Have you ever saw a doll and knew they were the one or did you patter patter around a little before deciding? PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Definitely! I've seen a lot of dolls that I liked, that I would love to own, but while browsing Alice's Collections I found Dikadoll Yolanda Elf. I loved her right away, her half-closed eyes, pointed ears, facial features, AND she's affordable for my budget. She's the next doll I'm going to get!
the first doll i really fell in love with was DOD Shall. Was at the beginning of beeing in the hobby but now I don't want to have her anymore cause I prefer mor real human looking dolls
I only had the 'love at first sight' 2 times so far. The first time it was really like: I saw the doll and bam! ...I fell in love with her. She still is my one and only real grail, even though I wont have any plans in my stories so far for her. (Somehow I still hope to get her one day anyway ^^) The other time I found the one sculpt for my main character. But I couldnt decide if I should buy it or not...and then thought 'maybe not'...'maybe yes' and cycled around it for quite some time now. And now I really regret it and thought it was love at first sight and how I could be so stupid to not 'follow the call', so to say. Edit: Brought my second big love home and couldn't be happier. Those dolls, you fall for instantly, are really something special. ^^
Once... It was Doll Chateau's Mona. She seemed like such a work of art, and it propelled me to buy my first doll (Dollmore suntan Paran), but I never thought I could own her. But then they decided to discontinue her in May, so my fiance is buying her for me for Xmas/Birthday (and maybe a little anniversary too, lol)! Not sure if I'll even do anything but stare starry-eyed at her, but soooo excited/fortunate to be able to bring her home!
Twice. The first time was with the doll that's on the way - Magic Time's Rachel. The second time - yesterday, in fact, was with Switch's Ajeong. My heart skipped a beat when I saw him. It seems my love tilts towards sculpts that I can't get my hands on easily since both dolls are limited editions.
Twice so far. One was D.I.M. Honey Alana. I immediately knew I wanted her. When the company discontinued the line, I pounced. I adore her body and her face and am so glad I got to bring her home. The second was one of Fairyland's newest limiteds. I paid for one the day after he was available for sale. I also want most of Lume Doll's 1/6 dolls as they are amazing. Haven't bought one yet, but that should change soon!
I've started my doll collection not so long ago (last year), but my love at first time (FIRST time) was Volks' Okita Souji. It might be because I was a big fan of Shinsengumi and Japanese history. Anyway, I didn't manage to get him because he was limited and sold out many years already. The second time was IOS Lacrimosa. He looked so gorgeous in their official photos but...same as Souji-kun...He was sold out long long ago... (My heart was broken again...) And the third time, last month, I found my another love at first sight during reading some threads on BJD board and found...Luts SSDF Avalanche Romance ver. (*o*)... He was so handsome and totally my type. The best thing was, he was a regular doll and still sold by Luts. So I ordered him without hesitating and now...waiting for him to arrive. Finally my ideal doll's dream comes true! And I don't think that I will collect more dolls because my expected number of them is almost full.
For me, it was volks kujo. Before I picked him out, I looked at every other doll I could find online, but I always had an image of kujo at the back of my mind telling me that he was the one. Luckily, there was one for sale at the time
For the most part I have to think about the dolls and sculpts I bring home, but I have a handful that were love at first sight: Dollmore Kara Klum - the only reason I'm in the hobby. I still think he's the most beautiful doll out there, which is why I just keep getting more >.<. B&G Sapphira - The first doll that made me break my "characters only" rule. I just had to have him Migidoll Miho - I think I'll always love this mold Peakswoods Goldie (and the wakeup version) - one of my first dream dolls. I knew eventually I'd have to cave and get one, but it took a couple of years. Volks Michele - the only doll I could consider my "grail" doll because I didn't think I would ever get him There are other dolls that I've seen and thought they were so cute and I had to have them, but these guys stood the test of time for me, I wanted them all since the first year I was in the hobby and I still feel the same way about them.
Yes. My Bobobie March and Iplehouse Benny were love at first sight. They're my two favorite girls. Josslyn (March) is my first doll. I knew she was it when I saw her tucked away in the vendor's shelf. Adia (Benny) is the first one I ordered. She's from the first release. I loved her expression and light in her promo pictures and she was just perfect. She's doubly special to me because she is a gift. I could sell all the dolls I have but these two girls are pure love. Adia and Josslyn by silverholly83, on Flickr
I was about to say, "ALL my dolls were love at first sight", but in fact that wouldn't be true. Some were love at second sight, there is one I bought despite not liking the sales pictures, and there is one I bought after letting no less than two sales periods pass :p. My memories just tend to get a bit distorted by the fact that I love all of them... So, real love at first sight: Dollzone Scarecrow Hal - this was my first doll, whom I bought within five days of discovering the term "bjd". I set eyes on him and I just Had To Have Him. I still love him to bits, and I don't think there is a single MSD face that I love as much as his. I got him a spare head that I had face-upped by an artist, because though it isn't that great, I can't bear to wipe his company face-up - it is how he first came to me and therefore it's special. Dollzone Aurora - I was not as completely smitten with her as with Scarecrow Hal, simply because she didn't look *perfectly* like the character I turned her into (Hal did). But I was so obsessed with Aurora that I got her anyway. She is too tall and too stern to be the perfect Morgana, but I loved her as soon as I saw her and still don't regret buying her. Twice. Oh and when it was announced that she was going to be discontinued, I bought a third Aurora head, just in case anything ever happens with the other two :p. La Légende de Temps Roderich - I bought my first Roderich off the MP. I didn't know anything about him or the company - no resin match, no nothing. I just knew I wanted that head for my Gawain. Now I have three Roderich heads :p. Dollzone Pepper - I'd told my self "no more 16 cm dolls, they are too small!", but then I saw Pepper and couldn't resist. So he came to join the family. The strangest thing for me is, um, love at second sight. I don't understand how that works. There are two dolls (Granado Sidonia and Dollzone Yogr) at which I didn't look twice when they were released. They didn't appeal to me at all. (Yogr, I thought, was quite hideous.) Then one day, bam! - all of a sudden I really wanted to bring them home. And I'm very glad that I did! They aren't as traditionally "pretty" as many other dolls, but that is what I like about them.
Ringdoll Jack. With the complete fullset of course. I'm always a sucker for steampunk and all my dolls are on the creepier side. Luckily I found enough money to start a layaway while he was still in stock. He's home now. It makes me very happy.
Yes! My first doll. I had discovered BJDs at an anime con and really liked Dollfie Dreams. While I was saving for the 04 head, one of my favorite artists decided to get a Luts KDF someone or other. I started looking into the company, and as soon as I laid eyes on KDF Ani, I knew I had to have her. Now I do and I love her to bits. It amazed me how quickly I threw my ambitions to get a DD out the window though, even though I ended up getting one later on, haha.
Strangely I had the same experience with dollzone Yogr as Sigune did! I am not really a collector of YOSD size dolls, but my Yogr is one of the 2 'keepers forever' I have In fact a few of my total favourites were dolls I didn't really like that much and was thinking of selling - boxed up etc. Then out of curiosity I swapped eyes and wigs on them (a good selection of each is essential) and BAM!!! Love at 2nd sight! I almost love these dolls more for surprising me! Love at first sight happened with my impldoll Marcus - I ordered him next day in a fever of desperation. Strangely after having him home for a few months, I started to feel cold towards him, and eventually just wanted him GONE - so I sold his head and bought a Tony head instead - a sculpt I hadn't really liked at all till I saw some owner pics. I totally love him, and this time it's forever equally I've had love at first sight go totally RIGHT - my luts yul satyress being THE ONE. I've never really liked anthros much, don't collect midis, and always found luts a bit too pretty (I'm same with fairyland dolls - too pretty for me) but I love my yul 'deertaur' sooooo much *happy sigh* there really doesn't seem to be any logic to love - I guess that's what it's all about!
I never felt that sort of attraction before with other dolls but the last one I bought was an instant decision for me... of course Ihad to wait for months and saved, but from the moment I saw her, her company photos were my phone and laptop's wallpaper pictures. So yes : love at first sight !
Several times. Usually I can tell whether a doll will work or not for me when I see it. I've only had one doll (want) that really grew on me, and that was the Island Doll Vivien who I want for my Dr. Who character. I really dismissed her at first and then I kept coming back. There's this great quote Amy gives about Rory, that he becomes "his face" and it's talking about inner beauty. I had that kind of moment with that doll.
I fell in love with Doll Chateau Hugh the first time I saw him, and was convinced for so long that he would be my first doll, but then sadly I sort of fell out of love with the sculpt for a while (mainly because he just wasn't right for the character I wanted to shell at the time), but now he's back on my wishlist and destined for a different character of mine! I also instantly fell in love with Dollzone Choco, even though I'm not too interested in collecting tinies, but his face is just too cute! I actually ended up basing a character right off the sculpt itself intending to shell it at some point, but then I stupidly 'grew up' that character and now I like the older version of the character better (even though I still love the Choco sculpt to bits) but since the older version would be an MSD I'm more likely to get that one. >.>; Though as much as I'm in love with a sculpt I still need to think over a purchase (a lot) before I'll buy it -w-
I had a few. Soul Doll Juhl was my first lve at first sight. I had to have him and he was my first doll and he is definitely my favorite. The second time this happened was when I saw Soul Doll Hunoi. I don't have him but I really want him even though I have never thought about owning a MSD sized doll. I love so many Soul Doll sculpts The third time was when I saw IOS Chaos and Jaguar. I ordered from them on March before they were discontinued and I could only afford one of them. I got myself a Chaos head and I love him so much. Now all he needs is a body.
Most of the dolls I have were love at first sight. Dollshe Saint, Migidoll Miho, Soom Amber, Heliot, Dia, Crow and Ender especially. I didn't care if I didn't have an immediate plan for what I wanted to do with them because I fell hard for their sculpts. The others I had to give it some thought first because I really liked them but they weren't immediate "must haves", so I wanted a plan for what I was going to do with them before buying them.
Yes, that happens to me quite often although once in a while one will sneak up on you. If my heart goes thud and the doll inspires a character then I know I can order.
That would be all of my Minifees. xD I fell in love with both Chloe and Shushu at first sight. I had to decide which one to get first though since I could only afford one at the time. >.< Then I found a 2013 Juri that someone was selling and had to have her even if she would be a floating head for a while. xD
My most successful dolls have been love at first sight, to the point where now I try not to buy unless that's the case. Keitaro, my DIM Rain, is my "cold dead hands" doll, i.e. the only way someone will get him is to pry him out of. Sometime after doing a Rain limited release, DiM put him up on their website, and I thought I really wanted to see owner pics first, so I sat back and waited to by him. The window I was willing to wait kept getting shorter -- maybe next birthday, then maybe Christmas before that, then 3 weeks after his release I gave in and bought him. It turned out he had been an unofficial one-off; they were only selling the one at that time. He is still my favorite doll these many years later. Then Lysander, my Cherishdoll Chubby Demon LE, I knew I had to get him when I looked at the picture, closed the browser and went to do chores, and started getting all sorts of backstory brainstorming in my head. He's another one I'd have a hard time parting with. In contrast, the dolls I deliberated on and chose from among options, they're currently in their boxes while I decide whether to resell them or not.
This happen to me while I'm browsing some BJD photos. I looking to the Unoa Fairy Skin in a magazine and I was really captivated with how graceful and beautiful doll exist. When I discovered what kind of doll she was, I was really discouraged with the price and disappointed knowing it is only preorder in limited time. So I can only dreaming and hoping, eventually she is going to be a permanent resident in my wish lisht as my grail doll.
For me, It was Leekeworld mabel were love at first sight. This happen to me while I'm browsing some doll photos for my first doll.
Love at first sight, usually. I fall in love with a sculpt and either I know "that's {OC}!" or I start thinking who they could be, and once I've got a match, they go on the wishlist. If I were to buy every doll I love I'd need a separate room for them, not to mention a fortune to afford them all So while I love a lot of sculpts, I only buy them if they fit one of my characters.
I fell in love with gong ming dragon doll but didn't run around happy (I have done that with a few anime though). I have however known I must own a few anime figures such as Aoba from dramatical murder. They're rereleasing him at his original non inflated price and by Jove HE WILL BE MINEEEEEEEEEEEEE! MWUAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAH! Really hoping he's a January or later release though.
When I first saw Crobidoll Zion I couldn't believe how much he looked like my favourite OC. I already had a Volks F-20 shelled as that character, but the Zion was just so much more "him" that I had to have him. I still have the F-20, but he's someone else now.
I've only ever seen two sculpts where it was love at first sight. The first was when I was looking at practically every sculpt that ever existed (it certainly felt that way) and thought that nothing was really a good match to be Deidara. My problem was that I wanted his distinct features represented on a realistic sculpt. I then saw Souldoll's human Chiron and LOVED the face. I didn't have much experience at the time so it didn't even occur to me that it had the possibility of being Deidara and forgot about it. Later I looked around their site again and decided to take a look at their wigs (I can't remember why) and suddenly, BAM. Deidara was staring back at me. I mean like he had the right hair and face and whatnot. I had no idea which sculpt that was! So I compared it to every Zenith size doll on their site and lo and behold, it was the human Chiron. The second one was almost the same situation. I noticed Dollclans when they first opened and released their Kien head. It was the only sculpt I ever went back to keep looking at and after about two years, I just let it go because I had no reason to get another doll. Then the Hakuoki games were finally localized in english and I got to play it and I loved Souji so much that I wanted to get him in doll form. This time I decided that the sculpt didn't have to be realistic but not very anime-y either yet with all the sharpness of Hakuoki's art. Once again, I looked everywhere and not a single doll seemed to fit. I actually avoided looking at the Kien sculpt because I didn't want to get it just because I knew I liked it and I thought I might try to MAKE it be Souji even if it didn't really fit. I asked my boyfriend for his opinion on lots of dolls and finally he asked me about the one I liked before and that he thought it would make a really good Souji. My jaw dropped, I was so shocked that he even remembered what Kien looked like but looking at the sculpt again, we both confirmed: PERFECT SOUJI. I was so happy even though I was the one doing the stupid thing like avoiding him. OTL
I've gotten to the point where I try and wait a but before buying because I always think I love a doll but many times I move on to a new sculpt a month later! If I've wanted a doll for longer than a month, that's when I know I should get her. I have experienced love at first sight a few times though! Once with my first doll and again with Fairyland Chloe
Soom Megagem Shoshon was my love at first sight doll. Well, they all were, really, but his was the only one that I knew I had to have and as soon as possible. All of my other dolls I knew I would end up with eventually because I knew they are perfect for me(it took me two years to finally get a Lu Wen and longer to finally get a Doll-Zone Yuu in tan) but Kle was the one I pined for endlessly until I had him in hand XD Unfortunately when he was first released was when my car decided to tank it and all my money went to a new car. So I picked up a second job and worked as much as I could to save up enough for him by the time he started shipping to people and I could try to find one on the second hand market. I lost two auctions and finally, finally obtained him via lay-a-way for which I would have literally slammed the money on the table had I been in the same room as the buyer XD And I still squee everytime I see him even after three and a half years <;w;>
Iplehouse Lonnie was sort of love at first sight. I haven't ordered her yet but only because I have a lot of money tied up with Lati right now so I wanted to wait a bit. But I was just browsing pictures on Flickr and came across a picture of someone's Lonnie and it was a immediate "OMG WHAT DOLL IS THAT?" moment. I think it was largely because of her faceup though. Soom iMda Modigli is then same. I'm thinking of putting her on layaway but I don't she doesn't cost enough to qualify for it and since it's not during a sale period at Soom, a lot of the accessories are sold out =/
Definitely Narae N406, Model Delf Cian and Withdoll Taren. When I saw those three ... I had that moment. THAT moment. It was love ♥
Oh yes I have. The head I'm pinning for right now is a prime exaample. I could have gotten any other in the mean time, and I have so the character has now two heads (or will have when the second is released), but I'm still sticking to this one because nothing compaires to it. The Luts El was like that too, but it helped having him in my hands and not only seeing a pic.
My Yellow Pipos rainbow cheese mouse was like this. Normally I am a lover of all things blue, so when I seen this Yellow mouse I was stunned to find my self thinking more about the yellow one than the blue one! Just something about her face just grabbed me. I did wait before I bought her, I usually wait when I see a doll I like, if I keep thinking about it I know I love it. But if I get the meh... and find another doll to swoon over I know the other is just a like and not a love.
Yep! This has happened to me quite a few times. Soom Beryl was my very first (but I discovered her after she was sold out). Then came Soom Cuprit (who I put on layaway within hours of seeing her full sale photos). Soom Migma was another - I'd had a looong dry period of not being wowed by Soom's dolls, and then fell completely head over heels for her in the Light Violet skin tone. I also fell hard for Rosette School of Dolls Delilah, but originally passed on her because she was released on a Muse (43cm) body. When they had a Free Choice Event where I could get her on the Pure (47cm) body - and in Brown Tan! - I jumped on her right away. I think that if you have a very limited budget, or are planning on restricting yourself to only a few dolls no matter what, it's better to wait for a doll that you love at first sight. I enjoy all my dolls, but the ones I loved at first sight will always be a bit more special than the rest of my collection.
My first proper love at first sight that really struck a cord was my DOD Homme Ducan, at the mo I'm smitten with TOW's Grey elf boy (too hard remembering his sculpt name xD), I saw a faced up head of him and loved it but couldnt find the doll, then I stumbled across him and I'm in love agen :3 he'd look so good with my Ducan >:3 but otherwise I go more for which doll fits characters I want from my stories
Yup. ;-; Withdoll Aiden. As soon as I saw his face, I fell in love. I'm a bit worried that my love of him means he won't be close enough to looking like Cecil... @_@ but he looks Cecil-like enough for me, and that's important. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I827 using Tapatalk 2
Oh yes. Luts SDF Dion Nine Tails. Unfortunately, I only found out about him after the LE had come and gone, so I will probably never obtain one. I keep poking at Marketplace hoping one will show up, though! In the meantime, I guess I can admire the photos. :p
Yes! Doll Chateau Alberta. I ordered her when she first came out because I was afraid she might be limited. I love my quirky moosetaur!
My heart went pitter patter when I first saw Elin. She's what got me into bjds and ironically I still haven't received her yet. I placed my order 2 months ago so she should be here any time now. Since I've placed my Elin order, I've gotten 3 other bjds off of Ebay that I fell in love with. I adore them too and am excited to see where this journey will take me.
I'm actually almost done paying off a layaway on the marketplace for my first grail, Soom Picro! After that, I have a few more that I consider grails because it was love at first sight~ They are Dollzone Moon, Soom Koori/Yuki, Soom Shale/Adamelli, Soom Flint/Hawa, Xagadoll Cyrus, Aileendoll limited ice or cherry blossom Ashes (whoops I really like dragons), Bluefairy Robin, MNF Celine/Chloe (either way, I love both), and pretty much any of the LUTS tiny centaurs and oh gosh Yul Satyress I LOVE her. I suppose you could also say that my DC Ada and Soom Dolomi were love at first sight because when I saw they were on the marketplace, I contacted the sellers immediately about getting them nwn;;
BeYours Kikiyou. I saw the female version first then I saw the male and it was game over. It's the reason I'm back in this hobby when I was ready to sell off my entire collection. If I can't get Kikiyou due to its limited run then MiracleDoll Qian head, which I just found, is a definite yes although the body is not. Doll Chataeu. They remind me of the disquieting severity that is The Five Star Stories Fatima/Automatic Flowers, and Dolores is 100% perfect as Fatima Icarus. Actually, the Fatima designs are so emaciated that the male DC bodies would have zero problems cosplaying females. DollSoom Idealion Hyperon as what looks like an homage to Vampire Hunter D. I'm an old school anime/manga fan, what can I say.
For almost all of the dolls that I've bought I feel in love with when I first saw them, but I still do a little research on them before I start saving for it or just straight up buy it. I may not be able to customize said doll the same way it was in the picture so I always look at multiple owner pictures to see what I could do and if certain things will work or not.
Over a year ago I saw a photograph of the most beautiful doll while browsing the web--an ebony Iplehouse Ashanti. I knew I could never afford such a doll so I pinned her photo onto pinterest and moved on. Except I didn't. I would find myself going back to look at her again and again. Then, I decided to join DoA to learn more about BJDs. I was sidetracked in the long wait for membership approval. It's been a long time since I was approved for membership here, but I'm only now really researching BJDs and that's because once more Ashanti is haunting me in the best way possible. I cannot get her image out of my head; she completely entranced me since the first time I saw a picture of her. I am now saving up and look forward to the day when I can bring my own Ashanti home--I think if I'm still this dedicated to her after seeing her well over a year ago then she is well worth the expense.
I love like almost all dolls so it's pretty hard for me to tell when I -reallyreally- love one enough to add to my wishlist xD;... There are always multiple possibilities for me, even when I'm shelling a character. So yeah, there's always lots of hem-ing and haw-ing even over the sculpts I love the most :/
Iple Olivia. I saw her and I had to buy her immediatly even if I told myself to not buy more than a doll a year.
There are several more expensive dolls that I adore, but it's Resinsoul Dan's face sculpt that has me completely smitten. There's something very Mona Lisa-esque about her smile and after having a couple dolls with more dour expression, I appreciate her levity.
This happened with my grail doll Soom Phonolus! I had just discovered Soom, and when I googled the company Phonolus was one of the dolls that came up. I instantly fell head over heels in love with him; I knew I just had to get him . Unfortunately, shortly after finding him I discovered that his ordering period had already come and gone. Needless to say: pretty bummed . I never fell out of love with him, and I didn't give up searching for him; now I finally have him! Still love him, and I will never sell him.
i have seen and fell in love with a few. the doll i have named Aria. she was love at first sight. my Thyme horse i fell for as soon as i saw her.. and i ordered one right away before they were sold out. and a doll from RS i want so bad.. i fell in love with her also when i saw her.. she will be mine soon!!
I had that once with the Doll Chateau Lilith I currently have. I never had any interest in that sculpt, as the pictures on the Doll Chateau website are not that interesting, but I was once browsing for a Doll Chateau Queena in the MP for a friend and I clicked on a listing of a Lilith just for fun and my god, her custom face-up was so adorable! I had plans to get a yoSD size doll in the future, but not that one so I tried to push it away, but I just kept coming back to her so I just had to get it
Only twice so far for me, first was my Unoa Lusis, then my MNF Rheia. Both are secondhand, it was just one of those things, I knew they were mine as soon as I saw them. ^_^
Pukifee Pukisha- originally for my first doll I wanted an MSD Resinsoul Mei, but I got a Pukisha faceplate for my birthday and... IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!! hehe
not really, i need to see many photo of a doll, with and without make up, different styles, getting for information of the head and the company before deciding to buy a doll
