LDoll- October 28-29 - Lyon France .

Feb 6, 2018

    1. Thanks to you both! I'm thinking we will be OK, even with limited language ability. It's good to know people who will be patient with us. I have had no problems so far, of course. I have already ordered some things from vendors that I can pick up at L-Doll! Buying dolls and items internationally can be too easy sometimes! :XD:

    2. It would be lovely to have dinner with some fellow bjd collectors on the Saturday evening of Ldoll. Anyone interested?

    3. @fairygirl --Oh... I'm not even close to figuring things like that out yet! But maybe! :3nodding: --I think L-Doll closes around 7pm on Saturday?

I'll post here as time gets closer (although it IS getting closer, isn't it??? *panic*).

@elf-ears and I will be in Lyon to sight-see on Friday, too.

    4. I don’t now yet if i will be avalable on saturnday night but if yes, i’ll be please to join you :)

    5. I'm going too yeay I come from Sweden and I would love to meet you all.

    6. Okay, great. I look forward to meeting many of you! It's October now, so Ldoll should be here before we know it. :)

    7. I know--time is flying! I'm still sorting out what types of luggage to bring, and worrying about having enough space to buy things and take back...! We'll be touring about a bit before L-Doll, so will need to carry it all about with us... and haul it back to Paris to fly back...!

I already did some pre-shopping--so I know I will be carrying 3 little dollies back with me...! I hope I will not go crazy shopping at L-Doll and other places we will be... but I probably will... :doh:horror:

    8. Okay, now I'm curious, which dollies did you buy?

    9. ...eeek... I shouldn't have done it because I have so many dolls, but :doh:XD:

      1. NympheasDolls, ChouChou, Green Tea/Glow-in-dark
      2. FeaDolls, Mimu (tiny ram/sheep)
      3. CreaturesDolls/Mewiefish, Mini Bactro (blue).

I tried to keep to smaller dolls because it all needs to fit in my luggage! :aeyepop:

      ============

Oh... looks like we should be free for dinner on Saturday! Yay! :D

    10. I finally managed it. Just booked a flight and a place to stay yesterday. So, I will definitely come! I am so happy. I just have to decide if and which doll will travel with me:)

    11. Hi everyone ! I'm from Lyon but it's the first time I will be attending Ldoll :)
Don't worry about the language barrier, a friend of mine who's used to go there told me that there will be many people who are going to talk in english because the hobby is an international one !
However, if you have any trouble communicating with a french seller (for example) you can always find a french person who can do the interpreter ! (I'll be happy to help ! :))

Can't wait to see you all there ! :whee:

    12. Oh, a Mini Bactro? And also in blue? How cute is this :D. I always wanted the large Bactro in light blue... but I somehow always missed the times they were on preorder and had not enough money left when they were available at LDoll. Yet the minis are very cute and tempting, too.

    13. I missed the large Bactro sales, too... and at first I didn't think a mini Bactro would replace my desire for a Bactro, so I didn't do the pre-orders. It was only when I saw that Mewiefish was going to be a vendor at L-Doll that I asked what dolls she might have and if I might pre-pay for one. I decided that mini Bactro would be good enough (I have seen a few Bactros for sale, but they are expensive!), so I just couldn't resist! :XD:

    14. I’m focusing on this to see me through the first half of this semester... a break from coursework and my first convention! I doubt I’ll have much to spend, but looking forward to seeing everything, watching the competitions and speaking to people as I’ve never met another BJD collector in real life!

Has anyone chosen which dolls they’re bringing? I’m terrified of flying with one for the first time (and getting a 70cm doll in my cabin bag!) but looking forward to being able to take him out somewhere I know I’ll be accepted!

    15. Only 2 weeks to go!!! I'm getting superexcited. I love seeing all the sneak previews that some artists are showing on their social media.

I look forward to meeting you all <3

    16. Yes, it's very exciting! I'm trying to get so many things done because overseas travel makes things a little more difficult--such as having cell phones that don't automatically work!--ugh! Once I get on the plane, it will be relaxing, because there will be no more worries about what I have packed or not. :XD:

I need to think about how I can get my little dolls back on the plane, too! I need to have a packable bag to take over with me. And I hope I do not see a LOT more things--but I fear that I will buy much more...! (that is the point of the trip, I suppose, but airlines make it difficult to go crazy with all their restrictions... :sweat )

    17. I can't believe how fast time is flying! I land in Lyon around 1pm on the Saturday of Ldoll but I hope to get my stuff dropped off at the hotel and get to the convention centre as soon as possible.

Thanks to all who offered to help with translation! Looking forward to meeting lots of other bjd folks. :D

    18. Wow! So soon! I am so nervous even though I already have my flight and place to stay overnight. I am so excited! This will be the first time to meet other people from the hobby! And my french is... terrible xD

    19. I am pretty excited. I don't speak French aswell so English is the way to go. I would love to meet some people. I wonder if we should organise a mini doa meetup or something? >\\\<°

Edit: Also can't decide which doll(s?) to bring qwq

    20. The floor plan is up. It looks huge! I’ve made a little carrier for my doll, because he’s 70cm and I have joint problems. I don’t want to carry him in my arms all day. Hopefully it’ll all work!

    21. @Spuggey -- Wow, you're going to be carrying a 70cm? That's impressive!

DoA Meet -- if anyone wants to do that, maybe post it here and hopefully people will see it. I'm not familiar enough with the site to do that. There doesn't have to be just one, either...

Does it seem like there are additions to the vendors? I don't remember all of them being posted before. Very exciting, though. (And more danger to my bank account!)

French speaking-- It sounds as if people will be helpful to those of us who aren't fluent. I've studied beginning French, but a LONG time ago... and I think my accent must be atrocious because even saying simple words I have gotten stared at with incomprehension! So I'm not really thinking my baby-speak will be of any use at all.

I am picking up dolls at L-Doll, so I don't know if I'll bring a doll. Maybe a tiny! :sweat

    22. Ha, yes! I’ve made a little baby carrier style harness for him though, so he’s hands free! I shouldn’t pic favourites but I really want to take him. My mum is coming with me & wants to take a doll, I’m trying to encourage her to take one of the 30cm boys.

I’m hoping there’ll be some people around to translate or that a few speak English, as I doubt my secondary school French will get me very far...

On another note... just got my boarding passes! Very excited now!

    23. I will come with my Aggretsuko doll ! :D please come to said hi ! I will have a quick cosplay of Ton (the pig) to go with Retsuko :mwahaha I flying this Friday to France to spend some time there^^

So shoul we try to see each other on Saturday night for a diner ?

    24. Hi everyone! I just bought my ticket, this will be my first BJD convention. I can't wait! :D Although I'm a little stressed tbh ^^' I will come with one of my SD (either my Switch Ryun:R or my Crobi Heena).

It would be a pleasure to have diner with you guys on Saturday night!
Also I'm sure a lot of people there will be able to understand English. In any case, I'll be happy to help :)
I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

    25. I would love to join for a saturday night diner :D

    26. Is there a good place for dinner that would be able to accommodate a large group? Anyone know?

    27. So, I finally managed to get a day off at work, I bought the tickets and reserved a hotel, so finally LDoll here I come. :D
Oh, and I'd love to join the DoA meet you guys ^___^!

Okay, so I guess I'll give some more advice for first time visitors. It's good to have cash with you. Reason is: usually only the professional sellers will accept payments by card, but not even all of them will. There is an ATM just outside the convention hall, but it usually ends up being emptied by Saturday noon the latest. (Haha, guess why.) Many sellers will also offer you to pay them via Paypal if they do have an account, however that requires that you do have a smartphone with you and a proper connection. There is no free wifi at the con itself.

Lyon has lots and lots of restaurants, especially in the older part of the city, however, most of them cannot accommodate larger groups, well, at least not without prior reservation. (Also be prepared that the waiters and the staff at those restaurants will usually not speak a single word English.) And to our big surprise everyone in this city seems to be out for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. Last time our group found a nice Chinese restaurant where they had a larger table available. So maybe, maybe this could be an option, depending on how large the group will be?!

    28. Thanks for the advice, @Sharkyra ! --I did suspect that the ATM closest to convention hall might run low quickly, but it's good to know.

And yes... finding a restaurant for a group will be difficult!

    29. Hi!
some people ask me that if i can to go to lyon. but i dont know how much are the ticket to into the event and where i can buy it.
Is hard to me go to lyon because my city is too bad connected, but it would make me so happy can to go.
Can someone help me ? i need to know how many are the tikets and where i can buy it <3
      Thanks you!

    30. Is 10€ on Saturday and 8€ on sunday. You can buy them online on the Ldoll fetical website or at the gate of the festival. Is not limited place :)

And yes, like Sharkyra say: take cash with you before. Forgot the ATM machine :/ always empty

    31. a lot of thanks for your quicly reply!
I hope can to go. it is one of my wishes

    32. Your very welcome ^^ yeah, come if you can is such a nice and friendly experience ! :)

    33. One week guys! I'm so excited!

    34. I’m in Paris already! It’s so far to fly, we are doing some great sight-seeing first!

    35. fairygirl about going out for diner. Somebody told about that from the German community ... they planned a meet up for diner als well. So then- I will be there as well with my booth "Dresscode Resin" and I would love to meet some people there as well

and going out for diner ... yeah

    36. Great! I hope we can get a group together for dinner on Saturday. I think Ldoll sales room closes at 7pm on Saturday? Maybe we could meet by the main entrance to the sales room at that time. Perhaps one of the nearby hotels where people are staying has a restaurant? I'm at the Hotel Mercure that was one of the options listed on the ldoll site.

I just looked at the floor plan. The main entrance is marked by a red arrow near the washrooms. We could meet there at the closing time on Saturday, if people think that's a good idea...

    37. Yayyy, not long now! :XD:

    38. Me and my family have allready arrived in Lyon. First a few days of family holiday and then Ldoll on saturday. Sadly i won't be attending on sunday since we are flying back that day because the kids have to be back in school on monday.

    39. I might be able to come to dinner on Saturday! (I’m travelling with family so might have to go with other plans) but I’d like to. Currently still finishing my doll’s outfit!

    40. Is it any possibility go to Lyon from Paris 26.10.18 after 19.00? Only train that suits is sold out((

    41. I’m getting excited & doing last minute outfit prep! I hate sewing leather but happy with the results!

    42. I'm pretty sure that there is more than one train from Paris to Lyon in that evening. Maybe you were just looking for the fast connections? You could also travel by regional trains. And there is also a bus, I think it's called Ouibus or something like that. It's the cheapest option I think.

And on another note, I'm getting excited as well. Will be leaving tomorrow for Lyon and I hope that I'll be there on time.

    43. I’m flying out tomorrow morning!

    44. The dolls are in the rucksack! Teo fits fine, Harry just about fits. But I’m just scared about getting them through the airport & flight unharmed!

    45. That's why I decided that I won't bring any dolls along this time. Just too much hassle and worries.
Also I just looked up the weather predictions and they are saying that we can expect rain on Saturday and Sunday, so I'll better also bring my folding umbrella with me.

    46. This will be my first time meeting other bjd owners. I can’t resist having them with me! It’s a chance to talk about dolls with people who understand!

Thanks for the weather tip off! I’ll have my waterproof jacket and boots & my hotel is very near by so hopefully it’ll be okay! :whee:

      See you guys in Lyon!

    47. just finished packing and today after work I will hurry to the airport and hopefully arrive at Lyon this evening! I am so excited, although I have no clue what to do all on my own except from attending Ldoll XD. Oh my god, I have never travelled on my own like this, just now I feel a bit like i lost my mind or something .
My friends didn't even believe me when I told them I would just fly to france to go to some "weird doll-event". I guess there always is a first time. See you guys! Btw, is anybody else staying at a hostel?

    48. I’m so excited I can’t sleep tonight xD is 5.33 am and I ‘m taking a bus for Lyon in few hours. 8 h in a bus T-T

    49. I'm so excited to leave for Lyon today!! I probably wouldn't sleep at all tonight. SO MUCH EXCITEMENT!!!

    50. Currently stuck in a car for 8 hrs xD
Trying to figure out how to put a weird certificate sticker on the inside of our car. The letter itself is in English but the instructions are entirely in French... xD
I am so nervous and excited!

    51. Just sitting at the airport and waiting for bording. I am so nervous... Time to find out how to get from the airport to the hostel:lol:

    52. Well, having missed the turning for the airport, then had to empty my bag at security, then a delay... I made it to Lyon. The woman at airport security was fascinated by my doll, and asked his name! XD

    53. Heh ... cool that they liked your doll!

We are at the Ibis Styles... but going to bed early so we can get to L-Doll in good time tomorrow morning!

    54. I’m at ibis styles too... right by the exhibition hall. Also went to bed pretty early though, having left London at 5am!

    55. Agh I’m exhausted already!!!

    56. So, how was the first day? I admit that I spent way too much money , but I feel that it was worth it.

      PS also staying at Ibis.

    57. Feet hurt.. going back to ibis to collapse! Don’t wait for us for dinner... we may never emerge again!!! (Spent too much money— have no euro left!)

    58. Me too! Okay on the money front, but knackered! People were really nice, though!

    59. You have better will-power than I do! Running out of Euro is the only thing saving me from an empty bank account !!! (Although we plan to hit an atm tomorrow...!)
