LA Volks Tea Party on 8-5-2006

Jun 25, 2006

    1. You'll have so much fun and it will be one of those rare opportunities to meet people from around the country that normally is only possible at a convention. And all the dolls are gorgeious, the food is yummy and the Volk's people are so sweet! I just hope that the current 100 degree temps won't be prevailant then, otherwise I am sure many of us guests will look at the pool with longing eyes...

    2. Bring yer dollies! Not a prerequisite, of course, but it is so fun to see everyone's dolls, and they had tables set up last time around the pool with plenty of room to set them down. I brought two last time.

The biggest thing I'm worried about is the heat *_* I think I'll be hiding out inside most of the time.

And remember, Cali has a 8+% sales tax, which is considerable when buying such a high ticket item. Still, the one-offs are priced very reasonably considering Volks' usual pricing structure.

    3. The Volks mansion overlooks the ocean and it does not get as hot by the ocean as it does inland or in the valleys around Los Angeles. We are having a heat wave right now and it is predicted to be 88F today in Ranch Palos Verdes. For Aug 5, it is predicted that the high temperature will be around 79F. It may be hot but it won't be baking.

    4. I really hope you are right, cause here in South OC, where I live the temps have been right around 100+ degrees the past couple of weeks and they've issued a heat alert for today...! *_*
I am so spoiled with the 71 degrees that I keep my place at; I just hope we don't have any brown-outs this week...

    5. .. I want to live somewhere where 80F is a heatwave. D: I'm in Texas, it's routinely well over 95F this time of year.

Auugh, wish I could go! My only doll is a LUTS doll anyway, so I probably shouldn't bring him even if I could. XD

    6. Amen to that!

80 degrees, a heatwave!?!?! *snicker* While this summer isn't like the summer of '80 it's still bad enough. Atleast it's not supposed to get up to 100 today.

      --Morgan

    7. Well, around Long Beach, it's about 80-90 degrees. I expect just as much when the Volks party comes.

    8. 80 degrees isn't a heat wave. And it's certainly not that cool here. I don't know the exact temp but I KNOW it's a lot higher than 80.*is in west LA right now*

It's even baking out in santa monica closer to the beach. And it's not just the heat, its HUMID...

    9. This has been an unusually hot summer so far. Here in San Francisco where the median summer temperature is 60 degress, a heat wave of 90+ is considered unbearable. You have to remember also that San Francisco buildings are not equiped with air conditioning because it rarely ever reaches past 70!

    10. It was 116 in Davis yesterday and it I rarely remember it breaking 100 last summer. A lot of air conditioners here have been breaking since they can't handle working as hard as they have to. I suspect the heat is at least partially due to global warming. However the weather predicts the heat to go down some by August 5th.

but anyway.. to stay more on topic.. is there somewhere to park near by the mansion? Do you have to pay to park? I may just take a taxi over if parking is difficult.

    11. There is street parking. You have to remember that this is a house in an actual neighborhood. (As upscale as it may be...)

    12. Everyone remember to bring sunscreen ;3 I may be dressing Roo in long sleeves just so the sun hits his uncoated parts as little as possible... XD I'm not worried about his head (sealed with UV-cut), but I'm in constant fear that one day his hands won't match the rest of his body anymore :'D

    13. I got my invitation last week and I'm planning to bring a guest ^ ^ Since I have only one Volks doll he'll be the one coming with me XD I'm kind of eyeballing the dresscode people are tossing around... I have family in this area so I doubt dressing business casual is a necessity for the neighborhood, but is it a requirement to get in? I'm usually in leathers and metal no matter where I go unless a dresscode is explicitly stated ^ ^;;

    14. There isn't a dresscode explicitly stated anywhere (I've looked XD), but it might be nice to dress up just a little :3 After all, the Volks staff is going out of its way to throw SD owners/fans a party - it'd be respectful, I think, to dress well ^^

    15. I feel like I'm more than capable of putting a formal twist onto what I normally wear but I'm wondering if it's to the staff's taste is all. Someone mentioned wearing a kimono, but would a cyberpunk twist on a kimono be all right @D@?

    16. I really hope it's not going to be too too hot x__x I'm bringing my Hewitt :D My mom I think is bringing her Toppi or Snow F-15 SD girl possibly both.

    17. I got my invite the other day also. I'll be bringing my MSD and my SD 13 boy to the party. I hope its not hot that day, the heat is killing me also, it got to a hundred today. ahhhhh no more heat. I can't wait to go to the party.

    18. X_X I cant decide on who to bring! Does anybody thing bringing 3 SDs and a Yo-SD is to much? Its sorta like all or none :...( because Dai needs to be tightened and Momoko is a given and Hotaru too because they are twins, Yuki is a no brainer because he is so tiny. I dont know what to wear :( I was going to wear my Loli clothes but I wasnt sure if I would look silly being the only one in a ruffly frilly dress.

    19. 1) If you can carry them all somehow then it's not too many. 2) I'll be all frilly too! I plan on wearing the dress I'm making for my class. So I'll be in black and white checkers with frills and a big maroon pettycoat.

    20. Yeah I think I will bring them all! Plus I will be with someone with only one doll, hahaha, so she will carry one of mine! Yay! Another frilly person, I think I might wear Loli then.

    21. Everyone at the last party dressed in dress casual. Things that were seen were skirts, cardigans, dress pants, etc.

I am bringing the one-off cyndy I won last year and her counterpart Heath. I will probably bring my Toppi so that she can be restrung. =D

    22. Question. How many people live out in LA or would be interested in going out to breakfast a few hours before the party? I'm not looking for a huge group. Just wondering if anyones interested.

    23. Sounds like a wonderful idea if you have it like really early in the morning, such as 8 or 9, cause last year Volk's had the most wonderful buffet set up! It was a real surprise, cause everyone expected just a tea party with basic snacks... I really hope they do it again! :)

    24. I have no idea what time i'll be there but breakfast sounds like an awesome idea for people to meet up earlier and get to know each other too ^^
I hope I can go for any before or after meets if I manage to get there ^^

So excited to see you guys too - it'll be my first meet in CA :D

    25. Breakfast would sound nice to me! My mom and I are staying in a hotel friday night (cause we're seeing a show in the area) so we could easily meet up before the party :D

    26. Coolness. How does 8:30AM sound to people?

*wanders off to find out which good places are open that early* Anyone have food requirements? (such as diabetics, or people with alergies)

    27. I'm thinking about being a bit frilly too. :)

    28. my guest and i have food restrictions. i have food allergies and my friend is vegitarian. makes me worry about the buffet at the party

    29. The buffet at the party was very swanky. And I believe vegetarian friendly.

Food allergies, on the other hand, are different, and hard to call on. But the caterers were on hand and I'm sure could answer questions for you!

    30. I don't care what dressy-food-googly-pie anyone lippety doos.

Just everyone get there ok please!

One of last year's lucious offerings!!

Mmmm Volks donuts! But don't touch my doll after eating them!

    31. As a matter of fact, I was too giddy to eat last time! I think I barely had a cracker.

      Had a few cocktails though...

    32. I was too busy gawking, and photographing to eat or drink. But the little bit I tasted was AWESOME.

    33. Oh! I'll try to bring my camera :) I'm up for breakfast, too... hope I can wake up.

Anyone coming from around Pasadena interested in carpooling? I'm worried with everyone coming that parking is going to be murderous... and I don't want to get lost on my way down! :(

    34. I made my reservation today..
I can't wait to go, this weekend to NY and next week to the LA event

      Geri

    35. Can anyone say what the parking was like last time?

    36. I can't make it for breakfast but anyone want to meet up after the Tea? I think it would be fun because we could discuss the Tea, bring non-Volks dolls and maybe show off some of the One-offs for those who win them?

I'm from Nor-Cal though so I don't really know where we could meet-up..just thought it would be a good idea if someone has a suggestion.

    37. Last time we got together to Hometown Buffet. How about Buca di Beppo since they accomodate large parties?

It would be easy to get to from the Volks Mansion:
      http://www.bucadibeppo.com/loc_details.asp?ID=0505

Its just a suggestion anyway. If everyone wants to eat here just let me know in advance and I can give them a call and make a reservation (that way we'll get served faster).

    38. Updates about the party on the LA blog! There's a schedule listed and info about the new FCS. They're going to have sunlight skin available for a limited time, and it looks like those elf-eared boys are part of the new "Fairy Series."

    39. I can't wait, I would love to meet up with people after the party as well.

    40. if anyone knows a meeting place after the party.

    41. I wonder exactly how 'limited time' the sunlight skin is..really wish it was permanent.

    42. Me too. There's no way I could afford my sunlight F-16 right now.

    43. Hometown Buffet sounds good to me :) What does everyone else think? Someones house would also work if anyone in the area wants to.

For some reason the LA blog isn't loading for me :/ Guess I'll have to check the updates later.

    44. Exactly the same her (down to the sunlight F-16). The catch is that I only need a liiiittle bit longer. I have enough for the doll, but I need to get to LA! Ugh. They finally tell us some information, and it's still not enough. Volks how you torture us!

    45. Hometown Buffet didn't work last year because HomeTown usually has a line out the door and doesn't take reservations. I think Buca would be better or some place that will take a reservation.

    46. I'll hang out at a restaurant, though I don't think I'll order much @.@ My doll just about broke me. :( Not in that nice... "I can't quit you" kinda way, either.

    47. I haven't heard of Boca but I'm fine with any resturant really as long as I get directions. ^^;;

About the new FCS dolls it says:

      "10:30 am : Reception starts
Numbered tickets are handed out on a first-come-first-served basis."

So does this mean we need to line up really early? :( I was hoping they would just hand out numbers randomly..which is what I thought they did last time??

    48. Eeepp... I'm hoping to get a more definite date for the "limited time" too O_O
I'll be mailing volks about this, just to see if there's any info that can be shared... if it's uncomfy for them to mention I did say it was alright too :)

So maybe if we're lucky there's more secific dates for this sunlight skin given to us now :)

    49. (post deleted by user for lack of importance and an inability to just remove it entierly)

    50. ^ that's for 6th of Aug though ^^ The day after the event and not on the LA tea party itself. The tea party is from 1:30 pm to 5:00pm and (Admittance begins at 1:00) So breakfast shouldn't be a problem on that day :D

I hope I got the right idea that you're thinking its' on the event day itself though - if not so sorry *blushes*

    51. Should I go ahead and give Buca di Bepo a call and make a reservation then??

I just need an exact number of how many people are attending this? Can I get a show of hands???

Oh and just in case if you're not familiar with Buca. Its an Italian family style restaurant. Restaurant information is here: http://www.bucadibeppo.com/

    52. Hm if it's after the tea party my mom and I probably won't make it (we're going shopping at the Japanese grocer XD). Not sunlight fcs *dies* I hope my mom gets a sunlight girl since I could never afford her with my most recent custom doll bill @_@

    53. I'm not certain either way. It depends on if Vicki wants to go or not. Why don't you count the two of us in and if we can't go, we'll tell ya.

    54. All right!! I'm very jazzed that Volks is offering sunlight skin - now to hope that I 1) am able to get my FCS order placed, and 2) can decide between an F-16 boy and a F-05 girl. Need to get some comfy, breathable cotton dresses to wear... I gots issues with heat of a medical nature, and a big, sweaty chick will not be pretty. At all. Because my boyfriend won't be there to tell me that "you're pretty no matter what" and such, as he will be home in Boston.

I, too, am going to drive 350 miles on the previous weekend for the NYC event. Such decadence!

Wow, there's booze at the Volks party? Uh-oh. I'm a fun drunk. I will try not to embarass anyone, including myself, especially not by trying to push the Shigetas into the pool, especially not with "Any Way You Want It" by Journey playing in the background.

    55. Time limited? That's just awful. I hope it's not just for the day, or there will be a lot of tears over who gets to do FCS. o_o
I want to do my FCS in March next year. I don't think it'll still be going.

    56. I just got my invite (and my sister's invited too)! I am very excited. My sleepaway camp starts that day, and I am sort of ditching the opening ceremony to go. *prays that they dont release any new FCS heads that resemble School Head C or Heath*

    57. It's a residential neighborhood...last year they asked people to rideshare or get dropped off, and let them know if they were bringing cars. I had someone drive me up and drop me off at the mansion.

      Have fun, everyone :)

    58. Question: Are there certain areas in the Mansion that we're not allowed to take pictures of?

    59. I quickly went through all 15 pages of posts, so I might have missed the answer I'm looking for.

What types of payment did Volks accept at the last tea party for the one-offs and auction which I think would be the same this time around? I assume cash, check, and credit cards, but I could be wrong.

My friends and I just want to prepared before we leave for California next week. TIA.

    60. Thank you! I was misunderstanding. *looks embarrassed*

I'll go back to attempting to find breakfast places near palos verdes that are good and wouldn't spazz at doll people.
