Iplehouse Kid K.I.D. 35cm discussion part 5

Speaking of knitting, I spent most of January making some new outfits for dolls that needed them. These two sweater sets are for my two new KIDs who have yet to be painted - Angela and Paige - but Lisa and Peach agreed to model them for me....

 

@MB Lilac - Darling outfits on your pretty girls! What shoes are they wearing?

I have a light brown Angela, and a normal Paige. They just need to be painted.

 

If I were a doll I'd want to be at your house MB Lilac. They are all so beautifully dressed.

especially the fantasy outfits! though the everyday ones are lovely too. looking forward to seeing your new girls. i have a paige coming too, though i'm not in a huge rush to get her as it is far to cold for faceups here right now

I think new addition. They bill it as their 'second brand' so it could mean they consider the CREAA and their usual lineup are separate entities entirely in their minds. Either way nice to see more KID's and clothing any day

looking forward to seeing celina done up. i'm not sure about having a younger face on that body instead of a bid, but the blank sculpt looks promising. of course unless our dollar suddenly goes up, there are no new dolls in the cards for me right now. at least i will have paige to play with when it gets warm enough to sculpt/paint her

 

Sooo...I haven't been to this site in ages and hadn't been keeping up with doll news, so I almost missed Iple discontinuing two KID sculpts that had been on my list (Ah-ra and Milly).

Milly is no problem as I wanted her in one of the standard skintones anyway, but I wanted Ah-ra in either ebony or light brown, and now it's too late. I saw a few pages back that LB is available as a head, but then I'd have to figure out how to get a matching body at a later date.

Any thoughts on which option might work better?
A) Get whole-doll Milly and a head for Ah-ra in LB, then deal with probably having a floating head some time in the future, after I manage to get a body for her. I hate floating heads, but at least the skin tone will be what I wanted. Plus, it's cheaper up front for what is definitely an unplanned expense.

B) Get whole-doll Milly and whole-doll Ah-ra but in RS, then hope she can pass as a biracial child like I wanted. No floating heads involved here, but I may not be happy with the skin tone and the cost is more up-front.

I do have some RS dolls, hence my doubts that she could pass for biracial in that skintone, but I've never seen LB in person either.

 

third option if you are really brave is to get ah-ra in rs and then dye her a deeper tone... there is lots of info on dyeing dolls on some of the project/workshop threads if you want to explore that option.

the lb is really pretty, but i was disappointed in the stability of the color. my lb lonnie turned very green, and unfortunately unevenly on all the skin surfaces that were exposed at all to light. this unevenness has made it hard to figure out how to fix her. she was on display in a room with closed curtains and none of the other dolls around her were affected significantly

 

wasn't your Lonnie and older resin? (the one with french added)

also could order the discontinued head now, a full doll next month and offer the head in a split?

 

i didn't think they did the kids with french resin? but i got her in 2013 if that helps.

this was how she looked shortly after she arrived (after her second faceup). and she was the doll that got me to switch sealants on my faceups after she got white-faced from mr super clear !

hmmm 2013 was the year of the change and french was added to 'colors' not sizes. PG and darker... white and normal 'never' had french (this was all explained somewhere BY IPLEHOUSE). but that was the year i started soI was still learning then lol.

 

i remember them changing the peach color several years back, i got a lisa in peach gold right after they changed it to a more matte color, and i was so disappointed. but i don't remember anything about the french resin. not that it means anything since i tend to be really bad at tracking that sort of thing...

 

it was important to me because i had bought a body when they changed to the ones with no visible hip strings... that body was in the old resin... i got Dexter soon after and he was in the new 'no french'... the issue was iple could not source a 'french' suplier... since i got them intending to share the bodies (hero and model) i was painfully aware and was always searching for the info. It WAS in the notices at the time.

 

They changed their resin formula in December 2013, but didn't publicly explain it until June 2014. They announced it in Notice #87 - look in 'Notice', under 'Support', on their website.

Then they introduced their new Glow skin in November 2015 - Notice #130

What does everyone think of the new girl? She looks completely different in the two resin colours. My first reaction to the white resin Celina, was that she looked just like BIDs Bono and Ellia, and would be the perfect older sister for either of them. But then when I scrolled down to the PG version, she looked almost exactly like Paige. They look like such different dolls.

 

It's the eyebrows and the mouth, face up B is made to strongly resemble Paige, the first makes the mouth smaller and the eyes sweeter.

I love the outfits though, it's a pity they're limited!

 

The light brown you will get if you order now may look something like my Chloe's:



Her resin is a shade darker than the 2014-15 light brown resin, since Iplehouse changed their light brown to a darker shade last spring.

I haven't encountered any greening or yellowing problems with any of my LB dolls made in the French resin formula, or in the post-2014 formula. I have a LB KID Joy from 2012 who, as far as I can tell, is still the same lovely shade she was when she first arrived. With more than ten Iplehouse LB dolls living here, in resin formulas from 2011-2016, some of which were purchased on the secondary market, I've had no issues to date with color instability.

Personally I would go with option A. I wouldn't think it would be impossible to re-sell an extra head.

 

I'd probably do option A as well, just because I tend to be disappointed when I wanted one thing and compromised on another.

As far as the biracial skintone goes, biracial people come in all sorts of colors, so I think that is up to you. Just in my family: I am Caucasian and a very similar shade to real skin. My daughter and husband are mixed Mexican and white and are the same color as me. My nephews are mixed white and Mexican and all have very fair skin. My other niece and nephews are mixed African American and white. One is the same color as me, the hubby, and the daughter, while the other two are a similar darkness to us but a different shade. I didn't mean that like a 'teach you about social issues post,' lol, just that I think you have the freedom to decide any shade you want for your character. I know RS seems to photograph lighter than it is in real life, so if you have your heart set on a darker skin in photos, light brown might be better.

Have you considered contacting Iplehouse and asking if they can make a way for you to order Ah-ra whole in light brown? Odds are they will say no, but it couldn't hurt to ask!

 

Thanks everyone I thought about asking Iplehouse if I could order a whole doll, but with only a few days left, I don't want wait too long and risk missing her completely.

I do agree that RS, while it is beautiful, photographs way too light, and I really want this character to look darker. I think I'm going to get just the head in LB, along with Milly as planned, and run a split for a body in April or so.

 

unfortunately on my girl it is impossible to miss. the parts of her that were bare are a distinctly different color than the parts under her clothes/shoes. if she had greened evenly it would have been easier to deal with. i have tan dolls of various shades from other companies and haven't had a problem with any of them yet. but this was so bad i haven't been willing to risk another iplehouse brown, since. it was especially disappointing since i loved the color to begin with and it worked so well on my lonnie


if you are going to run a slpit to get the body @Zardi i would do it sooner rather than later just in case they change the resins again.

 

Hi I'm new to this thread. I've wanted a boy Joy since they were first released and iple forced my hand, and I've finally ordered one. I got him in NS though I originally wanted him in RS, but I have two dolls in that colour already and they are the old French resin which I love the tone of. And I prefer the pics of Joy in NS. My only thing is now I'm wondering if I should have gone for the glow skin. I have an SID in the matte PG and I'm not the biggest fan of its tone. Does anyone have a KID in the normal glow skin they can share pics of? Doubt iple will let me change my order though.

In regards to light brown. I've got two dolls since the change, Hazel was from the first non French batch and I don't like her tone but hope to buy her again in the future. I did have a lb doll previous and the colour was so much richer, which was why I am partly disappointed with Hazels colour. Little Ryan was some months later in 2014 and is a lovely malty tone.

 

just a side note about glow and WHITE & NORMAL... those two colors neverused the french additive... Only colors PG and darker did... if that makes any diference.

 

Oh yes I know. I just liked the look of glow in the pics better and I've not had an iple in NS before. If the resin is like my minifee then it will be no problem.

 

I'm not sure if you are referring to the color or some other quality of the resin, but Iple's Normal skin is paler than FairyLand's normal but not as pale as FL's beauty white.

Sorry i'm really rubbish at explaining myself. I didn't like how flat and solid PG looked in person, Halle looks better now she has mellowed. Oh that's good, sounds as if i'll like it.

My first thought was how much like Paige she is (especially in the second photo) . . . She could make a perfect twin though.

@DancingBee & @desertmountainbear Thanks so much! I love the way the old peach gold looks again purple. I think they really complement each other. This tree blooms for about two weeks every year, and I can't resist running out and taking as many pictures of it as possible.

@auntbear Our weather has been crazy. We have had about 3 weeks total of cold weather all winter, and it's been sporadic. I hope your snow passes quickly.

Love Celine. TO me, she looks like Paige, but maybe a little less quirky. I was surprised to see them come out with a sister and usch a similar sculpt in the same size. I figured it would be more likely to have one in the BID size.

Tried a bunch more wigs on my Paige, and decided I like Peach's wig the best....

...although I also liked the short blonde Roxie.

It's my favourite of all the ones I tried on her. But it also looks best on Peach. It's from Iplehouse, and I just ordered a KID earlier this week, so I should probably see if I can add that wig to my order.

My last order took 6 weeks, but that was two light brown dolls ordered during their Christmas event. Blank with clothes. Usually my orders take less time.

She is my first Iplehouse doll, i know iplehouse dolls are very beautiful more than in pictures, i'm very happy for this doll eheh but i'm a little worry because the size, do you take outfits for her particular size in a specific shop (which shop) or do you prefer do it by yourself?

Hello! I have an Ah-ra coming too, so no pictures yet. Mine is a boy, whom I'll name 'Aaron'.
I sew all my own doll clothes, but hate making pants, so wish there was more choice available out there for those.

 

Congrats on ordering Ah-ra! I have my girl in an outfit made specifically for an Unoa Chibi and that fits nicely so that is an option and I think Dollmore Narsha stuff should fit too.
