Hasn't found here a theme devoted to the big dolls from site IsLand. At me from this site SD (59 sm.) Ania (Ellie).
Just posting some new blank photos I found from Chinese dealers (of the new dolls Jane and Austin). These two new sculpts look very realistic facially. Warning, nudity... @Moymishka - Ellie is so much cuter in person than in her product photos! Do you have any more pictures of her that you can post? I'm trying to find a good match for Island Doll Eric. I don't love any of the company stock photos of the SD sized Island Doll girls, but your Ellie looks great!
X3 Hello~ I just wanted to let yins know that there is now a Island Doll wiki! I must say, browsing through the different dolls 'n at, the SD-sized girls are gorgeous! I'm a particular fan of Vivian!
I'm so glad there is a thread for these dolls. I've been looking at them for some time and would just love to see more owner pics. I like Vivian and Amber.
Hi all you SD owners! I just want to invite everyone to be sure to post your Island Dolls to the Database here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/sh...-Doll-Database It's a fun way to show off your cutie in all of his/her glory! Let's show everyone how amazing Island Doll beauties really are! There are some great pics of Vivian in the database already, But it would be fantastic if any Jane, Karl, Austin, Amber, Eric, Nolan, Aurora, Florian, Damien, or Ellie owners would post their dolls too. It's a great way to help out people who are considering specific SD-sized sculpts, skintones, and faceup options to get a detailed view of Island Dolls so that they feel really confident about investing.
I definitely want to see some pictures of Eric. He's looking so perfect for the next doll I have planned but I always feel more secure when I get to see owner pics.
Not sure when I'll afford him yet but I'm determined to have Nolan and will proudly post photos as soon as possible. I have the Wallace MSD boy and I'm very impressed. I like the feel of the resin and the decent choice of skin colours. I too would love to see any pics of the bigger ones and will be keeping my eyes peeled on here
I'm saving for an Austin now. I have a character who's older than most of mine (he's 33) and that mold is just perfect for him!
I'm looking into an island doll amber myself. I just wanted to know how the owners feel about the resin? Is it really like french? I own a Senior Delf and a few minifee and wondered if anyone was able to give me a bit of a comparison to those (weight feel, fragilness). Also can they wear general SD13 clothes or are they of a special size?
I was trying to find pics of the boy head sculpts and the different Island Doll SD bodies available. I found all the male bodies and blank head photos of Nolan, Eric, and Austin (on said bodies) on the Island Doll website under the 'body pictures' section (http://www.islanddoll.com/en/Product.aspx?ClassId=37&ClassId2=42) in the appropriate size category.
Hi, I'm looking for owner pics of Jane. I love her face - I think she reminds me of someone famous, like a European actress, but I don't know who. So far my searches have turned up zilch. I'll subscribe to this thread anyway. Look forward to seeing other people's dolls.
I have always thought that Jane looked like she was based off of Jennifer Ehle. Jennifer famously played Elizabeth Bennet in Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice (1995) alongside Colin Firth, who played the very dashing Mr. Darcy (and who, in my opinion looks very much like Island Doll Austin [imagine him with dark eyes and hair]). The names of these two dolls may also be a further indicator of their inspirational sculpt origins (Jane and Austin...). Personally, I also think that Vivian looks A LOT like Anne Hathaway. For those who don't know, Anne, interestingly enough, played Jane Austin herself recently in 'Becoming Jane'. Perhaps Island Doll is targeting a specific audience of Jane Austin fans with these lovelies...
I agree. Jane does look like she wandered out of a Jane Austen novel or adaptation! I've been tempted to get her a regency dress just to test her out, but I also have modern ideas for her. I actually thought Island Doll Karl would make an interesting Mr Darcy - if you put him in historical costume. He's on my wishlist too.
I think Karl is such a gorgeous doll. So soft and deep looking, but in that crazy geurilla fighter getup! Such an interesting lip shape too! I wonder who he's based on
I'm glad I found this thread. Saw mention of Island Doll elsewhere, but the link in the Links Out/BJD Companies thread only leads to the Asian-language site, and I couldn't get any pictures of anybody but the tinies!
Are Austin and Karl recent Island Doll releases? I am sooooo interested in seeing them in owner pictures but haven't found anything, so figured they are pretty new. If so, has anyone ordered them??
I was interested in Karl too, but had the same problems finding owner pics. Austin came out the same month as Jane, which was in January, and I couldn't find any Janes at all before I ordered mine!
Yeah, I figured as much. It doesn't seem like they are very popular (yet) but I really like the sculpts on their newer dolls! I think they have potential to look really good and am seriously considering Karl or Austin in the future. And your Miranda is beautiful! She looks even more like Jennifer Ehle like someone here mentioned earlier in owner pics. Since you are obviously an Island Doll owner, how do you like their resin? Probably like most people it makes me a little nervous finding something new being offered.
As I understand it, there are two types of resin available: Canadian EV (which I believe is the one my doll is made of), and Japanese resin (I'm not entirely sure whether this is urethane). But the Japanese resin, when I looked, was only available in a limited number of colours. Whereas the EV resin was available in all. Also, the UK dealer I bought from didn't seem to list the difference between the two, mentioning only EV, so I'm not sure whether Japanese resin is available from all the dealers, or whether you have to ask for it. I have an HZ doll which has a lovely luminous environmental resin, but I'd say the Island Doll EV resin isn't quite as translucent. The Island Doll colour though is lovely and warm to look at. Here's a page at Wind Dolls, the French dealer, which shows a body and the two resin versions available: http://winddoll.creezvotreboutique.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=20&products_id=1460 There's only three colours available in Japanese resin.
Oh wow, I didn't even know about the Japanese resin options! It looks like Mint on Card does not offer it anyways, but I think I would try out the EV resin if I ordered an Island Doll. The thing about the translucence is it worries me that it may be quick to yellow, like French resin is. I agree, the translucence does look very lovely though. Thank you for the information!
I just discovered Jane today and think I might like to have Karl as well. Jane's profile is wonderful; it reminds me a little of CH St .Mina, but I actually like Jane better.
Ha! Karl's the other one I'm after! I might get him soon. I've been dithering. Jane is a lovely sculpt. I can't believe there aren't more of her around. I'll be very happy to see another one.
Thank you for that link. I just got Lilith and I love the translucent quality of the resin. She is my first doll so I can't really compare it to other dolls but I am amazed every time I touch her. I am saving to get Nolan next, I love the moody "lost boy" look of the sculpt.
I saw their little dolls and thought they were cute, but I somehow missed the big ones. Time to revise the wishlist. Just noticed that Mint-on-Card has a generous layaway plan. I think I will need a Christmas doll...or possibly two.
Island Dolls are lovely and wonderful quality. I love their resin. I don't know why the SD size hasn't seemed to have caught on- they are beautiful, well-made dolls. Here is my Trieste- I think I have pictures of her in the gallery somewhere but didn't have time to dig for them: She is a Vivian.
Cirquemom - I remember those lovely photos of Trieste by the harbour. The Vivien sculpt is really lovely. I'm hoping to see more Island Dolls around the boards. I'll have to get my camera out and take more photos of my girl when I get the chance. Might get her a new outfit and wig first though!
Thank you! I tend to photograph my dolls in runs. Lately I've been shooting a lot of my Resin Soul Dai. Trieste had this photo shoot and a couple of other casual ones, then stuck in my doll carrier and kind of forgotten. I think it's time to take her out and get some shots of her-she is so lovely, and that skin is wonderful to photograph. I hope you take more pictures of your doll too and that other people will start posting too! I've noticed there seem to be two kinds of doll collectors. One kind seems to want the dolls everyone else has, and the other kind wants the more unusual sculpt. I definitely fit into the second category, even though do have a number of the more popular dolls, I tend to find myself focusing more on the ones not that many people own.
I recently wanted an "instant gratification" doll and Mint On Card had a pink skin Vivian in stock. I'd been admiring this sculpt for awhile because of her wonderful aquiline nose. I also like her slightly open mouth. She reminds me of CH St. Mina. I didn't realize that the resin had a translucent quality until I got her, but it is quite lovely. The wig she came with--long wavy brown hair--suited her, but I didn't care for the orange-ish eyes so I switched them to a darker color. Mira by bentwhisker, on Flickr
Thank you for posting those- I like the brown with the best, and I put brown eyes in mine too. She just seemed to demand them. Such a wonderful, expressive sculpt and I love the resin. It almost reminds me of those antique dolls that were a had of wax over the porcelain or whatever they were made of. Well...that's it, I need to get Trieste out and let it be her turn for a while!
I have 2 Sd island girls. A Vivian and a Amber. I love the islandoll bodies. Both my girls stand like a rock. I want to get Jane next. So I love to see pictures of Jane. This is my Annabeth (islandoll Vivian) and this is my Rachel (islandoll Amber default face up)
Thanks for posting those pictures! The Island doll SDs are so underrated and underappreciated. They are beautiful dolls and pose just great. Really lovely sculpts.
It's funny, but it seems like I am always drawn to the more unusual dolls. But then I get annoyed because I can't find other owner pictures. Your Miranda is really pretty!
I agree your Miranda is very beautiful and thank you for posting the links of her. Is nice to see the dolls from the owners. All the islandoll stores show the same picture. I thought I'd share a couple of links to pictures I did of my girls. Annabeth (ID Vivian )(this is her is a wedding dress I made her. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?468814-Wedding-Album-(IslandDoll-Vivian-) Rachel (ID Amber) Fall settings. I just got her on Oct 2nd. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?478219-My-Fallen-Angel-(Islandoll-Amber)
This is my Island Doll Jane. She is called Tabitha ^^ She now has long pink hair but I don't have a photo to show you all.
She's beautiful! Great to see another Island Doll Jane! I cannot believe there are so few of them around!
I think lots of people would rather have ore stylized dolls so the realistic proportions of Jane's face might put them off. I really need to try experimenting with her more because I still haven't settled on a look for her yet.
Wau, I love yours Jane dolls :-) My friend wanted to order from Island doll, but didnt get any response from them. How was your comunication with them? We did send them to emails but nothing :-( Its already more than month.
Edwardsgoldeneyes- if you haven't gotten a response, did you try again? Sometimes emails get lost. I hope there is nothing amiss with the company, they make such lovely dolls.
edwardsgoldeneyes - I ordered through Mint On Card Inc. and there were no issues at all. I didn't contact the company directly so I can't be of help in regards to the communication issues and I ordered her many months ago now so even if I had contacted I wouldn't be able to comment on their current situation.
linakauno -Karl looks like a beautiful doll. He is my favourite of the Island Doll boys though I haven't seen any owner pictures yet. If I were to buy another male doll I think he would be the one I'd buy.
Two new Island Doll SDs: Eleanor and Louis Eleanor: http://www.islanddoll.com/en/show_Pro.aspx?ProId=143 Louis: http://www.islanddoll.com/en/show_Pro.aspx?ProId=142
hi everyone, i really like the new dolls released by island dolls but the last island doll i saw - she was a msd i think she was called amy - was in white skin that was really see through and i found that a little off putting. can any of you tell me when the resin ages does it age like french resin and go nice and creamy? or does it stay the same? also is it more see through on their white skin tones than other skin tones they offer? i own a limhwa half elf who is made from french resin, she is an older doll i love the way her resin has mellowed and creamed and im hoping it will be the same with island dolls resins! any information is greatly recieved as i do really love their sculpts im just worried about their resin not mellowing.
I've bought my Island girl via an UK dealer with no issues at all and she actually said that the lady at Island is very nice and communication is great. Maybe you'll have better luck going through a dealer?
Can't really tell since my girl is pretty new. Her skintone is Island and the resin is what they call 'environmental resin' which I presume is the same as French resin but not really sure. I don't find her translucent and the skintone is pretty pale, especially after coating with MSC. But I've seen owner pictures of dolls on the 'snow white' skintone and that one is pretty translucent - facial features look quite blurry.
Okay, so! I'm really wanting to get an Island Doll Amber. I think she's absolutely adorable. My friend and I are trying to figure out some things about them, since they're a fairly unknown company. My big question is: Can the Island Doll girls wear the normal SD13 size clothing? My sewing talents are nil so I don't want her to be naked as I attempt to make something.
They are pretty average sized so I would think normal clothes would fit. They are such beautiful dolls- that environmental resin isn't transparent, it just has some depth to it so it looks alive. The only thing I can compare it to is if you have ever been to a wax museum and seen those figures and how real the skin looks. It's kind of like that.
You can buy them in regular urethane resin also. When I finally get around to buying my Jane (this year, I hope), I'm buying her in urethane resin so she will match the rest of my dolls.
