Los Angeles Dolpa Thread (Nov. 24 & 25th)

May 2, 2007

    1. For me, it was oddly easy.

      Rule 1: Boy Only
Rule 2: Had to be SD size.

That ruled out a lot of it for me :)

    2. I think it was hard to tell he was a guy. He was SO cute but his outfit made him look pretty girly.
I wonder what happened to him- maybe he will be at the next Dolpa? He's lovely and I hope he goes to a good home.

    3. You were wibbly and my brain was on another planet, I kept wandering off when the president was trying to talk to me right after they handed me Gael. *_* The lights were on, but no one was home. I am thrilled that he mentioned Alia specifically in the report! :blush :blush :D

Congratulations, once again to all contest winners, as well as the lucky lottery winners! :D

      ~Anrui

    4. Mikey told me he was going back to Kyoto, but didn't say what would happen to him then. I hope he stays in one piece! :( SO many people have mentioned that he'd be great if X or Y was different. If he comes up on Y!J in mint condition someday my little heart will explode! :D

    5. Wow I really am surprised that a one-off would get no entry at all. Especially one that is a new mold. Most especially surprised since in some cases people redress them anyway

    6. I don't think it's that surprising. Mark is a standard model that is easily purchased for much cheaper, so unless you were absolutely gung-ho on the faceup and outfit, there's not much point in getting the one off. It's not like a one off of harder to find limiteds where even if you hate the faceup and outfit, it's still the cheaper option to get the doll you want.

    7. That was so sweet that you told them he was wanted, even though no one put in for him... poor boy! Too bad that there's no after-lottery-purchase allowed... :(

I hope he does stay together and shows up at another Dolpa!

    8. I was in the same scenario as yours. But my name was not drawn, I even made my entry ticket all wrinkly LOL

    9. I think you are absolutely right.

I was so tuned into William, since I have wanted him for so long and even though the face up was not completely my style, at least I would not have to continue to look for him in the secondary market. So I did not even realized that Mark was the third boy one-off there. (He did look like a girl to me at the time....:sweat :sweat And I am usually really good at separating out guys from girls, being a life time manga and anime fans and all LOL)

    10. I think a similiar thing happened to me last August when I tried for the School B girl that Mikey painted. ;D

    11. Awww... the After Report is up now, and it is so sweet! :D Mr. Shigeta is so wonderful with words. :chibi He's so poetic and kind. :aheartbea It looks like everyone had a great time! :love I can't wait till the next NY Dolpa! :dance

    12. I was surprised as well. I thought he was sweet and I would have put in for him if I had enough moolah at the time. :(
I dont think it had anything to do with him being a readily availible standard, I just think everyone who wanted him didnt have enough monneys! lol
Even though he is standard, you have to take into consideration he was painted by a highly saught after artist and had a designer outfit, which I feel definately justified the $200.00 or so more price than standard price.

He will probably be up for grabs at Sato, I believe they have one-offs up for sale every once in a while.

      *Jen

    13. Lol, I was another one who thought there were only two boys among the Ooaks. =D

Also, I'm really not into that fussy, frilly, baby-doll style clothing...not even on when its on babies. :P

For me, I was so put-off by the outfit, I barely looked at that doll.
Plus those bright red lips didn't help either. ;P

Gee, if I'd known he was a boy, I probably would have put in for him if only to rescue him from that silly outfit.

Strangely enough, even though I prefer boys, I put in for that striking Anais.
All I could think of was what an absolutely gorgeous boy she would make!

    14. That one-off Mark is spectacular. I know Mark's a standard - the only reason I'd ever want a fullset doll is if I wanted the *fullset,* and man, I'd have loved to see that Mark in person, exactly as he is. Sssssigh.

The after-report was so touching, thanks for posting the link!

    15. If I see him in Kyoto next year, I will ask Mikey about him.

And I have to say, it was so crowded around the one-offs that it was impossible to see them all. When I did see the photos of Mark he was adorable.

I just have to say, I hope everyone realizes that we all have different tastes so each person will feel differently about the way a doll will look. Just remember if you don't like a doll, please be polite about it. Someone else does like that doll and while you may feel it's okay to speak your mind, it can hurt other people.

    16. I don't think anyone was being overly rude or hurtful with their comments; they were just stating their preferences. Honestly, if people are having their feelings hurt over a doll that isn't even theirs, they need to get a thicker skin or life is going to be really hard :/

    17. That was completely unnecessary.

    18. Um, your smudgy face? Between me and my sig. other, can you say three photos? But it was for a good cause or two.

As for the one-offs, there was only one parameter. As you well know. :)

    19. I'm going to be polite here and just say that it's not just with this thread but elsewhere also. And yes, some times stating one's preferences can hurt others. The point of this thread is not to knock people or the way a doll looks but to share what was good about the LA Dolpa.

I'm just asking for a little consideration towards others here. Even if a doll doesn't belong to someone. I don't think being polite is a hard thing to do. And it can go a long way.

    20. Thank you. :aheartbea

    21. What is going on in other threads has nothing to do with what is happening here. No one was being inconsiderate, and no one was knocking how the doll looked; they were just stating that they would change certain things about him. Having an opinion and being polite are two very different things and whether you like it or not, not everyone is going to like what you like. And yes, stating one's preferences MAY hurt another, but it is impolite to say that they are being inconsiderate of other's feelings.

Consideration is a two-way street and saying that you think others should not express their preferences just in case they might hurt someone is also inconsiderate.

    22. ok guys, take it pm if you want to keep on about the "politeness" issue.

lets keep talking about how fun the dolpa was! :)

    23. thanks aimee.

    24. Sooo anyway, I was really busy on Sunday because I was a vendor, but I had been looking at the display tables that were set up in between the market area and the painting class area. I didn't really understand what they were because they seemed empty most of the time...until I saw everyone's photo's of their own dolls sitting in the ivy and such. :doh
I did think it was very cool that Volks also displayed two of their girls who had been featured in the photoshoot in Nippon Vogue. Since a couple of them were unusual hybrids, I had wondered if they had just been put together for the magazine, but they were just casually sitting there with the magazine open to their photos. I would have missed them completely if I hadn't been over peeking at Ciera's painting class. :)

    25. I loved that too. I like that there were designated areas where you could sit and chat with people. :)

those Vogue dolls were really interesting. I hadn't even been aware of the photoshoot till I saw it there! (and only saw that because I was chatting with someone while standing there)

    26. Vogue dolls? Which were these? I think I completely missed them.

    27. I had heard of the photo layout but hadnt actually seen the article until the dolpa - very interesting as they managed to add in the joints in some of the model pics! Some of us were wondering - are they human model bodies with dollfie heads??? Hard to tell even with the models there....Alex

    28. A couple of months ago, there was a five page spread in Vogue Nippon that featured clothing that had been photographed on human models collaged onto Volks dolls with a cute little page at the end featuring the stats of the individual models. There's a thread about it [thread=167806]here[/thread].
The two SD16 girls were at the Dolpa. :)

    29. As far as I remember nothing was mentioned about it. I really love the skin tone as well and hope they will release more dolls with it :) Only time will tell..

While we're on the topic of what was mentioned..did anyone hear anything about when the next LA Dolpa might be? :)

    30. I have a question for everyone who went, what jewelry item did you get after the banquet? Mine was a black chocker with a silver coloured rose on it.

    31. I want to hear about a NY East coast one....LOL!

    32. My boyfriend was lucky and got a pair of sun glasses...which he didn't want so my Sleeping A boy got them :D I got a necklace but I can't remember what it looks like since I traded it so someone for a metal chain necklace with a metal heart on it.

    33. i think i mentioned it to you already.. but it's a diamond and silver chain necklace..... it doesn't suit my Elf Prince tho.. or any of my other future resin lovelies. i'll be selling it soon. :sweat

    34. I answered this a few pages back, but just to reiterate... I got a pair of sunglasses and my boyfriend got a rose choker.

    35. I got a silver necklace with a pink charm and tiny key - very cute.

    36. I got a barrett with a wine colored velvet ribbon and some dangly silver charms off of it.

    37. I've answered this elsewhere, so sorry for those who've seen it before, but here's my Tsukiko wearing the long chain with colored gems that was the after-banquet gift...

    38. I'd like to hear about that too! Or a Chicago one....

    39. Ditto on a Chicago one. :P

    40. Like fireflytranc, I got lucky too and got sunglasses. Here's a picture of my Daisuke wearing them:

    41. I got like the worst jewelary gift. It's suppose to be a choker I guess. Plain piece of Maroon lace, with maroon velvet on each end, I assume to tie it in place. But that's all there is to it. I wondered if it could also be a fancy belt with how plain it was.

    42. Purple velvet choker with a silver, metal rose on it. I gave it to Rengemaru, and he's still wearing it.

    43. Mine was a choker as well..... There were sunglasses!!! I want sunglasses.... Maybe I will get lucky next time.

Well, Izam and I asked Shino-san on the second day. She told us that they are not sure yet. But they have received a lot of requests to have Dolpa in places other than NY and LA - like somewhere in the middle of the country, so that it would "fair" to other people (if I can phrase it that way." So there may be a possibility for Dolpa to take place in Texas.

    44. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I hope it's for real! (and that Chicago has a chance too, hee hee!)

    45. It's kind of a loli headband, I think. It's too big to be a choker, and too awkward to be a belt. I got a black one, and while I haven't used it yet, it could work well to tie my Ipsae's hair back.

    46. Texas would be cool.. I've always wanted to visit Texas and my friends just moved there so I think I'd be going if they had one there. Chicago would also be a good choice and a fun place to visit :)

    47. There were a few sun glasses but it seemed like the vast majority of people got necklaces. Kelly and I are the only people I know of who got sun glasses. I think I met one person who got regular glasses but I can't remember who it was :sweat

    48. Texas would be great. I do know there will be another NYC Dolpa this Summer. Date not confirmed yet.
I got a beautiful silver cross necklace (How fitting!) for my Reisner at Dolpa NYC 2 last Summer.

He's on his way!!! My Cat boy with the Siamese Faceup!!! Oh God, the waiting was bad enough BEFORE, but now, knowing he will be here on Wednesday???? *Runs around and finally into a wall*

    50. Nytshaed -- Congrats!! :) I'm really looking forward to seeing him! He sounds awesome. Hopefully, I will get a shipping notice soon too. Do you know if anyone else who ordered an FCS from the LA Dolpa got their dolls yet?

    51. I haven't heard anything from Volks yet about my FCS boy.
It would be awesome if he came early, but I'll be happy if he arrives in time for K-Kon. :)

Hmm...maybe they decided to do your boy first Nytshaed, because of the intriguing face-up you requested. ^_^

A Siamese face-up, that sounds way cool!
I can't wait to see how he turns out, hope you'll post lots of pictures. :)

Yep, I bet the people at Volks couldn't wait to see how he was going to turn out too. ;D

    52. No, I haven't. I am on the Volks Waiting room thread, and so far I haven't seen any posts there. I am SO thrilled because the anticipated "birthday" they put down for him was March 8th. God, I am so not going to be able to sleep tonight, and I will tell my UPS guy today he's to come to me FIRST THING tomorrow!! I have his Cell phone # so I will pester him if he doesn't!!

Well, if I am one of the first, I am hoping everyone hears soon. The last FCS I ordered, Daeron, I got his shipping notice a WEEK after he'd arrived, so they are getting better at this. I even have a tracking # so I can stalk the UPS site all day and night!!

Maybe they did want to see how the Neko boy would turn out, I know the FCS staff and the manager they asked if they COULD do this sort of face up were VERY intrigued and excited by the idea/concept!!

    53. There are two others who have gotten their shipping notice (check the FCS Waiting Room)! I'm going to be stalking my email now.

But I'm pretty sure its going to be a longer wait than usual because my boyfriend and I both did an FCS and we requested that they be shipped together (wouldn't want to separate twins :D )

I hope more people hear from Volks soon! I can't wait to see everyone's pictures :)

    54. Yay!! :D Congratulations!! :dance He's so cute!! :chibi

    55. OMG Nytshaed, so super cute!! squeee!!

    56. Nytshaed, that face-up came out so well. I'm glad that you finally got him. :D

    57. Wow you must be soo happy! Its great you finally got him!
