Los Angeles Dolpa Thread (Nov. 24 & 25th)

May 2, 2007

    1. Thanksgiving Weekend, ladies and gentlemen. O_o Not the best timing, but hey, we'll deal. :D

      LA Dolpa Information Page

I've heard rumblings here and there about this supposedly happening later this year, and I think Volks puts it in their prints ads as well. (I don't have a FDM or a Haute Doll in front of me at the moment.)

The New York Dolpa sounds like fun, but I didn't have the money to go, so I'm hoping here. :D

I suppose my question is, has there been any concrete information? It sounds like fun, but I often need months to clear time for any major event or trip, so I'm curious. :)

      Thanks!

      ~Anrui

      Edit: Decided to re-title. :)

    2. All I've heard is that it was going to be in "the Fall" of this year but speculation about when has been anything from August to November.*_* I'm hoping they'll make some more annoucements about it either at or right after the New York Dolpa.

It's difficult for me to arrange time off from work, I've told them I'll be going to this convention but I'd like to at least know which month I'm gunning for.

    3. Still on pins and needles waiting for a concrete date here as well. Having a family, I need to plan far in advance to be able to go. I've heard that they liked the Halloween event they did last year so much that they were shooting for October/early November.

    4. Yup. According to HauteDoll, Mr. Shigeta announced there will be a Dolpa in LA in either October or november of this year. That's all the concrete info so far. I have half the $$ I need to go already. As soon as I heard about it, I started saving. I guess we'll find out eventually when exactly it wil be.

    5. As long as it doesn't conflict with Y-con, I'll be going. Question...they don't have the silly rule about only Volks dolls at the dolpa like the store, do they?

      -Anneke

    6. If it's a Volks event as Dolpas are, I believe that would be polite to remember which I think is understandable as there are not any other companies involved in Dolpas ^^;

    7. Man I can't wait for an LA dolpa :XD:

I'm in Idaho so NY is way too far away for me... LA is way more do-able (not to mention many friends/relatives to crash with in SoCal XD). I think when I get a job this summer, I'm gonna set aside a good chunk of each paycheck in prep for the dolpa >w<~~~~~~~~~ <3.

    8. When I was in Volks USA last weekend, someone asked a question about when the L.A. Dolpa was going to be. The reply was October/November just as everyone else has said. Barb. (in L.A.)

    9. My suspicion is that we will get an announcement at the NY Dolpa. Now, this might not be the case, but I think it would be a really good place to announce it!

    10. I hope they announce it soon too! a lot of people have to make plans far in advance to be able to go.

    11. I won't have a Volks by then, unless I can get the money together so my friend can order her the instant she moves to Japan. ^^;;; Well, I'll just have to see how it goes. :D

      I will wait patiently...kinda...for news. :D

      ~Anrui

    12. You don't need to own a Volks per say, right? As long as you have the VolksUSA member card, you should be able get into Dolpa right?

    13. The card should be it, as it is at their other US events (as far as I know,) but I couldn't bring any of my crew unless I get Asalahan in time. :sweat I admit to bringing Mikel into the store, but I think doing the same at a Dolpa would be pushing it. :sweat

      ~Anrui

    14. It's a celebration of specifically Volks manufactured dolls. I'd feel uncomfortable bringing any other dolls I own by other manufacturers.

I am planning on bringing my Yo-SD along in costume...assuming it's closer to Halloween, of course!

    15. bumping

just wondering if anything was mentioned at the NY dolpa about a date for the LA one.

    16. I don't recall hearing anything mentioned about the LA Dolpa, sorry.

    17. bummer, hopefully they say something soon so i can see if i can make it and save some money for it

    18. How many months notice was given for the NY event? If Volks plans on holding the LA Dolpa in October or November they must be getting ready to make an announcement, right?

Please say it's not at the same time as my baby sister's wedding.:eusa_pray

    19. I hope there's an announcement very soon too xD" I'm basing my entire summer work on it as the majority of money I make this summer will be going towards the dolpa and "security" cash in the case of an irresistible limited :D. I need to know how much I can spend now and how long I have to save for the dolpa x3...

    20. Well, the NY one was announced six months in advance, so we are under that now for a November, or October Dolpa. I am guessing they will announce it soon now that the NYC one is in the books.

I am holding off making my usual October vacation plans until I know when the Dolpa is so I can plot to make one, or possibly all three of my events. :ablah:

    21. In the Aug 2007 issue of Haute Doll the Big news is a November date for the LA Dolpa

I know other people have the issue so I am suprised none posted it sooner

    22. :aeyepop:

Really!? Can somebody puh-lease find that date and post it here?
November is much, much better for me than October.

    23. i just looked in the magazine and all it says is november 2007

    24. I'm signing on to keep track of this too! ^_^
I'm going if I have to hitch-hike!! LOL

How much does it cost to attend? I mean the basic entry or registration fee... not the thousands of dollars one might be tempted to spend once inside! ^_~

      Raven

    25. Man, the NY Dolpa was so much fun I'd really like to try and go to the one in LA. XD Only if I have lots of cash to blow, though -- it'd be awesome to win a one-off! :D

    26. I hope for info soon too. Since I wasn't able to make the NY Dolpa, I'd love to hit an LA Dolpa! x3 Didn't Mr. Shigeta also mention this LA Dolpa was supposed to be super-huge, and he wanted to bring over Japanese guests and vendors for it? =O

    27. Maybe Dolpa LA would run during the Day of the Dead. That'll be awesome. I'll be bummed if it was during Veteran's Day weekend. That's when PMX is.

    28. November ;-;? PUH-LEEEZE let it be near Thanksgiving break :D ... if anything I hope it's not later... or it'll be too close to college finals :...(

      *STARTS SAVING EVERY PENNY*
*.... as soon as suiseiseki is paid off and the unoa preorder is over* XDDD

    29. Call me crazy, but I'm thinking I just might attend this one:fangirl: It will be super crazy, and very unlike me to fly across the country since I've never been out of the tri-state Area let alond LA*_* But OMG I want to go..... And I shall go:lol:
      ~Anthony

    30. Mid to late November would be much better for me too; otherwise I'm gonna be stuck driving 8 hours (or is it only six?) by myself, since my mother wouldn't be able to go in October or early November. And I hate driving in California. >.<

Plus, I'm gonna need to save up for goodies too!

    31. Yes, you should definitely go! :aheartbea I'd love to meet you again, and I know you'd have so much fun in LA! (I used to live there and it's such a lovely place~) x3

    32. Im not exactly sure how accurate this is, but I thought that the LA Dolpa would definitely be a mini-convention type since there should be 100+ Japanese dealers/owners attending as well. And is it planned to take place at a hotel? I live in Los Angeles, so Im eagerly awaiting this event. It was definitely fun to visit New York for the first time, but I miss going straight home and relaxing after a fun-filled day.

The Beautiful Doll: I know how you feel. Flying to New York City was my first time to travel anywhere by myself. Ive never been outside of Southern California all of my life, except to visit my relatives and my birthplace for two weeks once. Its scary and nerve-wracking, but so much worth it! This dolpa was definitely an adventure to me, and Im looking forward for the LA Dolpa to top it.

    33. @The Beautiful Doll: It's be awesome to see you at the LA Dolpa. Travelling to new places is so much fun especially when there's an incentive. XD

I don't mind if the event occured around Thanksgiving. Turkey costumes for the dollies~ =P

    34. I've always wanted to go to LA.... And Lord knows with Dolpa that's all the convinceing I need:sweat It's offical, Anthony's Goin to LA:fangirl: Gotta start savin up fast Now:sweat

Same here. I've only been back to the Dominican Republic once for only 2 weeks, and that's it. Well, I did go to FL this past Spring Break, so that has to count for something:sweat But NEVER across the country, and I've always wanted to go to LA, what better reason to go then a Dolpa? and the Tickets are not too expensive now. How much are they usually when it comes to cross country?:sweat.... It's a shame I didn't get to meet you at the NYC Dolpa. I would have loved to have met you and your gorgeous Williams:aheartbea

YUP YUP.... I'm commin People so LA Get ready:lol:
      ~Anthony

    35. one of the nicest things about the Dolpas are you may have a chance to get a Volks doll if you don't have one.. at the NY Dolpa, one mom and daughter did 2 FCS orders, then got lucky with a One off win and then a Sei tenshi.. what a day they had!

and Anthony-- in LA you will fit right in and may never want to come back to NJ/NY

    36. I've never been to a Volks event, but would really like to attend this one. How is it that you get in?

    37. The only requirement is Volks membership: make an order from the Volks USA store (even just elastic or clothes), and you're in. :D

    38. Yep! It's that easy. :D

    39. That's what I'm afraid of... I'll go over there and then it will be bye bye NJ/NY:sweat Will you be making it to this one as well my Dear?
      ~Anthony

    40. >.< No! Don't steal Anthony from us! XD

    41. After hearing so many wonderful things about the NY dolpa I really really want to go to this one! even though I'm quite phobic about traveling, I've hardly been anywhere - but for Dolpa I think i could get over it ;-) (maybe) It would even be in the same timezone as home, so no jet lag.

*seconds Raven's question about registration cost*

    42. November is good! Time to start saving money so I can have my friend order my FCS doll at Sato in August so I can get her in time. :)

It will be fun meeting all of you there! :D

      ~Anrui

    43. wouldn't miss it for anything!!! I am hoping to shop like a maniac

and of course bring a ton of dolls too

    44. Ooooh!

I went to Dollectable which was alot of fun, and LA is sorrrttttaaaa far away.

      Like about 6-8hour drive.

But I dunno. I'd probably go.

    45. Man, I wish I was only 6-8 hours away from LA xD;. I'll probably have to scrape up the money to pay for a plane ticket since I won't quite be on Christmas break yet and I don't want to spend nearly 4 days round trip driving. Least I got family in the area though so I don't have to get a hotel :)...

      But... QUESTION!
At the FCS at dolpas, can you choose any headmold... like... sato-only heads too? Or only sumika heads T_T?

    46. I think it's only Sumika... Oh, how I wish they had Sato heads to choose from.

    47. I know at the Sumika in LA, they didn't have the Sato heads, but after the NY Dolpa, they added two of the new heads to the FCS roster. I want to say F-33 and F-34, but I could be wrong. Last October they also offered the Sunlight skin tone for a month. It will be interesting to see if they close the store and have the FCS at the Dolpa instead, or leave the store open, and NOT have it at the Dolpa. I am guessing they go with the first idea.

    48. November, hmm? Well its good to have a general date at least! I've been wanting to go since I heard the announcement at the Halloween Party, I'm definitely planning to go. :D Even though its a 7 hour car trip . . . its an easy drive, at least!

I'm getting my FCS girl ordered this month, but I've had my eye on a certain FCS mini . . . I wonder if they will offer Sato options at the LA DP like they did at the NY one? I'd love a doll in BW, and I don't think I could resist some of those Sato molds . . .

Oh yes, and I am also looking forward to shopping like a maniac.

    49. I thought they only announced that the SD F-17 will be added to the LA Sumika roster. =/

    50. I'll be going for sure! I'm not super concerned about the date since LA is only about 8 hours from here and if flights get really expensive we could drive. I was crazy enough to fly across the country for the NYC Dolpa so I'm for sure crazy enough to go to an LA Dolpa for the third time again :sweat

November is better for me then October since I think I'll be going to Australia in September and will need sometime to recover from that.

    51. Thats the same exact justification I had for flying to NY! :) I flew to New York to have fun with friends and go sightseeing, in addition to the NY Dolpa. And it was worth it! I only wish that I could have stayed longer in NY, since I didnt get to see the Statue of Liberty, Brookyln Bridge, etc.

When I initially bought my tickets, the total for a roundtrip from LA to NY to Illinois [to visit friends] to LA again was $423 TOTAL. It came to $176 more since I had to change my flight once we found out the actual dinner was going to end much later.

Also, you seem to have had so much fun at the Dolpa! I never noticed who you were until AreeElf pointed out that you were The Beautiful Doll. I actually thought that you were her husband when you said goodbye to her on Saturday. She corrected me and seemed surprised that I didnt know who you were. It seems like youre a celebrity during these East Coast Volks parties.

Ive only ever been to the west coast parties, so it was incredible to meet so many east coast fans like Chii of Hearts, Nakitama, Cammy, etc. If you come to the LA Dolpa, then Ill hopefully remember to greet you.

    52. November is my birthday month, so you'll hear no complaints from me about the timing, heh. November 2007 will also host what could be the first of many 29th birthdays for me, too! There'll have to be some pretty extreme circumstances in play for me to miss this one. Like being dead broke.

    53. That's the one. Like I said, I wasn't positive on what head/heads they had added.

    54. The only thing that would stop me from going is if I didn't get an invitation. But if it's going to be as big as we were lead to believe at the last LA party then it seems like everyone would get invited.

    55. I'm kicking myself for not trying to go to the NY party. So,I'm going to try to make this one. Hopefully, Volks will release info soon.

    56. I live near Sacramento, in that past there have been some carpools down to the LA Dolpas. Once there is more info I might try to organize one as it saves on gas. Though if I don't have lots of time I'd probably fly down.

    57. Eeeekkkk! A DOA carpool???? That would be insane. Hahahaha.

But WHY ON EARTH would you was money on a plane ticket, when you could spend that money on doll clothing/accessories at Dolpa?

Haha. But if a Sacramento/Davis/whatever area carpool wants to seriously do it, I hella would. I could throw down on gas.

    58. I don't know about me being a celebrity or being married to AreeElf (though she's an absolute sweetheart) if I was I'd have a lot of explaining to do to my Boyfriend:sweat But yes, We have got to hang out:).... Wow, that's not half bad for a trip across the country.... I hope Volks announces the date soon so I can purchase my ticket and start making arrangments of where I'll be staying and stuff... We don't even know where it's taking place yet though since they no longer have the mansion right?*_*.... Ohhh Yes, I have been out of the country to Europe as well, so I guess I've traveled a little, but still not across the country:sweat
      ~Anthony

    59. The Beautiful Doll: you are a celebrity on the board and in NY. I heard about you from StellaMaris at one of the NY meetups and from ria_ria who speaks fondly of you..

Daniel Falls: Actually Saturday was the first time I met Anthonyl. We were in photo class together. Good thing my husband isn't on this board or I too would have lot of explaining to do :sweat I've been married to him for 11 years and he was babysitting. Anthony just has that bubbly welcoming personality
