Kaye Wiggs Kazekids Tiny Doll discussion Part 1

Mar 31, 2008

    1. Talyssa is adorable - does she pose better than the other ones?

    2. Not really. None of these dolls pose very well (compared to other bjds) but I try make the best of their limitations. As with most dolls, you just have to get used to them, and figure out what they can and can't do, and take the time to try coax them to do what you want. It can be frustrating, but the dolls are so cute, that it's worth the effort to try.

Here Cinnamon and Tillie are checking out Talyssa's 'boo-boo'. She had a broken finger, which i glued back on and covered with a tiny bandaid. (Jpop has ordered her a new hand)

    3. lol, I dearly love my Cinnamon and Tillie dolls. The posing might not be great, but they are just so darn cute.
@MB Lilac Talyssa looks great with them and Jpop is very good about making sure all of Kaye's Kids arrive in great shape, plus she was able to help me out on an issue with a doll I'd had for a while. I really appreciate the people at Jpop.

    4. I love my Cinnamon and Tillie too.
In the meantime, while we wait for a new hand, my Talyssa has a bandaid on her 'sore' finger.

    5. Oh no! Did poor Talyssa have an accident?

      Teddy

    6. That face, I love tiny Talyssa, and your picture of her is wonderful. Her little hand adds a lot of character. I'd be keeping both hands and use the booboo hand for the "victim" photo shoot, or the "I really need a hug" ones.

    7. @Teddy - when she arrived, and I started to dress her, the middle finger on her right hand just popped off. I wasn't being rough at all, and was rather shocked. But Grace will send me a new hand.
@oriscany - the little bandaid is rather cute, but I suspect a broken finger would devalue the doll, so I'm glad to be getting a new hand.

    8. Yeek! I can imagine. Glad to hear she'll soon be whole again

      Teddy

    9. lol...Keep both. That's the ticket.... :D

    10. @Teddy - I'm not sure about "soon", but eventually.

In the meantime it doesn't prevent her from helping out cleaning up all the fallen leaves....

    11. I'd be tempted to keep the hand with the bandaid on as her regular hand and put the replacement aside for purposes retaining the value of the doll.

    12. @Teddy - That's what I'm thinking as well

    13. Hi all,
I'm really new to the Kaye Wiggs dolls. I managed to get a Tiny Talyssa in Coffee Tan, and she really is adorable!
Having said that, I must admit her poseability is not as well as that of my other YOSD size BJD's, but she's really cute.

    14. Would wiring her help with that?

      Teddy

      • x 1
    15. It might. I've not tried. My KW tinies don't get out much as I find them extremely frustrating to pose. The worst are the legs that keep rotating in their sockets, and then the very limited two positions of the torso joint. I'm also finding that my Talyssa can't look down at all, and that's an important position that I use a lot with my other dolls. It's hard to get her to interact with the other dolls when she's just staring straight ahead into space. I'm wondering if that plastic ring thing inside her neck joint hinders her head movement.

    16. My DollsTown dolls had that problem and I found that sueding the joints helped a great deal (they also needed wiring so they could pose better and hold the pose.

      Teddy

    17. Maybe I should try wiring them then.

    18. They're small enough that you could probably try with pipecleaners from a craft store as a quick and chep way of trying it out to see ifg it helps, and invest in proper armature wire if it works.

      Teddy

    19. No problem. I have all gauges of wire on hand.

    20. I would love to know if wiring works, @MB Lilac , and what kind of wire would work best

    21. I haven't tried wiring yet. I was too busy working on making a Santa costume for my Wizard (he's a OOAK BJD made of various doll parts, and a face I built up with Apoxie) Tillie and Talyssa were having their portraits taken at the same time, so they got to be the first to have a portrait taken with 'Santa'.....
Everyone is still rather 'stiff' in the photo, but I'm sure they'll all warm up and relax as the holiday season progresses.

    22. The Santa looks great - just right for your girls to whisper their Christmas lists to.

      Teddy

    23. Thanks! All three of my little girls had their photo taken with him at the mall....

    25. I love your Santa and your pictures with him @MB Lilac !

    26. Hey I was looking into the Laryssa doll and looking at the website and I haven't seen any on sale, do they still make dolls? Has she been discontinued? :(

    27. Hi! No Kaye still puts out a ton of dolls! They are sold through Jpopdolls.net
Each doll is put on pre-order for a period of time, I think it's around 4-6 weeks, then they make the dolls.
Not sure if they will be offering Laryssa anymore or not. Usually each doll is offered a few times, in different Resin colors, in elf, human, or fawn version, etc.
If you sign up for JpopDolls newsletter, you will get an email when a doll is up for pre-order.

Oh, Kaye also has a forum called The Resin Cafe' where you can join, and you can discuss any dolls at all, and after you've been a member for so long you have access to the Marketplace where people buy and sell dolls.

      Hope that helps!

      Roni

    28. OMG YAAAAAY~! I saw the JpopDolls cite and Laryssa was on there, but every doll I clicked on had no info after and I was worried! Q~Q I just love their faces so much. Ty!

    29. Tiny Talyssa has been here for over seven months now, and she still doesn't have her replacement hand. So I decided to just get on with it, and make her something special to wear - a Flower Fairy outfit....

    30. Gorgeous!

Shame you're still waiting for her replacement hand though. Have you heard anything?

    31. I tried a few times to contact Grace by email and through the Jpop site, but got no response. I did get through on Facebook a few months back, and was told the factory doesn't like to make replacement parts, but that she just got a HUGE shipment in, and maybe the hand was in one of the boxes. Or I could send TT back. But then I'd be out the shipping and without the doll, and I'd have to pay mega-bucks to replace her on the secondary market, so I declined the offer. Last week Grace said she'd remind the factory again. Personally, I don't understand why she just didn't send a hand off one of the extras right at the beginning, and let that doll be the one waiting.

I was getting rather upset about the whole predicament, and have done nothing with the doll, but my husband convinced me to make her something new, and to start photographing her. After all, it isn't the doll's fault she hasn't gotten a new hand yet. So that's what I'm doing.

    32. Many years ago Custom House wanted me to do that with one of my Petite Ai girls for them to fit the replacement themselves, rather than just sell me a replacement hand. In the end I bought a pair of hands of the same size form a different company and she's had those ever since. Given the situation with Customs Charges in the UK I'd have also been out a cahrge for importing her into the UK a second time when they returned her to me with the replacement hand.

I think your husband is right and also that it's rather cute that she has a plaster on her hurt finger.

Hopefully they won't keep you waiting much longer and her finger will be healed up soon.

      Teddy

    33. @MB Lilac that's such a shame about your TT. To be honest I'm surprised to hear that the little hand hasn't been replaced. (I always thought that the casting company sent extra parts just in case things were broken in transit.)

I do hope that the Talyssa gets her new hand soon.

    39. Mine, too!!

    40. It's such a good idea to propose your dolls in a smaller size. I have not so much space so it's important for me not to buy dolls taller than 35cm. I made and exception for Tobi darkest tan but I think I could eventualy sell it to buy a tiny Tobi instead.
I have a tiny Talyssa too, she is adorable!
      Tiny is cute!

    41. I'd love to replace all my bigger KW MSDs with a smaller version, but they would cost me a lot more than the bigger ones originally did, because I got most of the bigger ones when our dollar was on par, and now we need to add 30% to everything that's in US dollars. Plus, the wait is really off-putting. So my KW collection will stay as it is, with 6 bigger ones and three tinies.

    42. I'm quite happy with my Nettle being SD sized and Willowbark (Sage) being tiny. Space is an issue, of course, but I like the larger dolls too much to give them up, and I much prefer sewing for the larger ones where the scale of the fabric isn't so much of an issue as it is with the tinies.

      Teddy

    43. I find it hard to give up any of my dolls once I have them - even the really big ones. I guess what I meant was that if there had been a choice years ago, I probably would have gone with the smaller sizes, because unlike most people, I actually prefer sewing for the smaller dolls, and I find them so much easier to take out for photos.

    44. Wow, this thread is slow! Meanwhile, three months later, and my Tiny Talyssa finally has her new hands! It just took eleven months - longer than Talyssa herself.

Anyways, now she no longer has to wear a bandaid....and she couldn't wait to show her friends.....
And, just wanted to add, that I did finally gave into temptation, and ordered a Mini Missy. If she takes anywhere near as long as Talyssa did - which is most likely - I'm looking at next August for her arrival.

      • x 5
    45. Glad to hear the hands did eventually arrive - and let's hope the wait for Missy isn't as long!

      Teddy

    46. Talyssa seems to be very proud that the bandage is gone. I love how her friends seem to be a bit skeptical about it all. I adore the tiny Kaye Wiggs dolls.
It takes that long to get an order from Jpop dolls now? Wow, that is a very long time. I'm glad I got the ones I did back in the days of shorter wait times.

    47. Willowbark (my Sage) predates Jpop (as does my Nettle), it's been so long since I actually acquired a Kaye Wiggs doll of any size.

      Teddy

    48. Hi Teddy. I have always thought that Sage was special. Actually, all of Kays's Kids are adorable, but I do have a fondness for the tiny ones.

    49. Mostly in any size, they're the sort of scultps I admire in other people's collections more than I want one of my own, but every so often there's one that I find hard to resist.

I was following the progress of Sage before she was even available, so was happy to get one, Nettle. Well I'm REALY fortunate to have her. Izzy is the middling sized one that got away. I didn't realize how much I liked the sculpt until I saw and handled one in person a few months back and, while they do crop up on the secondary market, I balk at paying those prices for a second-hand doll.

      Teddy

    50. Yes, the wait for anything from Jpop is now at 10+ months. Such long wait times is a real turn off, but sometimes it's the only way to get anything - like the little Whispering Grass animal BJDs, which I love. Although the wait time for the last ones of those was 'just' 7 months. My first Kaye Wiggs doll only took 3 months of wait time, but that was 8 years ago for Cinnamon.

I really like the tiny sizes too. They are so much easier to take out for photos. And I don't find sewing for the tiny size any more difficult - except maybe for inserting the sleeves. I just wish they posed better.

I have an Izzy myself. I never thought I would like her sculpt, but I had her repainted, and she turned out really cute.

    51. Have you tried wiring them?

I think it's one of those sculpts that look even better in person than they do in pictures - I liked her well enough beofre I got to see and handle a friend's one, but that was nothing compared to how much I liked her after.

I often feel that way about Sage too - I think they (my own in particular) generally look a lot better in person than in pictures.

      Teddy

    52. I've not tried wiring (yet). I have a lot of dolls, and my KW tinies don't really get photographed that much. Maybe next time there's a bigger photo session and their posing drives me nuts, I may have to give wiring a try.

It's funny how some dolls do look better in person than in photos. But I also have some that are the opposite, and look amazing in photos, but not nearly as great in real life.

    53. That's how I feel about Willowbark, my Sage. I love how she looks in real life but she never seems to photograph anything more than OK.

      Teddy

    54. My Talyssa finally had her birthday party celebrating a year since her arrival....

    55. How nice - and they all look so pretty in their lovely party dresses too

      Teddy

    56. Thanks! I sew each of my dolls a special birthday dress for their party. Unless it's a boy, of course. They get something else.

    57. Do the 14" Kaye dolls (Mini Size - Hope, Laryssa, Layla and Miki) have another thread? Or do they belong here? Any owner photos?

    58. This thread is so slow, you might as well add them here.

    59. Thanks Martha. I have been out of the KW doll collecting world for a couple of years, focused on another BJD brand.
Anyhow, I adopted a Mini Hope and excited to receive her. Does she share shows with the Iplehouse KID/BID? I am about to look at measurements, but thought owner insight might be helpful when finding shoes. I used to have a Raillie and Millie and thought they had shared shoes with the BID/KID but was not sure how the 11" KW feet compared to the 14" KW dolls.

    60. I have no idea. I caved and have a mini Missy coming at some point, but with the ridiculously long wait, I don't expect her until the end of the summer some time. So I will find out then. But yes, the Illies and Cinnamon can share shoes with the BID/KIDs, although they do fit better into the smaller snug-fit shoes.

Maybe someone else would know about the 14" KW feet.
