LA Volks Tea Party on 8-5-2006

I have a question is everyone renting a car or taking a taxi from the Embassy suites to the mansion?
I am wondering because I don't know if they have enough parking (if I rent a car) or if I can call a taxi at the end of the event.

Ok to answer your questions.

Payment: they received was cash and credit card. I don't think they accepted checks. I paid with credit card.

Parking: It's best to carpool, but I saw plenty of street parking. They probably just don't want to upset their neighbors and the rental company.

From Embassy Suites to Mansion: I am riding with Vicki. We should set up a carpool ride thread to figure this out. If you guys end up taking a taxi, it might be better to rent a van or a shuttle to take a bunch of people.

Ohmygod, this is terrible XD I underestimated the amount of money I'd make between now and the tea party. I can not buy myself a 1,000$ doll. I can not buy myself a 1,000$ doll...

If you bring a guest, does the guest also get to enter into the lotto for the one-offs, or do you just get one lotto entry per invitation, per doll?

 

The guest cannot enter for the one-offs. Just the invited person.

SWEET. I kept repeating the NO-BUY-DOLLIE mantra to myself but now that sunlight's extended to Oct I'm so going to get an FCS ;-;

 

Speaking of buying dolls, does anyone know where I can find current info about buying FCS at the L.A. store? I did a search in the Buying Dolls section but couldn't find what I needed. Of course that could be because I'm not using the right combo of words for the search.

Since I have no idea if I'll every get back out to L.A. this maybe my only chance to get one in person. So if someone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. Or better yet walk me through it so I know what to do. Oh and since I'm a "heathen" English would be best.

XD so close! Also I haven't found a place close to the mansion that serves breakfast. -_-

Can't wait!!! Unfortunately the day after I'll be flying off from LA for a few weeks too, so loadsa packing to do O_O

 

I fly out on Tuesday and I haven't packed or anything. *lol* I'm still trying to figure out what Mina and Ronin will wear, and how I'm going to get them on the plane with me.

 

I was wondering about that too.. I don't want my dolls to get damaged on the plane or going through security so I'm not sure what to do. I don't know if I want to physically hold both of them in a small seat on a crowded plane but I'm afraid of them getting damaged in a suit case :/

 

If you don't have one of those Dollmore carry-on type double bags, then I recommend wrapping them really well in some clothes and put them in your backpack. This way they are well protected and with you at all times.

You might want to check out this thread for ideas on how to pack your dolls safely.

I use a carry on backpack, use some of the pillows that come with the dolls to pad it further, and then wrap the dolls well to protect them. My philosophy is to take fewer dolls and pack the ones I'm bringing better!

regarding the photographs in the mansion, last year everything was downstairs, but then I don't think there was really any furniture in the place except for the teaparty. I don't remember anyone going upstairs, so I am going to assume that the upstairs will be off limits this time also.

I went upstairs and took a few pics - I asked Mr Shigeta and he said it was ok. Only one door was unlocked and there was nothing in that particular room if I recall - the staircase and upper balcony railing made a good backdrop for my pics!
Someone else here asked about the price of one-offs, and they seem to be all over the place! Last year I remember seeing the top prices go to about $1350-1400 but in New York, they ranged from $860 - $1072!!!! They were generally cheaper for some reason, but it may have had to do with who dressed the one-offs. Hope that helps - Alex

 

Those boys are the new FCS if I'm not wrong... at least that's what it looks like when Volks blogged about it ^^
Volks mentioned there will be the unveiling of the new FCS so anything regaring the FCS should be showcased on Aug 5th, if not Aug 6th we'd be able to see them at the store itself

 

Okay, this is totally insane -- which is what happens when I can't sleep at 5am -- but I think that I'm going to try to change the day of my AOD panel and come down to LA for this. Reading about the NY party and thinking about how much I would like to see all of you is just killing me!

I'm wondering if they are sticking to their "invitees put in for One/Offs play bingo only" rule at the LA party since they so did NOT stick to that rule at the New York party. Also wondering if anyone will be placing the special FCS orders for those that can't make it to the LA event. Just curiosity. =^_^=

 

Well, I'm not Kasita, but I can answer your question. FCS stands for Full-Choice System. It means you can order a doll that is completely customized for you. You can pick the head/body/hands/feet/skin tone/eyes/wig/make-up, basically everything. Check out Aimee's page on FCS and Creating Dreams, Cassiel's page on FCS.

I was wondering about that too, since I always hand them out at our meet-ups. I've got a bunch that I could bring along if Volks doesn't provide them. I don't want to miss anyone this time like I did last time.

 

I could design some I suppose. I just don't know how we would get them to everyone!

 

They just hand them out at the door and you put your name on it your self. Mine from last year is still stuck to the dashboard of my husband's car! LOL

s2kitty - Volks did mention that the FCS will be introduced that day but I think the ordering can only be done at the store the next day? I'm not too sure though, volks is always coming up with so many surprises ^^

I have a question!!!...again. ^.^; I'm just full of them. If you dont want a FCS on Sunday do you still have to wait in line to go into the store? Because neither my mom and I want a FCS but we still want to shop at the store.

Yes, you have to wait in line to get in the store. You have to wait for your number to be called before you can do your FCS, it's not the same thing. One line though.

s2kitty: I doubt anyone at this point would be taking an order for FCS for Sunday - There isn't really time to get the money transferred from Paypal to a bank account, nor time for a money order. Plus, since they'll only be able to do so many FCS on that day, I think it would be incredibly rude if someone who really wanted to do it for themselves wasn't able to because someone who was doing it for someone else who wasn't there got a place instead.

Besides, according to the answer Kasita got from Volks, they're doing it through October, so if you can find a friend in LA willing to do it another weekend, that would be much better, yes?

 

I can second that they are doing it until Oct. I also emailed them and got the same answer
