Iplehouse Kid K.I.D. 35cm discussion part 5

May 25, 2016

    1. It's nice to see some KIDs as boys.

    2. My Ryan from way back in 2010 was advertised as a boy!

    3. I think both Peach and Joy were advertised as boys as well.

    4. Ah, Ricky is so cute. I like his hoody and hat!

    5. Peach is 'currently' shown as a boy, Irene has a 'boy look' but it's still quite feminine, Lonnie has a boy look,
Paige, Angela and Lisa do not even have a version show at all. Not even in 'style up'. Makes me wish we could 'donate' lol

    6. It would be nice if they'd show KIDs as both girls and boys. It would certainly help us picture roughly what they'd look like. I really like Daisy, but can't decide if she'd work as a boy.

    7. I agree and also the face up with different color resins. It is hard to visualize a face up on normal resin when it is shown only on white.
I have to depend on the company face ups.

    8. You probably already know this so sorry for a repeat but on Page 24 of this thread, DancingBee has a photo of Daisy as a boy if that helps any. He's a real little cutie.

@Oliveoil - I agree on company photos and trying to figure out which color might enhance or worsen a face-up. I was actually wondering how Celina make-up A might look with the normal resin. Not sure if it would add or detract from her unique beauty and styling.

    9. Thanks for reminding me. I went to look, and her Daisy looks more 'boy-like' than any other KID I've seen.

    10. I do remember that the first few KIDS were advertised as both girls and boys and they even have several face-up options with at least one passable as boy, but since then... all girls! Not that I have anything against KID girls, they are adorable and I would also love to have a girl KID one day (most probably Paige - I love her rather unique features and that smirk of hers!), but most probably, she would be rather tomboyish, hehe ;)I do not plan on getting another boy KID, but I love seeing them. And I really think it would be cool if Iplehouse would produce a boy KID with slightly narrower head (is it just me or do the KID heads really all have almost the same round face with some slight variations in chin?), smaller eyes and mischievous smirk :aheartbea

Thanks for the picture, Martha! I especially like your Aaron, he is a cutie:love I visit your web quite often, it is such an inspiring eye-candy :thumbup

Thank you, @Oliveoil! :) I am quite proud of these two pieces, though the hoody has some issues I have to fix next time :sweat

    11. I know I keep asking this (sorry) but by any chance has anyone seen a real life photo of KID Mia? I'm not on Facebook so I can't look there but I haven't been able to find an owner's photo anywhere and I would love to be able to see how she looks "in hand" so to speak. It helps me to pick up on details I might not see in the IH photos.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks!

    12. Oh Nancy...I am right there with you. I have searched and cannot find a "real" photo of Mia.
The new BID is a cutie. I was told the Limited KID will be offered in December. I keep checking.

    13. That new BID is adorable but to me, the faces are looking a lot alike lately. Coy 's faceup is very similar to Mia's. When I look through older photos, it seems the sculpts and faceups had more distinction between them.

Thank you Anita for the heads up on when the new KID will be released. I've been debating back and forth to order from the sale or wait. By any chance did they say what the character would be?

      Decisions decisions......lol

    14. They did not say the character but I assume it will be a new face sculpt. I agree the face ups are looking very much the same. :(

    15. In my opinion, it's not just the faceups, but the sculpts themselves. They all look so much the same, I'd be willing to bet they are all by the same sculptor. I prefer the older sculpts where there's more variety, especially with the BIDs.

    16. I agree completely. It's like there's one sculpt starting with Faline and they just keep sizing it up and down.

Guess I watch too many old movies b/c I keep hearing Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard talking about how "they had faces...."

    17. Yes they seem to be very similar and face ups too simple. I agree the old sculpts had more variety.

LOL!!! Now this was funny. I loved that movie. :)

    18. the mono sculpt trend had been going on for a long time... in all sizes. HID Calix was one of the last ones with any character and even he was too much like existing sculpts... About the time the CREAA line came out things started to lose 'distinction' and then they did the face up 'update' and then the face ups started so 'slide downhill'... in my opinion....

    19. I guess that explains why I've not been tempted to buy anything the past years, other than maybe an older sculpt I don't already have.

    20. @Lady Tiku I agree. Thank god for the classic faces and new sources to get sculpts of the sculptor who did the last interesting sculpts. But even if I haven't been tempted by any of the new faces for exactly the same reasons I love my old ones.
I think they did not only lose the sculptor, they seem to have switched to 3D modelling faces. They look like the same faces with a couple of tweaks here and there - voila, new release.

My Dots got a new pair of bib overalls today. Dotted, of course.[IMG]

    21. I definitely see similarities but I also see diversion. In the KID line I thought Beau, Daisy, and Celina were quite different and enchanting.

    22. @ResinRapture I love your Dots. Did you do the face up? Freckles are great.
Where did you find the overalls pattern. I have some corduroy and would like to make a pair for my girls. Super cute!

    23. Thanks @Oliveoil I did, and I made the pattern. It's the Kid's pants pattern from my blog with an added bib.

    24. Thank you! I have a bib pattern I could use. I enjoyed the pattern making on blog. Great idea...I may have to try this. :)

    25. @ResinRapture they didn't lose just one... they lost 3 or 4 almost at the same time >< but Satorial(sorry forget how to spell) just sent out emails about THEIR new sculpt and it's comparability with EID and SID men... and could work with RS and PG.. I have to find the email again that's all i can recall atm lol. What I 'can't' remember at all is was Zako a sculptor too or just make up? And using 3D would definitely explain a lot towards being so similar...makes sense if they begin on the same 'base'.

This I will agree with... the KID line seems to have got the best in recent diversity. Only somehow they don't fit in as well with the overall look when with the bigger dolls? if that makes sense? lines are too soft/smooth?... i find myself at a loss for descriptors...

Yes, the KID line suffers from "scale" issues with the bigger dolls, imo....but they are really cute and I still love them. They are a fun size.

    27. To me the KIDs have a different head shape proportion. They have really small faces on the lower half of a rather large head - just like really young children. If you put them beside a BID, BIDs have bigger faces on a similar sized head, although the BID head shape is more realistic. The KIDs have really big upper/back heads in comparison, which makes them hard to wig in a realistic scale, especially the boys.

That being said, I still love them, and have ordered a Daisy boy.

I just wish Iplehouse offered a less 'feminine' basic hand for the boy body option.

    28. @luluna You're right about those KIDs - I especially love little Beau's sculpt. Wish her face-up wasn't so heavy (not so much blushing on the cheeks) but she's definitely on my wish list.

@ResinRapture Dot looks adorable in her overalls! I can just imagine her playing outside having all sorts of fun and adventures : )

@MB Lilac Congrats on boy Daisy! Looking forward to seeing how you style his character : )

    29. Thank you for allowing me to join.
About a year ago I purchased Lonnie from Iplehouse and. Sheโ€™s beautiful, but Iโ€™m not crazy about her eye color. I had hoped to get the green, or light blue, even. She does have blue eyes, but are so dark they look almost black.
I would like to change them out, but I have no idea what Iโ€™m looking for as far as size. I think Iโ€™d like to get glass, but I donโ€™t even know where to start looking. There are so many companies out there my brain just ends up scrambled.
I donโ€™t want to have to order all the way from across the sea, but if thatโ€™s what I have to do, then Iโ€™ll do that.
I would love to get some crocs for her as well, but they donโ€™t seem to exist except for the ones pictured on other peopleโ€™s dolls.
Any input from you would be greatly appreciated.

      Thank you in advance!

    30. You can find some reasonably priced glass eyes on eBay, which is a good place to start. Lonnie use size 12 mm eyes.
As for crocs, often they are from keychains and it is what youโ€™re probably seeing. And usually MSD or SD size, no where close to Lonnie size. She is a YOSD.

    31. Thank you for that...it already answered a few questions.
      Does YOSD stand for something?

    32. I personally love Makoeyes, which are urethane resin, but your milage may vary. Lots of places sell glass eyes at fairly reasonable prices, so try looking for a dealer in your country to save on shipping times. I've also gone the route of purchasing some (very) inexpensive acrylic eyes to test colors and sizes before, both online and from a local doll show; that's how I found out that I prefer my souldoll girl to have 12mm small iris or 10mm eyes instead of the company recommended 12-14mm eyes.

If you're in the US, I know denver doll has some glass eyes. If you're not crazy about them, though, it's usually worth your wait to order some from overseas.

The SD in YOSD stands for "super dollfie". I can never remember what the YO stands for. It refers to one of the earlier BJD makers who more or less set the standards for sizing. It's a more general term than KID and usually refers to childlike dolls between 25-35cm tall. 1/6 scale is also sometimes used, although not exactly accurate; my YOSD is (very) approximately 1/4 the size of a human child in body measurements.

    33. "Yo" is Japanese. It means "young", like infant to toddler size.

    34. You can look at Sprouty! It's made in the USA and I think they are pretty affordable. She had sales before so you could wait for those sales. She also has an account here so you'll see when she brings the sales back.

Edit: Also she sells kits to make your own eyes so if you don't like any of them you can make your own. Either get a full kit with eye base and supplies to make it your own, or just get the base and use whatever you have at home.

Basically to find the things you need you may need to do some looking around. But this forum has helped me find all sorts of stores.

    35. "YoSd" is the general term used for BJD around 24-30cm. Yo- meaning baby or young, and SD- 'Super Dollfie', what the original Line of BJD from Volks are called.
I am seconding ebay for glass eyes. Theres a good selection and they're generally cheap. I dont know if Ive ever seen yosd size crocs, but if you search 'BJD espadrilles' on etsy theres a seller there that makes crochet shoes that sort of look like crocs :)

    36. Affordable Designs sells all kinds of colours of crocs, the perfect size for BIDs and KIDs. I have quite a few pairs for my dolls. They call them 'Frog Shoes'....

    37. Thank you for posting this! Great shoes. Fun colors!

    38. You know, youโ€™re the reason I had to get me a Lonnie and have to have some crocs!
I made her a a beautiful tebitan mohair wig yesterday. Made some modification and some mistakes, but I love the way it turned out. Thank you for the inspiration and instructions!

    39. LOL. Lots of people blame me for getting them into this hobby. The more the better, I say!

    40. I found the frog shoes. It seems they only sell the one size. They are for Leeann.
I canโ€™t find where I saw it, but I think somewhere it said the shoes were 1.5 inches.
Are these the ones that will fit my K.I.D?

    41. Yes, the ones for Leeann fit the BIDs and KIDs.

    42. Thank you so much. Iโ€™m so excited!

Also, thank you all for all your help and suggestions!

    43. You're welcome!

    44. She's very lovely. :thumbup

What a pretty girl. Love those rose bloomers! :love

      Congratulations Martha!

Oh I agree, my boys are quite feminine to look at and could easily be girls if I just changed their wigs.

    45. @Xanadu Dolls - Thank so much! I just adore those bloomers. (I want a pair for me!) :XD:

    46. Got a shipping notice, that my Daisy boy is on the way. It's always bittersweet since my dolls come blank, and it takes a while for them to get painted.

    47. Nora (Lonnie) in a newish dress from LuminaraDesigns on Etsy. I just loved the colors

    48. And a very pretty Nora she is! The dress suits her colouring. :)

    49. Just an FYI I believe the Leeann Frog shoes are on sale this week

    50. She is beautiful! The dress is perfect. Very dramatic!

    51. Thank you for the sale tip. :)

She is so beautiful in her new dress!

A new arrival at my home, that I do not think I have shared here - Daisy

    52. Love your Daisy! Especially her eyes! She looks so bright and cheerful.

I got a boy Daisy during their Event, and can't wait to get him painted and dressed.

    53. Laurie, your Daisy is adorable!

    54. She is very pretty! So glad to see you collecting KIDS. :)

    55. Hey everyone :)
I'm unsure if it's really Irene so I would like to ask if someone knows for sure who this girl is:

      Thanks!
