Iplehouse Kid K.I.D. 35cm discussion part 4

Aug 24, 2014

    1. The photos of Paige are really tugging at my purse strings. I made a sale and can now afford her. The problem is Iple's heavy use of red blush in her face-ups. Love Face-up B, don't love the sunburned look. If I ask them for less blush, do you think they'll charge for a "custom" face-up?

    2. That's the issue I had with Bono. Her cheeks are just too red and I'm so wishing that I'd realised it to mention something when I ordered her.

That being said I don't think they'll charge for it as a custom face up as I've asked for lighter shades on things like lips and cheeks on Bliss and a few my others and they've been happy to do it if that's the only change :) Maybe just send them a message in Q&A before you pay to ask if it's possible to make the colour of the cheeks a paler shade or less of it, they'll confirm for you so you're 100% confident ;)

    3. I'm going back a tad now (2012) but when I ordered my LE EG Bianca, I asked for Face up B but asked could they make the lips a shade darker and they replied that I would have to purchase custom make up if I wanted to change anything. I thought it was a bit unreasonable.
I also had a friend ask for her Bianca to have make up B but without the freckles and they told her the same.
As I said, that was a few years ago now and perhaps they've relaxed how rigid they were back then. I'd say, if it makes a difference to you, you'd be wise to ask before you order.

    4. Eilidh: She is gorgeous. Did you make her outfit - if so, what fabric did you use?

    5. @Forever @EmeraldPixie The last 4 dolls I ordered from them came with heavy red blush. Usually I order without thinking much about it, then I do a double take when I open the box. I know that red coloring in the resin is the first thing to fade, but red makeup is overkill. You're both right--I need to ask before I order. Thanks!

    6. i checked my Edan order... had to make it custom when I asked for the under eye shading to be not so heavy... and with the way they are and all the extra heads... I would just pay the custom and not have to argue with them.

They have bent the rules so much lately I don't think I'd push things.

    7. I'm kind of tempted to get her blank and then see if I can get a slot with a face-up artist. They're so inconsistent with their rules that you never know what you'll get for an answer.

    8. Beautiful Paige's! She is much prettier in person. So tempting. How long is wait time with IP these days?

    9. My Paige was PIF on the day I ordered, and she took just under a month to ship, a month and a day by the time I received her.
I've seen some dolls taking no more than two-three weeks, though... even some with faceups.

    10. Thanks! It is nice to not have a 2 month wait. She is tempting. :)

    11. Since the talk is about Paige, I thought you may like to see one with a custom faceup. We finally had a day good enough to use the MSC. Her eyelashes are due tomorrow. She only took a month to come, I have had her for a couple of weeks. I modded her ears, she is now and elf. This is my first doll from Iplehouse, and I am so impressed with them.

    12. THAT is a beautiful Paige :aheartbea:aheartbea Congrats and enjoy her.

    13. Oh she's gorgeous! Paige is such a terrific sculpt.

    14. Thank you, I think she is such a pretty and realistic sculpt.

    15. She looks great! It's nice to see her with an 'artist face up' instead of the Iplehouse ones. I think she'd also make a great boy.

    16. Thank you. When I first received her without faceup, that was my exact thought, she would make a great boy.

    17. Love Paige's face-up, @desertmountainbear ! I think I like it better than Iplehouse's face-ups. She looks so natural. Is that an ear tip I see on the right in the photo? Do you have a photo that shows the modded ears better?

    18. Thank you vermont chick. Here is a better look at her ears. Only elves live here.

    19. Great job on the ears! What did you use to sculpt them? The skin color is such a good match that she really looks like she came that way from Iplehouse. Love her!:love

    20. she looks wonderful desertmountainbear. very similar to how i imagine my paige boy should look. thanks for confirming that it will work :)

    21. Oh I love her J, she's gorgeous! You've done a great job of her ears and face-up. :love I'm glad you only have elves. :thumbup

    22. Thank you for the comments on Paige. I am glad you like her ears too.
vermont chick, I use Apoxie Sculpt. It is a mess to work with, it is sticky, so I do most of the work with a dremel after the ears have hardened.

    23. Apoxie Sculpt is miserable to work with. To me it feels like trying to sculpt with chewed gum. But once it's cured it's amazing to modify by sanding or carving. Plus it's super strong. What colour Apoxie did you use?

    24. I used white because that is what I have around here. I use it for bear claws. I tinted it with acrylic paint before I sculpted, but that even makes it more of a mess. After, I painted with watered down acrylics. I do that in layers, the thin paint leaves no brush strokes, and also helps to fill in any inconsistencies in the epoxy. Then I sprayed with MSC, and moved on to her faceup.

    25. @desertmountainbear : I've just spent a most wonderful half hour drooling in your Flickr. What a fabulously talented person you are. Your dolls are lovely but your bears are breathtaking. I adore them and your photographs are amazing.
Thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

    26. Oh my goodness, thank you. I appreciate your visit and your comments. The dolls are my fun, the bears are business.

    27. looks like the next tool i need to invest in is a dremel then. i have apoxy sculpt but have never gotten around to using it. there has always been too much else on my too do list.

    28. @auntbear I don't know how long apoxy sculpt stays workable, but I'd suggest using it before too long. I bought some ceramic air dry clay a few years ago and didn't get around to using it. It was well packaged so I figured it was okay. By the time I opened the container, all I had was a ceramic rock. Some of these products need a shelf-life warning.

    29. I had the two containers of Apoxie Sculpt for many years, and they stayed perfectly workable. Although one of the two parts did develop a bit of a crust along one side. Air dry clay is an entirely other thing. I don't do a lot of sculpting, so my Paperclay dried into a rock. But with some water and kneading, it ended up being reconstituted and perfectly workable again.

I find the Apoxy very challenging to work with, so would suggest just mixing up a small bit and playing with it in order to get the feel of it. It does take some getting used to. I've learned that the best way to work with it is to make something that's somewhat close to what you want your end product to look like, and then sand and carve afterwards. It's also a good idea to just add small layers at a time, and when you are happy with something, just put it aside and let it cure, so you don;'t end up over=working and ruining it.

And just so we aren't totally off-topic, here's Miles posing with his cake and friends on his birthday.

Much of the dragon's facial details are Apoxy, added and built up just a little at a time.
