Faceups Lower Lashes?

Nov 19, 2021

    1. Something Ive had on my mind... Does anyone glue lashes on for bottom lashes? I only ever see the bottom lashes drawn, but I thought if you used shorter/more sparse lashes maybe it would look nice?

Anyone do this? Id love to see some examples if people do :?

    2. Peakswoods had a limited time faceup (I can’t remember the name of the faceup) where they had glued bottom lashes. They only offer it to this type of faceup and haven’t done it to any others. I haven’t seen other companies do this, or other faceup artists (not sure if it’s because people don’t request it or artists only offer top lashes).
Edit: I just remembered, a user here, Calfuray, has a Peakswoods Rosemii with bottom lashes. You can try searching the forum :)

    3. It's possible that the reason is because the band of the lashes is more visible on the lower lid, and not so when affixed to the upper lid. But it could also be because of the way a top and bottom lash can interact with each other on most sculpts. I'm interested to hear as well.

    4. Im wondering if invisible bands (the kind that is clear) or gluing individual lashes would be interesting to try.... :ablink:

I may just have to do this myself....:evilplot:

Oooh I see!! They actually looks pretty nice... I understand the visible band being potentially undesirable (I think its fine especially for a cergain style of face) I have have to try some things...

Here's a somewhat recent thread discussing the topic :)

From own experience I can say that the only real way you can glue bottom lashes, is by doing it hair by hair. Everything else looks extremely odd.
And doing it that way just takes forever. Unless it's needed for a special look (I did it for a Drag Queen faceup), I'd always rather go for painted lashes :sweat

Yea I think painted will the the go-to for most people, but Its interesting to thinkof other styles and techniques. Sounds prefect for a Drag Queen :XD:

    8. Such a cutie :DThe bottoms look really good for her- I think having bigger eyes like this sculpt would be easier to implement bottom lashes.

    9. Heavybomb applies lower lashes for many of their faceups if you wanted to peruse their instagram for more examples. ^^ They're done hair by hair and glued flat against the face.

    11. I suffer from shaky hands, so it's hard for me to paint thin crisp lines, without also adding a series of squiggles right along or on top of anything I already painted. It's getting worse with age (old-fart here!). I have one doll with applied lower lashes, despite him not being a drag-queen, nor identifying as one nor anything remotely close, sexually or aesthetically -- he's male, identifies as male and I want him to look as a male. He is based on an OC my bff created when we were both in high-school, and he's very much a theatrical character, and has extremely stylized lower eyelashes. Due to my shaky hands, I thought giving him applied lower lashes would benefit me in the long run, but as I modified him to have smaller and smaller eyes, it became a bit much. I tried trimming the lashes myself, but that made them a bit (a lot!) worse. The only reason I cling onto them is because they were the only lashes that I found with a transparent band, although it does create a shadow on the lid, making it look like there's a lot of eyeliner or an actual dark band/strip holding the lashes. I am tempted to apply single lashes once again, after failing the first time I ever tried, but I'm a lazy-old-bum now. I lack the motivation to redo anything, until I am ready to mod my doll once again. DX

I posted him on that other thread already mentioned.

    12. I think like any other part of a faceup, applied lower lashes can look different ways depending on how they are applied and what you want as the final look. There is not only one method to apply them, and there is not only one look they can achieve. :sweat

In general, humans have upper and lower lashes. So doll representations that are male and male presenting can also have lower lashes and it in no way negates those qualities. They are just...body hair.

      Edit:
@Enzyme I have always loved your Mano :chocoheart
      He's so glamorous.

    13. Generally I wanted to say what @Lady Ravenswood has said, but they said it so much better than I could ever have, so I will not spoil it by trying^^

Re: invisible line for lower lashes: we had such a great tutorial here in the forum, years ago, about how to use eyelashes with a visible, e.g. black line and replacing that line with a very thin translucent sewing thread or a single fibre from a doll wig while losing not a single hair - so thin it wouldn't even make a shadow. And it was much, much easier to do than it sounds now. It was genius and would work well for lower lashes if you do not want to go the laborious single-lashes-route. But I can't for the life of me find it now :doh

    14. @Mandagore
I remember that tutorial! They took a hair from a wig and applied glue on the bound end of the lashes. Then they laid the hair across the length of the lashes and let it dry. Then they cut the original binding strip off. It was very clever!

      Edit:
      Ah, I found it!

    15. Thank you! I love those lashes, wish I could find more lol

    16. I bow to your superior search skills! That's exactly what I meant. I feel inspired to try it out! Sadly no face-up weather over here :thumbup

    17. I took a picture where you can see my doll's lower lashes, and suddenly remembered this topic. So I thought I might post the picture here for anyone curious since it's a guy doll with small eyes:

    18. I've done lower lashes as well! For it to look more natural, I don't use the full band kind of lashes but instead the individual false lashes--that way you don't have to deal with bands and you dont have to trim etc :D

    19. I’ve tried glue lower eyelash for my doll before but it not works well on his face as he has very small eyes:...( the lower eyelash makes his eyes looks even smaller

    20. Wow - these are GORGEOUS!
