Show off your lucky and unlucky photos-- The ones you never thought would turn out but did, or the ones that are all blurry because you had to leap to catch the doll in the middle of it, or because your camera decided to focus on the leaf 30 feet away, or because your cat decides to photo-bomb....!
Here's my 'oops, camera focused on flower in foreground' one - that actually turned out very nice (totally had nothing to do w/planning): Renee in the garden (12) by Cheri Teleri, on Flickr
My cat isn't very photogenic and he never looks into the camera, but I somehow managed to get both my doll and my cat to look into the camera at the same time and it wasn't even blurry! That luck! Samy & Maria by Ɗıɑƨƥɾɵ, on Flickr
I LOVE all these photos! They really make me smile (luckily--no horrible unlucky accidents so far!) I have lots of out of focus photos (TOO many), but nothing really great (not even a leaf in focus!). So maybe a cat photo will do. Soba, the cat, is looking interested in the wig, but fortunately he's picky about his toys... and was just sniffing!
This is the photo I was taking of my first doll riiiiiiight before she toppled over and ruined her default face-up, as I mentioned in the other celebration thread. I can still see myself reaching out to catch her and hearing my DSLR "clunk" against her nose. But hey, at least I was able to get in one decent shot. LOL!
Lakin is my lucky boy when it comes to...well...everything. In character, he's pretty much completely unlucky, then lucky at the last minute, but in doll form, he's all luck. When I was creating his character, I didn't even choose a sculpt, I just said "whatever falls into my hands next is Lakin." I ended up getting him for my sister, who got him in a trade, and he already had this amazing faceup by Buff. I usually paint my own dolls, but I loved it so much, I kept it. Lakin was meant o be a background character who quickly became one of my favorites. He's also ridiculously photogenic, even though photography is by far not my strong point. This has always been one of my favorite photos of him, and it was taken on an iPhone 5. It's better than many of the photos I set up and shoot with an expensive camera. Lakin always tends to just fall in place for pix!
Lacey toppled over when I was trying to take photos...but I caught her! So I'm not sure if this is lucky or unlucky. BoxOpening15 by kiyoshisenshi, on Flickr
OMG! You even can see your hand in there! That is so perfect! Nice motion-blur. ---Great that you caught her! Definitely Unlucky and Lucky!
Haha, thanks! The best thing is, I had no idea I had taken that photo until I went back later and reviewed my pictures for editing. I laughed so hard when I saw it! So I guess that's a little lucky something too.
@Diaspro your cat omg. He's fabulous. Can I do two? I wanna post two for similar reasons aka dolls who just don't want to stand Alex generally stands like a rock anywhere I plant him, but the other two can't stand for s**t, so they had stands. Which did a whole lotta no good as all three of them kept falling stand or no stand. Possibly because we were on an uneven hill. And the wind omg. So as bad as it is, I consider it lucky since I did manage to get it at all. And it was sort of how I wanted it to be. Then there is this one Which is another terrible photo, but only taken since I wanted to see their heights together. What was lucky about it was what happened when I was done. I pulled Joker out of the line-up without realizing Harley was leaning on him. She toppled over and took Ivy and Two-Face with her. All three of them hit Batman, and stopped. He held them all up, standing on his own, without even leaning on anything (I swear he's not against the wall). No one can tell me Iple didn't improve their EIDs....my old one couldn't stand on his own at all, let alone holding three other dolls up. So that was lucky since I didn't have any damage done to my doll dominos.
I don't think there are any hard rules (beyond the usual forum rules) in Just For Fun games, so feel free to post more than one photo! Doll-dominoes is always a big risk in group shots! Very lucky Batman was there!
@Diaspro I love your photo! Your cat is so great. @VampireAngel13 Go Batman! Group shots are the devil. Sometimes the weather wrecks your photos. The wigs below are both stiff and inflexible, so the wind was really bad to start tipping the girl over and mess up their hair like that! Not to mention her dress kept blowing up around her hips. This whole shoot was a huge bother, plus it was 110 degrees F and the humidity was brutal, so every second spent outside was just torture.
When photographing dolls, it's always a good idea to make sure you can see everyone's faces. Maddy ended up behind the Doctor here... ADAD A Talent by Beth Simmons, on Flickr Between the extreme low light and me not having a tripod, this one should not have worked. ADAD Low Light by Beth Simmons, on Flickr Perfect timing - I just wanted my degu Zaphod to be visible in this photo. i didn't think he'd politely introduce himself to Fawn, Fawn meets Zaphod by Beth Simmons, on Flickr
Wow there are some really cool shots and great "oops" moments in this thread! Really enjoying it! Hope more people share their best and worst and keep it going!
Lol for real. He was my hero *ducks tomatoes* Omg your photo is real life XD That's exactly what happens in every photo with hair.
Unlucky for me was when I found that the little glass vial had broken in the package, but even unluckier for the kitties! Contagious by Nadine, on Flickr
As terrible as this photo is, I called it a Christmas miracle: You see, despite having hot-glue in all her joints, my Elfdoll Lydia was known for refusing to balance, and falling for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I don't know why, because she was quite stiff in general. So to actually get a photo of her freestanding at all, much less while holding something in her hands was practically unbelievable. Then there's this one: My first EID Woman, Luna, with the old-style joints, and no sueding or anything else to assist. She never even wobbled once I had her balanced, believe it or not (though I didn't have the courage to leave her there too long)!
My all time favourite shot was taken this last winter of my Angell Studio Qingyi. The wind just happened to blow out his clothing right when I took the shot: Azure by Leah, on Flickr The bad luck happened a few moments after... where he toppled over and didn't look so elegant anymore. ^^;
Thanks for sharing your "Oops" and "Awe" moments. I don't think I've ever worked my way entirely through a thread before, but I couldn't stop reading! I'll be back to see if more are added later.
Kind of a tiny but very annoying oops. Took these photos that I was pretty pleased with showcasing my new Momo bunny body. Realized later that her left eye was juuuuuust falling out of her head, creating this weird wall-eyed effect. By the time I realized it was dark out. You can't even really tell too horribly but oh my god if it doesn't bother me! Not to mention her face is pretty out of focus
I was taking some photos of my Dollits Miso, Lizzy, and the sun peeped out from behind a cloud to create this highlighting. I just love this photo.
Love all these! Here's my OH NO SHES FALLING shot from a few years ago... ACK FALLING by Skyealloway, on Flickr
My contribution is an old photo, in which the collapsing of my dolls on the floor was captured by the camera! Kylo was the first to collapse, and he dragged his mate Hux down as well XD Still consider the entire accident a rather lucky one, as the dolls' faceups weren't ruined at that time, and the photo turned out not so bad after all XD
This is one of my favorite photos of Teatime, and it's definitely both - I took about four photos before he fell in the river and scuffed his nose, and the memory card in my camera corrupted while I was trying to put the pictures from this vacation on my computer, but I managed to salvage the data and the few pics I managed to get turned out well ^^;
For the laugh Found this in my “Lord Motesto” folder from when I was doing his first photoshoot for Granado’s annual photo contest. Between two takes Motesto fell and pulled the whole background setup with him. I laughed when I realized there was a picture taken of this “frightening” moment.
