LA Volks Tea Party on 8-5-2006

Jun 25, 2006

    1. So does this mean we can't enter for an invite if we're not registered? :(
I'm not registered, it's just not something I ever worried about, but it would suck if I am excluded due to my ignorance of having to be registered to do any Volks events.

    2. Have you bought anything from volksusa? I don't think the registration is the same one as the volks int site. Cause volks said,

"As for your sister's registration, if she ordered from us, she is automatically registered in Volks membership."

So I think if you ever bought anything from volks you are registered (like the cards we get when we purchased something in person).

    3. I hope you don't have to have bought a doll to get registered with the USA website. X_X Nethier of my Volks dolls were bought from Volks USA.

    4. I don't think they mean a doll. I think it's purchased anything so that you would be in their system. My friend who has never purchased a doll from them has boughten clothes and stuff and registered. I'm not sure though as well all purchased dolls.

    5. hmmm i purchased from them but never got a card, they mentioned that it's registerring us for a membership but the cards haven't got sent from japan so it'll be done so when the cards are sent.

I need to email them for a change of add too XD

    6. I am driving down with Vicki, but I need someone to share a hotel room with me at the same Embassy Suites as Vicki. (She is staying with someone else.) So I need a roomie! Also, Vicki said that if anyone else wants to travel with us in order to share the gas price, you are more than welcome. I am coming from San Francisco, but we will be leaving from Sacramento. So if anyone in the Bay Area wants to travel with us, we can work something out.

PM me about the hotel arrangements!

    7. Sent you a PM

      I know my boyfriend will go down with me if I can't find some other way.. but I feel guilty making him do that ^^;

    8. I'm sensing fun in the air!! I'm thrilled to have company driving down there. Sometimes alone is okay but I'm really looking forward to having someone with me.

    9. I'm looking forward to a good 'ole fashioned Thelma and Louis road trip! hehe... except I think we should stay away from cliffs.

By the by, I started a thread in the meet-ups section for hotel arrangements. Please check it out and stay at the same hotel as us! We will just party all night long! http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73868

    10. I just bought the new SD book, but that's it, so hopefully that will count.
Thanks for the input, I should probably email to make sure.

    11. We will probably be booking a hotel. We live only like 40 minutes away but we're seeing a show late at the Pantageous the night before x__x Does anyone know how long it will usually run?

    12. Last year the event was from 2pm - 5pm, which basicly ended at sunset when we ran out of light (the tables were set up poolside).

    13. This is what it said on my invitation last year:

"* This application is limited to the members of SD Owners Club in the USA, Canada, and Mexico."

    14. Well we can start sending in applications to get an invitation tommorw so we should all find out the requirements then.

      *crosses fingers*

    15. If you haven't gone to the Volks LA blog site already in the last little bit, the application is up. Bear in mind that as I type this, the 'eligibility notice' is not exactly up (or did I miss something? It's currently just pointing to the info, which has no qualifications), but it's there!

It does have an option for bringing a guest. The specifications on said guest are not detailed (see confusion currently on 'eligibility notice'), I made my guest-specific notes just to be safe.

      Good luck!

    16. Ooo I entered. I hope I can go. I hope they let us know on time too so then I can make hotel plans and such.
Where is everyone staying at? Whats the closet hotel?

    17. Yay, sent in for invitations. Hopefully we can go *_*

    18. Sent my application too! I put "yes" for having a companion come with me. Gonna drag my boyfriend along if I get an invitation. XD The eligibility notice was confusing to me as well... All I understood was that you have to be a SD owner or a SD fan. O_o

    19. There doesn't appear to be an eligibility notice.. it just goes back to the previous annoucement.

    20. My sister and I applied just a few hours ago!

    21. Here's a thread to where some of us are staying:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73868

I haven't seen anyone else post about hotels.

    22. For the NY Tea Party you had to be in the Volks USA system. For the first LA one you did have to be on the SD Owner's List because there was no Volks USA.

    23. The Volks mansion in Palos Verdes is a large house but it can only hold about a maximum of 130 people. As a person who really loves dolls, I would hate to miss out because other people are bringing guests who are not into dolls. Please leave them home! The doll lovers at the party will be very friendly and you won't need to have someone with you.

    24. While we would like everyone to attend to be doll people, it may not always be feasable for people to come only with other doll lovers. Example: I believe someone here mentioned they are under 18, so their parent (doll lover or no) would likely have to be in attendance as a guest for custodial/legal reasons.

I'd be more worried about people who are making requests for invites and are not totally sure they can commit to coming than about people bringing guests...but that is just me. People dropping at the last minute will not allow for people to be put in their places. At least a committed attendee and a guest can be planned around. So yeah..if you sign up, be sure you can make it. If you find out you can't, let Volks know ASAP so they can push people up the list and get them invites.

This, of course, assumes that there will need to be a lottery.

    25. I agree with both comments. Unless it's necessary (like bringing a guardian) if they're not doll lovers (it is called SD Appreciation) I think it would be fairer for all if those guests did not attend. I also hope people don't put in for invited if they are unsure, while it's understandable that a lot could happen between now and August it would help others get an invitation.

    26. I agree as well, you should RSVP only if you're fairly certain you will attend. Last time at the LA teaparty over 130 people were invited to the mansion, but only 103 people actually showed up.

    27. It's true that a lot can happen in a month. However, I think if you find out that you wont be able to make it you should e-mail Volks and tell them. This way they might be able to take you out of the lottery or give your invite to someone else who can make it

    28. Ok, I applied for an invite. Ooooh, I hope it doesn't go to a lottery like they said it might >___> I'm automatically in the system because I ordered my FCS in March, right? I don't have to do anything else to be eligable?

    29. I am fairly certain that we will all be allowed to attend again. Unless there has been a super influx, I am assuming that it'll be alot like last year. I didn't received my invite last year and emailed them about it. A few hours later I had an invite sitting in my inbox with an apology from Volks. So I don't even think that they had a raffle last year.

    30. Since this was such short notice and not as big as the Sumika opening, I can't imagine that they'll have to hold a lottery. It'll probably end up being mostly California owners and some from nearby states, and there's really not *that* many of us, are there?

    31. I think there are alot more than you think there are in California alone. But I am still not that concerned with it.

    32. I could see it going to a lottery since there seem to be a lot more people collecting BJDs then were a year ago. I really hope it doesn't though. I think a better policy would be to not allow guests then to have only so many people be able to come because their guests are also coming :/

    33. I think they "have" to allow guests based on a customer service standpoint and I agree with having that (ie someone driving another person) but I'd also have to agree in having people please use common sense and such when thinking about it. It's like, "dragging" someone to the Volks mansion is taking advantage of the event and disregarding the collectors.
I personally am trying to get myself and mom an invitation so we can both go and have a great time (we're both seperately Volks members ^^)

    34. I'm sure they've taken into account the fact that some people will be bringing guests, and I doubt it's going to have any effect on the number of people invited. At the opening party, they didn't anticipate on people/minors asking to bring guests/gaurdians. Clearly they're planning for it this time.

    35. I was thinking the same thing. It'll be bad for business if they weren't intending to do so. I trust that VOLKS know exactly what they're doing.

    36. Just a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to sign up for this event! Get going and sign up!

    37. Almost time for them to send out the invitations ^_^

      I'm getting all anxious..

    38. I have to check for an invite tomorrow between jobs e____e So anxious! I really hope they can accept all the applications they got ^^

    39. I'm getting excited too! It's like wanting to be able to open your birthday presents, but your birthday is tomorrow. T_T

    40. Anyone recieve anything yet?

    41. Nothing yet. =(

    42. Nothing yet, still waiting

    43. My guess is that they have to do the info tally before they can send anything...make sure all the apps are good (no missing info, etc.), get the headcount of requests and see if they have to do lottery to accomodate, all that fun stuff. Then, they'll shoot out all of the emails in one swoop sometime late this afternoon or this evening.

I'm not going to start worrying until a bunch of people get their emails and I don't ;)

What would surprise me is if the turnout ended up way under projection due to short notice. Doubt it, but who knows!

    44. The invitations will be sent through email? I don't know why but I thought they'd be snail mail.

    45. The site says,
So I'm not really certain why you thought that either! LOL. ^.^

    46. Last LA tea party it was email too...

    47. Haha! I guess I should pay more attention? I'm relieved that it's going to be by email as there's less chance of it getting lost. I put a lot of faith in the US Postal Service but it has happened that mail gets lost. Plus, email is just a *bit* faster! ;)

    48. Meh, I am nervously checking my email from work (which I'm not supposed to do, eep!) and nothing yet for me.
I'm sure it'll be fine but I get paranoid...
      :...(

    49. Nothing yet e___e And I was hoping something would come before I had to leave for my evening job... so nerve-wracking! XD

Do they send you an e-mail if you lose the lottery for an invite, or only if you win?

    50. Last year's tea party did not have a lottery, so who knows if they will send emails to those who don't win...

    51. If you don't get in, they won't send you an email. Last year there were a few people who didn't get emails and just assumed that they weren't invited. I think their names must have just gotten lost in the shuffle.

    52. Still nothing.. I really ought to stop obsessively checking my e-mail though ^^;;

    53. TT.TT I entered...I have a bad feeling about it though :( I have been checking my mom's email every few minutes (hahaha yeah......I sneak into hers but she doesnt mind!)
Ahh my hands are shaking I'm so nervous!!

    54. The site also says,
So that might mean that the invitations can sent out anywhere from today onward.

    55. Yea volks is typically a bit slow when sending notifications out (like dolpa lottery winnings) so I didn't expect it to be delivered on the 18th though typically within the couple days after. Good luck to everyone who entered! I hope we get to go *_*

    56. uhm... i have a question... <_<
im new to this tea party thing...

you have to register to go? i thought yu could just kinda show up and look around kinda thing...

so is it too late to register? >_>

      thanks :)

    57. Well there are two events.

The first one being the tea party at the Volks Mansion. This was by invitation only and you had to sign up. The deadline for submissions was Sunday, so it probably is too late for that.

The second event is at the Volks store the next day. They will be unveiling their new FCS there as well as selling anything and everything in the store. That event is open to everyone. So you can just show up and wander around then. Just be prepared to stand outside in the sun for most of the day. It's still alot of fun, but yeah.

So the answer to your question is that it is too late to register for the Volks tea party, but you can still get your fill of dollfie partying that weekend. Not to mention that we will probably be partying in the hotels all weekend too.

    58. double post.

    59. *is checking her e-mail everyother minute*
      Has anybody gotten anything yet?
