Omg I was just checking in on this thread because I finally have money to get a Lee-El boy.... they never got better huh? This is horrible news I just posted something to their Q&A section on their website saying I've heard of these problems and would like to know if they've fixed anything yet.
I just want them to send out the dolls for people who have already paid for them and haven't been able to get their money back. I would have liked a Livan, but as of right now, I'd much rather see the people with unfulfilled orders receive their items. Good luck on hearing anything from them. I sent them an email a few weeks ago, asking if they were still in business, and I still haven't gotten a response.
There are still folks with no doll and no refund? Ooooouch. I didn't realize that. That's definitely the priority then.
70 cm dolls are already too heavy to carry , 90 cm will be more difficult to carry, but they should be more convenient to buy clothes, can buy some baby clothes
Naw, that's all relative. I have several dolls over 70cm, and love them all! Some are heavier than others, but seriously, I would love more companies to make more of them. In general, the tall dolls are too skinny for many baby clothes. Plus, the baby clothes look like... baby clothes. I do manage to cut and re-sew some 12 month old shirts for my Granado Titan. He's beefy enough to fill most of the shirts.
I have several dolls in the 65-74cm range and I don't find them too heavy at all. This weekend I was at a doll meet and handled a Smart Doll and it was very light but I actually prefer the heft of resin.
The Lee-el site really is gone, how very unfortunate...! Hopefully it went under only after providing dolls or refunds to people. I wish I had been able to buy some more accessories for my doll before the disappearance, I really regret not having the tall boots and an extra wig. Clothes can always be homemade, but shoes and hair are too much.
Man, I really am bummed that they have disappeared. I liked their dolls. And the clothes were nice. I hope everyone got refunds.
Refunds, hahahahahahaha! Let me explain how bankruptcy works. Usually, you're already behind on bills and then whatever money comes in goes to pay off the most immediate creditors to keep going until finally the bank takes everything including the money. The bank gets paid first, then resin guys, cardboard box makers, pillow manufacturers and everyone else are standing in line with their hands out. Refunds....you crack me up.....
I'm sorry they've gone - I didn't have the big guys - but got the little tin man and lion. Even worse is all those who have lost out financially. Apart from the older bigger companies - there alot springing up that we happily pay our money to - with no idea if they are going to be OK or go bust and we lose the lot
That's the thing, is that these smaller guys are trying to make a dent but it's hard to compete. It's not like those guys are bad or anything, they're just small business people and you can bet they lose big as well. I've seen other threads where people are calling them thieves etc but that's dumb. I would love to see those people try to setup a company, find out how many orders it really takes to pay the bills, interest on the startup loan etc and then see what they say. The worst you can say is that some of these companies were probably unrealistic in realizing the amount of sales needed to run the operation. But when they die there's no money left, that's why they go bankrupt. It's a bummer for all concerned but this is an ultra-marginal enterprise and the big players have evolved with marketing schemes to keep people in their eco-sphere. That's why the LE system has developed. Since I had plans for one of these dolls this year I'm lucky because losing that money would have sucked, big time. But I would have understood that it was a bet on a small player. I bet knowing the economics would be fascinating.
It is disgraceful though that they refused to answer repeated requests for information on orders, and give any sort of notice that they would be unable to fulfill pending orders, especially given the overall price of the 90 cm dolls, and I think that is where many hard feelings from customers come from. It's hard to not feel like one has been robbed when $1000 has been spent, and despite repeated assurances that there would be a doll, and then nothing, not even an apology. (It is also embittering when orders for the smaller-sized dolls were being fulfilled, even while people waiting for their bigger dolls were kept waiting.)
Yep, that's the shitty part. It would be better for them to just come out and say, "Hey, the resin guy refused to deliver cuz we're behind on payment and the bank just locked us out of the building and we're hosed, which means you're hosed, sorry!" Human nature being what it is the shame and embarrassment probably makes it easier to just shut off the email account and flee to a country with no extradition. I had a situation like this last year with a company that seemed to almost go under and has since come back. Luckily I was able to bully paypal into giving me my money back even though we were way past the due date. That's what sucks most about the doll enterprise is the whole "pay me and I'll build it" ethos. It makes the whole thing risky moreso with the paypal rules. It's also what makes it hard for the small doll maker to get traction. A few failures happen and people understandably don't want to try 'em out. If I were starting out, I wouldn't even do it without bankrolling a reserve of "dolls in stock". That way you could build a customer base and gain customer confidence over time. And you have been robbed of your money but I'm sure these people don't intend that to be the outcome.
karlkai-04 by Kai Pirinen, on Flickr Well. Lee-el might be gone, but the beautiful dolls they produced exist nevertheless. I'm really happy with mine~
Any news about Lee el? Did you got your dolls? I see the site works fine. Clicked on it today. Chris is so awesome. But after reading some are still waiting for the dolls for a long while....
@Karl-Kai Wow, your doll is gorgeous, so handsome. I really hope you all will receive your doll soon and looking forward to purchasing one of their 90cm dolls in near future then! :-)
Does anyone know of other companies that make 80cm+ girl dolls? I always wanted a Selena but since seeing all the controversy around Lee-el (plus the fact that they disappeared), I guess I'll need to find an alternative to her Any help?
Dollmore has 105cm girls, not Dollshe. Dollmore also has 79cm girls. But they're sculpted with immature bodies. Lee-el's Selena was the only doll I can think of with a nicely mature body at that size. Below that you have Doll Chateau at 68 cm and some others at 65cm. Magical Angel has a 180cm girl. I can't think of anyone at the 80cm range. If there were and it was nice I would definitely own one. Nefer Kane had one at 82 but it's long sold out.
Oh man, I hate the fact that they disappeared with the money of so many people. I loved their big guys, but good thing I didn't order one since they weren't reliable. Does anyone know who sculpted those 90cm guy heads? Maybe they work for more companies, I'd love to see more of their work.
I am happy and lucky my purchase with Lee-el went like a dream, but I also feel very sorry for them who did not have such a smooth experience. Which is why I feel somewhat guilty showing my doll around here… Still, I really want to share an autumn photo I just took of Kaino since I love him so much: karlkai-05 by Kai Pirinen, on Flickr
Such a lovely face! I wish there were tons of these guys (and gals) around! I know what you mean. I need to get my boy out and about too. But I have to get over the feelings of guilt....
Aernath, thank you! I, too, wish there would be more of these dolls. I always hope people would post pictures of their Lee-el dolls here, but… maybe we all just feel too guilty. However, I wish one day you (and everyone else owning Lee-el dolls!) would start to share more photos of these lovely dollies!
They are still gorgeous. Love your boy! Last time I posted the Lee el site was still active, but now they completely disappeared. Bugger. I really love the Chris mold.
Karl-Kai he looks amazing! Thank you for sharing! Don't feel guilty, at least someone got one of these amazing big dollies so we can see owner photos!
DragonElf, thank you! Glad to hear that! And it really is a bugger the site is gone... it would have been great if you got Chris. That mold is pretty. HanaHikari, thank you! Both for the praise and the encouragement. ^_^ These dolls really are amazing in person. Even if they are no human pretzels when it comes to movability, they are so expressive and their weight helps them to stand on their own pretty solidly. Speaking of the nice sculpting: have you found out who the sculptor is, yet? If not, maybe this thread in DoA can offer help: leeel`s LQ line up!! 10cm~
I know this thread is not that lively, but my love for Kaino is alive and well, thus a new photo: karlkai-06 by Kai Pirinen, on Flickr
@Karl-Kai Awwwww, he is such a handsome fellow! Please spam him all you wish! I loooovvvveee his hair and jacket, it's so bad-ass!
Have not taken pics of my guys for awhile now so here they are again, my male models I am also looking for new short wigs for my boys but so far none that I like. Its harder to find short wigs than long hair wigs.
Oh yum! Thank you for that pick-me-up on this cold winter day! Yes, big short wigs are tough to find. Although, Iple with their EID and HID boys, might have some good ones in the right size.
Hi guys! The Lee-el web is back up, I don't know if that's a good sign or not. :/ It says that the CRay Team is responsible for sculpting Lee-el boys, but I have no idea if the sculpting team has a twitter or Instagram where we could talk to them. I have been dying for a Lee-el Chris since 2014, but I am so afraid to order. At least Paypal made the dispute time longer so I would be covered if I order. EDIT: Cray Team also did some sculpting work for Crobidoll if anyone's interested. They did the M Line Crobi body and the Rahid head.
@Osaka Yeah, that's what I'm interested in too. I tried sending them an email and a Q&A form, I wonder if they will reply.
@HanaHikari --It will certainly be interesting to see if they reply finally. I think I will try emailing them again too. I would still love to get a Livan someday, but it is going to take a very long time for me to be willing to trust them enough to purchase.
@Osaka Yeah, definitely try, who knows. If I ever save up the $900, I'm still not gonna trust them, I'm gonna trust Paypal to keep me safe.
I might just drop them a line... out of curiosity, did anyone ever bring home a Selina? I don't know that I've ever seen owner pictures.
Oh, it was nice to see more Lee-el doll photos here! Here is one of mine, taken during Christmas: karlkai-07 by Kai Pirinen, on Flickr Also, is Lee-el really doing a comeback? I found nothing about that. If Lee-el starts to exist once more, I hope they will sort out all of the old unfulfilled orders before accepting more. Has anyone got any replies to their messages?
Yes, nice photo! He looks almost perfectly in scale with the tree and presents. And I love that shirt! He looks great!
madera and aernath, thank you both! I’m happy to hear your lovely comments. Taking pictures of Kaino is so much fun, as is getting him clothed.
Okay, I had to brush the dust off him, (omg-I had to brush the dust off him!!) but we got a quick Valentine's Day photo! Singha - Leeel tan Alzad by aernath, on Flickr
I am so green with envy and kicking myself in the rump over not grabbing one of these guys when I had the chance. So amazing!
madera: Thank you very much! And hopefully one day the chance of getting one of these guys comes back to you. aernath: Wow, he is handsome! Great that he got the dust off of him, he should hang around this thread more often. The jewel heart fits perfectly in the Valentine’s Day theme!
Happy April's Fool day! I am not going to prank anyone, rather than that, here is a photo of Kaino: karlkai-09 by Kai Pirinen, on Flickr
