IpLemons He looks really good! Though I think he belongs in the Souldoll Mini Thread since his head is Souldoll? At least it always was my understanding that the head sculpt defines in which thread a hybrid belongs to?
@Roterwolkenvogel Rajko looks great! You have me stalking nezumitoo's work now. Also, as promised, here is James in his new shoes. I also traded is 11mm Liz Ultra eyecos for LA Iris. They have a slightly bigger pupil, which sets more natural for him. Too bad the color is much less magical. Guess I am still on the hunt for the perfect eyes for this boy. But the LA Iris is a pleasant look. James: New eyes and shoes by novemberkris, on Flickr
just a little new portrait of Willy......I'm totally in love with this doll Willy by Lady Jabberwock, on Flickr
hehe, I will post that soon James and Willy are super cute Little picture of Alban in the garden ^^ Alban by youpla's doll, sur Flickr
@Novemberkris Though those eyes look really good in James! @Lady Jabberwock Willy is so handsome @Youpla I adore your guy 3 Today I got Rajko's outfit from pepperonipizza here on the board - it's made based on an outfit from Micheletto Corella in "The Borgias" and he definitely rocks it 8D Though I should get moving and finally get his and his brother's weapons OTL
Roterwolkenvogel- Rajko looks awesome! I like the stripes on the doublet. I think I know which outfit from the show you based it off of too Youpla- Alban is so cute, and he looks so carefree and happy in that photo. It's always nice to see him! Lady Jabberwock- Your portraits of Willy make me jealous of your photography skills! My camera hates taking up-close pictures, lol. Novemberkris- I had those same shoes! I'm looking for some gold shoes for my boy, and ebay has a ton of options, but I need to measure his feet first, lol.
@Youpla thank you, and you know that I always love so much your little cute alban ^^ @Roterwolkenvogel thank you, I love him so much! and your new Rajko's outfit is really beautiful @zomjirate oh you know, my digital camera hates up-close pictures also, I manage to have this result with a reflex + macro lens (my reflex is old, canon D70, but most of the time a old reflex produces better pictures than a recent digital camera)
Dear Limhwa Mono owners please spam your lovely boys to help me while I wait for mine to come home ( face up artist says early part of next week yay!)
Yes, I'm buying him from someone in the United Kingdom ( where I live) but the seller is also a face up artist and is doing his . once she sends him it should only take 24 hours to get to me.
Just finished the faceup for my beautiful Chase! (S)He's gender-fluid, faceup inspired by the beautiful Andreja Pejic. Now she just needs eyes! Can anyone show me the difference between 10mm and 12mm in this sculpt?
vanzinger That's such an amazing idea omg Can't show you a pic of 12mm in these guys, but my boys wear 10mm and I personally find 12mm too big.
Roterwolkenvogel - Thank you! I only hope I've done her justice 10mm seems so hard to find good colors, especially for how much shadow the eyewell seems to cast. Do you use high dome, low dome, material preference? Testing the acrylic in her was so dull and dark - is that my lighting and result of the size of the 14mm eye, or is there a difference between eye types? My other dolls all have pretty clear, big eyes, so I'm not sure how to choose for Chase because she is very unique.
@vanzinger I don't think ever used Acrylics after my first year in the hobby - my two boys wear EnchantedDoll Urethanes and most of my dolls have Urethane eyes nowadays. Acrylics just always seemed incredible dull to me compared to other options. The ED eyes I have are low dome, I find those easier to get in. I could see MakoEyes in 12mm working though, the iris of their 12mm eyes is as small as other maker's 10mm iris so that is a cheaper option
D-double post, got my Mono brothers together on a picture today xD Varekai (left) will be four years with me this year and Rajko (right) will have his one year anniversary too!
Roterwolkenvogel -- Wow, your boys look awesome! It's incredible how a different resin and faceup can make the same sculpt appear. Is one of them dyed? Thanks for the tips! I also find acrylic to be rather dull, and the only reason I have any is because they came with other dolls. Everyone is wearing glass otherwise, which is my preference. But of course, I also have not tried urethane yet! That seems to be what most people like? Looking at Makoeyes... the owner pictures in the reference thread here look super different from the ones on the website :X
vanzinger funnily enough none of them is dyed - Varekai (left) is tan from 2009 which has faded considerably, Rajko (right) is tan from 2014 which is incredible orange and looks a bit like s.o. used too much spray tan xD Urethanes are absolutely awesome and worth the money IMO! As for Makos, I so far always found the ones I got rather true to the pictures on the website.
Roterwolkenvogel WOW, that's an incredible difference in resin batches! Did you notice Varekai (whose name I adore, btw!) yellowing as well as fading? That change is fascinating. How many pairs have you gotten from Mako? Your boys have really gorgeous golds. They're definitely the most striking on the site. I'm looking for lighter/brighter blues, and they've got a lot of bolder and darker colors it's hard to tell how bright the blues will be. Owner pictures definitely look way more brilliant and reflective. Out of curiosity, have any Mono owners here tried Minifee high heel feet on? I was looking at my RS Rong's ankles and the ball on the foot piece is pretty big, but no reason it couldn't be sanded smaller. Minifee seems to be a very slightly better resin match though.
vanzinger He was already rather faded when I adopted him back in 2011 and he has since then only lost a bit of color - I mostly realised how much paler he was when Rajko arrived xD Oh and their eyes aren't Mako but EnchantedDoll! Personally I have like six pairs of Makos floating around in different dolls, sadly no blue ones :/
Milo arrived today - he's so handsome ! Please excuse the no clothes /wig. Hes having his wig made as we speak ! Milo by Sue, on Flickr
samson Yay another Mono owner congrats on your boy! What wig is he supposed to be getting?
Thank you Roterwolkenvogel ! My daughter is making him a blonde alpaca wig, it will take a day or so !
samson oh I love tan boys with blonde wigs Looking forward to see him with his wig!
I just discovered Mono the other day while researching boy dolls. OMG! I want him so bad!!! I am currently trying to move funds around to bring him home! Does anyone know how well he works with a minifee girl or JID girl? I am so ordering him from junkyspot, I love them and NO long wait times! So he is single jointed right? How well does he pose right out of the box? What do I have to do to get him to pose well? Restringing, wire, ect? I am still pretty new to the hobby (been collecting about two years). I want to get him Makoeyes, which size would fit him best, 10mm or 12mm? Also where is a good place to get him pants that are long enough to fit him?
Milo by Sue, on Flickr. Milo has his wig, made by my daughter Allstar ! I'm really pleased with it, I think he looks so cute ! I can answer a few questions, Milo wears 10 ,mm eyes and is currently wearing jeans by Brennil ,( Her Delicate Strength,) He can wear jeans from Nine9 style too !
@apestarbright Regarding eyes, Mako does not carry 10mm but the iris of their 12mm eyes are as small as other suppliers 10mm eye irises so they should work. For other makers I'd suggest 10mm, my boys wear 10mm Enchanted Doll eyes. As for posing, I'd definitely suggest sueding the breast joint, that one had the habit of snapping into weird positions with both of my boys. Otherwise he is a solid poser though do not expect MNF like posing from these guys (cause single jointed). Pant-wise, mine wore TTYA jeans which fitted perfectly! As for working with JID or MNF - that depends. I find he does not look a bit funny next to dolls with heads that lean more towards 7" (i.e. most of the JIDs and some of the older MNFs), though that depends on your personal preference! I do have a MNF Marcia at home since yesterday as well as a JID Violet and could make a quick comparison for you if you want
He might work with an Isar or a Violet JID girl though--those heads are definitely smaller than the other JID girls from the wig woes I've heard.
Point taken, Violet does have a rather small head - though I can't say I have any other JID girls here to compare to her head wise XD
Thanks for answering all my questions! I didn't realize makoeyes didn't offer 10mm. I have never bought eyes that small. I have a JID Violet! I would love to see some comparison photos! Thank you so much!
Hi, I am new to this thread! I currently have a tan Mono on layaway secondhand and I am so excited to pay him off~ The Mono is a sculpt I've been eyeing for at least two years and finally was able to take the plunge XD Everyone's dolls look absolutely amazing!
Mono is so adorable. Despite his simple engineering I find myself often fussing over him. Less so now that he has Rory (a Limhwa lily) to hang out with (he won't let go of her, haha.). apestarbright, I am considering finally ordering my Violet during the summer sale at Iplehouse. If I do I will post comparisons afterward. In the meantime, I have a JID boy, GSE girl, and a Limhwa girl of the same size. Pardon Amanda's nudeness (GSE Ekaterina), I am still making her clothing. Now that I look at this, with artful arrangement, you can make the head sizes not look so different. You can fake some perspective. Hehe.
Haha, thanks. My boyfriend posed them that way for me after I had been gone for a week. I walked in the room and all my dolls were welcoming me home. He's afraid to touch them (he knows I fuss over them and is afraid to damage them), but did anyway to see me smile. Of course, James kind of looks somewhere between bewildered or terrified. Alban, as always, is looking so handsome. I love his face-up!
Thank you so much. I'm really pleased with the way he has turned out. My daughter made his wig and I love it !
samson He is stunning! That wig Rinoa I'd maybe e-mail him? I got my second guy when I mailed him and he ordered him with his next order with Lihmwa.
Ooh lovely I just found out about Limhwa in general, and I'm falling in love with a couple of their sculpts... It's super confusing to find what they are offering though :/ I like Mono a lot. I'm always on the lookout for slim male dolls. Mono's a little on the adolescent side for me, but I might still be interested... What do you guys think, can he be done up to look older?
Hi, I personnally think it would be difficult to make him look much older, because of his face which is really between a boy and a man with still some (cute) roundness on the cheeks ^^ I saw once a Limho Mono with carved cheeks, he looked a bit less childish. If I 'd have to give an age to mine, I' d say early 20s or something... @samson it's funny because I take quite the same picture as yours above a few weeks ago So here's another one of my Limho Mono
I would love to see yours, though I think your photography skills far out way mine ! I love that shot of your Mono, hes so cool !
Lovely photo, his pose is very lifelike! Hmmm, yeah round cheeks for sure; but actually I think the biggest thing that makes him look young is the big eyes. Guess those are both pretty hard to change :P I've never tried carving resin before; that sounds pretty scary. Yeah, this little guy's sweet, but I think he might be a pass for me.
@ samson Here it is ^^ Thanks for the compliment but on't underestimate yourself, your picture is lovely and your boy too. It's funny because despite having the "same" doll, making the same pose, our pictures have a very different feel. Yours feel warm and sunny, and mine perhaps cold and moody... @Marjie yes you're absolutely right about the eyes! I personally wouldn't try carving my doll... you could try sanding but I assume it would be a very long process! If you like more mature MSD, have you look at Lumedoll ? They have some pretty ones, I really like "Rischa" .
Poulette love your guy! Esp. his bracelets are awesome XD As for Limho looking mature... I think it is possible? Both my guys are older adults and while you could say that Varekai does look more innocent and younger, I think Rajko pulls off the older adult look. But that might be his tattoo XD
Your guy indeed does not look so innocent and not childish! The faceup has something to do with it for sure! A good faceup can really change the look of a doll! Mine has the default face up which is very soft. It's funny because mine used to have short hair too but it definitely doesn't make him more mature (quite the contrary?) unlike your guy! Great guys and pictures by the way...(are they supposed to be brothers?)
@Poulette yes, my guys are supposed to be (half)brothers - needed an excuse to get a second Mono XD Reminds me that I dragged poor Varekai with me last Saturday on a meet - we are back with the horns.
Aww thank you - and I see exactly what you mean. Your photo is lovely, your guy is so moody looking - love him ! Your boys are amazing ! I must admit though, Ive not seen a single Mono Ive not loved !
No, I hadn't heard of Lumedoll actually, thanks for the suggestion! I do like some of those faces, but the bodies just don't compare to Limhwa's, which is a lot of the reason I'm interested in Mono. I'm not looking for a mature mini so much as I'm looking for mature slender males, but the slender male bodies are all minis and look like children. So far I've found some bodies I like and some faces I like, but not often on the same doll. Maybe this means I should look into hybriding... I guess with that in mind I could get a Mono and try to get him looking older, then get him a different head if I can't manage it.
OMG! Your Monos are so awesome and sexy, I love them! I got mine since months but I forget share with you, sorry! I sanded a bit his lips and eyes also his nails (too girly to me) by myself, it's my first mod :p I ordered thro junkyspot, but my faceplate came broken but they sent me a replacement very quickly. Sometimes it falls but I added some eyeputty for secure... Well, here's Hans without his eyes or wig but still lovely ^_^
DreamSight - oooh hes so lovely ! I agree with Poulette, I like his white hair
I usually just lurk on this thread, but seeing the parade of pretty Mono's inspired me to post mine. I got him from Junkyspot as well, and I adore him. The more Mono's the better in my opinion!
