge course. o_0

Since we're spamming Miyu pictures, here's one of Chidori (my Type 1).
She's not usually dressed like one of granny's china dolls (Her database picture is more typical-) , but it's been awhile since I posted anything from this set.



One of these days I'll get around to taking a decent picture of Kareyeru (my Type 2) for comparison, but so far it hasn't happened. Girl's been here for almost two years now and has never had a post-faceup picture taken. XP

 

Brightfires>> The Breakaway head does look pretty proportional on the Type 1 bod. I had mine briefly on a Type 3, since it's the only Delf body I've got at the moment, so I guess that's why he looked kinda bobbly. @_@

hobbywhelmed>> Most of my other dolls have relatively smaller heads, so I'm more used to that look. I ended up selling a Chiwoo head because of that. ^_^;;;;
