LA Volks Tea Party on 8-5-2006

Jun 25, 2006

1. We left right after bingo. My mom was waiting ^^; I was wearing a... brown outfit XD Brown top, brown skirt. And I was with my 'lil sister all day - she was wearing mostly pink :'D And we had an F-09 and a Manabu.

We didn't socialize much since Shanyn is shy ^^

And congrats on the F-28! 8D He's so handsome! Good luck bonding with him :3

2. I had a fantastic time, even thought I'm reeling from the shock of getting my named called for a One-Off, and the corresponding hole in my bank account (my credit card company even denied the payment on one of my cards because of strict anti-fraud rules--aaagh!). And then I forgot my other credit card after paying because I was still so light-headed! I really thought I wouldn't have a chance, even though there were a ton of one-offs--28 or 29, I think, plus the Charity Auction Madoka...

All the dolls were so lovely! I really can't afford getting another one, but they were just too, too tempting and all my friends are horrible enablers and wouldn't tie my hands, so I was FORCED to make my request for one! But I was hoping fate would stop me from doing something foolish by not picking my name!!! I was about to hyper-ventilate in disbelief when my name was called for the second doll!!! I am really going to have to work hard and sell some stuff to make up for it, but hey-- I always wanted a Shiro, and they were so hard to find when I first started looking! And any spending inhibitions I might have had have gone totally out the window since falling in love with these wonderful dolls! *_*

I have the one at the top of this picture:

I was planning on saving up for one of the elf-eared FCS dolls next year, but now I'm going to have to postpone THAT for a while!!! But I'm very fortunately to be able to have had a chance at the one-offs. I came as Mercy and Wolfemeister's guest since I missed the sign-up period, and decided to come only a few days ago. Wow.

The weather was wonderful. I got a bit sun-burnt, too! The food was good and filling, everyone was friendly. The dolls were gorgeous!!! All the One-Offs, the Olivias and Yukinojos on display, the FCS fairies/elves on display... *sigh* The mansion is lovely. I had a great time talking with old friends. I lived through the grueling excitement of the Bingo. They were running the Bonding Ceremony for a few lucky people, and lots of doll fixinging/restringing for people. They gave out special FDQ issues on the NY Dollpa at the beginning and at the end they gave everyone packages of incense and a present (silver and rhinestone doll necklace in mine). I had a great time. I love my new boy. I'm still moaning about my empty bank account. But I had a GREAT time!!! :D

3. Congrats, April!! :DD I will moan with you about the bank accounts though :O I might have to wipe my savings ._.

4. Savings? What savings??? *_*

But hey, who needs savings? :sweat

Congrats to you, too! :sumomo: (i've been dying to use that smilie!)

5. OH GOOD, we're all broke! HAHA Credit cards are of the devil, aren't they? XD

6. My dad is pissed at me now XD; But eh. I love Mr. F-05, so nyaaah, it's worth it!

7. I was working in the cloakroom, so I know I met some of you :) And I won the One-Off Toppi! I couldn't believe it. I join in the people staring at the gaping holes in their savings. At least I won't have to pay of my CC bill for a month...

8. Thank you again, Myrtle, for the lift to the airport and the lovely conversation. It was great to meet and see so many sweet people, but it was especially nice to be able to have time to really talk in depth to a few. :)

I think that just about everyone could tell that I had a fabulous time, as evidenced by the goofy grin I had on my face the whole time. With high points such as Jun's omukae and winning my dream girl, but also all the other wonderful things like the delicious food, sweet staff, fun doll people, beautiful dolls and nice gifts, this was right up there as one of the happiest days of my life. Thank you so much, Volks! :D

9. *high fives Lady Brick* I remember you! XD And your giddiness :D

10. Thank you Songblade, and congrats to you too ^_^

11. Come on I wanna hear about the LA Dolpha! A bonding Ceremony! A Zillion one-offs! where can I read about all these shenanigans!

12. I was happy to be able to attend the Tea Party - wouldnt have been possible without you. Thanks Myrtle *hugs*

The Party was so wonderful and i was happy for all the people who won the One Offs! On that note, i hope you will post tons of pictures of your new Boy Celebare :) He is so cute :3
It was so much fun and the food was delicious (the strawberry-cheesecake *_*) My Boy had a chance to go to the Doctor so he can stand and sit and hold poses now! The Bingo WAs nervwrecking and i even won some Wigs for Misha. Kind of bad for him because one of the Wigs has Pigtails so he sits here now and looks distressed because i turned him into a Girl *gg*

13. The party really was a lot of fun. I can't wait till the next one. It was so relaxed and there was so much food! o_o

I almost entered for a one off.. The little girl in the black dress who was in the display case behind glass... She wasn't even that expensive, but I decided against it for my bank accounts sake. I'm dead certain that if I'd entered I would have won, just so that the universe could laugh at me as I tried to figure out how on earth I'd pay for her. lol

There wern't as many people as I was expecting either. It was really nice and the weather was beautiful.

14. Zillions of one-offs! XD There was so much expensive resin in the room that I nearly nosebled! And everyone was so polite and friendly... the staff was awesome. And the food... OHMYGOD, that fruit! The fruit was so delicious T__T Bingo was fun - every time someone won postcards, everyone laughed. XD

http://host440.ipowerweb.com/~hellmuse/bakubaku/Roo/Teaparty06/HPIM1435.JPG <-- and that tall cute guy in the silver wig... is my biggest reason for having a killer time at the tea ;D

15. oops!

threads were consolidated

please ignore!!!

16. The Tea Party was SO FUN. Everyone was so sweet. Shigeta-san and Mikey were so nice - Shigeta-san is hilarious XD;. We came in and looked at the gorgeous one-offs, then you could see the stunning Madoka that was for the charity auction. Yummy snacks were found in the kitchen, then we went out to the patio and socialized. xD You could also go watch the Omukae ceremonies. The winners of the one-offs were announced, then we played Bingo.

eeeeee! I won a Sei-Tenshi ^_____^

17. Hi Mrae!

Big congrats on winning a Sei-Tenshi!!!! :sumomo: They are just the cutest, most special little angels! You must be jumping for joy! Please join the rest of us on the "Cloud Nine" thread the Romancedinthepast created, descrbe your angel, and post pictures soon! :D

18. This is the girl my mom (and I lol) won. She's so beautiful in person, photos don't do her justice.

19. Lauryn, your girl is gorgeous! Is she a SD Nana? Congratulations?

20. Yea she is a Snow Sweet Dreams Nana. My mom was the lucky one to win her though I picked her out lol. She is so much prettier in person. I wish I had some sort of lighting equipment to bring out her features. SD Nana has always been a dream of mine but could never justify spending $1500 from Y!J for one nude and not pureskin so we were EXTREMELY thrilled XD

21. It was awesome meeting you all! I really need to hit the DoA forums more often.

I was one of the staffers wearing the nametag that said 'Kris' on it so hopefully I talked to some of you. I had a lot of fun. Haha. It was great looking at all the one-offs. Bailey, Missy, and I had fun picking out which one-off we would put in a lottery for if we could have. I would have gone for the F-16 Sun Light boy with that fiery red hair. So hot. Haha. Congrats to whomever got him though. I wanna see pictures!

22. I had a wonderful time at the party. So many nice people I met, Lots of great food and tons of one-offs. I can't wait to go to the next one. I was so happy to win a one-off. This was my first volks party and it was great. I hope to see peoples pictures of the party also.

23. i wanna know too! what did others get with their goodie bag?

24. Eep! Double post. ^^;

25. *collapses in chair* Gah, nine hours in a car today... XD Six as passenger, three as driver when I got back to my own car... XD;;; So tired!

Hahaha, I took a zillion pictures at the tea party... Of my own doll. XD;;; Beautiful resin lovelies everywhere in sight, and pictures of Ephram outnumber everything else nearly three to one... XD;;; I couldn't help it, he just demanded to be photographed that day! XD It was during the Omukae ceremonies and I guess that music just put me in a sentimental mood... ^^ I didn't get a chance to sign up to do one. T_T Though, I hardly need one with Ephram at least. ^^ I watched the last couple of them, and they were so beautiful. I wanted to cry!

I had a ton of fun, although I wasn't very social since I tend to be a little shy in real life... ^_^;;; Mostly I wandered around and dreamed. Hehe, fortunately I couldn't budget for any of the one-offs, so I was safe. XD Though the two I really liked were the F-05 boy and the Tsukasa, so it's just as well - The F-05 apparently has a lovely owner, and I'm sure lots of people put in for the Tsukasa! XD Ahh, and my friend Jen got the Sweet Dreams Lucas! Hehe, I was waiting for the salon when he got called and I got so excited for her they asked me if I'd won one... ^_^;;; I missed almost all of the announcements for them except that one since I heard 'Lucas' and I knew my friend had put in for him... ^_^;

I barely ate anything, I was too excited and too busy wandering. XD Ahh, that F-31 is dangerous. X3 And the #2 ears are awesome! Except none of the dolls at the party had them and you couldn't take pictures in the store where they did have a doll with them... ^_^;

I think my favourite doll, though, was the Yukinojo in his default outfit in the room with the new FCS heads, along with another Yukinojo and three Olivias(Lucky boys!). (Remus, this is another Yukinojo, and another, and someone else has one over here, and... XD ) He had such a delicate, beautiful faceup! So pretty. ;o;

Another bingo non-winner here. XD;;; I only got one reach. ^^;

Olivia's leg changing is really really cool! I got to change one of her legs. ^^ I got a little confused though putting the jointed one on... ^^; I had trouble putting the gloves on since Mikey handed me the ones she'd been wearing and my hands are a lot bigger than hers... ^_^;

Erk, I realized later that I never actually put my nametag ON... ^_^; So nobody would have recognized my name, obviously. I'm not hard to identify, though - I was the Tsukasa cosplayer. ^^; It was a lot of fun making the accessories, especially the visor. XD And it was really fun wearing it too. ^^ The people from Volks especially seemed to like it. ^^ I had gotten a wig but we were in a rush due to a hotel room snafu and I didn't have time to put it on properly so I just left my hair the way it was... ^_^;

Ack, I just realised that in the one good picture I have of me wearing it I've lost my collar... ^^; (I have it in the bad one! XD; )

Everyone from Volks was really nice and really friendly and I had a great time!

I got a really cute necklace that Alisa's wearing now. ^^ Pearls with a silver crown pendant. It's really adorable. ^^

Ahaaha, and that pesky little sunlight F-09 boy ruined me... He was at the store yesterday, too, the little minx. XD Hahaha, I had planned on a Dollfie Dream at worst, but... Holding Ephram next to him combined with playing with a MSD boy someone had brought... Well, yesterday morning found us at the store early on waiting to get numbers. XD Except my friends had to wait forever for me... ^^; When they started handing out numbers I had been down at the back of the line talking to the people who had just arrived and looking at their doll, so I didn't get a number! >_<;;; Fortunately one of my friends explained to the guy who had passed them out that I had been with them, and he went and got me one so I at least had the lowest number I could get at that point. ^_^;;; But the two in my group who were doing FCS were 12 and 13, and I was 21, so they had to wait a couple of hours. XD;;; I got so nervous waiting I was shaking. XD;;; I ended up having Bailey doing it with me, and she was really great and got me calmed down so I could think! XD So I'm now waiting for a little whiteskin MSD F-13 boy... Whoops! Hahaha, I already bought him an outfit and I won't have him until November... ^^; Doing FCS was really really fun! I was surprised at my own eye choice though, since the colour had always looked so different in the photos I'd seen than it does in real life!

Annnd I'll shut up now because I could go on about how great it all was and how much fun I had and how nice everyone I met was until doomsday. Now to sort through photos!

26. OMG I just arrived home, I am exhausted but excited, I had a wonderful time, so many beautiful dolls and great people all over the place.
I took hundreds of pictures I will upload then later.
I didn't win any one of the one offs, but is ok at least I didn’t win the postcards again!!

I ordered a sunlight f16 boy and a new white skin f29 elf girl. I hope they get the makeup the wait I wanted.
The family is so nice and everyone was so funny calling me pony....Hi pony... bye pony,..what you got pony...it really made me laugh.

It was nice to see some people from the NY event as well. I am really bad with names but I still remember some. Is so funny how you recognize the doll from the forum and then you meet the owner.

I am really tired, first the NY event then I came home for a few days and back to LA. My flight was so long…but I am finally home.
Now I have to wait until November for my dolls…oh well. I guess I will get Olivia first.

Geri

27. It was great meeting both of you, Ian-KunX and Ponygery! As I told Ian-KunX, I always picture people as looking like their avatars, so I expected to see a little elf and a winged boy. ^^;;; It's so nice to now have real faces to go along with the names!

28. You are so sweet Kelly, congratulations for your one off doll.

Geri

29. Hmm..where to begin.

Lovely time and a lovely location to be sure. My sweetie and I each had our dolls...if you saw the little Gothy girl with her pet alligator, that would have been Chiara (it seems that she got a few surprised responses for Squeaky, including from Mikey, if I recall correctly), and I was with him most of the time dressed....well, similiarly to Annabel (she was wearing a Yuni outfit).

We tried for one of the one-offs, but didn't get it, which might have been for the better ;) Also, we had about five near-Bingos between the two of us by the end. SOOOOO close! I think it's investment luck for next time ;)

I have pictures, though not probably as many as I would have liked, mostly of the one-offs, I think, which so many others have gotten.

Sweetie and I ended up driving back to SF on Saturday night...which I admit might have been for the better, as we had all day Sunday to recover from both red-eye drives. We're still a bit tired today, but functional :)

30. *baps the double-post!*

31. Hi Geri!

I'm anxious to see your pictures! And I'm sorry you didn't get BINGO this time. :( Nuts...I had my fingers crossed that our table luck would carry over to the West Coast for you. But I can't wait to hear and see more about the FCS dolls you ordered, and congrats on getting Olivia too! I wish my camera hadn't been giving me a hard time in NYC so that I could've taken some pictures of our dolls together...oh well, next time! :)

Hi Ian-KunX!

Thanks for your great write-up on the LA event! I almost felt as if I'd been there with you! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures too! And congrats on your FCS doll too!

Hugs, Juli DC :daisy

32. I'm glad everyone made it home without incident! I'm looking forward to all the pictures!

33. ^.^ yay! I'm back. Well I drove home yesterday but to tired to post *is still sleepy*
The Tea Party was so fun but I didnt bring my camera ;_; so my mom took all the pics, so basicly I have a ton of pics of my dolls and the One Offs she liked ^.^;;; but they are good pics! As planed I brought all of my dolls. I got Daisuke tightened! Yay! He can stand and sit *is so happy* Momoko stole Dai's Magical Michael outfit so I was the person with the Magical Megu. I didnt have any luck with the Bingo game and the One Offs but I did afterwards (I went to Mitsuwa) ah by the way I was the one with the Hello Kitty skirt.

34. Ok Juli, pictures are up on my site, go to the events section but please be patience, they are lots of pictures and it may take a while to load. Click on the little thumbnails.

Enjoy

Geri

35. Well I finally got to use the internet after like 2 days... just read through this whole thing..

It was fun meeting everyone!! All the people at my table were really nice and I had a great time with you guys. Congrads to everyone who won one-offs and other great prizes! I, myself, got the slap in the face that is winning post cards but.. oh well ^^ It was still lots of fun!

And don't worry about asking questions SongBlade.. most people like to help and share their BJD knowledge.. congrads on your gorgeous one-off and it was great meeting you.. too bad for the both of us they never called 24 :P

Kellyhime..it was great watching the ceremony for your Kikyou! And thanks for chipping in for gas, hope your panel went well! ^_^

Lizzegirle: Sorry you didn't get your Liz but hope you had a great time anyway!

ponygery: Now I know how it feels to win the post cards too :/ But glad you got to order some dolls at the store the next day :)

Myrtle: Thanks for riding with us, sorry we took so long at the grocery store!

It was fun hanging out at the meet-up afterwards! Can't wait to see everyone again!

-Katie

36. I had a great time! I was pretty anti-social as is my way, but I had fun and I got to bring my sweetie with me this time (guy in black kilt) which was super great.
Big thanks to Volks for putting on these events to us (I'll be sending a card... maybe my new postcard set...).
Here are some pics on my flickr. If you have any details on the one-off please post a comment in my flickr.

-Nadja

37. Nadja - I remember your boyfriend! XDD Black kilt guy! I wanted to take pictures of the dolls on the table behind him - but I didn't think they were his... :'D So I didn't know who to ask.

Gah, I felt so bad asking to get my one-off early so I could leave >__>; They were so nice about it, though! And I avoided the wrath of my mother :'D

38. It was great meeting you too, Katie! Haha I forgot your username here, but I remembered your real name ;)

39. I was sitting right behind you during Bingo then. ^^ One of the girls you were with seemed pretty worried about mom freaking out. XD

40. You weren't the cute girl in the black outfit, were you? I noticed your name tag, but didn't put it together with your DoA name. I'm sorry that we missed speaking with each other!

41. I just want to send a small note to re-iterate how wonderful it was seeing so many of you at the Volks Tea. Kellyhime and Vicki- congrats on being the first ladies of the American welcoming ceremony ;). I wish I could have watched but I was geting my rengemaru adjusted at the time. I know Tim got a few pics of Kelly and her boy and I think even a few seconds of video.

As usual the Shigeta's were the most gracious hosts ever and it is always a pleasure to see Shino who strikes me as more beautiful every year. Of course my luck was as terrible as always, but my hubby Timmy managed to win a one off- so I considered myself lucky. No luck at Bingo-even tho Tim had 5 or so Reach!

It was great to see Lizziegirl who looked fabulous and Hamsterlolly and I had a great time shopping at Mitsuwa and Ross on Sunday. I will Miss you Lydia, i hope you are home safely!

In any case, I had a fabulous time. I know I spoke to more of you from DOA that I just haven't put screennames with faces yet. Just for reference, I was the preggie one and the post card heckler was my hubby Timmy (dont worry I kicked him every time he teased). Congrats to all the one off, auction and Bingo winners!
and hugs to all.
Anna M.

42. Oh you had the beautiful Yori at our table! My mom loved her outfit! Congrats to your husband on the one off! Our table was pretty lucky! :D

43. I loved my welcoming ceramony. I cried through Kelly's, Vicki's, Nathankatt's and then through mine. Geez, I hate being a stupid woman with stupid emotions. >.<

If anyone has any pictures of my welcoming ceramony, can I please have them? My camera filled up before mine started.

44. I asked Am to take some and she took tons, so hopefully she will send them. I have a couple too that I will send you tomorrow. I'm so sorry that I wasn't able to get more!:(

45. Was your one off that wonderful #25 F-05? He put me over the top and I could no longer resist ordering the lovely F-05 head. Mine will be a girl, but yours was absolutely my inspiration.

I desperately wanted Mikey's School Head but it wasn't to be. So I had to console myself at the FCS counter. Congrats to the winner of that work of art.

It was a great time as everyone has said. My FCS 16 Kazu and I were bonded forever through the Omukae (no idea what the word is - I should be ashamed of myself) ceremony. Very moving and every more special with have Mr Shigeta perform it.

I had great company on the ride down and back and wonderful friends to play with while there. Can't wait until another one but first I need some sleep.

46. I cry very easily at really happy/wonderful moments, so if I saw an Omukae ceremony, I'd definitely be all weepy. :) :sweat

Me: "Oh... *sniff* so beautiful.... *sniffles* I love Volks..." :...( :aheartbea

47. I have to wait to find out if they want to use those photos for FDQ before she can give me any. That's why I asked around. =D

48. Scarletmaeve: It was nice meeting you at the tea and the Volks store the next day... thank you for the wig advice ^^

49. Oh goodness Lizzie, I'm sorry I missed your Omukae. I didn't even know they did so many and I think Timmy only got pics of the first one... ugh! I guess I should Say Congratulations to all of you who are the first Ladies and Gentlemen of American Omukae. That is so very special!

Aww Lauryn. Yep that was me. It was a pleasure chatting with you and your mom. The lady who made the outfit, I looked for her card, was named Charie Wilson. She used to sell on e-bay, but I cant seem to find her e-mail address or her e-bay id...I was hoping I could find at least a website for you. anyone have her current info? And you're right our table was pretty lucky. Hopefully we can pick the "Lucky" table every year ;)

I found her!!! Here's her e-bay Id...http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcyw159QQhtZ-1

Ladybrick, it was a pleasure talking to you and helping you with your lovely Toppi. I think you made the perfect wig choice. She is just so adorable! After much indecision, I finally picked the pig tail braids. When I came home and freed my one off Kaede from her box, believe it or not I had purchased the same wig! Doesn't it figure, it took me forever to decide too. I hope to chat with you soon.

Hugs,
Anna M.

50. Anna it was so good to see you and your hubby again. You look wonderful. Looking forward to baby news.

Lizzie I will check my camera to see if I have any pics of your ceremony. I know I saw some but I think it was on Am's camera. I was still doing my weepy thing during your ceremony and forgot about my camera.

I'm finally getting to the groups and email and really reflecting on the weekend. It was the best!!!! Thanks to everyone for sharing their love of the dolls and the gift of being able to play no matter how old we are.

Most of all, THANK YOU to the Shigeta family. Truly the kindest, most generous, sincere family I have had the honor to meet.

51. I had a great time at the party, seeing all the beautiful dolls, meeting new people and catching up old friends again (Hi, Mary and Hyla!). I'm afraid I've forgotten most peoples' names, and I expect you've forgotten mine :).

The doll doctors were AMAZING. I had the opportunity to have Gamine, my Nono 13 retensioned, and she's like a brand new doll - she STANDS on her own. They were able to do my Yo-SD Piccolo Eldon the next day, and he can stand on one foot again. I fell in love with them all over again!

We just got home tonight so it'll take a couple of days to see all your fantastic pictures and go through the pictures on my camera!

Marcia.

52. for Cammy

because I keep seeing your Icon, and heck, everyone is taking about the one-offs, but there were a couple other special dolls from Volks~

http://static.flickr.com/98/211646134_21762019bc.jpg

keep dreaming your dream...

and ps, the gift bags were lovely, Volks and the Shigetas really outdid themselves, I have absolutely no complaints!

53. Awwww!!!! :D That's so sweet of you!! :chibi Thank you very much! :daisy

If I ever make it to a Tea Party, I'll have to put my icon on my name tag so people will recognize me. :)

Thanks again! :aangel:

54. waaah, I had a really lovely time. I wish in a way that I'd stayed at the hotel though so that I could have more time visiting with people. And even the dinners I went to, you know, with restaurants, you can only really talk to the 4 people you are closest to! So I regret not getting to talk to people more!

I have to say that seeing Yukinojo and Olivia in different outfits, etc, made me fall in love with them again! I really liked the H. Naoto versions of them and the Yukinojo with glasses in the Volks store! yum!
It was really neat to see how Olivia's lower legs and neck worked.

my fave one offs were the sweet dream lucas and the snow F22(kun). Boy they were gorgeous. :) I dunno though, I thought the one off selection this year was particularly pretty!!

it was so cool that they did omukae, I hope they do more of them in the future. I really want to do one again and I wasn't fast enough on the draw this time! :)

everyone was really friendly, I'm so grateful! :) It sounds like pretty much everyone had a great time too!

my kids this weekend:

what did people get in their gift bag from Volks? It looked like the jewelry was random! I got an emerald ring, but my friend Judy got a crown earring! :) cute!

55. Congrats to all of you who got to have the Omukae ceremony performed by Mr. Shigeta himself. What an honor. Wish I had been there to share in your joy! Glad you all had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

56. I got a little gift bag too... I got a garnet-ish ring, which is beautiful but too big for my kids. Guess I'll just have to get an F-31 so I have someone to wear such a fine piece of jewelry ^_~

57. Aimee - I got a beautiful, single "diamond" necklace that Mieko (Liz) instantly claimed. The gifts were especially generous this year, between the jewelry and the adorable incense set that I don't know if I will ever be able to bring myself to use.

purplekaren - It was such a joy to have an omukae for my boy. I truly do feel even closer to him now. The Shigetas were so kind and sweet through the whole thing and it really was an honor having Shigeta-san perform them. I'm surprised that I didn't cry through it, but it hit me hard afterwards.:sweat

58. Kellyhime - did you notice a change in your kids face after the ceremony. I sat with Shino afterwards and we both thought my boy looked different. I know it might sound silly, but he really did.

59. I was too emotionally distracted afterwards to notice much of anything.*_* However, now that I look at him -- he's sitting right above me on the computer -- he does look a bit more angelic, if that's possible. :aangel:
