Los Angeles Dolpa Thread (Nov. 24 & 25th)

May 2, 2007

    1. I also was searching for you, dear! And I couldn't :doh :...(
I was searching for Snowleopard, too. I saw you were called from Volks and saw your face, but when I tried to talk to you, I couldn't find you ToT
I wish I can have the next chance. If you have LJ, please PM me and tell me your LJ's IDs. Thank you :aheartbea

    2. Aww, I don't have a LJ. (I think I am one of the last 3 people in the world not to.)

But when I get my B-boy repainted properly, I will post pictures of him here on DOA, and drop you a note to come see him. :)

    3. Oh, please do it :D
I was one with black top & black jeans at Dolpa Market (or with black dress at Dinner Party)...

    4. Did you also have short-cropped hair? Alex

    5. She had a nice short hairdo that was layered and she had bangs and I think it swept to the side, she looked very young, in fact I was shocked to find out she had 2 kids

I thought she was wearing a gray sweater with jeans but that may have been the first day.

I had such a blast at this show, it was my first Dolpa but like I said, I really wanted to meet more people :( next time for sure! I am so glad that ria_ria came all the way from Japan! that was most definitely one of the highlights for me!

    6. Yes. Have you seen me?

SDink, you are very beautiful and look so young :fangirl: Meeting and talking with you, having lunch together were the highlights for me, too :aheartbea (I wish this English was not too wrong >.<; )

    7. Meeting her was also the highlight for me too. :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea

I'm still sad that I didn't get to meet you though! *_* *_*

    8. *Is dying to know whether or not SD F-14 or SD F-13 will now be available in LA FCS* Someone must know! :atremblin Please tell me before I burst with suspence! :shudder

    9. Hello Anrui Ukimi! You were the BEST dinner buddy a gal can have as well...that was sooo much fun! Congratulations on your wins, you so deserved them.

The class went really well indeed and I walked away with so many ideas for possible future faces. I learned so many very helpful techniques that I can practice. Those lessons were definitely invaluable! I'm actually humbled to have had a class with so much talent around me.

We were definitely beyond tired by the time we got home and we were dreading the long drive home but the traffic wasn't really all that bad until the last twenty miles!

I'm so glad you have those little pics of your dolls by your sig so I can recognize you right away! Nice!

    10. :blush Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!

Did you get any pictures of your faceup attempts? :)

...I hope you didn't have to work Monday with that commute and all. *_*

:D Yeah, I'm already needing to change the sig picture, but I'll wait a few more weeks until the other two are in.

You should add a picture of your clan to your sig! :)

      ~Anrui

    11. Hello! I didn't take any pics of the face just yet (I'll wait until it's completed later on sometime) but I found that what I really like painting are the lips and also the shading and blushing part. The eyebrows are a whole other matter and I can use some practice with painting those up but I feel with time, I may be able to improve somewhat. It's all practice, practice, paractice! I know this great calligraphist who would find herself right in her element with painting these faces but she's not into dolls:(

I immediately recognized your red haired guy right away and then to his left your other fabulous green eyed boy. I'll definitely put up some pics of my group sometime this weekend...I have so many pictures, I'll need some time to choose which ones!:)

    12. I think you were in the limited line just ahead of me with another woman friend(who was very tiny too?)?
Anyway, ask her if she was the collector who took a picture of her Yo next to the cup of soda!!! Someone had a soda with their breakfast and she came up to us and told us she couldnt believe how large it was and told us that the drinks don't come so big in Japan! We Americans were surprised at her reaction, especially since the drink was 32 oz and only considered a 'large' in the US - they come in as big as 60 oz cups (I saw one for sale at a gas station on the way back to san francisco, so I know its true). Her remark when she finished her photograph was 'unbelievable'!!!! We had a good laugh at that.....Alex

    13. I shall go down in history as "She Who Drinks FAR Too Much Soda" to a Japanese lady. :D

Too bad I missed the whole exchange, considering it was my soda. (And it was a 44oz. ;) )

For the next Dolpa, I'll have to get one of those KFC soda buckets for the line.

      ~Anrui

    14. BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahaha!!!!
On the trip home, we all went by this food mart attached to a gas station and they had a sign showing a MEAL DEAL for $1.99 - the 'meal' was a 60 oz cup of soda and a bag of chips!!!!
Hey, have to admit, I've done 44 ozs too, at Carls Jr at their all you can drink soda bar at lunchtime and have gone back for refills. Thats why the size of your soda seemed....so normal to me...and her reaction so funny! Alex

    15. :sweat um, i'm sorry, i did a quick check (unless if someone else can debunk my findings).. no, LA Sumika FCS doesn't have them. :sorry

    16. It was nice to meet you ria_ria! I didn't even realize that you were right there in front of me all along! :sweat I don't know if you remember but I was behind you with my boyfriend and my Yo-SD Ayumu when we waited in line for the limited items. Maybe next year I will be able to meet you when they have Dolpa again!

    17. I'm back home *wobble* ^^; I won a sei-tenshi with purple wings and hair ^__^

Nytshaed - I sat next to you at the maintenance class ^^

    18. [IMG]

Nancy, your sei is like THE CUTEST!!

yeah... there were so many people there, I wish I'd talked to even more people! apparently some people I talked to I knew and I didnt even know I knew! haha! I fail! XD

      Nytshaed cute pillow fight! :)!

JennyNemesis, did I see you at all? O_O? I would have liked to have put a name with the face!

I kn ow what you mean about the painting class. I really really really want to take another one now.

waaaah... I love gothy sweet dream nono. she's one of my alltime favorites

    19. Hahaha! I remember that bit in his speech. :D

In other news, was I totally hallucinating when he started talking about uber small Tenshi? I seem to remember some part of his speech talking about Ai-Tenshi, or something like that. Several kinds, too. X_x

      ~Anrui

    20. He mentioned three more kinds of tenshi, and he definitely said "ai-tenshi" were one of them. He also mentioned some kind of "star" tenshi, but I didn't catch the name (stella-tenshi????? doesn't seem right because that's not Japanese). Did anyone else catch the other two types?

    21. Nooooooooo!!! Oh, darn.... :sorry Thanks, dibei-chan! :) I was really hoping they had added F-14 at least. :( Well, I guess I'll just keep waiting! :thumbup

    22. Will the purple Yo dress make it to the US website or the international site?

I've tried to follow this thread but I've missed the answer. Is there going to be an after event or am I S.O.L.?

    23. LOL Aimee's version of Mr. Shegita is too funny.

    24. my original response: :o *thinks: not the tenshi!!1 no tenshi abuse!* *_*

 Aimee reburned that memory into me.
Shegita-San is definitely a character and has got imagination to match. i'm not going to forget his anecdotes anytime soon.

    25. I kn ow! it sounded a b it bondage like to me,... which is so funny. Mr. Shigeta is adorable. ARE YOU HUNGRY?! :)

    26. I think we're S.O.L. because when I heard earlier in this thread that there were extras of things left, I emailed Volks. They emailed back and said:

      "Thank you for your inquiry.

As for the Dolpa LA items, we are sorry to say that
we have no any particular plan for selling the Dolpa LA
      items at the moment.

      Thank you for your understanding.

      Sincerely,

      VOLKS USA Web Service Center
      VOLKS USA, INC."

:( major bummer! So I'm guessing if there really were extras they might only be in the LA store for a short time if at all.

OMG MORE TENSHI?? I wish I could have been there to hear about that! Did he give any indication if these were more free giveaway dolls like Sei and Rei Tenshi, or if they were exclusive for-sale dolls like Yo-Tenshi? Eee! I can't wait until they debut! :fangirl:

    27. @aimee: That image is so hilarious! Time to print that out and put on my magnetic wipeboard. XD

    28. We were cracking up so hard whenever Mr.Shigeta asked that "hungry" question and especially when he was over by the dolls commenting on how he liked the music. That banjo music kept on playing throughout dinner...it was hilarious! I think his daughter said she had no idea that he liked that style of music! It was so cute!

    29. Oh dear. :( Well that makes me sad. I guess that's what I get for working in retail and not being able to take off for the Dolpa. *cries* Thanks for confirming that riversoblood.

    30. Maybe! :sweat I was sitting with Kelly in the bar shortly before we saw you leave... I should have come introduced myself properly! I wore a black velvet jacket & a foofy skirt with a skeleton-arm necklace and stripy tights. And these messed-up pointy boots that look like Jane Jetson Goes Goth. More notably, I was the nimrod who actually said "OMIGOD, THEY'RE SO TINY" within range of the microphone when I went up to claim my Rei-tenshi. -_- If I don't get to meet you again before summer, you'll definitely see me at next Dollectable. We'll make sure to sit at the SAME bar this time.

PS. Your "Mr. Shigeta's Bondage-Angel" cartoon had me snorking coffee out into my keyboard. (Again. My I.T. guy is starting not to believe my excuses anymore.) :fangirl:

It was very surreal indeed-- I spent a long time at the Dolly Doctors while Karsten had his knee-surgery (there were complications ^^), and I wound up sitting back there while the omukaes were happening. While the very solemn texts were being read... and "I Celebrate My Love For You" played... there was a constant merry tinkling of banjo music running underneath it all, like some deranged moonshine creek. I had been up since 5:00 AM, so the combination was almost a bit too much for me. I kept expecting David Lynch to pop out from behind the SD16 displays.

    31. I made another sweep of the Volks dealer area around noonish and there was hardly anything left. The Yo outfits were the first go like right when they opened, so the chances of anything left over or anything even being at the Volks store and practically nil.

    32. That was indeed surreal JennyNemesis...I kept thinking the same thing about David Lynch! Either him or the little guy who always got his groove on over that black and white checkered board floor from Twin Peaks for some reason. Not that he ever danced to banjo music but his scenes were always pretty twisted. Lol's!

    33. Shame Mirë didn't get to meet you on Saturday! She's the one doll that i had to have no matter what the cost LOL...She had a lot of pictures taken and was a bit blinded by them as she's a quiet sort. She enjoyed Dolpa after MVrtgo arrived. Maybe next time!

Love the cartoon - that was hilarious! Lady Diamond's Momoko has one of the little darlings clutched in her hot little hands (that made her day on Saturday when LD won Ainuriël), she says her little angel won't even get a chance to fly away!

    34. Jenny - maaaan! I wish I'd known! I have to try harder next time. I bet I did see you. :)
      YEAY FOR SNORKING!

I love omukae, but my friend singing "I Celebrate My Love For You" across the table to me (under her breath) I was having a very hard time keeping a straight face. :) Also, some of the pop music they played, like Janet Jacksons' "Got a nice package alright Cuz Im gonna have to ride it tonight ". O_O.... I just had to giggle. :) I say this with utmost love for VOLKS, but... :D

Lady - awwww... Mire was there? I would have love to have seen her in person. Maybe next time? She's SO PRETTY.

    35. Love that cartoon! I looked around and tried not to burst out laughing at the comment about tying up 'tenshi! --Tried not to let lovely Mr. Shigeta know about my gutter-mind! :)

      --------------------------------

On another note... In case anyone is interested... I wrote up a report with photos of my experience in the 5:30 Makeup Workshop, in the customization forum...

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179798

    36. Aimee...that "milkshake is better than yours" song also was another one that had me seriously bursting with laughter and it kept repeating throughout the day! Too funny but at least the songs were upbeat!

    37. I saw you! :dance

It was a Dolpa small-talk moment by the water station...heehee...
It was great to meet you Jenny! I had to spend time at the Doll Dr. too so
my sei-tenshi could get her broken wing mended. :ablink:

Hahaa...and aimee that cartoon is great, that was so funny!!!!!!!

    38. Is your poor angel's wing fixed? I remember talking to you, and you showing me the wing. *_*

..."Dueling Banjos" with "Celebrate My Love" made me giggle. Repeatedly.

      ~Anrui

    39. I know that I am really late with this, but I didn't want to miss my chance to say that I had a fabulous time at the Dolpa in LA. And I was thrilled to meet so many new wonderful people and to get reacquainted with people that I had met at the first tea at the mansion or the Austin BJDC. I won't mention names because I'm sure that I would inadvertently forget someone, and I would hate to do that. So thank you to everyone I met -- from those standing/sitting with me in the lines or at meals, in the salesroom, during the 5:30 makeup class, at the FCS, or just hanging around -- spending time with so many great people is what makes an event like this so memorable. :)

And of course, Volks did a fantastic job. I was especially pleased that there were plenty of the limited dolls and outfits to go around, and I think that everyone who wanted to do an FCS was able to do so. And Mikey and Saifa were so incredibly kind and encouraging to everyone in the makeup class.

And Nytshaed, I can't wait to see your kitty boy! I hope that he turns out just the way you had imagined him. (I was the gal sitting next to you during the FCS ordering my F-18 MSD girl!) And I love your photo of your boy in the Village Pine outfit. I got the other VP outfit, and I am really happy now that I did! :)

    40. Hey, I'm just happy it wasn't "Ave Maria" (spelling?") on loop all night, or whatever it was that I know people were mentioning a couple months back :D

    41. Heheh... got to love the music choices!!! I know the milkshake song raised eyebrows. :)

    42. Are you kidding me they played the milkshake song?!? XD

They played bluegrass?? He likes that kind of music?! Wow, me and my dad were just talking about japanese bluegrass lovers! My dad plays banjo, so that makes Mr. Shigeta extra cool in my book :3

    43. ...yeah, they did.

      It was really funny. :)

      ~Anrui

    44. Thank you!!! Mirë says thank you too! She was at the dinner party on Saturday, a few people approached me and said they'd never seen her in person and wanted to take pics of her :) I'll take her again next year for the diner party so that more folks can see her. I'll bring her stand too so she is more visible :)

    45. Oh yes it got fixed perfectly,:thumbup just a little bit of glue and she was as good as new.
Hope yours turned out good (?).

    46. He's still a big bobblehead that has problems standing, but that's alright. :D

I'm glad they were able to fix yours right up! :)

      ~Anrui

    47. All the little Sei and Rei Tenshi are so adorable!!! :D What can be cuter then a tiny baby angel? :chibi Congratulations to everyone who was blessed with such a wonderful gift!! :dance Wish me luck at the next NY Dolpa! :thumbup

    48. Actually...

I just learned by calling the store that Volks USA is now offering the following FCS heads, which were Sato only:

      For SD: F-13, F-14, F-25, F-28

      For MSD: F-6, F-18

Volks USA is also now offering KIPS, the MSD Suwarikko body, the welcomng outfut, and 18/9mm eyes for their Full Choice System.

If anyone is interested, I'm doing a split for parts of the FCS that I want for my existing dolls. My Full Choice Split

Also, did they offer these heads at the LA Dolpa? I thought they didnt, but I was told by a Volks employee that they did offer all of these heads at Dolpa.

    49. :o

Oh, is it true??? :ablink: Oh, Daniel (if I may call you that :) ), thank you so much!!! :D F-13 and F-14 are two of my favorite heads, and I was so sad when I thought they still weren't available. :( Thank you so much!! :dance You've made my day!! :chibi *big hugs!*

    50. Yeah, Cammy. Im surprised that they didnt announce these heads formally like F28. But theyre there nonetheless.

    51. weird post mishap

    52.
    53. ria_ria: It would have been so nice to meet and talk with you. Unfortunately, I don't have an LJ account. I certainly hope we can meet in the future. Maybe we should plan ahead of time and wear big name tags so everyone can read them!:D

    54. JennyNemesis: ...I guess I'm the fourth person in the world who doesn't have an LJ...:doh

    55. MSD 06 is at the LA Sumika now? YES! I've been waiting for this day! It's a good thing I didn't know this at the Dolpa because I would have broken my bank account!

Now to start saving for a white MSD 06 girl. . .

    56. Wow! This was my first DOLPA but hopefully not my last. I had an amazing time and I can't even begin gushing about my table mates, Ladyemrys and Lady Diamond; you guys are the bestest!

I'll always treasure ripping dolls apart and putting them back together, crossing our fingers hoping Mr Shigeta would call your numbers......good times.

To my salesroom line/ lunch buddy, I'm so sorry but your name has escaped my ridiculous brain. All I can recall is, " Mountain View!!!!". I had a wonderful time chatting and getting to know you (with the exception of retaining your name...lol). I hope we can see each other again at another doll event and your dollfies forgive you for trying to make them girly:lol:

I love this girl and I am so glad I broke down and got her.

    57. I'm surprised they didn't have samples of all the new heads displayed. At least it doesn't look like they did from the pictures I've seen. :ablink:

Oh, I'm so happy F-13 and F-14 are available now! :D I've been planning dolls with those heads for a long time! :chibi Thank you, Volks!! :aheartbea

    58. Oh, Mvrtgo, she's gorgeous!!! :D Congratulations on your beautiful new girl!! :dance

    59. Have you put her in the SD16 girl database yet?
      She's so pretty!

    60. I'm not sure if anyone answered this yet, but that was a friend of mine from San Diego, Aileen, that did that and won best Artistian I believe.
