LA Volks Tea Party on 8-5-2006

Maybe it would be easier if we only say when something DOES arrive, rather than 'nothing yet' and 'still nothing'...

 

Well that lets us know that others are in the same situation as us.

 

And I must admit, that's nice to know for those of us who can't check our email at the moment

 

I mean, it's OK and all but I would just assume that if somebody doesn't post and say "I got my email" that nobody has gotten it yet. *shrug*

Well I e-mailed Volks asking about when the invitations might get sent out (which in retrospect I probably shouldn't have done...so now I feel kind of bad for wasting their time.) :/ But anyway, they replied with:

"Thank you for your inquiry about the LA Party.

We are currently sending our comfirmation emails to
the guests, so please wait for a moment until it will
delivered to you.


Thank you for your continued support.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the party."

 

Here's hoping that that line means there wasn't a lottery.

 

I was about to send them an email too. We have two weeks to plan a trip!

Ooo, maybe they'll be in by tomorrow? ;__; It's 6:40 here in LA, and their store is closed, so they may be done for the day...? I'm not sure. But I do hope the invitations are sent out tomorrow T__T

Kyaaa! I got the invite! I'm shaking I'm so happy! My internet has been down for most of the day and its only been the second time checking it ^__^
I have a question, when I was applying for it I clicked that I would have 1 guest. It doesnt mention anything about the guest coming too, should I e-mail them about that (I'm the guest and my mom is the...non guest I guess)

 

You might want to check with them. I'm bringing a guest too, and my invitation mentioned that we should come together so it's easier for them to enter the party.

What's the dress code like? ^^; I got a new skirt and top to wear to another event, but was planning on wearing it to the tea party too if it's a bit dressy...

 

I don't think they really specify a dress code but I would guess that you should dress up some. Maybe at least Business casual? Like I wouldn't go wearing jeans and dirty sneakers.. (though I'm sure if you do they're not going to kick you out or anything.)

As far as dressing up is concerned, I would recommend trying to look a step up above casual. Palos Verdes is a really upscale area. I wore a kimono last time. I don't know what to wear at the next meetup! I may just go shopping or something! XD

 

OMG! OMG! OMG! I got an invite!!!! Like Kiss I'm shaking so hard I can barely type. Now the big question is what do I do next? I've never been to California before much less L.A. so I have no clue as to what to do next.

So any and all help and/or suggestions will be gratefully received.

Hehe, well, you might want to get a hotel room close to the mansion, first off ;D How will you be getting to LA?

 

Flying I guess since the drive would be majorly abusive. It would take most of a day just to get across Texas & then what, another day or so for the rest of it.

hm...question for you all...Are we suppose to bring dolls? I have several bjd's but no Volks...i dont want to look like an idiot for not bringing a doll..

 

just a couple of suggestions

1. dress nicely since the President of Volks and his family will be there, but no need to be fancy since the party is in the afternoon and the seating last time was outside and it will most likely be warm so may also want to think of comfort.

2. it's not expected for people to bring dolls, so don't feel out of place if you don't have a Volks dolls. But definitely do not bring any non-Volks bjd dolls, because this is the Volks Owners Appreciation party. It has nothing to do with whether any doll is better than another, just is the polite and proper thing to do. I am sure that after the party people will be getting together and sharing their other dolls.

3. Make sure to get a good map of the area, it's rather confusing, lots of winding roads, very easy to get lost.

4. Cameras were definitely okay last time, so if you got one, go for it!

5. If anyone didn't check off companion on their invite, I would suggest contacting Volks directly to make sure it's okay to bring a companion. There is a limit as to how many people can get in, and they may be checking the companion part at the door, since they requested any companions arrive with the invited guest.

6. The Volks Blog does say there will be One-Offs for sale, they do a drawing and then the winner pays for the doll. And someone will be there to do adjustments for elastic.

7. They do have a cloak room where carrier bags can be left. I suggest putting some kind of identification on your bags since there will be quite a few that look the same.

8. There should be food and drink, it was really lovely last time.

9. I just hope everyone remembers to thank the Volks staff for putting on this party, it's a wonderful gesture towards us collectors. They don't have to do it, but they do, and it's a really nice time!

Well definately don't bring a non-Volks doll to the party...I think Volks has said that specifically about other parties. I thought the party was for Volks doll owners only?

 

No of course i wouldnt bring a doll from another company, thats why i asked

It is not just for Volks doll owners. The blog says for "SD fans". Previous Tea Parties were for Volks owners only and required being on the Super Dollfie Owner's list in order to attend, but as it was not a requirement for this particular event, I see no problem. After all, if you got an invite from Volks that means they think its ok.

 

I dunno..maybe I'm wrong about that. The Grand opening thing was but this might be different. Well you got a ticket, so might as well go, right? ^_^

 

No, one does not need to own a doll to go to this party, if Volks sent you an invite, then you are invited!

 

Heh, I'll probably either get glares or fangirls for what I'm planning to wear... XD;;; (And no, it doesn't involve nudity or scanty clothing. XP)

The Blog did have that you had to meet the 'eligibility requirements', though ...the link didn't work at the time, but I took it as implying that you had to be an SD owner, or at very least, perhaps you had to have made purchases at the Volks store in LA.

*wonders where a dolly clothing night will fit into the next two weeks*

 

I thought you had to have made a purchase at the Volks LA store, as well, so that you'd be in their system. They do have a 'club' of sorts, but it's for people who have made purchases at the LA store. I know when I bought Roo I was in automatically, but the last time I was there, they were asking people to fill out a brief form to be entered into the system.

But I'm sure if you have an invitation, you're welcome to the party They're not going to tell anyone to go away as long as they're holding their invitation confirmation.

I need to find a place to stay & all that stuff so I was wondering which hotels/motels people were staying at. And where that would be in relation to the store & the mansion.

As soon as my friend gets back from his weekend trip & I find out if he's coming with or not, I'll be making the reservations for the trip.

I got my invitation! I'm not sure I erven registered on volksusa.com but I know for sure I have never bought anything from them nor do I own a dollfie (yet)... So I'm not sure in what way I'm "eligible", but I got in ^__^

HouseofIsis: Thanks for the tips! Thankfully I don't have to teach that Saturday so I can dress up a little. A shame that no one will bring non-Volks dolls, I'd dearly love to see a Paris with my own two eyes.

 

I don't know if others are or not, but I'm going to bring some of my Volks dolls. It's hard to decide how many is right to bring though. My boyfriend may also bring his non-Volks boy for after Volks get togethers.
And Mia, you never know, you may end up a Volks owner by the end of the weekend!

Does anyone know the usual price range for the one-off dolls? Are we talking in the thousands for SD/SD13 dolls? T__T; I'm saving like mad just in case I win a ticket to buy one, but it'd be nice to know if I'll even be able to afford them XD

And... how many one-offs do they usually lotto off? :'D

 

I think the price was quoted earlier in this thread? MSD was like $600 if I remember.. SD/SD13 girl $900ish? SD13 boy.. can't remember ^^; but I think it's in here somewhere.

There are also some one-offs you bid on..so I'm sure those go much higher.
