Loongsoul 1/3 doll discussion Part 4

Jun 30, 2019

    1. I still think Loongsoul has the best bodies. So poseable. Such quality. And their jointed hands have the thumb joint that I really look for. Do you think they'll come out with any more fantasy sculpts with horns? Their old fantasy sculpts were so beautiful. I regret missing my opportunity for them.

    2. @LavenderDemoness I hope they do! Their fantasy sculpts are gorgeous, though I've heard there might be some issues with the body blushing for some dolls.

I don't have their jointed hands yet, but I plan to order some later on.

    3. Bought my first Loongsoul doll eleven jr, hopefully he arrives in 2 months!

    4. Congrats! Did you order him from the company or secondhand?

    5. If you ordered a new doll, I think you should be prepared for a longer wait. My Eleven Jr full set has already been on order for more than two months.

    6. @nancy_schroeder_ca I think more or less six months minimum for fullsets with faceup. Blank dolls might arrive faster though. And then there's my Su Huan Zhen that was ordered in January and won't arrive until next year...

    7. My full set Kylin YinQi with just face makeup but not body blushing took 9 months to arrive after I ordered. So there can definitely be some hefty wait times.

    8. I ordered him through clover singing! Christina said the doll is in stock but with face up it will takr 2 months. Hopefully that's the case.

    9. I only ordered the nude doll with face up, so hopefully less wait time

    10. Since he was in stock the wait shouldn't be long. Christina is probably right!

    11. *Sigh* I thought it over for so long that I completely missed the sale, but I have finally decided that I need to add YouZhi to my crew. (Being circumspect is costly. :sweat) He will be my first LS doll, so my experience with their resin colors is nil...and I'm having a lot of trouble choosing between the imported white and yellow. Does anyone happen to have a photo of them side by side? I can't seem to find a good one on the web...

      • x 1
    12. I do have both but I have managed only one photo in 2019! If no one else posts one, I will try!

PS. I have YouZhi on order. I think I'm a Loongsoul adict but then their initials are LSD.

    13. Thank you very much! I don't want to put you out, though - I was just hoping that someone might already have taken a photo that they could post with a yellow and white together.

Which color did you decide to order him in, btw? I'm leaning toward white, but I've never had anything that wasn't a tiny in anything lighter than 'normal' skin (in fact, most of my big boys are on the somewhat tanned side)...so the idea of that vast expanse of Clorox clean resin has me a little apprehensive...

      That's classic.

    14. I ordered white skin but I have a lot of white skin dolls. If you get white, I recommend the body blushing as it softens the white.

    15. Thanks, I'll take that advice. I was actually wondering about it, because even my tiny white dolls have a pretty stark contrast between their painted faces and blank bodies - far more noticeable than in any other color.

    16. I remember someone here was wishing for another creature doll release for Loongsoul. They won't have long to wait, as Loongsould just released human version QiongQi (one of the "Four Evils" in Chinese mythology), so I expect the beast version release won't be far off. I ordered the human version fullset, because he was styled like an assassin, and I'm a sucker for assassin characters lol.

@nancy_schroeder_ca I feel you on the Loongsoul addict part lol. It doesn't help that their fullsets are all so gorgeous too.

      • x 1
    17. Hehe...I'm also a sucker for the assassin thing - so I'm ordering the YouZhi fullset, plus the Kui Jie outfit in the 73cm size to fit him. I guess he'll be a caring, benevolent doctor by day and and a ridiculously overdressed ninja hitman sort of guy by night. The ultimate (yet stylish) dichotomy. :XD:

      • x 1
    18. @celga sadly I had to pass on the YouZhi fullset, because I already have way too many 73 cm boys from Loongsoul still on order at the moment. The only reason I went ahead for QiongQi was because he's 68 cm, and I only have GouMang for that size.

Also, just my two cents on the skin color question, but I ultimately decided on imported yellow when I saw how bright white the white skin was in real life (as my friend owns a Charmdoll girl in that skin color, and Charmdoll uses the same resin as Loongsoul). Definitely agree with @nancy_schroeder_ca that you'd need blushing on both face and body to soften the effect. The white skin looks like it has a slight pinkish tint on the company photos, but that might just be because of lighting and post-processing

    19. The white skin does have a very slight pink tint.

    20. Ack, just when I thought I'd decided, now I'm back at the beginning again. I wish that I could see the two colors in person! One of the things I wonder about is mellowing - does the white turn yellow, but the yellow turn even yellower? Also, I love the company faceup on the white doll, and worry that they'll decide to alter it in some way to accommodate the yellow skin. LOL, I think that I may have to toss a coin...

    21. @celga I had the same dilemma when I was ordering my first Loongsoul doll haha. I doubt they'd change around the faceup between white and yellow though, since yellow is actually still light enough to pass for white normal in some companies. Note sure if you saw it, but @AntarelNefertili posted pics of her imported yellow Zhuzhao a while back, here:

    22. @fionvarre Yep - saw, admired, and was just as undecided because of the lack of side by side. :XD: Both look really pretty in photos. So...which did you settle on...and most importantly, were you happy with the results?

    23. @celga I went with normal yellow, and I'm very much happy with it. My friend who got her Charmdoll Anna in white (since she didn't look quite that white in company photos) did regret her choice a bit though, if only because white is a bit harder to photograph unless you know what you're doing in terms of lighting and camera settings.

      • x 1
    24. Thank you very much for the input! Hmm, then maybe I should flop back in the other direction and go with yellow, especially because I'm used to darker resin. I know it's still super pale, but it might be a better stepping stone between normal skin and paper white.

Well, at least I still have a couple of days to think about it before the sale ends on Kui Jie's fullset outfit. Feh, the choices shouldn't have to be this hard, lol. :sweat

      • x 1
    25. @celga not sure if this is any help since I only have white skin from Loongsoul at the moment. You can see this picture to compared what they look like next to tan, normal skin and white(paper white) Ringdoll and normal Volks. The two SD girl are LS white that mellowed to a white with pink tint (2018 and 2017).

      Link

I'll add in resin comparison when I get my Eleven Jr in normal. Not sure how long I have left to wait. I ordered in September.

      • x 1
    26. @aireoko I see Wei Wuxian hahahahaha. Also, I seem to remember that your Xiruo was normal resin and not french right? I wonder if there's any color difference between normal white and french white?

    27. What is the palest doll you have? Or what skin color might help to add to the cimparison?

    28. Yep! He's there looking out of place and extremely pale for a normal skin lol

Also, they are normal resin and not french. I recently got the heel feet which is french and only slight different in color (less pink) and textured. But it may because the non french resin have yellowed/pinked a bit.

I wasn't able to find a good comparison online so I took the chance and bought it. Work perfectly from the far and in photos.

Here a flash example for anyone intrested: loongsoul white non french (2018 leg) and french white (2019 foot)

    29. Thank you! (Your dolls are gorgeous!! <3)

    30. @aireoko Ringdoll normal is PALE hahahaha. But I think it does vary by batches, because my Wei Wuxian looked slightly less pink vs my friend's. Not to mention our faceups looked completely different, but that's another story I suppose.

I can pick out the "glowiness" of the french resin in the photo, but other than that it's a great match indeed.

@celga you should be safe from banana-dom with the modern french/environmental yellows. I guess it might just be me, but since Loongsoul in particular do such *Chinese* characters, I sort of feel that skin with yellow undertones would suit the characters better, particularly if they're human characters. The gods/fairies/spirits could got either way though.

    31. I don't know if this will be able to help because I only have my already-mentioned Imported Normal Yellow ZhuZhao as a LS resin sample, but this group photo of almost all the dolls in my crew give a baseline of how pale/pink it is. The bodies being used by my hybrid Granado Michael and IH Scarlet are Impldoll's RealSkin (cast in the Environmental Resin), which are reaaaaally tanned by comparison.

And regarding French/Environmental resins, I can attest to their slight translucency. It may cause issues with hybriding to more opaque types. You can see hints of it on ZhuZhao's ear and the Impldoll body's hand. My Iplehouse resins aren't the "glow" type (I don't think my Granado is, either), and they reflect light differently. The translucency has its charms tho, kind of like how a real human hand looks when held up against the light.

    32. Most of my big LS boys are NYS, and yes, the yellow does get somewhat yellower, but even after almost 9 years my oldest NYS boy is still significantly lighter than DollZone NY has ever been (for example)
Both boys in that picture are LS NYS, the one on the left is the one that's almost 9, and the one on the right is probably closer to 5

      • x 1
    33. @Girrl are your boys normal resin or french/imported? But still, left is looking mighty fine for a decade-old doll.

    34. All my LS dolls are in the environmental/imported resin, I really like the way it photographs. Redoing the math, he's closer to 8 than 9, but I'm not terribly careful about yellowing and he's been on loads of hot, sunny car trips

      • x 1
    35. Ha! The deed is done, YouZhi is ordered, and boy, did I agonize over it. :XD: I finally settled on WS, because even though the photos of everyone's YS dolls are just gorgeous, my own experience with an eleven year-old WS girl is that she mellowed just a little to a lovely, creamy color that I don't know if I'd love as much if it had a yellow undertone. Probably not the most objective way to go since she's not imported resin, and I may regret my choice when I see him...but for now I am happy with it. :) Now the wait begins...

@Girrl, I love the way you play with your dolls. Hot, sunny car trips completely beat hiding in a box and never being seen!

    36. Thanks! I wish that I had been smart like you and ordered him during his sale period, but I thought it over for way too long. Oh well, at least I got the assassin outfit on sale! :sweat

    37. I was hoping for more fantasy dolls!! The new assassin is beautiful! Oooh, I really hope they release a fantasy 73 cm boy!! One with detachable horns!

    38. @LavenderDemoness the new boy QiongQi will have a beast version release later on. Hope he does have detachable horns!

    39. @celga Well... this is probably too late to help you now, but it might benefit other potential Loongsoul owners later on. I was looking for this Japanese owner's instagram when you asked about the skin comparison, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what his/her IG handle was! Anyway, I've found her again:

    40. I'm glad you posted the links! Those are lovely pictures!

    41. @fionvarre Great comparison shots, thank you for finding and posting them - I'm sure they will be very useful to future undecided buyers! Wow, the white really is paper white, isn't it, lol. I'm still happy with my choice though; my boy will pretty much be blushed from head to toe (which as @nancy_schroeder_ca said, will soften it), and in a few years when he has mellowed, I'll be glad I went with it. Until then, he'll just have to be my large and lovely snowman. :XD:

    42. @celga I would like to own a white skin (and tan skin) doll some day, but paper white really scares me lol. And blushing probably won't last very long with me, so sadly the full face and body blushing route isn't an option for me.

I've noticed that white skin seems to be the preferred skin color among Chinese BJD owners though. It's tempting to say this is related to the Asian perspective that white skin = beautiful, but people could also argue for the fact that most white skins photograph beautifully if the photographer knows their camera settings and lighting. Either way, when I check Weibo I always see so many gorgeous white skin dolls with gorgeously detailed faceups, and that makes me want my own WS doll as well haha.

      • x 2
    43. @fionvarre I think you may be right about white skin being the perfer skin based on asian perspective of beauty. I think my mom said it's based on class; the more indoor you are the more pale/ richer you are type of status.

Most of my dolls are white skin for the same reason as @celga, I'm hoping they eventually turn a pale yellow tone. Also, I was too scared to order differently from the promotional pictures without seeing the other skintone in the same sculpt and faceup. :sweat

      • x 1
    44. @fionvarre My photography skills suck, so that's not much of an impetus for me. I buy dolls for my own personal enjoyment, and social media isn't really an option...unless people want to ogle my pathetic attempts at taking a halfway decent picture. But I'm moderately careful about handling blushed dolls, so I should be alright. Large, economy size in paper white will be a new thing for me, but I'm okay with it - it's so pretty in the promo pics, how bad could it be? And when thinking about dolls, I always consider what's in store a few years down the road for them, because the future will last a whole lot longer than the here and now. I don't want to regret a resin choice for a doll that I love, watching it turn yellow rather than cream if it can possibly be avoided.

@aireoko I'm the same way - totally chicken. The promotional pictures pull me in, and I don't want to take chances on something I haven't seen before! :XD:

      • x 1
    45. @aireoko the problem with that is a lot of Southern Chinese have naturally darker skin vs Northern Chinese, but they're still held to the white skin standard. I see the same issue in India as well.

I think the Loongsoul whites will probably age well, but it might take close to a decade or more for that to happen, since the resin seems to be UV protected already? But next time I see a release that looks perfect for WS (like Baidi, which I missed out on), I'll definitely consider getting it in WS.

I usually prefer deciding on a skintone after seeing it in person though. The reason why I take promo pics with a grain of salt is because screen temperature/calibration varies by phone/PC, and most promo pics do undergo at least some digital manipulation/post processing, so what we see on screen might not be indicative of the resin's actual color at all.

      • x 1
    46. I feel like white skin dolls make really good fantasy dolls, almost ethereal. But does anyone think that the NPS is waaaaay too pink? Looks good in photos, but apparently in person it's like strawberry nesquik.

      • x 1
    47. LOL, ew, thanks for that image...glad I didn't have the NPS option.

I have a tendency to look way ahead, since I already have dolls that are over a decade old...so I'm good with the slow aging process (really good, actually). I'd like to be able to pass my dolls on to my daughter, and the less yellow the better, lol. I'd rather they be heirlooms than trash bait. :XD: Most of my dolls have been close enough to the promos to make me happy, though - I can't really think of a time that digital manipulation has made me go WHAAAT? when my doll arrived.

    48. So if im reading this right. Loong soul resin lasts a good while before yellowing at least? That is super helpful info since I'm still debating over a doll i haven't seen too much of though. He's a cutie just no idea what skin color he should get hahaha

    49. I wonder if the resin color lasts a while if it's left out in the open in indirect sunlight or if it's preserved in a box? Because I plan to display them at some point, and I'd like to know durability of the skin color over time.

    50. I was wondering that as well. So far mine seem the same for the non french resin when store away from sunlight vs in dark box. Her extra hands been in storage ever still match her and my daughter of dragon (2017). But I only have Xirou since 2018 so may not be a good reference point yet.

    51. @LavenderDemoness yes, that's exactly my take on the white skin too. I really loved both human and beast version Baidi, and the fact that he's a dragon probably makes white skin a suitable color for the character.

My Xiruo is Normal Pink Skin from late 2017 or early 2018 (can't remember at the moment), and she doesn't look all that pink to me. But I got her secondhand (and she's my only pink skin doll, so I have nothing for reference either), so I'm not sure how pink she was fresh off the box. I seem to remember reading somewhere that pink is the first color to fade away when it comes to resin?

@celga I love that description of heirlooms vs trash bait LOL. I actually think that in Loongsoul's case the WS dolls probably look very close to the promo photos if ordered fully blushed? As for the yellow skin, mine won't be out on display in my room since I don't have any display space left. They'll be kept inside their boxes unless there's a meet or I want to dress them up to take photos, so hopefully that will slow down the yellowing.

And for pink skin, as of late Loongsoul only seems to be offering that as an option for female dolls? Or so I've noticed. They've really cut down on the resin color options for new releases, unlike before when tan and real skin were still regular options.

    52. hello I have a73cm loong soul boy. and im planning on buying jointed hands preferably DF-H. but the only option they have is jointed hands for 70cm and 75cm. now im confused if i should buy the 70cm or the 75cm. I couldn't find a site so i can check the measurements if it will fit my 73cm boy.

    53. Here's a link to a picture of one of my 73 cm Helian's hands:
      Helian Rongying right hand

The description has measurements. I'm on my cellphone at the moment and it's hard to copy the info.

    54. I saw your post on MM, but wasn't able to reply there. Not sure if this will help, but a quick google search turned up the following:
      BJD jointed hands comparision

Looks like the regular 73 cm joint hands (which are slightly shorter than the claw hands) are about the same length as DF-H 70 cm. However, you'd need to confirm if the ball joint size is compatible as well?

    55. thank you for this. ill check if i can find the measurment of the dfh hand

thank you. im looking for the measurement of the dfh 70cm jointed hand. but couldn't find any

    57. hello, I have another question. i took a picture of my boys and i noticed that they have different skin color. i thought they are both normal yellow. my boy pictured on the right side is normal yellow based on the COA. but on the left side, can u help me what color? since it's a hybrid (freedom teller head on a loong soul body). unfortunately i dont have a coa of the loong soul body on the right side.

    58. Looks like normal yellow too to me. The non environmental resin that they don't offer anymore.

    59. oh i just got it recently. so they are both normal yellow? there is quite a difference on the color. thank you so much for answering my question :)
