Loongsoul 1/3 doll discussion Part 4

Jun 30, 2019

    1. The black skin appears more dark grey to me looking at the photo below and i think it looks cool. The human parts can have only the resin color no blushing.

    2. Looks like another gorgeous guy from Loongsoul is coming soon... How many dolls does Loongsoul release in a year???
I think I can hear the sound of my wallet screaming for help... :sweat

    3. I will pretend I did not see that lol ! ;)

    4. They release a new doll (sometimes two) every month, so I've pretty much given up on going the fullset route for everything they release.

This new doll is named Heyi, and they just released a more complete promo photo set today. He looks pretty cool! And his nose! I haven't seen a beak like that from Loongsoul in ages...

@IzabethS I regret not being able to order Black Dragon while the event with the gift baby black dragon was still running... But I'm glad I finally have the chance to own a beast doll from Loongsoul! Now if only the next two dragons won't tempt me too...

    5. Yooo he is so pretty! My wallet tho...

    6. Yep his nose is “something” ...
Also he reminds me Wolf Kui Mu Lang that is on my list to get next promo time.

    7. Hi!

I have a question regarding resin colour. Does anyone know if the normal yellow of Loongsoul is close to the normal yellow from Telesthesia? I am considering switching heads in the future and I'd like to know what resins might fit best...

    8. Oh my I really think Loongsoul will be the end of me :sweat I’ve been eyeing Yan Qi for a while now and came into a bit of extra money so I’ve decided to get him. Somehow I convinced my best friend (who is not a doll person, at all) to spring for him as well LOL. Don’t know where I will fit him...but I’ll make space :XD:

    9. I'm seriously considering to get He Yi as my second doll... I've totally fallen in love with his nose. :D
He makes kind of a sly expression and I like that.

Maybe someone could answer me the following questions, that would be a great help!
I'm unsure which body size I want to choose. Would his head look very small on the 80cm body? The only doll I currently own is about 70cm and I love his size! But I'm really curious about having an even taller doll... Does someone have a doll head from the Grace line on the 80cm body? I'd really love to see some pictures if anybody has some to share!

Also... what has been the average waiting time for Loong Soul dolls lately? :sweat
I don't mind waiting for a longer time but would still like to get an approximate idea of what I'm getting myself into before I make my decision.

    10. I'm interested in seeing owner photos of Lady Xiang as well - I'm done some searching and I have only come up with the promotional photos.
I just discovered Loong Soul last week (I'm new to the hobby) - these dolls are incredibly beautiful! I would so love to purchase a Lady Xiang full set. <saving pennies!>

On the subject of full sets (and ordered with face-ups), do they come with body-blushing as well? I'm assuming that is left to the owner, but I am curious just the same.

A good looking guy! ^_^ I'd love to know what the Chinese text on his left says!

    11. @Apocatiel You can try weibo ^^ I don’t really know how to navigate it that much tbh but I see sometimes reposts on LoongSoul’s weibo of owner photos~

I have had to order the faceup and body blushing with each doll (I’ve ordered two fullsets with Loongsoul, still waiting on them) and I think it’s like that in most cases~

Also I don’t know if anyone else knows this yet but I was contacted by AC’s and there’s a problem with Yan Qi’s fullset, they said the clothes resembles a character from a Chinese drama too much so they aren’t going to be doing the fullset orders basically :(

      • x 2
    12. Are they also going to be refunding some of the purchase price? I mean, it's not a "full set" if they send you a naked doll...

    13. So they are refunding me, I really really wanted the fullset though they said you can just keep the order with the doll but without the clothes/accessories but since I really loved the whole look I decided not to get him :sigh I am sad about it but for the most part okay since I still have Emperor Xuan and my Fox Xin Yue Hu (hopefully coming next month), but I feel a bit guilty as my friend who is not a doll person at all was really in love with his fullset and now she’s just really sad about the whole thing :pout: I wonder if this has ever happened before with Loongsoul or any companies in general? I wish they had made sure before making the him available for order....

    14. I'm not aware of this happening before with LS (or this specific situation with any other company) and you're absolutely right, they should have thoroughly vetted the full set design before offering it for purchase. As LS considers China to be it's main market, I sincerely doubt the resemblance was coincidental or accidental, in fact they were probably counting on it to help sell dolls.

      • x 2
    15. It’s really disappointing and I’m guessing they were in danger of getting in trouble because of copyright and stuff...I don’t even see Yan Qi for sale at all anymore. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth tbh :sigh

      • x 1
    16. Hearing that news is pretty upsetting... This speaks of not the greatest business practices. I love the way LS dolls look but now I'm kinda hesitant about buying one of them:huh?:

      • x 1
    17. My guess is they picked a classic style that looks beautiful and would be popular, without realizing it was similar to an existing drama costume. OR thought their design was different enough until they released it and got threatened by the company with the rights on the drama and decided to pull the outfit rather than try to fight with the corporation. :(

      • x 2
    18. tbh, "not the greatest business practices" applies to just about EVERY doll maker, with the exception of Resin Soul who (as far as I know) 1) respond to email, 2) ship dolls when they say they will, 3) stick to a reasonable production schedule, 4) actually have quality control, and 5) respect the IP rights of others.
Not having ever dealt directly with LS, I can't speak to how good their communication/customer service is, but I've generally gotten the dolls I've ordered within the production period I was quoted when I purchased them (*cough*DollShe*cough*), never received a doll with flawed or miscast resin (*cough*Fairyland*cough*Soom*cough*), and until now, I can't recall them ever infringing on anyone else's IP (*cough*DollZone*cough*mirodoll*cough*Fairyland(again!)*cough*)

      • x 3
    19. Of course, every company has its flaws. I'm not saying that LS is terrible and should never be bought from or anything like that. From my perspective, this looks like a case of better to ask forgiveness than permission which I'm not a fan of. I try not to buy from companies that have infringed on other's IP so, hearing that LS might have infringed on that drama's IP is upsetting. I hope this is a case of an overprotective production company who makes other companies stop production of anything that even tangentially resembles their work. (like Disney)

    20. I think overprotective production company may possibly be the case, since I checked Weibo and haven't found any posts from fans about this issue.

Chinese fans are a very vocal bunch, so if the resemblance was spotted by a fan of the drama in question or a by a concerned doll owner, the issue would definitely have blown up on Weibo first.

TBH Spiritdoll has released a couple of limiteds which strongly resemble characters from Mo Xiang Tong Xiu novels (specifically Untamed version Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, and generic Xie Lian though the color of the outfit is wrong), but I guess nobody actually raised any issues about those, which is why those dolls were never pulled out.

Still, I wish Loongsoul had actually issued a statement for transparency, instead of just pulling out the fullset without a word.

    21. @Apocatiel I ordered a YouZhi fullset last year from Alice's Collection. I had to pay extra for body blushing so, no.. body blushing is not included in fullset price. You'd have to opt yes for it.

      • x 1
    22. So despite the issue with Yan Qi I’ve received some good news—my Fox Xin Yue Hu fullset that I ordered through Alice Collection’s has shipped! :dance I’m so excited! I ordered him in August 10th of last year so it’s been a while but I did get faceup, body blushing, an additional accessories set for him and it’s within the time I was quoted as well. The only thing I am a bit concerned about is the tracking number they gave says the destination service area for DHL is somewhere in LA but I live in a different state? Usually with DHL it’s the state where the package is to be delivered so...I’m a bit concerned but I’ve already emailed Alice Collections about it...crossing my fingers it’s nothing to worry about :pout:

      • x 3
    23. As stated above, body blushing has to be ordered separately. There was even an option for blushing extra hands I think.

      • x 2
    24. Loongsoul's body blushing and very reasonably priced compared to other companies.

    25. Question for those here who have both 68 and 73 cm male dolls. Can the 68 cm dolls still manage to carry off hanfu made for 73 cm dolls?

I have dolls in both sizes, but most of the hanfu I've been buying recently for my dolls are 73 cm. The hanfu are still in transit, so I can't try them on to confirm.

    26. @skyadmirer: Thanks for letting me know - I thought that was the case. I am looking at purchasing from MoonlightBJD.com, and body blushing isn't a selection, so that is why I was asking. I see now that it's an optional selection on some other sites.

To tell the truth, I'd like to try body blushing with pastels. I don't think I have the ability to do face-ups, but I'd like to put my personal touch on a doll. (As I started researching BJDs, I had plans of trying my own face-ups, but the face-ups done by the doll company artists are just so beautiful, I've abandoned that plan for sometime in the future!)

@Hatsu: thanks for your reply too - I missed the post that you mentioned. :)

      • x 1
    27. @skyadmirer: Did you receive YouZhi yet? I really like him too, and was considering purchasing him later in the year if he is still available. I know his fullsets have sold out, but I'm curious if the fullsets came with the hat and basket he has in the photos.

    28. I JUST stumbled upon Black Dragon and lo and behold ... the order period ended yesterday, just my luck :o How often does Loongsoul release their dragon sculpts? I’m definitely saving up for one in the future!

      • x 1
    29. @Apocatiel I remember I asked a my dealer friend about the hat and basket, and she said they weren't included in the fullset.

@Koru Loongsoul doesn't regularly release dragon sculpts. They only do so when they happen to have a theme they're exploring that involves dragons, in this case the five dragon gods (五方龙神) from Chinese mythology:

      Wufang Shangdi - Wikipedia
      Dragon King - Wikipedia

Since Xuanlong was the third dragon, there are two more dragons to go, namely the Red Dragon (赤龙) and Yellow Dragon (黄龙), though Loongsoul seems to be doing Yinglong (应龙) in place of Yellow Dragon.

The last time Loongsoul released a big dragon doll before the release of White Dragon in 2018 was to celebrate the Year of the Dragon in 2012. The dragon doll from back then was also called Yinglong.

I think there's a possibility that Loongsoul may also time the release of the new Yinglong for the next Year of the Dragon, which would fall on 2024. However, the gap between the Azure Dragon and Black Dragon releases was quite short (just around 8 months), whereas it was around 1 1/2 years between White Dragon and Azure Dragon. So previous release timings may not be a good way to determine when Loongsoul will release the next dragon doll.

    30. Thank you fionvarre! I’ll have to keep an eye out for the new releases then! :3nodding:

    31. So sad I had to miss out on the Black Dragon. He looks stunning! I hope that LS decide to re-release their dragon dolls in the future so I can snatch a head for myself :XD:
Congrats to everyone who's ordered him!

      • x 1
    32. I'm also holding out on the red dragon and hope there is a release when I have available funds. I dont have space for a 70+ boy but hey, who can resist dragon? :wiggle

      • x 2
    33. Guys, you can always check the secondhand market! Since the waiting times for dolls are quite long it can happen easily that someone is no longer fond of the doll they’ve purchased. So there might be some Black Dragons for sale at the end of the year?

      • x 5
    34. @Apocatiel hi~ I received my YouZhi last year in October. I got lucky and got my LS doll in about 6 months lol. Unfortunately, the hat and basket are not included. Btw, the traditional Chinese balance and extra pair of hands could be included as additional expenses (when I bought the fullset through Alice's Collection)

      • x 3
    35. This happened to me too. He was the first male doll I absolutely loved, and I was super sad when they reached out to say they would not be creating his full set. They did refund my money. But, wow - he was such an incredible full set doll. I am hoping for something similar one day.

    36. Looks like Loongsoul is releasing another new doll? This guy reminds me of their Goumang, and this is the first time I've ever seen LS does both the OE and SP heads on a doll...

    39. Thanks for the link. Love his concept too.
I am wondering what kind of character he is... Is he a God, or a dancer or actor? He does look unearthly to me... Wish I could read Chinese to understand what they say about him on weibo :)

      • x 3
    40. So agree!!! The translation was gibberish. Couldn't understand much....lol. The hat had me thinking of some kind of priest or shaman...dunno.

      • x 1
    41. The drum, bell, and hands look like an entertainer or dancer. But Chinese martial arts in cdramas use instruments for power moves too.

      • x 1
    42. A question for those with the 73 boys. What size wig fits the 73 boys the best?

I was going to go with what the wiki stated which is 22-24 (9-10 in) wigs, but some of the newer sculpts have smaller head circumferences? The ones released from this year and last year range from 20-21.5 instead. *_*

    43. Mine all wear stretchy 8-9 wigs. I've got a MuChen, Morgan, MuXuan, LongYi, Ivan, and HaoTian, if that's any help

      • x 2
    44. @bluebellaen He seems to be Goumang in a different outfit. From the summary it says "In this season, the God of Spring prays, celebrating together with the people".

Muzheng is also Goumang's title as one of the five celestial officials or 五官.

@marci12 the hat is actually shaped like a government official's hat. Kind of makes sense when you consider that the Taoist pantheon is arranged like a bureaucracy.

    45. @fionvarre Thank you for the translation. No wonder he reminded me so much of Goumang when I first saw him. I guess LS just decided to reuse this beautiful sculpt then, but that works great for me, as I already have a Goumang so now I don’t need to feel bad for not being able to bring home another gorgeous doll from them lol...

      • x 1
    46. Thanks @fionvarre !!! The translation is so helpful. I like him...arggg. I liked Goumang too, but wasn't able to get him at his last release...hmm...

      • x 1
    47. I have a Goumang too, but I'd love to have that SP head and outfit...

Loongsoul draws a lot from Chinese mythology, and some gods do have multiple incarnations/titles, which gives them an excuse to repackage the same doll in a different fullset.

Ditto on their dolls being gorgeous though. If I could (unlimited funds and space) I'd definitely buy each fullset as it comes out.

    48. [
@marci12 : He is SO awesome!

Though I have some questions - I read on his description on Legend Doll that his mask is "time limited", and that time ends April 21st. I haven't seen that stipulation on other sites - It would seem, to me, to make more sense if the mask would be available with the full set as long as the full set is still being sold. I'm confused! What do you think? (And I absolutely LOVE that mask - so beautiful!!)

Also, on Legend Doll, it looks like a 62cm version of Yan Ling/Swallow Fairy is available, where, again, other sites don't mention that at all. I'd think that his outfit might be too large/long for a doll body that's 6 inches shorter!) I'm curious if some of the information on Legend Doll is a typo, as the choice between 62cm and 68cm isn't mentioned on some other sites - Alice's Collections, for example, the full sets are listed only with the 68cm body..

I'm new to the world of BJDs - I'm not certain how much the components of a given doll can be changed. I'd actually rather have the 62cm option - but only if the head looks proportional with that body and that the clothing fits well.

(I have become absolutely obsessed with Loong Soul in the past week or so!!) :)

    49. @fate_xo : Thanks! I'll see if I can figure out Weibo! :)

    50. @Apocatiel Thanks! And good questions!! I've only ordered my LS dolls through Alice's Collections and never had problems, so decided to keep doing so. I'd personally trust what's on Alice's site over Legenddoll, but that's just me. The best option would be to email both Legenddoll and AC and see what responses you get back after they talk with LS... to see if the info is the same.

I think the Swallow's mask is awesomeness too, and didn't know it was time limited at all. I think it's limited only to fullsets, and when the fullsets are sold out, the masks will be too. If there is that distinction on Legenddoll, it might have more to do with the time limited discount available for the fullset, and they weren't clear enough? Again... emailing is your best shot :).

    51. Does anyone have a Helian Rongying with the LS company face-up in the skin tones 'french white' or 'french yellow'? :chibi
I would be very happy about owner photos. :kitty2

    52. Yes, but not sure when I'll be able to take pictures. Hopefully someone has some already!

      • x 1
    53. After many months of searching, I finally found a Helian Rongying with an LS company face-up on Instagram this evening. :kitty2
Um, what should I say?! Sadly he will move off my wishlist, again. :blush Too bad, I really had hope that this doll would be just something for me.:sigh
Well, it's not that bad either. Then I wait and hope for a re-release of the LS White Dragon Bailong. :eusa_pray:chibi

      • x 1
    54. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong... but I can't recall LS ever re-releasing one of their limited dolls. There's a fair number I'd love to have a second chance at getting, but they seem to be one of the (very) few companies that actually means it when they say a doll is limited to X number or only available for a set period of time

      • x 2
    55. Well, at least I hope so!;)
I've only heard of a few LS re-releases of discontinued dolls so far. And when it was unfortunately only the nude dolls and not the complete limited edition versions. Here is an example of an old LS offer.

      • x 1
    56. Unless you want a human version of White Dragon Bailong, that example re-release isn't especially promising. I assumed that you wanted the dragon version (with fantasy parts), and I'm sure I've never seen those versions re-released, probably because it would require maintaining/making/repairing specific body molds which is much more work than just the mold for the head

      • x 2
    57. Exactly, I mean the White Dragon Bailong - and not Baidi (human version). :kitty2
LS will most likely not offer a rerelease of this complete doll, I already thought so. (And I should rather rely on the marketplace.) But I like to be surprised. :abambi:;)
A couple of dragons may still come from LS. Maybe I like one of them better than the White Dragon?!? :chibi

      • x 1
    58. LS does dragon releases fairly consistently so I'm sure we'll see more of those, and it kind of feels like they up their dragon game over time so the next couple dragons could be pretty spectacular ;)

      • x 1
    59. I really hope so. :kitty2
It seems to me that the LS dragon dolls are very popular. So maybe there will be more dragon sculpts soon?!? :thumbup
I am already very excited to see what the next dragon will look like. :cheer

      • x 2
    60. He's up now and I am in some serious danger. He looks more like my OC than the doll I picked out recently XD I've never looked at a doll and immediately thought "Oh, it's my OC!" like that before. I'm so happy. And so mad:XD:

Looking at his blank head and the Goumang blank head this doll is DEFINITELY a different sculpt. Some parts look the same, but I had my suspicions. I don't think LS has ever re-released a doll before anyway?
