Island Doll Discussion

Jan 13, 2011

1. Thanks for that, was good to see the Austin pics.

2. Bit of a random question: does anyone have a doll/pics they could show me of Island Dolls blue resin? I'm curious about it but I'm having a hard time finding good reference pictures.

3. Thinking about getting a Island Doll Eric for my first boy doll. What do you think?

4. I love my Eric in white skin. This is Remi
[IMG]

5. The face looks like Odin or possibly Thor in tan.

6. It does look like him doesn't it? I think they made the cleft in his chin more pronounced...but the nose is definitely similar.

Thank you!

7. Yeah that is true he looks like he has been altered unless someone knows of another Islanddoll sculpt this size. The crease in his lip and his nose are like Thor too, but the wide chin is more like Odin. Islanddoll Amy is a 1/4 female doll, so the combo is funny, in a sad way.

8. Hey guys! I've been scoping out the Island Doll Veranoen and was debating about making him a grail doll. I'm a little put off by the size, though, as I don't really like working with dolls that big, partially because the resin feels weird to me. Does anyone happen to know what the resin of the larger dolls feels like when compared to Luts, Spiritdoll, Soom, Blue Fairy, Dollzone or especially Dream of Doll?

(Sorry for the long list, those are the types I know well enough to comment on...!)

9. I have a WS IslandDoll and a WS Dollzone and they feel the same to me. The resin looks very similar too.
I love the IslandDoll male body they are well made and pose great, I have the 60cm body.

10. Thanks for the quick reply! That's good to hear - I probably won't be able to buy for a couple years (fingers crossed that he'll still be available...!) but from this I'm going to make him a grail doll.

11. ack, lots of big images, sorry D:

jumping on board with some photos of my Island Dolls~ The first is a YO-SD Bobo. I won him from a raffle at a local con in 2011, and when you look at his promo pictures, the difference between the photos and the actual doll are astounding O_O I've never found pictures on the internet of Bobo in detail, so here's a few, with default faceup... I think.

Kyrie genderbends beautifully, and aside from needing restringing and probably a new faceup, he's held up to every sort of abuse for the past four years ^^; I take him with me to various locations and use him in multiple photoshoots since he's so portable. He holds his poses decently for a little doll.

I have two Islanddoll dolls and I gotta say, they pose really well compared to my Ringdoll Armand. The other is an Islanddoll Crystal, Siriana, so if anybody wants detailed pictures or any questions answered about her as well, I can offer up my experiences. Of the three dolls I own, Siriana holds her poses the best. I didn't need to suede either of the island dolls. The one problem is that Siri has a very thin nose, which annoys me since it appears translucent in certain lightings or casts a really sharp shadow, but her captivating eyes make up for it. I also find that both dolls' faceups are decent around the eyes but really lacking around nose/lips. Noses get washed out and lips look flat in photographs. I'll probably have to redo both of them soon because I like me some definition!

For both, resin appears to be a bit on the yellow side in photographs, even under cool lighting.

(a-again, sorry for large images, forgive my newbieness ;n;)

12. Any idea on wait times for Island Doll right now? I think I'm the only one in the waiting room o_o (I ordered directly from them if that makes a difference)

13. Hi, first time posting here. :) I'll be ordering a Norse Myth Odin soon and I need some help with his eye size. His measurements list his eyes at 16mm, but the eyes in his product photos look huge... (way too big for my liking). If anyone has this guy, how do 14mm or 12mm fit?

14. Hello. Owner of Island Doll Amber here. I bought her in environmental resin, island colour. It's fantastic and the pics don't show the real beauty of this doll. From each angle she looks different and she's so much cuter in person.

15. Nice to know! I don't think I've seen any owner pics of Amber.

16. I shall post her pics soon. She really is an adorable doll :) Worth every dollar I spent on her :)

17. Does anyone have this body?

I'd love to know what it's like, and how it compares (size wise) to other bodies...

18. Anybody else having problems with the website? I haven't been able to access it from my cell nor my laptop for several days now.

ETA: Never mind, it's working now :)

19. Hello everyone! I've been looking at Island Doll as they have an option for a Dark Tan skin, but the doll I wanted to purchase doesn't have that option in her list - is there any way to custom order a doll through them?

20. Photodynamic, some sculpts do not have the option for tan. Tan resin is poured at the end of a molds life because it will stain any other casts afterward. Tan may marble and have sanding marks on the seams. There are many reasons why they might not offer it for the doll you want.
Still it can't hurt to ask.

21. My Amber head arrived, so here's some blank-face spam! She's so cute!

22. Thanks, SteamWitch! I wasn't aware how much trouble the tan resin could cause. I do like a lot of the other sculpts they offer, so I might lurk around on the site a bit more before deciding on a different one. I was hoping I could get Vivian in a dark tan, as she's super cute and works very well for one of my characters, but considering the character was originally pale as all heck maybe just their normal tan could work.. hmm..

23. Hey guys. Hope you don't mind me popping in for a bit. I may purchase the IslandDoll Norse Myth Loki in the near future and I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about their 73cm bodies? They look pretty beefy. :D Can't really find many owner photos though.

24. Shes a cutie yumeko-chan :)

I have a WindDoll Dove on order, cant wait to get him. Theres very few owner pictures of the different IS doll lines!
Id like to see some spam if anyone has some :aheartbea

25. Cydril Ooooooh, Dove and Noah are just my dream dolls at the moment, I cannot wait to see your Dove and what you do to see... definitely not enough love for those two!

26. Thanks rain_cloud, I've had my eye on dove for a while too. I went ahead now since they're having the summer sale :)
I hope he gets made soon

27. I have a Noah... it was super hard to find any owner pics at all, so I basically went from the company pics when making my decision, but I was not disappointed. Noah is an awesome sculpt. Mine is a girl.... I hybrided her onto a 5Stardoll girl body. I'm currently in the process of finishing her faceup.
I'll have to keep lurking this thread to see some pics of Dove, who I also love. And maybe other Noahs!

28. Does anyone have a Jonah? I did a search for him on DOA and didn't find any owner pics. I only found a couple of owner pics on other sites.

29. Hey, sorry if this has been asked, I skimmed the previous posts but didn't see anything. I really want the island doll hejin body but since its such a inbetween size I was wondering which head what sort of head I might look for it? A msd, or a yosd on the larger size?

30. @booksen, I imagine it would be hit and miss! For an in between body like that, both 6/7 and 7/8 heads could work, its more about the length of the head matching than the width, if that makes sense. (At least, that was my experience trying heads on the leekeworld art body.)

I got my Dove! Its been dark and raining so I dont have any great photos, but the dark tan resin is AMAZING. If anyone was on the fence about ordering, doo iiit;)

32. They look awesome @Janne !
I considered the sunburn skin, but I went with dark tan because it was discounted.

33. @Cydril - Your Dove is gorgeous. I hope you post pictures of his or her face-up too!
What kind of body did you get? I went with the genderless body, hoping it was shorter, but the legs are actually quite long.

34. I got the genderless body also. I like the look of it,except for the feet and ankles lol.
Do your guys have the company face ups?

• x 1
35. I like the look of the genderless body too, but I agree about the feet. And the arms are less posable than I had hoped.
But I'm very happy with them.
They do have the company face-ups, although I darkened Dove's make-up a little and gave him dark eyelashes. He came with white eyelashes and very pale make up.

36. I'm glad I didn't get the company faceup then.it probably wouldn't have shown up on the dark tan at all!
Also, @SteamWitch (and anyone else wondering about island doll tan), the resin on this doll is flawless, it's totally amazing. I was so used to fairyland tan which is all wonky and sanded to hell; but there is not one seam line or sanding mark on him!

37. @Cydril that is good news about their tan resin, I might be getting a tan Island boy someday.

38. I got them through MintonCard, and they said the Island Doll artist does make make-up adjustments for the different skin tones, but even so I think you made a good decision!

Sunburned is a bit lighter than I thought it might be, a little lighter than Volks Sunlight, but the make-up coloration on mine is very similar to the make-up shown on the normal skin models.

I agree, the finish is lovely on them. No seam lines and a very nice finish.

39. I have Eric in snow white resin and asked for his faceup to be gray tones. I don't know if he would have been gray anyway but they didn't charge me extra for my request. I love his faceup but may change it since he is not the character I bought him to be.
This is how he looks right now.

40. @Cydril, your dark Dove is so beautiful! Definitely hoping that that you post more pics. :3nodding:

41. He's very handsome, SteamWitch! Thanks for posting, I've wanted to see user pics of Eric and would love to see more of your guy! It is a nice face-up, I can see your reluctance to change it. But his face does have such possibilities!

42. Yes he has those amazing lips and a bump on his nose similar to mine though I didn't know it when I bought him. He looks good in dark hair but I don't think I like the gray tones on his lips any more so I guess he'll be getting a new faceup next year. I made his eyes because I couldn't find any glacial ice colored eyes but I will probably buy smaller iris eyes for his new look. The gauges are just stick ons and I took them off once I took this photo.

43. @SteamWitch , Eric is very handsome. He has awesome cheekbones. You made those eyes? That's really cool!

@thedarkeststar13 , thank you! Im excited to do his faceup, but this never-ending rain needs to cease first:lol:

44. Yes I bought DIY eye blanks a few years ago and made the iris inserts in photoshop. Then tweaked the color to just what I wanted. It was fun but I also wasted lots of paper and ink trying to print it at the right size. I eventually figured out how to print it in scale. Eric is a wonderful sculpt.
I love that resin color, it is really beautiful.

45. @Cydril, your Dove is lovely. I can't wait to see what you do~

I recently stumbled on Wind Island Quelle. I think I really like him, but I can't find any information on him. Is he new?..
And it seems like that body he's being sold on is kinda short in the legs. I think he'd make an awesome hybrid on a Dollits DAD body (if the resin matches).

I also quite like Sparkle. She resembles a character of mine, who has Downes Syndrome.

• x 1
46. @PineRain , thank you!
Yes, I think Quelle is brand new. MoC doesn't even have him in yet. I think the body is new as well. Its def not the same as the 1/3 boy body they've had out.
Sparkle as a person with downs syndrome-thats a good idea! He has that type of sweet face.

47. I just looked up Quelle and he is awesome. I love Sparkle too, what a sweet face. The Wind Island line has some truly unique sculpts. Maybe SOMEDAY l'll manage to finish the wig I am making for my Noah girl..... :P Even bald, she's one of my absolute favorite dolls.

• x 1
48. What style and color wig are you making for your Niah @thedarkeststar13 ?

Ive tried a bunch on Naledi and nothing seems to look right!
Dark brown is my fave so far but its still meh...

49. @Cydril--- I like the dark brown wig on Naledi, I can't get over how gorgeous that resin color is!
My Noah is on a 5Stardoll girl body and she's kind of a gothic evil queen type of girl, so I wanted her to have black and purple hair. I picked the most time-consuming wig making method EVER; it's taking so long that I almost regret it but I have gotten way too far not to finish it. I'm actually rooting the hairs onto a tulle hardcap, following this tutorial:
Making lace realistic wig for BJD
I chose that method because I wanted to be able to style the wig in many different ways without having wefts show. I'm sure it will be worth it when it's finally finished, but since I often am too busy to work on it, it's taking a really long time. I absolutely love the Noah sculpt so much though, she's still fun to play with and look at even though she's bald. =)

50. Hoooly crap that looks difficult to do! But I bet the result will be completely awesome :D

51. Bumping this thread to share my Vivian....:3nodding:

54. Just my luck. The two dolls I want appear to be fairly obscure. I hope the Sparkle mold doesn't go out of print before I can get it. I know the chances of seeing a dark tan Sparkle on here are close to nil, so how about spamming any dolls with dark tan skin (or maybe even a Sparkle)?

55. I just sold my Eric, he is going to a new home. I've had him 3 years. He was fun but never worked out as the character I wanted him to be. Now I'm moving on to another doll who will be one of my OCs.

56. @stellarphenomena , she is lovely! Great spring outfit :)

@SteamWitch , sorry Eric didnt work out for you...

@iamkathybrown , I really like sparkle too, but I have never seen any owner photos. I would be more tempted to buy him if they offered a girl body as well.
I have still never taken a decent photoshoot of Naledi since she came back from getting a faceup, but heres a quick shot

57. Thank you! That shade is so lovely and that face up looks great! And yeah, I wish they offered a female body for Sparkle. I was going to get the angel body and dress them like a girl. But sizing looks like it will be a mess.

58. Thank you! Wow, Dove in dark tan...she's gorgeous!!

59. @Cydril I love Naledi's faceup and the dark tan resin is so beautiful.

@stellarphenomena Ugh, Vivian's sculpt is perfection and I love everything about what you've done with her. At this point, I'm pretty sure that Vivian is going to be my second doll.
