Los Angeles Dolpa Thread (Nov. 24 & 25th)

May 2, 2007

    1. AND it was so cool...the box played the them song when you opened it to look at Thing...Ailene was at our table...we mobbed her when she came back with the Tenshi.

    2. Here ie the volks usa info my suggestion is call them and ask if they have f-13 or f-14

    3. Daniel Falls confirmed that they do now offer F-13 and F-14. :) :

    4. I got KIPs and the MSD Suwarikko body on the MSD F-18 I ordered so I can confirm thats true :) They had examples of the welcoming outfits at the LA Dolpa as well. I didn't get one for my F-18, kind of regret it now since it was so cute! :D

    5. I'm so glad the MSD suwarikko body is now available! :D All this time I had thought it already was! :sweat

    6. I'm happy for you, Cammy. Even when I first met you in New York, I think you told us about how you dreamed of F-13 or F-14 and maybe a MSD F-18?

Well, I'm sure California and the Los Angeles Sumika are both anticipating your arrival when you come to do your FCS. I just hope that there will be enough welcoming outfits until then. I always assumed that these outfits were limited based upon stock in Japan. Can anyone confirm?

    7. I wish you much success with your FCS adventures, you are so energetic about it, it's infectious. ;) Are you going soon? :)

Now that I have Gael, I want to get a Volks MSD for his brother Yann, but the only one that I really like for him is Hewitt. Maybe I'll get that FCS head that looks close to him, as Hewitt on the 2nd hand market is a bit pricy. :D

I really wish they offered a boy-type MSD suwarikko body, if only for the nice sitting pose. It probably wouldn't work to part together a boy with suwarikko parts. :sweat

      ~Anrui

    8. Anrui: I think you'd have to mod the leg sockets of the boy body? With sanding and smooting the sockets, I think it's possible, But then it may not be a perfect fit.

    9. Probably. XD I have a guide in one of my magazines on how to do it, but I don't know whether I would go through with it. I'd probably just deal. :sweat

      Thanks for the suggestion! :D

      ~Anrui

PS: Are you coming to the Elfdoll event on the 8th?

    10. Anrui: I most likely will. I will come early this time, since the event ended halfway during its official schedule. I'll most likely bring my Kun boy.

    11. Aimee has added her Makeup Workshop report (she was in Valico's class) to my report (Saifa's 5:30 class), and the thread has been Stickied in the Workshop/customization part of DoA.

If anyone who took any Makeup class would like to add their own notes there, that would be fantastic!!! Aimee's class had lots of different information than mine, so it was almost like taking another class for me! And I know others would be interested in hearing more experiences, too!

    12. Seriously. It's not quite as wrong as Slayer's cover of "Inna Gadda da Vida", but as mashups go, that is a head-spinner.

"Celebrate My Love For You", as a song of ceremonial devotion, would've been fine if they had gotten a translation of the middle parts first. I mean after Peabo & Roberta sing the celebrating part, it waxes a little more explicit about, umm, about how the celebrating is done. -_-

Anything beats a 3-hour loop of "Ave Maria". William Shatner's album beats a 3-hour loop of "Ave Maria". Root-canals, income-taxes, and bra-shopping beat a 3-hour loop of "Ave Maria".

W00t! Awesomeness, April, & thanks for all those fantastically step-by-step photos.

:dance Yayy, that's right, I at least held still long enough to meet ONE person! I did! The water-station is a great way to meet a captive audience, because they have to stop & rehydrate before rushing off again. I hope I will have more chatting-time next time I see you.

    13. Thank you, Daniel. :daisy I'm so glad you could confirm what I have been wishing for a long time! :D I was so happy and giddy at the NY Dolpa, so I might have babbled about wanting an F-14 girl. :blush I'm so glad that another one of my Super Dollfie dreams has come true! :chibi

Awww, you are so sweet! :blush Yes, I'm always energetic when it comes to Super Dollfie and Volks! :thumbup I'm afraid I'm a bit poor after buying Virginie (my Sweet Dream Nono a.k.a. my dream doll), so I'm going to have to save up again before I get my next girl. :) I've been very blessed, so I'm not in a great hurry. :daisy

What I want is a white-skinned F-14 SD girl with medium-blue eyes and long, cream-colored hair. I'd name her Olivia (which might get confusing since people will think I mean SD16 Olivia!), and I'd have a pretty, creamy yellow dress with white lace just for her. :aheartbea

    14. I agree with you completely, unless it is Andrea Bocelli. I could listen to that man sing scales for 3 hours straight, let alone Ave Maria. :blush (Total Andrea nerd, don't ask. )

Volks definately has some...interesting music on their playlist. :sweat

    15. Just wanted to recommend..

My Sei has a kips disk under her head (like the Yo's do) and it tends to get sucked into her head so her head gets bobbly. Have you checked to make sure the disk is sitting properly inbetween her head & neck?

    16. *aggrees* :D :aheartbea

    17. Yeah, I noticed the other day about that. I've been pulling the disk out occasionally. :)

I think I was refering more to the size of his head in comparison to his body (and the fact anytime his head moved, he'd shuck his wig off. Luckilly, his new one came today, and it fits much better. :) )

      Thanks for the help! :D

      ~Anrui

    18. When somebody invents a way to keep KIPS sheets from being sucked up into sockets, do let me know? I don't think science is there yet. ;; It happens constantly with the big sheets too, especially in the heads & shoulders of the big boys. Picking KIPS-Wedgies is already a habit. Soon you will learn to do it with one hand.

OK, right! There are always exceptions. Somebody forgot to tell Volks that if they DID play a li'l Boccelli, they'd utterly clean up at the sales-booths, because women spend twice as much money when they're under the spell of dreamy Italian tenors. A dazed woman is a woman with a loose grip on her wallet. ^^ True story. Ask any marketroid.

Personally, I could listen to Mark Lanegan read the phone-book at me for 3 hours, but I doubt that we'll hear any Screaming Trees playlists at any upcoming Dolpas. *mental image=XDD*

    19. I don't suppose it would work to put a bit of glue on the "wrong" side of the kips disk? Hmm. :|

If they played Andrea for any length of time at a Dolpa, I'd be taking out mortgages on houses I don't own to buy stuff. :XD:

As for the Screaming Trees, you are probably right.

    20. Thanks!!!

I wish my camera and my photo skills were better... most of the photos were very blurry and I couldn't get any good close-ups! *_*

I was mostly taking the photos to aid my poor memory... same with the quick notes I was trying to jot down at the same time... But until people will better memories and notes make a report, I guess it's all there is for those who didn't get to go to the workshop (aside from Aimee's fantastically detailed report, of course!).

    21. The LA Dolpa site was..sort of updated! :) There is a banner that replaced Garnet's photo that shows a nice group shot of all of the Volks employees, as well as an owner's Ruby on one side and some other dolls on the other.

Apparently the after-report will post in a few days.

    22. Hi,

I just checked receipts for LA Dolpa limited items and noticed.
Next items' price was $64 at Volks web site but at the event, the price was $67 (+ CA tax).

      CHIBI-046 Formal Dress Set (Boy)
      http://site.volksusa.com/html/2007/dolls_party_la_2007/market/chibi046.html
      CHIBI-047 Formal Dress Set (Girl)
      http://site.volksusa.com/html/2007/dolls_party_la_2007/market/chibi047.html

I want to ask you who got these dresses...how will you do? I'm afraid when I tell it to Volks they may answer "Oh, it's only typo. The price was $67."...

All Japanese paid 8.25% tax. The tax refund option was abolished before. Maybe it is difficult for Volks to refund the difference.

Thank you very much for your advice!

    23. All vendors selling inside CA are required to charge sales tax. Even vendors at Comic Book and Toy Conventions. They check to see if you have seller's permits now. The only exception is for Web Only businesses, like my doll shop was. Because Volks has a retail, physical store in CA, they are required to charge sales tax. I paid sales tax on the clothes and supplies I bought, and my FCS, both at the store, and at the Dolpa. Hope this helps.

    24. Oh, thank you very much for your post!
No, what I say is all of other itmes' prices were same with web but only Chibi dress was not same. Tax problem is acceptable because this is a current system. Simply I thought Volks received $67 + tax and it would be difficult to calculate and refund the difference to us...

    25. If the actual price for the outfits is $64.00 [+tax] and you were charged $67.00[+tax], then Volks should refund you the difference somehow. Of course, it is very easy for them to state that the online listed price is a typo, and that the Dolpa price [$67 +tax] was the actual cost.

This relates to the mistake that VolksUSA made with previous FCS orders. When Volks USA realized that they were not supposed to charge sales tax to FCS Dolls that were shipped out of the California state, then they refunded those people for the unjustified sales tax they paid. Some of these people received refunds from FCS dolls that they made years earlier. I don't see why they wouldn't correct their mistake in this case as well.

I recommend emailing Volks USA about this problem.

    26. Thank you very much for your advice, Daniel Falls!!
I send an e-mail to them.

    27. You're welcome, Ria Ria.

I hope that they do refund you back. Since they advertised the outfits as $64.00 before the Dolpa, then they must refund you. It is false advertising if they charged you more than the advertised price.

    28. Yes ria_ria, they over charged you.

I was in the Japanese staff line and they showed me every item price with a calcualtor, then added the sales tax with the calculator and showed me again asking "is this ok".
They charged me $64.00 + tax for the Chibi boy outfit. I remember because he had to ask Shino-chan the cost to make sure it was correct.

Also I purchased a wrong size item (a japanese dealer dress) which was not marked a size, I returned it and got a refund via Volks Online system, they charged everything back including the sales tax.

They were very helpful, so I am sure they can do the same for you. ;)

It is not an online price error because I was charged $64.00 + tax for the Chibi outfit.

      *Jen

    29. :o OMG, Jen, this info really helps me! Thank you very much!!

BTW, I sent you an e-mail with photos at LA Dolpa. Please check your e-mail box ;) *Hugs*

    30. Hopefully you won't have a problem. :) They accidently charged me $46 for a $4 pack of Yo-elastic. :sweat

Luckily, I noticed within a few hours, so they fixed it there. :) They were very nice about it. :)

      Good luck!

      ~Anrui

    31. Thank you very much all :D I sent an e-mail with receipt (scan).

    32. Thank you ria ria for pointing this out. I was charged $67 for the outfits also, so I going to contact them also to fix the charge.

    33. Oh, dear, you too?
I wish yours will be fixed soon, too.

I sent an e-mail to Volks USA and got their response quickly.
The difference will be refunded in Credit Card account. Thank you very much for all of your advice :love

    34. Does anyone know if they will do an after event like the other Dolpas????

    35. Last time, we were informed that they were considering it, but it is uncertain if they will or not.

    36. Thank you Midori, I will keep my eyes and ears open just in case.

    37. i wonder if they'll combine the LA Dolpa items with the Dolpa 18 items into one AE, since there were a few things that they offered at both. hmm. =o_O=

    38. Some things at the LA Dolpa have showed up on Dolpa 18's page, so maybe.

    39. I feel I was also overcharged at the Dolpa for the KIPs at the dolly doctor. The sign made it seem like it was $11 to put KIPs in each arm joint, not $11 per KIP. Still I was charged $11 per KIP. I was also at the NYC Dolpa and the price listed there was to put the KIP in every joint. $11 per KIP is very expensive as to buy a whole pack of like 8 KIPs is $10.

I'm curious if anyone else got KIPs and how they were charged...

    40. I got Daeron KIPs'd while I was doing my FCS, and yeah, it was $11 PER Joint, and not per Pair like I thought. I was happy for the restringing, adjustments etc he got by the doctor, so I just didn't worry about it. I got my new SD13 KIPs'd for free in the Body Class, and the doctor had to help me with that one, so I got my monies worth. ;)

    41. Yes.. I was glad I got more KIPs in the class and I got some help from the dolly doctor as well so overall I do think it worked out fine. $11 per KIP is a bit high though and the sign was sort of confusing so I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me who was charged per KIP.

But ah the addictiveness of KIPS.. all but one of my BJDs now has them ;)

    42. I think buying the KIPS separately and doing it yourself would be cheaper. Like at the Volks Booth, they had like a pack of 10 discs at a lower price than the insertion service. Guess you just paying for the labor of the SD Doctors. =/

    43. What they charge for the package of KIPS sheets is also expensive, but what they charge for each sheet at the Doctor's is just nasty. It's odd, because some other doctor services cost so much less. The restringing/new elastics are reasonably priced... and they also fixed my Isao's bad knee (which took quite a lot of surgery) for no charge at all. I was about to buy more KIPSs, when she pointed out that $11 was per joint, not per doll. So I backed out of that. But then he went ahead & replaced two of Karsten's old KIPS sheets, anyway, also for free. I guess the list of doctor-services isn't really set in stone. (And so far, the Doctors have done right by my boys. :))

    44. Curious when they kip'd at the SD Doctor did they do anything more than just insert the kip at the joint. I was wondering if they trimmed it or something for that price.

If it is just inserting maybe it's one of those costs more to discourage people from asking for simple services?

    45. Yeah, was surprised to hear that they charged people for the kips this time at the dolly doctor - I remember getting mine inserted and for free too at a prior US dolpa!?! And I've gotten my boys tweaked at just about every one except the last one - Alex

    46. while i was hanging around the KIPS area, i noticed that depending on the size of the doll, or should i say doll joints, that they trim the little disk to fit it when necessary.....

but, yes, if you have the skills to trim them and install/restring your resin loved ones, the price is quite steep.. :|

but then again, they have to make a living.. as for some of them, they live, breathe and work with and for dolls.
not that it's a bad thing. :sweat

    47. :D Yay! Too bad they didn't put up all the pictures of us winners looking O_O at the President.

Again, it was a wonderful event, and congratulations to everybody who won! :D

      ~Anrui

    48. I wished they did too. I want to see my boyfriend's cheesy smile with Mr. Shigeta and the MSD Sakura box. Lol!

    49. ROFL, Amyhead logged on to tell me I was featured in one of the pictures with Mister Shigeta (along with the silly little doodled I made him...)

My incredibly obnoxious orange hat made a cameo in one of the class pictures, too.

    50. I must admit..NO one needed to see my smudgy-faced self after they announced Chiara.

      Silly girly wibbly-eyes. :P

    51. Awww, that report was so sweet!!!

Everyone at Volks must have worked so hard to put on the Dolpa... I'm glad they felt it was worthwhile.

I know I was very happy to be able to participate. :D

    52. Ah ha ha! I'm so glad we don't look as crazed and exhausted in the vendor picture of us as we felt.
And that story about the girl asking about the One-off (Mark) that didn't sell was me! :doh I still want him! :...( I'm so pathetic. >__>

    53. :doh Oh Dear God.... I KNEW they took a pic of me in my green pjs signing up for the FCS. What I didn't know was they took a profile shot of my fat ass during ordering.... :barf That is SO not the flattering shot... I'm not eating until Spring....

    54. I did not know that Tsukasa one-off did not receive any name?? If I know, I'd have offer to buy him too. I am soooooo sooooo dumb.:doh :doh :doh :doh

    55. It wasn't the Tsukasa that didn't get votes. It was the Mark. I think he was #3.

The Tsukasa and the Williams were both won at our table...by my friend's significant other and by my fiance'. *LOL* We can safely say, I think, that the boys were won by the boys :D

    56. Then I was completely wrong. I thought there were only two boys one-off. Old age does catch up to you :sweat :sweat

It is so hard to choose since everyone is allowed only one entry.
