http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a191/seraphim_grace/?action=view¤t=bootpatternmsd.jpg I haven't got pictures yet but i'm sure some of you would like this. It's a really simple pattern but fiddly and in many ways you're better off doing tihs by hand, and you will need glue for the soles. But enjoy.
This looks like a fun project to try when I have the time. I think I may use it to finish off my Hunter x Hunter Gon cosplay, with some modifications. Thank you very much, I appreciate it!
Oooh, thankies, I'll have to try this out when I get the materials. I was thinking about doing this since boots are so expensive, but wasn't sure about the shape of the peices. :3
I've made one so far with the leftover fur i bought for a wig (you can only buy a quarter of a yard minimum so i have lots left over) the pattern is really easy but don't worry about asking if you need to. I worked it out using an old boot of my own and an awful lot of slopers. I'm trying to think if I learnt any tricks through my multiple attempts but i can't think of any. oh, don't sew up the back or stiffen the sole till you've turned the boot inside out. I did that one a few times without thinking.
I have some tiny zippers I've been saving for just such an occasion! What materials would you use for the soles?
I used cardboard covered in thick black paint and pva to make them look like proper soles, which i then glued over a fabric inner sole (you need an inner sole to glue to, because otherwise it just ends up a nightmare) a freind of mine did suggest taking apart a porcelain doll's shoes (which are too big for the twins) and using the soles of them because they're solid plastic.

Perfect, thanks so much, i've got a load of leather scraps i can use up now, won't be as fiddly as making human sized medieval shoes!!! LOL
won't be as fiddly as making human sized medieval shoes you say that now. I would advise hand stitching as well, because it's so tiny and fiddly but it comes out looking great so who's complaining.
I've made cloth shoes for Maerz, DoD-C, but those were simple things, like mules-styled slippers and ballet-styled slippers. (Fun fact! I twisted my foot really bad about two and a half years ago, and now I can't wear mules or sandles with one strap across the toes; I walk different and it doesn't stay on.) At one point I was going to make him fluffy housewife slippers, but he just had that look... I stopped. Are the feet of male and female Dream of Doll children the same size?
his feet are a little bigger, but it's millimeters. His hands curl in as well which means he grips your finger like a baby, where she has her fingers splayed. He's taller and thicker in the waist too. Most of the differences are minute but there are differences although they were a set. I thought because DOD specialise in boys that apart from the chest plate they'd be the same but apparently all their bodies are minutely different. you could use the pattern to make bunny slippers, just leave off the leg bit, and you have a pair of furry mules.
For the bottom soles, I was thinking of using some black craft foam, and paint the raw edges black. Cheaper then taking apart porcelin doll shoes
Thanks, I've been told Obitsu feet are MSD sized. I will have to try these are you sure? because i didn't think they they were, MSD feet are tiny, and i thought obitsus were sd sized. you could always size up the pattern by 125% to make it SD sized but you'd have to try and make it up to make them fit.
For the bottom soles, I was thinking of using some black craft foam, and paint the raw edges black. Cheaper then taking apart porcelin doll shoes that would probably work really well. I'd love to see photos.
Her feet are about 58mm long. My Luts boy feet are about 73mm and he can wear SD girls shoes. How long are your dolls feet?
Thanks, I've been told Obitsu feet are MSD sized. I will have to try Beau's feet which is a DOC boy are 58mm, you're right, why I'll be. I honestly thought that they were bigger than that. But I will stand up and admit that I was wrong. I made the pattern on Belle's feet mind and they're slightly smaller, you may still have to adjust it.
A little known fact - Obitsus have tiny, ugly feet! The rest of them is so charming that I overlook this flaw :-). A friend of mine is working on sculpting alternate feet for them, I can't wait. Susan
I failed..HORRIBLY! probably doesn't help i'm useing a pair of streatchy blue jeans.. can someone tell me how exactly to sew this? XD i think i got the footbackwards (you know, A-A and B-B kinda directions...or something)
can someone tell me how exactly to sew this? XD this is how i made it up. with the long pattern pieces i lined them up so that the notch was at the bottom and the front (there is some curve to the calf anyway) I sewed up the front seam. take the piece labelled the front of boot and make sure that the thinner curve is pointed out, now attach the wider curve to the notch, it should fit quite well. this should give you the top of the shoe this is where it gets really fiddly. attach the bottom sole to the piece you've just made, there is a 1/4 inch seam allowance but you'll be surprised here just how little that actually is. I found myself stuffing the foot with a bent pipe cleaner to do this bit. Sew it all the way around to attach it to the back of the boot. turn right way around, this is why it's still really soft at this point. hem the top of your boot, or add trim now, then sew up the back seam with invisible stitches, or add eyelets, a zipper whatever you like. I glued a piece of cardboard unto the sole to give it some stability here (I used hot glue) and all sorts of people have had brilliant ideas on how to do it. but that's how to make these boots.
thank you very much! I started out sewing the top of the boot to the soul, than struggled with the leg parts XD
Looks like a great little pattern! I can't wait to try it out once my Narin boy gets here, but I might even try to size it down to fit an OD Tae . . .
I've just bought an od Dong so i was wondering how to size it down for him so I'll post then when I've done it. I ordered him on the wednesday and by wednesday evening he was posted. and that was with a face up, you cannot fault that company apart from they don't have any boy So doll clothes yet, so I'll just have to make him some.
waa ToT is there anyway that this can be put in some other program? D: for some reason the acrabat reader thing isnt working for me T-T;; /swt sorry to bother @_@@!!!
man, this looks really interesting, especiallyt he thick card board substitute part XD, but what I want to know is, what can I use to make the front/toe part of the boots hard? Like in whatever shape I desire XD
I was thinking of this too, or 2) the sheets of cork they sell at the auto supply store, 3) a thicker piece of leather, or 4) even forming a sole out of fimo - that way you can form a heel if you want. Ellen in NH
I just printed it out and I cant wait to try it. I just had an idea that I think I might try. What about making a lining and sewing it to the main fabric ( seam on the wrong side of both fabrics ) then pushing the lining inside. This way you wouldnt have to fold over at the top. After reading this, it sound a little complicated. Im going to give it a try. Ill keep you updated on my progress.
The pattern looks fairly easy to me. I think I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Or perhaps tomorrow if I can manage to find everything I want for it right now.
I want to make these so badly! I'm sure I could find some material to whip them up with, too... too bad I don't have my dolls yet, and don't have the money to get them anytime soon. Maybe I'll go ahead and try out the pattern, and if the boots turn out well I'll just send them to someone who already has one.
Ooh! These could turn into smexy mocassin-type boots for the elfie boys~ XDD Thank you for the pattern!
oh ya! I made some some great boots. I enlarged the pattern to fit an SD. I used fur outside with a cotton lining, oh did I mention there's a zipper in the back. (I just tried to write out the instructions but I guess it was too long , I ran out of space.) So if anyone wants directions leave me a message and I will get those to you. I will post pictures as soon as I can figure out how. T.mouse

I'm thinking toy or RC car tires would be wide enough to work. That would also add to look of some heavy types of boots.
Here are 2 pics of Kimiko wearing the boots, that I made using this patterns, to go with het Jedi-outfit. I made them in brown fake-leather. pic 1 pic 2
Thanks to all who gave patterns, directions, encouragement and pictures! I have some ideas now -all I need now is time!!!
Toy and RC car tires will be too thick to cut. However there is this stuff in the housewares section (with the Contact Paper and shelf paper) called "nonskid" which is easy to cut, the right thickness, made of rubber-like material, comes in many colors and would provide excellent "traction." It's meant to put under things that you don't want to slip on a shelf or a table. There are also coasters and placemats made of it if you don't want to buy a whole roll, and these actually come in even more colors.
thats really great for my upcoming MSD....what MSD were these designed for Seraphim? (want to double check since I won't have my MSD for at least a month....and Miyuki wouldnt be caught dead in boots)
they were designed around a DOD tender Bee-a and there were many bits of boot lying around as i worked it out
Oh these look great - thanks for all the useful hints. Off to find some leather scraps and a thimble if I need to hand sew.
I love homemade shoes! I'm going to give this a try the minute my first girl walks in to the room. Or show up at the PO...
Great post! I was thinking about making my own boots, becaue everywhere i look theres nothing but punky goth shoes. For the soles, what about eva foam (i actually have flipflops made out of it.) ?You can also get it under the "foamies" name in the kids section of craft stores. Plus, it comes in black brown, and a whole bunch of colors and verious thicknesses. Glue several pieces together (stacked)to add height and stability.....
Go buy some flip flops or sandles or something at a $1 store and cut those up was my thought for the soles.
Thanks for posting this. I am horrible at making shoes but I will definatly have to give this a shot!
Thanks for this! I love your patterns and this will be a good one for my MSD elf boy XD Shoes have always been beyond my sewing ability, haha. Again, thanks for taking the time to work this out and post for us~
Has anyone made these boots and have pictures of them? I'd love to see! Is pvc tape? I noticed Seraphim said she used that along with black paint. Thanks!
pvc is a type of light plastic fabric and i painted the soles there were pictures of these on the thread somewhere, but they are a simple pair, think uggs
I am soooo going to try this. I have a new doll in the mail and he'll be the only one without shoes when he gets here. Thanks for posting this!
