La Légende de Temps - part 2

Jul 8, 2015

    1. @bsistrunk She is a single artist company, so her dolls have pre-order periods during which you can buy them. Edria is not currently for sale.

    2. Oh no. Ok Thank you so much!

    3. You're welcome! Keep your eyes on her IG for for future sale periods. :)

    4. Thank you! Will do! She's my grail so hopefully she will come up again sometime soon.

    5. When you get marketplace access, you may also get lucky and find one there sometime. You never know what will show up!

    6. The fact that some people successfully used a certain browser and others didn't have success with that same browser, or some succeeded by cleaning their cache, others didn't have success with the same action - and so on, all across all the browsers and different problem solving procedures used - is in fact the strongest point in favour of the server traffic overload theory.
Had it been one or two browser types, or had one procedure worked all the time to solve the problems, then we could hypothesize about compatibility issues or bad programming. But if you read all the accounts carefully, this really points towards a more close to the core, general type of technical issue.

This website was obviously overrun with people from all over the world (excluding China), starting even before the sale went live. GreenTeaSlug gave a good example of that. So I agree with you, it was down to luck, and what could be more fair than that. It's life, really. :sweat
Congrats to all who succeeded, and better luck to all who will try next time!

    7. I LOVE the idea of a dancing cavalry officer - it sounds like a movie musical from the 1950s, lol. He sings! He dances! He charges courageously headlong into battle waving a saber!

I am planning for a ballet outfit with an embroidered top, too, probably fitted but with poofy sleeves - but I think I'll just use the leotard under it. I doubt I could sew a teeny pair of snug, well-fitting pants to save my life...and I sure as heck could never create a 3 piece suit. :sweat I'll have to wait and see what the measurements are for this body, and then start hunting for possible fits.

Looking forward to seeing your creations! :thumbup

    8. Lol, it does seem like the set-up for a musical.

My character Parzival started out super serious and now I am imagining a guy who seems dead serious but then he starts breaking out into dance when the feelings are too much.

In possibly an act of hubris, I was like "eh, I can sew my own leotard!" because none of the colors felt really like "this is the one" to me. I hope this does not bite me in the butt.... :sweat

Also since he is cavalry, this means I must make him an entire horse at some point... I don't know how I plan to do that.... because it needs to be like very large.... I kind of want the horse to have something resembling fur so I guess I either need to flock a sculpture or sew one.

    9. Oh, what a fun idea! I've seen a few vintage horse restoration projects on DoA, but I can't remember if I've seen one made from scratch. You should consider making a project journal that the rest of us can ogle when you get around to it. :thumbup

    10. I will have to do a project journal for sure. Not sure if I wanna start now or wait. Like the ballerino body is close to SSDF except for having a thicker neck, a smidge wider shoulders (like a 1 cm difference) and more hip/booty. But the length of his legs isn't listed on the LLT website unless I'm having a dyslexic moment.

    11. Ah! About the same as SSDF's legs.

Guess I can start on the horse....this project will probably help pass the wait time.

    12. I still don't know the style I'll give to my Roderich... I change my mind one hundred times at day :doh and there are a lot of months ahead XD

      • x 2
    13. @Dolly Wardrobe I'm exactly the same way. I can't even settle on whether he's going to have dark, medium or light hair, much less what kind of faceup I want for him. :XD: Clothing style, not a clue - except he needs one ballet outfit, or it would be a sad waste of those beautiful point feet!

    14. @zekarmisama You might look at the My Twinn horse. I found one recently on ebay and then another one was listed for some time.

    15. @celga I love your idea so much, because I can imagine it in my mind like the classical dancers you see on TV, with the audience all dressed up with their golden binoculars lol! I love that image, Im eager to see what you come up with when the time comes
The good thing about leotards and body suits is that you can sew the fabric on them... cut it while they are wearing it and then flip it to make it look nice and clean. Ive just started sewing the past year and if its a leotard like the one on LLT (without the sleeves/ shoulder inserts, neckline etc) it makes it easier, plus if you accent it or use a fabric with a busy pattern, it would hide the imperfections XD

@kagami Im going based on the measurements alone that these dancers are very close to Venitu in size (off in a few places, but closer to Venitu than Iplehouse dolls)
Im guessing your Bermann is the 18M? (by the way, is he the original or refreshed Bermann?) You can get an idea of his size here since they are comparing their fifth motif to their dollshe
      Venitu (5th Motif) Comparison Photos

      @zekarmisama Thats very interesting!
Theres a cool article on BJD Collectasy here with the process of an artist making her horses in 1/3 scale for BJD's
      ~ Casting Nahar ~

If you dont want to go through that and would rather buy it direct, Im pretty sure she still sells them if you contact her. I *think* Salem Sisterhood on IG did that and her horse looks amazing in all black!

Parzival sounds like quite the character and Im very curious to see how looks like when you get him! For some reason, Im picturing Aaron Taylor Johnson in the Anna Karenina movie, with all the dancing, the youthful beautiful face and the cavalry part :)

Which lucky Ballerino did you get by the way? I looked through the thread and your profile and Im very curious!

I know exactly what I want to do with my Isidore. I chose the darkest skin option for him and will be sending him off to Komorebi for a faceup. He will have dark eyeshadow, exaggerated eyeliner, with metallic accents, thick wild eyebrows, natural colored lips and multiple earrings. Im going to be trying to make my own eyes for him, using the Dollmore Glow in the Dark powder mixed in, just for fun. One pale "blind" eye with a white iris and the other a dark brown eye. Im going to try to get in depth with him because I always loved reading people's profiles and the BJD Database (this is what im excited for the most! I want these dolls to come so someone can start a database for the dancers and I can read what everyone came up with)

    16. @nancy_schroeder_ca those are too small. I saw someone with a SID girl riding those and her leg goes way too far down. Aesthetically, I just don't like it when the rider's feet extend too far past the chest of the horse. That is like my main sticking point for horse sizes.

@GreenTeaSlug Aaron Taylor Johnson does kind of have some similarity to my planned look! lol. He is gonna be a blonde with curly/wavy hair. I got the Neil head, but might be using the Pygmalion Robin head for the ballerino body. I'm like hmmmmm will I want to make tweaks to what I envision for his face?

Unfortunately Nahar is smaller than I want. The fact that 70cm dolls are particularly leggy just makes everything they sit on look so small. Like I have trouble finding furniture with a seat height that doesn't make my SSDF boy look like a man squatting in those small kindergarten/preschool chairs. Like even stuff I've seen specifically for larger dolls will have like 5 inch seat height.... which is fine for SD, but looks very awkward for my 70cm boys.

By my current estimate, I want a horse that is about 24 to 26 inches at the shoulder so that it is an average to slightly above average size horse scaled to my character who is 6 feet tall. I've seen people suggest a horse that is like 15 to 17hands tall for 6 foot tall people so 60-69" to his 72"

First sketch, for size.... need to like check proportions and pick the horse breed look I am aiming for and sketch out the width I am going for so I don't end up making a skeleton/armature that is the wrong size.

    17. I keep thinking about this body... And how I kind of want a 70 cm tan boy. But the head sculpts she has now are just too serious for what I'd want. It is fun to imagine a bodybuilder girl with a ballet dancer boyfriend though.

    18. @GreenTeaSlug Yes! That is exactly what I was picturing - classical ballet with all the elegance of the old school costumes. My sewing machine is kaput, though, so I'd have to do it by hand...so I'm thinking...a year or two to complete? :XD:

@zekarmisama Look at you, already out of the starting gate! (I know it wasn't intentional, but in the second picture your boy looks like he's thinking 'don't touch the hair!') I am so impressed with your artistic ability, and it's exactly the size that I would envision for one of these big guys. It's also the perfect opening for a project journal - please tag it here when you get rolling, so we know to follow!

@iamkathybrown You just gave me the fabulously wonderful and disturbing image of popping a smirking Black Pearl head onto a ballerino body. I only wish mine was a color match so that I could give it a try!

    19. @celga TBH I'm surprised I got the proportions pretty on point just via free handing.. I decided to use an Irish Warmblood as the reference horse and I only needed to do a few small tweaks.

lol, my SSDF guy is definitely a "don't touch the hair" sort. He is a 1920s guy who has strong feelings about the superiority of automobiles.

I will start the project journal as soon as I get fabric. I'm trying to decide on the perfect champagne palomino color fabric.... I don't know why I keep talking myself into extremely specific blonde/cream shades for things. I also drove myself bonkers dyeing hair for a doll who is a very specific shade of creamy yellow.

Gonna give this horse a ridiculously glossy mane with silk roving or something.

Horsegroom "Isn't this a war horse?"
      Parzival "Yes"
Horsegroom "And you're going to spend part of your salary telling me to groom him extra?"
Parzival "He is gonna be the prettiest war horse."

I have no idea what rank Parzival is gonna be. Probably not too high ranked, but I also want to sew all the fancy stuff.

I'm sure I will regret it when I need to buy like ten miles of military cord and stitch it all down.... :sweat

      • x 1
    20. You know, as you describe him, he sounds like a captain to me - key player, but not at the top of the ranks! And any cavalry officer whose hobby is ballet - the most graceful, elegant and athletic dance of all - needs a horse to match. His poor, unfortunate stable boy. :XD:

    21. Oh no, now I also want to make a dressage outfit for him.

Of course the horse knows how to dance too.

      • x 2
    22. That's precisely what I was going to ask. Clearly it's required now.
Definitely looking forward to seeing this project journal!

      • x 1
    23. Oh wow, you must! And then the horse will need the dressage "do" for its mane! That poor stable boy's life just gets worse and worse. :XD:

    24. My shorter dolls are a bit more stylized than both Pygmalion Robin and LLT Neil's faces, but I might dress one of them as the poor put upon stable boy.

I found a rocking horse & carousel horse restoration website that sold 2-inch wide stirrup irons last night. Kind of expensive at $25+$7 shipping, but having a solid piece will look nicer than me sitting around bending flat craft metal. I'm happy there are enough people who want toddler-size rocking horses with real stirrup irons to warrant making these. Kiddy stirrup irons for kids who can safely ride a live horse/pony are a bit bigger since you should not let a toddler ride a live horse...

I was looking at this page (Attractive, Distinctive, One Size: The Military Uniform in the Late 18th Century) and I think gonna use this Captain of 5th Hussar regiment as my reference for the military outfit.... though I also like the brigade general light cavalry outfit. The cape. But brigade general is kinda high ranked. .....Parzival is a German name but I keep ending up looking at French stuff.... I'm just gonna say I'm running Hodge-Podge Fantasy World...

I'm gonna need so much cord... so much buttons... Also I have never made a nice hat before. I gotta make a nice hat...

Granted, I have also never made a 1/2 scale horse with all the tack either. This doll is turning into a big project doll. All my other dolls the most complicated thing I do is mens formalwear which isn't hard-hard so much as it needs to be sewn in a really exacting manner. My dad says a very well tailored suit needs to fit a guy so exactly that he will need to buy a new suit if he gains weight.

    25. Bleh, been sick, but I have to say I have enjoyed reading all of the ideas for the ballerino dolls so much! :chocoheart

      @zekarmisama
My wife is in love with your Parzival. She was very happy to hear that the horse can also dance. :celebrate
I ADORE those military uniforms you linked and yes, the cape! :nosebleed

As for myself...I don't have an idea that I purchased my Neil for. I just fell hopelessly in love with the body sculpt as soon as teasers started appearing, and I'd been eyeing Neil from a distance since his release. I just have a hard time with very muscular, heavy bodies (and even then I was tempted because it was quite gorgeous!), so I was SO excited to see this graceful body offered with Neil. :chocoheart

That said...while I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling these last days I had a few ideas. Not sure if they will stick as I tend to have TOO MANY ideas for every doll, hehe...but here they are so far:

I have a Nabarro Kalan head and the idea occurred to me that I should pair him with my Neil. I was planning to make him into a sort of candy/confections/sweets themed prince (like a sugarplum prince a la the Nutcracker), buuut he seems determined to be some kind of wizard? So I think I give up and he will be a sort of mischievous wizard and my Neil would be an etherial sort of magical counterpart to him. Something like Prospero and Ariel. I am half tempted to make Neil swan themed (all in white and pale pearl colors) and have my Kalan be Baron von Rothbart, as in Swan Lake (getting that ballet theme in there). My idea is that they would look lovely in contrasting colors, Neil all in pale colors and Kalan in dark. Of course...I have no idea if they will actually look good together, and my Kalan is still awaiting his body, but I suppose in my head that is the idea I am currently taken with.

In a bird/swan theme, I was also thinking of the fairytale The 12 Brothers, who were turned into birds and their sister must silently make shirts to return them to their human form. But she runs out of time and the last brother is left with one wing arm. Something between the swan princess and this last brother with his telltale feathered limb is what I'm daydreaming about right now. :)

      • x 5
    26. Ooooh a swan/bird theme would be cool!

I was counting buttons on the hussar captain and I apparently need 85 buttons for the dolman.... and then there's a fur lined pelisse on top of that dolman jacket so I need.... 187 buttons.... :horror: How did people keep the military clothed back then. I found a person who made a hussar uniform and documented much of the process on facebook and it's both enlightening and.... daunting...

    27. Goodness....that is a lot of buttons!

    28. t sounds absolutely amazing and scary at the same time. I would very much like to see the process and the outcome; it should come out perfectly perfectly. :aeyepop:

    29. @zekarmisama - Wow, I doubt I'd ever have the patience to tackle all that detailing. I'm sure it will look great on your guy in the end, though!
Your project got me thinking again about how it ought to be possible to design a 3D-printed horse (hollow hard plastic, I mean) that's both posable and can bear the weight of a BJD if you used the right kind of joints (like rosette/hirth joint/locking hinges style? The kind you can press a button on the side to adjust, but I'm having trouble finding any diagrams of how that works) and now my brain won't stop trying to design parts for it. Shame I don't know anything about 3D modeling software!

      • x 1
    30. Parzival and his horse are gonna have the longest project journal...

Speaking of, I haven't named the horse. I think the horse's official name is something really manly or a really pompous pedigree name but Parzival quietly calls it like Smooshkins or something when he thinks no one is listening.

If I was better at 3-D modelling, I'd give it a shot since I can't be the only person who wants a gigantic poseable horse and 3D printing is a lot easier to do repeatedly and consistently than sewing a plush (currently I have a feeling I will be handsewing a lot of padding on the horse for shape details), but I have a hard time wrapping my head around that sort of thing and get frustrated too fast to put in the time to improve. I haven't gotten any farther than a hilariously lumpy low poly spaceship from a class I took 10 years ago...

The scientists need to finish inventing the "make what I am picturing in my head when I push one button" computer. lol

      • x 2
    31. You know, it just occurred to me that he may do well with a really pompous Latin name. Ceasar, Brutus, Septimus, Maximus, Octavius or some such thing. (I'm kind of partial to Brutus, lol...it's such a nice counterpoint to Smooshkins!)

      • x 1
    32. I agree with @celga ! I couldn't help but think of Name of the Rose and Brunellus.

      • x 1
    33. Brutus is a nice contrast to the cutesy name. Smooshkins turned into Tramplekins. Light cavalry doesn't do much trampling, but Tramplekins ended up feeling really catchy to me.

    34. LOL, I love 'Tramplekins'...cute but terrifying. :XD:

Well learn, darn it. I would SO buy a scale 3D printed horse for some of my big boys and girls. I would probably add a fuzzy coat, but I am way too lazy to do the whole project from start to finish like @zekarmisama...

      • x 2
    35. There might also be a free 3D sculpt of one online that you could scale up to work. I was asking about that for a different project, and I’m told that it’s like increasing the size on any other visual art, where increasing the size can sometimes make it look less detailed than it does at its original smaller size, but you could always sculpt some of that back on after the fact.

I would just of course make sure the designer has made their sculpt useable to the public, and is okay with slight alterations (like scaling it up!)

    36. @celga - Unfortunately, being able to see how the pieces could work doesn't translate into having the patience and skills to (digitally) sculpt an entire horse. Now you've got me looking at horse anatomy drawings, though.

@Chameleon - I was wondering that myself, but if I was going to put in the effort to actually do this, I'd rather it be my own design. Besides, turning a model into a poseable kit would take more alterations than just changing the size...

The funny thing is, I don't really have need for a normal horse myself. What I originally wanted to do was figure out how to create one of the riding beasts from my story world for my dolls. They're... more like scaly half-plant-half-camels. But I dropped that idea a long time before 3D printing became a viable option. (On the other hand, my steampunk dolls would happily adopt a horse or three, so it's not like I couldn't find a use for them too. Where I would keep them all is another matter.)

      • x 2
    37. @Sianserais I wish you hadn't given up on that idea - I would LOVE to see a scaly half-plant-half-camel! My imagination can't even conjure one, so now I'm dying of curiosity!

I was so bummed to have missed out on the demi-pointe feet that I ordered a pair of Monochrome's high heel boy feet, because they were cheap and I thought they might work - since basically they're they're the same shape. (Nowhere near as pretty or humongous as LLT's usual big ol' feet, but still made for large dolls.) Of course the color probably won't be a perfect match, but no biggie when they're covered with a leotard or...the high heeled boy boots that were sold with them. I just had to buy a pair of those, too, so I guess my guy will have his flamboyant moments. :XD: I know the demi-pointes will be sold again eventually, but these will suffice in the meantime - and yeah, high heels for a ballerino - I need them! Now I have to cross my fingers that everything fits together...

    38. Sorry for the very late replies!
      Thank you very much!

      Thank you!

      Thanks!

Now my Roderich has his tattoos and everything, but I haven't take picture of him outside for the moment. So here is a portrait of him (with temporary eyes):

    39. Woot! Probably the last one here to get around to it, but I just made my third layaway payment and OE Roderich SHALL be mine! Eventually...like...in two weeks before forever... XD

      • x 3
    40. You and me both, @celga. I only just paid the last third a few days ago, after two adjustments to my invoice that made it a lot more than a third! *_*
I guess the shipping calculator was more broken than they thought. Still can't believe they insist nothing was wrong with the website. :|

    41. Wow! I just went through the posts from the initial ordering period and that seemed.............really in tents! Makes me kind of scared for when tan Roderich OE is going to launch, because I think I'm going to go for him then :nowords: But if I read correctly, that release won't be for another year? So hopefully LLT will have all their browser issues sorted out by then. I'm curious though, does anyone have a first edition of Roderich OE to compare to his newest edition? I realize no one's received their dolls yet, but I figured using the official pics would work well enough

    42. @kibokyana This is the first time Roderich OE has been released. It is Roderich that has his sculpt updated for this body. :) Julia posted a comparison of these two heads on instagram HERE.

    43. I think it was mentioned this round will be delivered by June 2020, so next preorder will be after then I assume.

      Finished my layaway as well....

Really need to figure out the engineering for my boy's beautiful horse....

      • x 1
    44. Ohh! I see! I didn't realize that! I knew he had a first edition, but it must've been the half-closed one. The glow up though.....so real. I love it

    45. Actually, there was an OE version of Roderich before. But it's true that the new one has been updated.

      • x 2
    46. @Sianserais I didn't know that! Thank you for the info! he looks lovely...:aeyepop:

    47. Oh man! I knew I wasn’t trippin :XD: His updated version honestly looks so good....the glow up he deserves :pout:

    48. I do really like the new ears. They have so much more personality than the earlier ones. :whee:

To confuse the matter of Roderich eyes even further, I'm sure I'm not the only one who modified the original Roderich to have more open eyes. My wife and I bought twins when he first came out and she wanted hers to be a little less sleepy looking. It helps us tell them apart, too. :sweat

I should really get around to photographing then again now that they have pro face-ups!

    49. Do it, do it, do it ,do it!

Hopefully one of mine will have a body within the next few months.

    50. The Ballerino body is just gorgeous! :D I'll definitely have to start watching LLT so I can order a doll one day.

    51. They look great! It's amazing how big a contrast that slight mod made between the two boys. They look like identical twins with different facial expressions...very realistic!

    52. Someone has received their Roderich! They have a comparison with their old Roderich on Instagram here! He's so beautiful.. Omg :D:D:D

    53. I've seen two now! I wonder if they are both from the Chinese pre-order?
It's so exciting to see them arriving home. <3
      The are so gorgeous! :D

    54. @Lady Ravenswood omg yesss the white skin one is so beautiful too! i know the tanned one is from China, so yeah, these boys are probably from the Chinese pre-order.. I'm so excited for them. :nosebleed

    55. I'm wondering if the posters are actually friends of Julia's. The owner of the tan one posted a ballerino Roderich with her other Roderichs back in April.

Edit: Here. But can one of you please link the white one? Apparently I'm awful at searching IG, and I can't find him. :XD:

      Here you go :)
I was super excited because I ordered white skin (Neil) so just seeing the resin color was neat. Hehe.

Was the April photo from an event? I feel like that background is familiar...either way, it's just nice to see them. Not sure it makes the waiting easier exactly, but eye candy all the same. :whee:

    58. @Lady Ravenswood Thank you! I have no idea why that didn't turn up in my search, but ooo, he's so beautiful in white, like a marble sculpture - and the posing looks amazing! :D Whatever the reason, I'm SO excited to see them coming home...maybe she's just sending them in order of payment as she cranks them out...

    59. She just posted another set of photos! Gosh, he's so beautiful even without a faceup! :nosebleed
