Luts Delf Discussion

Sep 26, 2009

    1. I was shocked to find that there really isn't a general discussion thread for Delfs! My first SD, a Luts Delf Yder, arrived after a completely unexpected short wait recently. As I'm new to the SD world of BJD's, I'm up to chat about them!

Please feel free to use this thread to post about anything relating to Luts Delfs (60 cm).

    2. I was also surprised at not being able to find a general discussion for Delfs!

I got my Delf Miyu almost a month ago. I was a very short wait for me as well (shipped out a week after my order was made). I should be getting a face-up soon and am waiting for eyelashes and wigs from LeekeWorld.

    3. I'm surprised at how little discussion, if at all, there is about the Delfs--especially considering their popularity. Congrats on your Miyu! Luts seems to be very good about their service and wait times. I love Leekeworld wigs, but I learned recently that the photos don't often match up with the reality. I ordered the Cody wig for my boy in caramel, and it looks nothing like the photo. It definitely doesn't suit him, so I'm going to sell/trade it as soon as I can :sweat

    4. Oooh discussion thread about my favourite dolls! Why hasn't there been one before? Oh well. This one shall be super spiffeh.
Has an El on the way... :B My baybeeee! Poor Teal will be glumphed so hard he won't know what hit him. Also ordered a wig and lurvely blue eyesies. Will be doing faceup myself >gulp<
Congrats everyone on your Yders and Miyu! And aren't delfs (delves) awesome?

    5. I have a Yder and Shiwoo, both were shipped really fast :3 I plan to have a Chiwoo and a Moon later on. Probably a Soo dark human too.

    6. I have a Type 1 Yder sleeping head with its eyes modded open on a Type 3 boy body. The head was bought second-hand and the body was from a split, so I've never, ever dealt with Luts directly. I like their older delf sculpts, but everything after Yder has been pretty 'meh' to me. Except maybe Miyu. But I like much smaller eyes than that. :\

And I'm not at all fond of the way they string their dolls with such tight elastic, as if they're trying to save on the cost of the elastic. :\ On the other hand, it does make posing easier, but I'd rather have the choice of tightening the elastic myself. Don't know if they're still doing it, though, but my boy is still as tight as a bowstring after about two years...

    7. I got my Miyu about two months ago. Super fast delivery, and that was with faceup! I'd bought clothes from them before but that was the first time I'd ordered a full doll from them and I was very impressed. The faceup was the best I've ever seen from a factory. I also have a Dark Elf Soo got from ebay, and I've just got a Yder head from the MP. I'll definitely buy from them again - I even got a free blank head with my Miyu.:)

    8. I have two Delf Lishes's NS and TS. I love that they have a discussion thread. They were the first dolls I ever loved. :)

    9. I'm shocked to see no Heel Feet on the Luts store... Most of their shoes need heel feet to be able to wear them yes? :\ So how am I supposed to buy some cute heels for my incoming girl if I can't buy her some heel feet?

    10. I don't think the dolls need heel feet to wear luts heels.

    11. I don't have any dolls yet :"( But I'm saving for an El!! I'm so determined to get him, I've been hoarding my money like crazy! XD I love the sculpts the CP Luts have... they're so awesome!

    12. Well, I thought all heel shoes required heel feet? Has Luts ever made heel feet parts?

    13. I feel the same. Very few of the newer sculpts interest me at all. One of my friends got her Blanchett, finally, today, and she's really the only Luts that's not a Delf that I like. (Though, I'm dying for a Zuzu Delf Wolfy!)

The same friend who got her Blanchett today has an El head on a B&G body. It's amazing how much larger his head is compared to Yder's. But he's a handsome devil!

      ---
I believe the same friend I keep mentioning has heeled feet for her Blanchett, so I think they exist, but they're not offering them now? I could be mistaken--I seem to remember seeing them as an option on the site in the parts section. But you don't necessarily need heeled feet to wear high-heeled shoes.

    14. So some heeled shoes are okay with non-heel feet?

    15. For Delfs, I don't think they need heeled feet. My boy tends to go en pointe the moment I pick him up, so I think it'll be ok. For girls too, I mean.

    16. Hey there. Another fan of the older Delf sculpts here. Even the "classic" heads changed size over time. We did a comparative study of El heads a year or so ago, and the original El heads were almost a centimeter bigger around than the later heads, and a bit more "squirrel-cheeked". Yder always was smaller compared to El, but I've no doubt the earliest Yder ones were bigger too!

    17. The necks got smaller from Type1 to Type 2 (I think), so the heads got correspondingly smaller?

    18. Nope. The necks are the same size. You can put a very early boy head on a later boy body (as long as it's a Type 1 [s-hook connection], or you remove the type 2 connector. ). I've put one of the very earliest heads on a restrung type 3 body and it fit fine.

There's actualy a bit of variation in body heights and shoulder widths with the earliest male bodies. Occasionally you'll come across one that's up to 2cm taller. I found two, but one was longer in the thighs than later bodies, and the other was a longer torso. So I don't know if it was something being tried, or some variation in the casting process. I do know if you heft an early male body and a newer body, you'll feel the difference in weight immediately. The newer bodies are lighter (and they have slightly less rounded tooshes than the earlier bodies).

The girls' necks were thinner in the beginning, but when they brought out the type 2 neck mechanisms, they flared the girl necks out at the top. So now, the girl necks are still thinner but flare out so you can fit either gender head on, and they only needed to come out with a single size type 2 neck mechanism.

    19. Ah, finally, a Delf discussion. And I see people I know from the LUTS waiting room!
I'm still waiting on my El... I don't know if anyone has ever had it happen to them, but another user here on DOA and I had our orders mixed up. x_X My El went to her, and her Hodoo to me. So now, we've shipped them back to LUTS, and they will send the packages out again, hopefully soon! I can't tell you what a nightmare that day was for me! Eeeek.

    20. I have a type 1 head on a (restrung) type 3 body. If I shake him his head shakes. The neckhole is obviously too big for the neck... but of course, this might be a design feature of type 1 dolls too. I'll get a pic in a bit to show you.

    21. I, too, prefer the original CP Delf sculpts. I have a WS Dreaming Lishe (my original BJD crush), a Nanuri '06 boy, and a Juri '05.

Regarding the high-heel feet, check out this thread:
High Heel Feet for Delf Girls?

    22. I tell ya what, though. The one-touch system is sooo nice, especially if you've never had anything like it before. I don't freak out about taking off Cadence's head like I do for my smaller two.

That's really interesting how even the same sculpts have changed over time!

    23. The only thing I don't like about the one-touch system on the 60cm size is when it's time to tighten their strings a bit. Getting at the knot in the chest is a pain, and I hate doing a complete disassembly of feet and legs and torso just to tighten up things. If only it was easier to slip the cord off the metal loop (which is almost closed) underneath the mechanism and just lift the upper torso.

Hey, I have a Cadence too! Mine's a MNF tan El.

    24. I dunno, the one thing that occasionally gets me about the one-touch neckpiece is that...Katen's likes to work itself loose. I'll put his head on and think it's nice and tight and then I'll be going about changing his clothes and putting his wig back on and lo and behold, his head is no longer on him. It is in my hand. :doh Weirdly enough though Lian's doesn't do that at ALL.

Count me on the 'I like me some older Delfs' train. I've got one of the older Yders and while his head is smaller than my Shiwoozle's, it's still bigger than Lu-wen's. Lian is a PINHEAD, man! I heart him, but he's still a pinhead. XD

    25. I've got a neckpiece or two that do that. It's annoying! (Not quite as annoying as a magnet-head little hand that pops off if you try to position it at the wrong angle, and/or on the road--) I've heard some people say they wedge extra eye putty into the head around the lever to keep it in place.

Yup, have no idea what they intended with the smaller heads. Maybe people were mentioning heads more realistically proportioned to a body, but they overshot - LuWen was small but some delf event heads after him were even smaller.

    26. This may seem an odd question, but, do you think a delf boy could wear heeled shoes? As in, those cute heeled sandals I see at the luts store. At least one or two are long enough lengthwise...

    27. I've seen delf boys in heels. Sure have!

The thing with flat feet in a heel is that you have to stabilize the foot a bit. If the shoe has some room around the toes, try a little tissue wad or bit of fiberfill for the very flat front portion of the shoe, and to give the angled toes something secure to "nest into". A high heel shoe that's got ample room might look a bit large, but it's better than trying to *bend* a flat foot now at a 45-degree angle into the flat front tip of the shoe.

The big thing with trying to get flat-feet to free-stand in heels is the ankles. Make sure the ankles are sueded (glue or pliver) so the calves aren't likely to start shifting on the ankle balls. With the lessened amount of contact with the ground, any slipping is going to topple the doll much faster, since the heels on the shoes will topple first, being SO narrow in their centers of gravity.

High-heeled boots you can lace up tightly, but again, either pad something around the ankles if there's any wobble room. I've even heard of using long narrow stiffeners on either side of the leg, from low calf down, bottom resting on the inside of the boot.

Now, if it's wonky knees, that's another thing. but once sueded, CP knees tend to be good.

    28. Ahh, that sounds doable, actually. Hm... I shall look into it. ^_^

    29. Yay, Cadence love! It's a great name :)

My Cadence is a bit tightly strung, but I've never touched the strings on dolls so opening him (and my other pair) up to deal with the strings is not something I'm concerned with. The knob (?) on him is pretty tight, so I haven't noticed an issue with it coming loose at all. Nothing in his head is going anywhere, particularly since the extensions on the back of the eyes make it difficult to turn it anyway.

(And yay, I'm glad more folks are joining the discussion!)

    30. Yay! A Delf Discussion thread. ^ ^ My Delf Moon is my first doll, and although I don't have other companies to compare the neck piece system to, I really do hate how tight my boy's touch-system is. I feel as if I'm going to break it in two, but it ends up doing a 180 degree in like a millisecond. Urg!

    31. Yeah, the type2's usually are tight. I find the head works much better if when you're glue-sueding you also drizzle/shmoosh a bit of the glue around the edges and top of the neck. Even type2's need traction!

The inside lever - oh yeah, some of them need extra reinforcement to stay in place.

And the head caps with that prong in the back -- why do they send out some dolls with headcaps that are loose or have gaps at the seam?

Oops, sorry, this turned into a mini-vent!

    32. Maybe you should restring him to be looser? It does help protect the joints, and especially the neck.

    33. The type2's I have (more than one) aren't tight enough to cause pressure cracks (you need Unidoll stringing for that...), and you need tightness to keep the hip area stable (I've found if you can pull the thigh far enough away from the hip joint to see white cord, that's too loose.) It's just the T2 neck mechanism tends to slip sharply on the neck sometimes. It's annoying when you're getting ready to take a photo and the head changes position -- but wonderful for scaring nondoll people, of course -

Well, to get back on track -- people who have older BW delfs -- how many have ones that turned yellowish/cream and how many have the "BG" - beauty green ones? I have two older minifees that are shades of green. Actually had had a third one, but sold him to someone in Florida. A year and a half later, she was cutting down her collection and asked if I wanted to buy him back. I did, but after a good cleaning up, he wasn't green, but a lovely yellowish color now! I have no idea what did that, but when he first went south, he was green enough to look decidedly green even in pix (so many green-white dolls, from several companies, photograph pure white).

    34. My WS Lishe is circa 2005, and she can look greenish in some light, but never in photos.

    35. I have a little question - does Delf NS resin yellow very significantly? I mean, well, more recently. ^^

    36. My Yder has the type-3 body, so I'm not sure if that makes much of a difference. With individually hand-made dolls, though, I'm sure there are some variances between stringing. My two Dollzone MSD's are like that. My boy has the older body and poses like a champ, but my girl with the newer body fights me. I can tell she's strung looser.

As for newer bodies yellowing, it may be a bit early to tell :sweat I've read of Luts up to three years old only slightly yellowing if properly cared for.

    37. I own a Type 1 Delf EL that I got from the marketplace and love this guy to pieces, I have restrung him to a CP tightness with kicky legs and all, but that is how I love my Delfs to be. He will eventually get looser, but for now he is well strung.

    38. Orca - Thank you for starting this thread. I too was wondering why there wasn't any threads for discussing our lovely Delfs.

I have to admit that I also love the older sculpts. :D

I bought my first Delf, a NS El head, from the marketplace. He was modded by his previous owner, so he doesn't have the long El nose but a nice (and quite feminine) short nose with very full lips. I have him on an old Souldoll boy body and the colour match is wonderful. We had some difficulties when trying to attach the head, so now he has two donuts (one inside the head and one between the head and neck) and it works fine. I still want to buy him a type 1 body though, preferably second hand, since Pyrope is slightly yellowed (very nice colour though).

I bought my second Delf, a NS Breakaway 08, also from the marketplace. He's got the type 3 body, I believe and compared to a friend's Delf on type 1 body... Lysimakhos is shorter.

My newest Delf is a NS El Elf 06 which I bought from a friend of mine. He's absolutely gorgeous, but poor Juniper is still a floating head and needs a body.

    39. hobbywhelmed, I wonder why I haven't tried hot gluing the bottom of the touch system on the neck piece. ooo..

I remember the whole kicking leg thing. I kind of miss that in my boy. well, sort of. I think all Luts dolls are TIGHTLY strung when they come to you, but for me, being a beginner in all thought that was just how he was. Now my Delf Moon poses perfectly. He had gotten loose a while ago, but it wasn't hard to tighten the string and all. Does anyone know of a faster way how you could try to tighten their strings, rather than taking them all apart?

I find that the difference in height for the Delf Boy bodies are kind of like an advantage. I have several characters in mind that are a tiny bit taller than one another, in my mind. So since my doll is a shortie, I might put him on a type 3 body...just for the sake of being shorter than the others.

Yes, I am still wanting my own Breakaway. You know I kind of wonder why the newer sculpts are not as appealing as the older sculpts. *sigh* I love CP to death though.

    40. I was saying that I thought type 3 bodies have smaller necks because of this:

That's a type 1 head, and that's a type 3 (Lu Wen) body. The neckhole is obviously too big for the neck, which led me to conclude maybe the type 1 body had a bigger neck. Or do all CP dolls look like this?

    41. Yes. CP has never made high-heeled feet for their dolls, but they can still wear heeled shoes. Gaia (my Elf Lishe) and Amber (a very dandy-ish Moon) are rarely in anything else and I've never had trouble standing or posing them. Gaia in particular balances pretty well in heels.

RE: the necks on Type 3 bodies... They are a bit smaller, I think. The Type 3s tend to be smaller all around than the Type 2s, which were on-average a little smaller themselves than the old Type 1s.

    42. Oh, hey, a Delf thread! I only have two heads at the moment, but hope to get them on Delf bodies eventually - or at least one of them. Right now they're sharing an Fdoll body. My Yder head is secondhand but newer and is a beautiful white; my El is at least third hand and is yellowed, greenish in some lights. I kind of like the greenish, though, for some reason! They both work well enough on the Fdoll body somehow, though neither is a perfect match.

    43. I too am glad to find this thread. I have my very first SD he is a SS El, norm skin, modified by previous owner but he is still just the head. I have not started to look for a body but will be lurking on this thread to get some suggestions.

    44. I'm glad there is finally a Delf thread, I can't believe somebody didn't start one sooner! Right now I have 3 Soonys and 2 Soo Dark Humans, all normal skin, but all but one has a custom faceup by Luts. I love my Delfs ^-^

    45. None of my girls have heel feet, but I have probably 8-10 pairs of heels (made for Senior Delf Girls, among others), and they fit just fine! So go ahead and buy your girls some heels, they don't necessarily have to have the heel feet :D

    46. What's the difference between the bodies, in terms of posing and...easy-to-work-with-ness? Which one would you recomend?

Because I am totally planing to get a Yder someday.:D

And is it white skin that turns green, or does something else make that happen?

    47. So you mean, even Senior Delf shoes fit Delfs? 0.0;

    48. I believe it is only tanned bodies that turn green... white skin I'm sure could easily turn yellow if not properly cared for. And as for posing I don't know. I'm getting my first BJD soon. :]

    49. They sure do! I fell in love with a few pairs, so I gave it a shot, and they were fine. Now I mostly buy Senior Delf shoes for my Delfs, because I think they make very sexy and feminine shoes for the Senior Delf girls, which is what I always wanted. Two of my girls are wearing Senior Delf shoes right now ^-^

    50. I was told they wouldn't fit Delfs. :D How well would you say they fit them? And have you tried any shoes made for SD but not from Luts for your Delfs?

    51. Soonys are wonderful. :D
I love my Soony, even though she is my only big doll. :aheartbea

    52. Hmm, who told you that? I'd say they fit just fine. If they are open toed with high heels, then you can see that their toes don't quite reach the end of the shoe because their feet aren't arched. But for closed toe shoes you can't tell at all! So I have no complaints with the fit. Even on the open toe shoes it's not a big deal.

I have a pair of shoes from Dollheart, they are pink and have really high cork heels and a platform in front, they fit well. Oh, and I just bought some thigh high high heeled boots from Ebay (can't remember which company makes them), they fit really well too. I also have a pair of sneakers from Dollmore, they were actually made for SD size girls, and they fit just fine ^-^ But most of my shoes are from Luts, because I like theirs the best :D

Graelin, Soony is, and always has been, my favorite doll. She's just gorgeous in everything! :aheartbea I'd love to see a pic of your Soony sometime ^-^

    53. So you would say it's fine to buy shoes from other companies too so long as they say the shoes are SD sized?

    54. In general, yeah, it should be ok. I've heard that some company's shoes are a bit wider than the Delf feet, but they basically fit ok.

    55. There were batches of the white skin that turned green, but I think the problem has been solved now. It's not like lime green, or pea green like some unstable tans have turned, but a slight yellowish green cast.

I can't speak about Delfs specifically, but NONE of my dolls wear shoes from their actual company, so it's probably worth a try!

    56. Actually my Delf only wears his Senior Delf sized shoe. His feet doesn't go all the way to the end of the shoe, but they do fit fairly good. I actually prefer the Senior Delf shoes because the there aren't alot of Delf shoes.

Now that they made the Junior Delf, has anyone tried Junior Delf shoes on their Delf boys? They should be the same size right. I'll have to check.

    57. There actually was a period of about 6 months around 2-3 years ago where the WS resin had a green undertone to it. I have seen dolls that have quite literally aged to a mint green colour, but others that are yellow with just a slight green undertone. But you're right, they don't have that problem now I've found.

    58. As was already mentioned, the whole 'beauty green' thingerwhatsit was a specific batch of WS and to my knowledge it hasn't been an issue in a while, so don't sweat that one if you're buying new. As to the other question...

I LOOOOOOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the type 3 body for poseability. My Lu-wen stands like a damn rock and I adore the double-jointed arms and legs; he moves so beautifully naturally. Eventually I plan on swapping out my Shiwoo's type 2 for another type 3. Purr. That said, I have a Yder and he's a hybrid because I personally like the aesthetics of a slightly slimmer body with that head. YMMV.

It's fine, but I personally like to go by actual foot measurements rather than 'SD-size'. Delf boys have TEENY FEETS. Two of my boys wear SD girl shoes because they fit really really nicely; some of the shoes I've gotten that were labeled for SD boy were HUGE. (Sometimes I think Delf boys were specifically designed to crossdress. o___O)

    59. As I mentioned, I was very shocked there wasn't a discussion already just for Delfs :) Had to create one, as there was no way I couldn't not talk about my new Yder.

I love Soony's! She may be my next actual doll purchase in the future. I'd like to see more owner photos.

Cadence's type-3 body stands really nicely, but it does tend to get fickle when posing him certain ways. I've noticed, too, that his arms (particularly when clothed) don't like to pose when bent upward, so I'm not sure what exactly that is when the rest of his body cooperates fine.
