Island Dolls Mini Discussion part 1

Thank you Kerantli, Dollzone, I never looked at that company for shoes, terrific. I know what you mean about buying things and being lucky! My Island Doll was the first doll I ever bought. I actually got her full set, but I am not really interested any more in her maid outfit so it is tucked away.

Lullaby wow, I hope it snows here in Maryland soon, I thought it was going to yesterday but no. By the way, I forgot to ask you where you got that lovely sweater your doll is wearing, so appropriate for the snow! Do you have to take her head off to get that on?

Never heard of it before! I wonder if they would want a pic of an Island Doll. They are under-represented. Maybe I will write to them, are you going to? I have to find a good pic.

Alice's collections! I do, but taking her head off is extremely easy in comparison to my other dollies, so it isn't an issue. It's getting the sleeves on that's a bit tricky.

I'm going to submit some dollies to that sight after I take some pictures of Merricat with my mom's camera. (I'm stuck with a point and shoot that...well... I have no control over the aperture, so everything is too grainy! but my mom lets me borrow her DSLR camera, so it's okay)

 

Lullabygame, I have a point and shoot and a Bridge camera. My partner had a DSLR, but he won't let me use it cause it's too heavy for me

 

I'm considering ordering a Lilith doll, and was wondering about wigs (as I noticed some talk earlier in this thread in regards to certain wig sizes being too big). A poster mentioned that their Lilith fit well with 7-8 wigs. Would you gals say this is the best fit for this sculpt? I've got my eye on a few from CrobiDoll that I'm considering for this girl when I order her, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to end up with a wig that was too big, or small for that matter.

 

My Lilith uses 7-8 inch wigs and they fit her very well. She also takes 16mm low dome eyes.

 

I currently have my Lilith in a 6-7 wig that fits snugly. I have had her in a 7-8 before though. I believe the exact measurement for her head is a bit under 7".

 

I've had 6-7 and 7-8" wigs on my Lilith. Each wig company's fit can be a little different! I think she's in a Monique 7/8 right now that fits okay but looks good. This particular style looked too small though the wigcap fit her fine in 6/7, but that's just a personal preference because she's supposed to have a lot of hair. :p

She fits 16mm eyes, too.

Does she not fit the regular high dome eyes?

 

I have my girl in standard high dome eyes, not sure on the exact size though because I bought them off a friend in person and just tried them in to see if they fit OTL

 

Kerantli does your Katie have a nose piercing?

 

She has a stick on gem for a nose piercing. It's a bit big for her, but it's worked for a temporary one until I find smaller ones

 

Ok that is really cool. I never thought of stick ons. *grins* Boy, so small for the nose though. Even a pin head is too large. I really like that though, looks great on her.

 

It works better when she's in her "alternative" outfit, not as much now she was relegated to the purple dress from my other doll, but it still makes her look like Katie

 

Actually I've tried glass high dome (CIG) eyes but they were bulging out of the eye sockets too much. It really depends on the company and the pair. I think some regular dome eyes might work also as long as they aren't super..."pointy." I've also tried low dome urethanes and they fit/looked great. Acrylics are and hit and miss like glass but it's also dependent upon preference. I'm picky about the eye sticking out of the socket (even a little bit) so I go for low domes.

I know what you mean about pointy eyes Guls! I have them for one of my dolls but I have to take pictures carefully.

 

Lol yay I'm not insane for thinking that then! I can't even have the doll out if it has pointy eyes because I always manage to pass by the doll and always look there.

 

As much as I love Katies hair, I think I need a different one for her. Have looked at LeekeWorld, is there any others around that have nice wigs?

 

Most of my dolls are in either For my Doll, Leeke, LUTS, or Napi Doll wigs.

 

Most of my wigs are Monique, but I do have a handmade mohair wig that I originally got for my Island doll Aditi from an Etsy shop. This mohair wig was sewn on to fabric. She only sells them rarely though.

 

I really like the selections and styles that CrobiDoll offers. The one that I have looks great (though I'm still waiting on my doll). In fact I realized that I liked the style of it so much... I ended up getting the exact same on for my Lilith. lol

 

I wiped the face off Katie to do again, she looks very strange right now...

 

EEEEEE sorry for double posting, but I'm so excited!

My mum asked me what I wanted for Xmas, and the only thing I wanted was an ID Lilith. She rang up my partner tonight to ask how to order and now I have Lilith coming!

Wow, that is great, I wonder how long it will take to get your new one.

 

MoC has issued me a refund for my order that was lost by EMS, and a bunch of stuff I had listed on ebay sold tonight. Hopefully next week I'll be able to order my Lilith!

 

My Lilith should be with my mum at some point this week or next week, as she was an in stock one on the UK dealer site I often drool over.
Oh, has anyone got one with a large bust, just so I can see if there is much of a difference between Katies small bust and Liliths big bust?

Wow, it is coming so fast. And Katie is darling, I had no idea she would look good in a black wig.

 

The wig is actually purple, but in many pictures it keeps coming out black (that's even in natural light, which is strange)

Eden finally found clothes she likes! Here she is with my ID51 Cuba. I didn't plan for them to be a couple (and stylistically I never would have entertained the thought), but they just keep gravitating toward each other!

I got Lilith this morning, and she didn't fit into any of the clothing I brought for her! She's bigger than what I was expecting (Katie is around 42cm tall, and my ResinSoul dolls are around the same).

But here she is, in her faceupless glory and "wonky cleavage"

 

I honestly think I've read this thread start to finish 4 times in the past few days while waiting for my account to be approved. *laughs*
I'm a mess of nerves (good ones) and excitement while waiting for my Island Doll Wallace to arrive! He should be here by Wednesday and will be my first doll! (I think I've said that three times already tonight, but I'm just.. ah... it's wonderful anticipation!)
I've followed the Underrated BJD tumblr that was talked about here, I'm definitely going to submit a picture of him to it. Thank you to who referenced it!

And have been marveling at all the pictures here and how utterly utterly unique each and every doll posted looks. Such beauties!!

 

Hey, it's been a while! I come looking for advice today lol.

After spending a long time trying to find a character that would actually stick to my Lilith I finally found one that feels right. The only problem is is that she needs a fitted woman's business suit and I have no idea where to find one that will fit! It seems all the nice mature clothes are only for SDs OTL

So I decided I'll probably need to commission an outfit but I have no idea who to go to that could actually sew for her size since she has the large chest. Any of you know of anyone that works with her size?

I think she's going to need to be restrung, as she feels really tight and one arm isn't posing as well as the other. But that will be a project for next week since I'm moving on Friday and packing needs to happen first. Then we'll need to work on sewing her some pants, since these ones don't close, lol.

Zia89 - I found out that normal MSD clothes work for the Large bust Liliths, slim MSD clothing will not work and be super tight or not fasten at all, specially at 45cm tall.

I still need to figure out who my Lilith is going to be, she won't settle on a certain character/person. I think it may be because shes in snow white skin, so no "human" character will work for her (as much as I'd love a human character that white, it really isn't usual)
Though, speaking of styles, I think Katie has made her mind up on her style...



Just needs a better face up... at some point...

Good to know to avoid slim msd clothes. My current issue is trying to find pants to fit my girl, lol.

Kerantli- she's really pretty. Have you thought about maybe having her character be a sidhe (pronounced shee), they're a type of fairy that often look very human.

I'm look into that Moonhawke, my Lilith (currently named Jess) certainly has an otherworldly look about her, unlike Katie (Amy Maid), who is innocent, but knows how to use men to her advantage..

As for pants, no help there.. none of my girls really wear pants/trousers, plus 4 out of 6 are slim MSDs! (Katie, my MNF and my two ResinSouls. The two that aren't slim MSD is Lilith and my Fect Doll). Plus, I sew them their clothing some times, only way I know they'll fit!

Oh MoonHawke, so glad you finally got your Lilith, had been wondering about that for the last couple of days...

Hi everyone! I've been lurking on this thread, admiring all your beautiful dolls, and now I'm thinking of adding an Island Doll to my wish list. What I'd really love to see first though are owner pics of dolls in dark tan. Can anyone help me out with some spam please?

 

Faye got restrung this evening, and she's posing great! The sueding really helped.

I'm still having some trouble with her sitting though. I wonder if maybe her mobility joints aren't in the correct position?

I've quite enjoyed reading this thread! My first bjd is on layaway, and she is an Island Dolls Lillith in Island skin. :3 it was love at first sight, as as soon as I saw her, I realized that she looked just like my D&D character Oreana. I ordered her with a face up, I'll have to find her a wig and clothes, but I have a few months to figure that all out. I've loved seeing everyone's pictures and I can't wait for her to get here.

I love all the Lilith's and other girls! I can't wait to see yours when it comes in Elske! I have a IslandDoll Crystal coming in via a trade and I absolutely can't wait!

 

I've only had my Lilith since Xmas, yet she was very close to being sold. HOWEVER, I figured out what it was that was annoying me about her. her massive eyes. So I went and got some air drying paper clay to see if I could mod her eyes into something more suited to the way I wanted her. My test mod worked and you can see it here;



With that version of the mod she was in 10mm eyes, which is a big difference to the 18mm purple ones in the unmodded half of that picture. I now have milliput to do it properly.
