Love at first sight?

Jun 13, 2014

    1. Ringdoll Frankenstein was the first one I fell head over heels for. Unfortunately, he was discontinued several years before I knew about BJDs. Since then, I tend to be looking for a doll for character and just ah ha! when I find the right one. However, recently, I have fallen very in love with Miracle Doll Lestat :D

    2. For me, it was Switch Gyoha. Prior to seeing him, I didn't have much interest in Switch sculpts. However, as soon as I came across him on the marketplace, I fell in love with him and knew I had to get him:love

    3. This happened to me with DC Hubery.
I remember I saw him first time on Flickr and stuck with idea to have home like immediately. That was hard to get him, because he was discontinued sculpt

    4. For some of my dolls, yes. For other dolls, I normally found them pretty at first, but more I look at them, the more I fall in love, so I bought them.

    5. Just once with Lunnula Moonbeams

    6. So some of the Volks LE girls were love at first sight, some the more you looked at, the more you loved and pined.
My grail girls, the Volks Miruku and Kurumi were the first on that list. Next came Lieselotte, then Luna, then Lucia.
Now I'm hunting for a Lucia, and find myself pining for a fricking Volks Charlotte.....it never ends. However, if it did end, I'd be a very bored person. The dolls are my biggest hobby right now...

    7. I hadn't found any male sculpt I liked enough and I was starting to think that maybe I just liked female dolls. But then I saw Rosen Garden's Coilin and I fell in love :aheartbea

    8. Absolutely:)
My newest SD boy was love at first sight.
      Insane magnetism lol
He came up for sale last weekend and everything just clicked for me.
Over the last 2 years returning to the hobby this is the first time this has happened.
Best feeling ever, better than finding a grail!
I saw him 4 weeks earlier on Instagram and was impressed he was gorgeous and when he came up for sale I didn't hesitate to buy him. I was saving up for a different doll but my Instagram boy was so much better then the doll I originally wanted. :)

    9. Blueblood Genx Nile still want him still till this day can't find him anywhere sadly

    10. I first saw the limited wei yue jin by telesthesia x dragon doll on a taobao shop, and it was INSTANT love. I didn't connect with any other male sculpt before this so I just knew that he was gonna be the one for me, my grail :love the only thing was I was certain this was a resculpt (it was listed as shuga fairy) so I spent ages trying to identify the sculpt and company, then finally finding it and being crushed to see it was a limited sculpt from last year... my dreams were dashed :...(:...(

Thankfully a found a legit shop that's miraculously still selling this limited sculpt!! I dithered for about a week before I finally placed the order and I'm SO excited for him to arrive :3nodding: he should come in about 3-4 months!

    11. i decided to check out wei yue jin fullset since he sounds really pretty, and fell in love with his baby fox version. im dithering if i should get him, i have no plans to bring a kid sculpt home, but so cute.

    12. It's happened twice and I will soon own 9 dolls lol. First time was with my very first doll (OT vinyl doll), second time was with Popovy Sisters Venus Body :love

I've discovered that I can't just keep a doll around because they're nice to look at, I need to form a personal bond with them. So now I no longer buy dolls that I only just think are cute. I only get them if I start daydreaming about their personalities, stories etc.

    13. That's how I felt just recently about the Dream Valley event going on. I love the creepy aesthetic going on.

    14. I'm still pretty new to the hobby but so far it's happened twice.
Aimerai Neo: He was the first doll That I saw getting into the hobby that fit my aesthetic. But I wasn't sure If I really loved him because he was one of the first dolls that I've ever seen. But I saw him back in January and now it's October and he's still on my brain so I think it's safe to say I genuinely love him. Lillycat Chibbi Newt Chocolate: She's a more recent one so we'll have to see if she passes the honeymoon phase. But I absolutely love her right now. Her resin color is gorgeous.

    15. Not a BJD, but as soon as I laid eyes on the original Lil’ Fairy Erunoe I knew I needed to have her. She was hard to find at the time as she had just released and people were still holding onto her, but I managed to find one at Mandarake and I have loved her ever since. Still to this day she is the perfect doll to me.

For BJDs, I’ve been smitten with DDS Alice Kuonji ever since I saw her mentioned on another forum and looked her up. Never had any interest in Volks dolls until then (and I’ve seen many in person many times).

    16. Got absolutely destroyed when I saw harucasting Wind on his most recent preorder. I'd just ordered my first bjd from myou and was happy to get such an affordable doll for what I wanted, and then I saw Wind and was like.....well, money isn't everything hahaha.

    17. Popovy dolls were the first dolls that I fell in love with and sparked my interest in the hobby. Dust of Dolls cham boyl was another one.

    18. The first one that caught my eyes was a Minifee Hwayu. I was so happy I shed a few tears when she arrived.:kitty1

    19. I can’t believe this happened to me again (after happening twice before over my long years in the hobby) but it did! I thought I was done collecting after all this time, and I’d finally run out of characters to shell. But I was innocently perusing the company news section here on DoA, clicked on a post and *instant jaw drop* there she was! A Myou Macarena in all her resplendent fullset. And I had to have her…no matter what…budget out the window…don’t care…can’t live without her! So I put her on a long layaway and here we go again.:chomp:

    20. I only have love at first sight dolls! If I'm not head over heels for them, I don't consider purchasing them. Which I would hope would keep the impulse purchases down, but I, heh, started this year with zero dolls and now have three. (Four counting an off-topic vinyl one in the same scale/style.) Granted, I'd seen Impldoll Avery months before and was smitten then, but waited until I'd paid off my student loans before putting in an order. Then Seed.Arts had Wol heads for sale and goodness the promo pictures leading up to it were so sweet, then Huajing Doll cropped up in the News forum with their brand new Tian Ni sculpt...

Fingers crossed there's no more terribly, horribly appealing dolls until I can move to a bigger space. And I sew the current crew more god damn pants.

    21. My love at first sight doll was Switch's Pavian! I knew Switch back when it was called Sonyeongi, and I was fond of their overall aesthetic back then, but at that time I was still very young and incapable of owning a bjd of my own (so there was a point where I browsed bjd sites less and less). 10 years later and I thought Sonyeongi had disappeared, only to know it's been rebranded as Switch.

Scrolling through the site and viola! Love at first sight with Pavian. Even though he's a monthly sculpt and seems remarkably less popular than their other sculpts, I think he's just so lovely. <3

    22. The doll in my icon is this doll:
      lutsdoll co.,ltd.

And I thought about him every day for about a month... and finally worked up the guts to order him. Now I have one! :D

    23. My doll family A Angel was love at first sight. I'd gone to a doll meet at a place that sold bjd, and I spent the entire time playing with him. So I just bought him right away, and he's been with me ever since, about 10 years now. The funny thing is if i'd onky seen his promo picture, I would never have considered him. The official pic had an awful wig and just didn't appeal to me at all.

More recently, I bought Myoudoll Maccarena the day she was revealed because it was instant love, I just needed her and her fullset

    24. All of the Soom Petit Gems!! There isn't one I don't like! TwT But I didn't know they existed until long after their sales.. Luckily I'm adopting a Pa-an, now I'm waiting for her to be mailed. I'm very excited to finally hold one~! <3

    25. I haven’t felt that by looking at them online but I have had a few that I fell in love with when I opened the box. I’m reserved with my feelings until they are actually with me, I don’t want to get my hopes up too much and be disappointed.

    26. Yes I do. Thats why I bought my first doll last December. It is Leo from Ringdoll. I saw him and I totally fell in love.
      Hopefully my expectations come true:kitty1:kitty2

    27. Unfortunately that does happen quite often. Which makes it hard not to impulse buy so much :sweat

    28. I’ve already had two, and I’m saving for both currently. The first is MYOU Basil, he’s just SO freaking pretty and cute. I adore his eyes so much, and he would make the perfect base to shell one of my characters. MYOU has very good prices, too~

The second was not at all what I planned first getting into the hobby, but after actually having a doll I really want her: An An from Island Doll. I like her proportions much more than most other anthro tinies like ZuZus or Dear Mines since her head isn’t as big, and she’s so tiny I could just take her around with me anywhere!! The forest island dolls have such adorable little legs and even little hearts on their chests, how could I NOT fall in love immediately… and she’s only like 100 dollars since I’d paint her myself!

    29. It usually takes me a while to warm up to the idea of any doll, but my first BJD was actually love at first sight. 5 Star Doll's Tumnus. I've had him since September 2011 and I don't regret it one bit. He was and remains my favorite doll.

More recently I fell in love at first sight with Doll Leaves Steven. I hesitated for a couple of months, then finally got him. He doesn't fit perfectly into my existing doll family, but I couldn't resist his forlorn little face. For a while I considered selling him, but changed my mind, and glad I decided to keep him.

    30. My first one was Dollzone Merlin. I was browsing dolls and thought I would never find a male doll I would love and the next minute he was there and I had to have him. I've been waiting 9 months and everytime I think of him my heart flutters and I can't wait! I've also recently fallen head over heals for Faewoodsdoll Amanita on Instagram. She WILL be comming home lol

    31. For me is was a ringdoll kimmy. I love the full set and I hope I can get him soon :D

    32. SartoriaJ's MSD Naomi is the first doll I bought just because I thought she was pretty. I've got a doll crush on Iplehouse's Isabel.

    33. Minifee Dina , minifee lucywen and feeple60 carol

    34. All the dolls I have bought, and am still to buy from my must have list, have been love at first sight:love.

Thinking more on the subject however made me realize that I have fallen harder for some than the others. (Dollzone The Star&Moon, Souldoll Juno and Baby pink unicorn).

    35. Volks Mai for me. She’s so sweet. I kept thinking about her after the first glance.

    36. There were a few dolls for me that I definitely had that experience with! My first one was my Minifee Mio! I absolutely ADORE the sculpt and am so glad I have it in both tan and normal because I am obsessed with the look. I didn't do like any research on the doll at all, I just knew I needed to have it because of how beautiful the design was. The second one was my Gem of Doll Gaia doll 1/4 size. When I saw the SD size of the sculpt I was in love with it but heartbroken that it was SD since that's just not a good size fit for me. When I found out that they had it in 1/4 size I bought it immediately! The most recent one was my Gem of Doll Chris sculpt! I'm always a sucker for any type of fantasy doll and I've always wanted a wolf/human mix and his sculpt was the perfect combination!

    37. The one I just ordered was love at first sight. He is a Dean Full set from Dream Valley. I saw him and couldn't get him off my mind for months until I finally ordered him. He really matches the theme I have (more fairytale type dolls and storylines). I can't wait to get him.

    38. A few times yes. When I first saw the Dream of Doll Ducan; I knew i had to have him. I pined for months, until one day when fortune smiled my way and I was able to afford him. I went back and forth in my head for a few days, until my partner told me to stop waffling and order him. I got him fullset and an extra outfit; so glad I did because DOD seems to have disappeared.

    39. I really want a Simply Divine Thomas head sculpt! It was love at first sight for real. Not so settled on a body yet though.

    40. Eid Doria from Iplehouse. ❤️
      [IMG]

    41. Volks DWC #01 and 水銀燈:kitty2

    42. I am sad to say they canceled my order due to him no longer being available. I am so sad now...

    43. For me that would be Telesthesia's Xiao Bei! (The younger 62cm one, not the age of 21 one. Although I am getting his head on the 68cm body) He shipped only 22 days after my order too which I CANNOT believe!! I can't wait for him to arrive!!

    44. Love at first sight for me! But I am pitter-pattering around in thought before I let the hype carry me away. With the hobby being rather expensive and me being impulsive, I need to take care not to give in to temptation and do research first to see if she is what I really want. I have put out something of a last call in the Doll Reference forum to see if my interest in the doll is sustainable.

    45. I wouldn't say yes to this question. Back before I ever got my dollfie, I definitely wanted one for a good long while. I absolutely loved the faces on the smart dolls. Something about them is just really cute, but I still wouldn't say I was in love with it. I was always a little hesitant to get one still. Even after I did get my first doll, I opened up the box and was pretty taken back by the sheer size of her. It was NOT love at first sight... I honestly had a mini anxiety attack. It started to feel better pretty fast though. Only once I got her dressed and put her wig on did it start feeling more normal.

    46. Ringdoll XunYu. The faceup done by Tainbao was absolutely stellar. It was limited edition that I missed out on along with crazy competitions. I would totally get him if I were to be given a chance

    47. My second one! I fell in love with the face of the Luts Muse Carmine and placed the order within 2 days. My biggest "impulse" purchase inside and outside the hobby

    48. I don't normally experience this. Or at least I'd put "love at first sight" in a different emotional category than "I have to have this." But Dust of Dolls sparked "love at first sight" in me with Lunn, and then again with Chae, and I'd say they're pretty much grail dolls. I also fell in love with the Luts Bliss sculpt, but that one's much more attainable, lmao.

    49. It requires some pitter pattering for me to like a doll, although some of mines were love at first sight. I really do dread love at first sight since it basically means obsession and impulse buy to curb that obsession and give myself a peace of mind that the doll wouldn't be bought by someone else.

    50. it happened again...i fall in love with dolls too easily lol. most of the dolls i own are ones i fell in love with cuz of their promo pics but this doll was from user pics. Its minifee alan, i didnt care for him with the default faceup but after seeing what other ppl have done with him i HAD to have him and now hes on layaway lol

    51. I fell instantly and obsessively in love with Nur by Irrealdolls. He is my #1 grail doll right now. I love everything about his sculpt. One day I hope to find him ❤️

    52. DC Medusa was like that, though for me it's a gut feeling of "must have that doll!!". I rarely buy dolls that don't give me that feeling. I've bought a few that I thought were kind of cute, but that's not good enough, and I'm stuck with storing and selling those dolls. Or worse, trying to like the doll and wasting money on wigs and clothes, or even getting a new face up.
I also have several " hate at first sight dolls. They never get past that.

    53. Yes when I saw Haazel for the first time it was love at first sight! I couldn't buy him back then though because I was jobless but I remembered him a year later, hunted for him, and started my first BJD layaway. :XD:

I was jobless then too but I got one so I could keep up with the payments LOL.

Then I saw Er1trea, I wasn't fond of her spirit face but her normal face was super cute and (almost) everything I wanted in a female doll. :D I love nurse/medical themes so as soon as ACBJD stocked her I started another layaway :sweat

    54. Mona by Impldoll for sure, and wouldn't you know, she became my very first BJD. That said, years ago what drew my interest to the hobby was, if I remember correctly, one of the girls from Iplehouse but I don't remember which sculpt. I didn't have the means to afford one at the time, so in a sense Mona kind of sparked my interest all over again, and for good this time haha

    55. Yes! I only buy dolls that I like at the first sight. And that’s the only way I’m not gonna regret after I receive it. In fact I did tried to make purchase decision depend on other things such as cost-effective, popularity, whether is easy to find accessories for it….. However I lost interest very quick after I do receive the doll. I think the most important thing about choose a doll is how you feel when you first look at it

    56. Seira, by Vings (Dollvings). Saw him on Instagram toward the end of the preorder window, and after a day of thinking really hard (I still need space to process an impulse buy, heh), I got onto a Taobao shopping service in a mad rush to secure him. Unfortunately I still missed the preorder due to unfortunate logistical mistakes, but I'm waiting for a next chance.

Love at first sight happens rarely to me, and it's rarer that I have love at first sight and a good gut feeling about the doll. I've had a few loves that my gut didn't feel good about, I usually sit on those. Well, those loves faded away so I'm glad I held off.

It's been some weeks since I missed the preorder for Seira, but I still like the sculpt and really want to get him. So I think this love at first sight experience is a true one. We'll see whether it holds up over time!

    57. I only have one doll and don't plan on getting another one. I did a lot of searching when I was trying to decide what doll I wanted and when I found the sculpt I currently have, I knew it was the one! :)

    58. I try to stick with "gotta have" dolls. The most important was my DC Medusa, in green skin. That sad face! The jointed fingers! I knew she would be hard to fit, so I sewed for her, despite giving it up in general. Definitely a grail doll.

    59. Happened just the other day. A Ringdoll Fortunata. And even though I already had two layaways, I had to have her. So she's on her way.

    60. I fell head over heels for Luts' Honey Delf Pretzel. While I ended up not keeping that particular doll, I'll always love her promo picture.
