Kyoto Dolpa 7 (March 14, 2010)

The SD17 Hijikata boy looks just like the Ryoya/Minoru series with additional chocolate in his mouth.

Okita Souji is cute! I miss the SD13 boy body though. The nearly $300 extreme diet he went through has done little to his aesthetics.

The Yos are so cute. I really need more fairyland themed dolls, as there are not enough.

Same about the victorian inspired outfits. Characters from that era really rock, and are super current.

. . .Wow. These outfits have left me speechless. Between this and the February collection, Volks has gone in a new direction with their clothing designs! I'm just glad that the dresses I really like are pink and would therefore look horrible on my redheaded big girl XD.

I already spot a couple of outfits I want for my boy. Thank goodness I don't have a girl at the moment, or else I'd really be screwed.

I really like the Tree House outfit but I think it'll be SD13 and I'd want it SD17 size. I may not escape the white tuxedo Or the yo kimono set.

Wow seriously!!!!... Just when you think you've save VOLKS DOES THIS.... OMG SD17 Hijikata, and I won't even mention those outfits... The SD16 fitted Victorian dress is just a MUST HAVE... And funny thing is I was just thinking how much I would LOVE it if Volks were to come out with a fitted Off white outfit SD17 outfit for my boys and LO & BEHOLD.... I love the new Souji so far and on the new body. I for one can't stand the SD13 (though I love the SD10), but to each their own. I actually just bought my own Souji #1 for said SD10 and he should be home soon~ Maybe this Souji #2 will have to come home as a big brother (<- evil thoughts)

I also adore the little Yo outfits and while have to try to snag at least one! The other outfits are so lovely, but my girl is far too skinny for them and I will try valiantly to resist the men's.

EDIT: Do we have ANY word on if there will be an international/volks us lottery? I'm sorry if someone has said, I didn't see it in the first bit or very last bit.

 

Volks is seriously making me hate them right now.

And by hate I mean love just about everything they are putting out and be really angry I can't afford all of it.

 

Hm... Why am I still here? I should just look away. Hijikata is starting to look a bit yummy... :/

I like the outfits, and even though these pictures are still tiny I think I like Hijikata and Okita more and more.

I've never attended Dolpa before. And since i'm in Kyoto right now, I would like to attend.

I have a few questions...
- Will there be School heads available?
- Will there be other dealers there selling their items (outfits, etc..)?
- Can i purchase 2 guidebooks? (my friend wants to go)

School heads are only available at SD Kyoushitsu (the classes on how to do faceups etc). There will most certainly be dealers, and lots of 'em.
I don't know if one sumika will sell you more than one guidebook or not. If not, you can presumably just go to another sumika and get another one or order from the website. I recommend going earlier to get them rather than later as they do sell out. You can usually buy them at the door, but that means not being able to get into the limited lines (if you're not going for limited clothes or LEs, then that's not an issue).

Oh yes, they do look perfectly cute together! I already have plans for them together I'll try to get both of them, but I think not at at the same time.

 

There are often kyoushitsu happening just before Dolpa, but you usually have to apply in advance for them. I haven't seen any announcements for them for this particular Dolpa, though.

You're right. Checking the webstore now, it does look like you can order multiple guidebooks off the website, so I don't see why they would restrict you at a sumika.

Gah, even the outfits are fantastic! I love the mori girl and boy outfits in the eighth and ninth pictures! I haven't been this excited about a Dolpa for a long time, but it's kind of scary too for my poor savings account.

 

Ohhhh!! They are killing me over here with Lorina and those outfits! I love the little Yo kimonos with the bloomers and that pink gown is beautiful!

 

I think the dolls are gorgeous, but none of them are really for me even though Lorina is really sweet. I don't collect anything larger than MSD. Luckily, I don't like the single girls's MSD outfit (I have a similar style one already), so I'm thankful the romantic style outfits are all SD. The little kimono-style outfit for the Yo's are kind of cute, though.

I'm not tempted - yay!

 

Question:
Still haven't figured out how the Volks lottery system works for us international fans after all this time on DoA- so what's a girl gotta do to even attempt getting her hands on a Hijikata at this point- Are there service shops in the States that takes reservations? Or will there be a lottery at Volks USA after the Kyoto event? Thanks guys!

 

There are doll shops in the states that take requests, but they only get a handful of dolls in stock. To the best of my knowledge you can still try for them on the English Volks website though.

I love the blue dress for Yo and the white flowery dress! Screams mori girl to me and I think my Rose would look good in that style. ^^

 

Actually, those pictures are from the new Volks News. ^^; When I went to Sato today someone had brought a copy and kindly let us flip through it. The guidebook itself is not all that interesting except in terms of the independent circles selling, they don't have any pictures of the outfits. ^^;

The two white Yo outfits are like chibi versions of the Omukae outfits currently being used at Sumika.

There are also a few MSD outfits being released that are not in those pictures. I don't think I saw any new wigs but there are new shoes. I was quite impressed with the offerings if you're into larger size dolls.

Personally, I don't remember the guidebook ever selling out beforehand, but I can't remember if they pull them off the shelves a week in advance like they do for other events.

 

I have gone to sumikas a few days before a dolpa and they were sold out of guidebooks - not that I couldn't get one at the door, though.

It always takes a while for Volks News to get to me *sigh*. I'm looking forward to getting a closer look.

 

Which Sumikas? I admit, in the past I've tended to get my guides about a week in advance, but I've never had any problem getting one.

Are you sure they were actually sold out and not removed because of how close the event was? SCC guides don't sell out, but 1 week before the event they remove them from the shelves and you're stuck getting them at the event after that. I don't really know why they do that.

Hopefully you get yours soon, as they've definitely gone out.

 

It was about three days before a Dolpa and both the Ginza and Shinjuku sumikas were out. The manager I spoke to at Ginza said they were sold out, but I suppose it's possible they do pull them or something. Of course they had them at the door, so I got in just fine.

I've never gone in a Dolpa limited line, though, so it's never been a problem for me personally .

 

Doomed. I'm a Volks fan from day #1, but I can say that this is the first offering in a while that has really attracted my attention. Argh!

 

Nagoya Dolpa sold out of guidebooks. They had to print up ghetto versions the night before the event.

At first I was meh about another Okita, but after seeing the photos at Sato, I really like him! >.< And of course, he needs his boyfriend captain to go with him.... *sigh* If only I were made of money....

 

Are there any SD or SD13 girls being offered?

Can anyone tell me who this pretty girl in the white is? I'm inclined to think Jun Tachibana, but I don't want to be right since she's so rare and this girl is so pretty!

Holy... ok, Hijikata is definitely a need. His face is beyond gorgeous and I LOVE his full set. And I will be stalking Y!J and the Market Place for Okita afterwards... I really hope there's an after event for him, though I think it'll be pretty hard to get one.

And OMG! Those outfits!! I love the ones the new boys are modeling, and the two last floral dresses on the big girls... so lovely. This is indeed one evil Dolpa. D:

I love the new Okita. Don't care much one way or another for his body or clothing, but guh - his head is gorgeous.

If I am at the Yokosuka Navy base next year, would it be within train distance to come? Or would I have to fly? (I'm still trying to figure out the traveling situation in Japan...)

 

Oh god, I thought I was safe because Shinsengumi isn't quite my thing (if they'd done the Genpei War or Sengoku period, on the other hand...) but after seeing full photos of Okita? Damn. Little Lorina isn't helping things either! D:

 

You can take a train to most major cities in Japan, it's just the cost to do so.

For a Tokyo Dolpa it will cost you around $20 one way and take about an hour and half. For Kyoto, Nagoya and Osaka it will take a lot longer and cost you a lot more if you use a Shinkansen. If you don't use a shinkansen it takes a REALLY long. There are highway buses that are cheaper, you'd still need to get to Yokohama or Tokyo.

Flying is expensive and not all that worth it, since you would still need to get to Haneda which is not all that close to you.

The nearest shinkansen station would probably be Shin Yokohama. For Kyoto, Nagoya and Osaka you would probably need to overnight it the day before and possibly the day of the event depending on how much time you want to dawdle/how good you are at navigating/how long you want to hang around after.
