Iplehouse Fashion Doll Discussion - Part 6

Mar 7, 2018

    1. Hello everyone~ I'm going to be getting an FID Mari soon~ (I can't wait I love her sculpt. Fell in love with the SID version but that's too big a doll for me right now XD) but I had a few questions before I committed ^^. If they were answered before I apologize. This is my first time back to the site and the doll hobby after YEARS of being away and searching for things has proven a little difficult lol, so any pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as well :)

      Ok so I've been wondering~

Would a 6-7 inch wig fit ok on her head? I've been having SO MUCH DIFFICULTY finding a light purple/lavender wig in her size (5-6) but I found a nice one that's 6-7. Her head size seems to be 15cm which is RIGHT on 6in so I'm wondering if it'd fit with that.

Next, is 8mm too big an eye size for her? Back when I had my old dolls I tended to choose bigger eye sizes, but I'm not sure how they'd look in this size doll. Should I stick to 6mm? If anyone had any comparison pics that'd be super helpful =D

And finally, where's a good site to get clothes for her? Iplehouse itself has a couple nice outfits for FIDs, one of which I'm going to get for her when I buy her, but I'd like more options if possible =3.

Sorry for the bombardment of questions! ^^

    2. Hi @KatKitoshi congrats on making the decision, Mari is beautiful and so sweet! I really think a 6-7 wig will be far too loose :( I find the size 5-6 fits much better. You have to pull it down, but it stays and looks more natural. That's my opinion, you might like things bigger?? Here are my girls in unknown maker unless the etsy seller actually made them??

      [IMG]FID_Group8 by ingiebee, on Flickr

This one and this one are monique 5-5 Wait, no, I think the black ones are the same, I actually can't remember if I bought one because I felt the Monique one was too big... I think I have two, but my short term memory is iffy, LOL Yah, I think they are different (one Monique, one ebay??) The one on the right, the blond is mohair on stretchy wig cap, the one on the left turned out to be synthetic mohair. They were the same style, but look different. I really like the way the hairs look together though, as my Aaliyah is supposed to be AA and thus her hair should be thicker and coarser at least a little :) Still, they both look like they belong in big-hair Texas (joking, I'm just picking on my hubbies home, LOL)

    3. Hmmm do you think this one w
Thanks for answering me =D. Your dolls are lovely <3.
Hmm.. do you think this one would fit then? http://formydoll.com/shop/step1.php?number=2426&b_code=B20090308035539&c_code=C20090308035759 it's a 5.6-5.7. It's the one I was originally looking at but I wasn't sure if it'd be too small. But if one of those is a 5-5 then would this fit ok?

    4. @IngieBee - I shall never grow up! I will be a [redacted] Pollyanna until the day I ascend saint-like into the heavens. Also, your girls are are wonderful! I love the personality that shines through.

@Mahgiep - That's a new one for me. I've never been called a romantic before, but I do like being gentlemanly and chivalrous. That's definitely something to considered XD

@KatKitoshi - Welcome back and welcome to the FID life! I can answer a few of your question, but I'm afraid I can't answer anything about the clothing. The What Fits Iplehouse Fashion Men and Women thread might be able to help you out on that front. I watched it ages ago when I first got Sebastian. That wig from For My Doll will absolutely fit. I don't have an FID girl at home, but that size fits my FID boy fairly well.

Below is a picture of Sebastian when he first came home, wearing the eyes he came with and an old Leeke wig that I believe is 5-6. As you can see, the 6mm eyes fit him very well and leave no gaps, and Iplehouse gave him eyes that don't have irises that are a good size for his aesthetic. However, I preferred Sebastian to have brighter eyes, so I bought him some new ones.

These eyes were purchased from Safrin Doll and as they only go down to 8mm, that's what I bought. They're the small iris version, but I like how they fit. They look to have the same iris dimensions as the Iplehouse eyes he came with. He's also in a wig I know to be 5-6. Also, the difference face-up and blushing can make, am I right? Anyways, All That Glitters Eyes on Etsy offers smaller eye sizes and has an option for small irises.

    5. Oh my those eyes!

These help so much!! Thank you! =D I'm getting more and more excited <3. I'm planning on getting her this week as a birthday gift for myself XD (it's next week =D). Though I know she won't arrive til much later lol.

    6. Oh wow, that's a really pretty wig, @KatKitoshi I just pulled out my two girls, and they'er pretty much 5.9", like Iplehouse's website says (well, converted from cm) size 5/6 is a squeeze on the boys, sometimes a 6-7 can work for the boys, but gosh, I don't know what to say! The wig is really pretty with the color fade! I personally would buy it and just put it on another doll (or use it as an excuse for another doll, LOL) Ugh?? The question is, does it have more give than stated??

    7. I hope they do ^^. I keep going back and forth between that one and the 6-7 one and I am TORN XD. And getting another doll is not in the cards right now lol. Mari is the sole focus.... for now XD

    8. @KatKitoshi - Thank you! And happy early birthday! Dolls are a wonderful present. ;) What color are you thinking of getting her in? Which outfit were you looking at?

@IngieBee - The wigs I've got from For My Doll don't have a lot of give. There's just enough elasticity to get the wig on and off. My DIM tiny (Leisha, I'm old school) is just over 6", and I've got her on a wig that's the same size. It's a bit of a struggle to get her wig on and off and positioned correctly, and it likes to slide off. However, a silicon cap would solve that issue. On a FID girl, you'd have an easier time, I think. My DIM has consistently given me trouble in regards to wigs, though.

For myself, I would get the smaller size. However, if you're looking for length, get the larger size. The wigs scale in terms of style, for the most part, so larger sizes will have longer hair to suit the larger doll. The larger size may require you to have velcro or a silicon cap, but those are relatively easy to get or make/fake.

    9. LOL, sorry I didn't realize you were of the opposite gender than I, LOL (I do that a lot, sorry!) I pick on the poor boys, but when we were young, boys were pretty darn hilarious from my point of view ;P And I've heard say (NO!) that girls were maddening, so... yah! LOL.

Yah, that's pretty hard. I just got a 6-7 monique in for another doll, I'll put it on one of my girls for you to judge, OK? Be back in a bit :D

    10. OK, here we go, I had just taken the girls out to try on the new wigs, took a craptastic wall shot, then realized I had the 6/7 for my KID, and could do this for you, @KatKitoshi The 6/7 wig will be very loose, and require something like at least a wig cap, preferably a thick one?? But it's not too bad. What you don't see in the picture is that the head is deeper into the wig which might show up on sideways pictures, but I didn't think to do that.

Here is the wig showing how much of a gap there is, which I used a flash indoors, pretty bad picture, LOL

      [IMG]IMG_20180604_173100488 by ingiebee, on Flickr

Here ist is being worn Note the shadow on her forehead... Otherwise it looks nice?

and here is the size 5/6 on, same exact wig style and color

This is Monique's April in carrot red and it gets really long in the back, more waist level in the front.

    11. @IngieBee Hmm I see. Well if anything I think I might get the smaller one and test the 6-7 theory with one of the old wigs I had that I found just now XD. I'll also keep looking for more 5-6 wigs.

This was really helpful you guys thank you!

    12. Yes, everyone has different tolerances in their dolls. Sometimes imperfection is worth it. I think wig fit is one of my things, I have a lot of too large wigs, LOL. But I often also love aesthetics over function when it comes to posability. Cool thing is, some of my doll bodies look better, some pose better and since I have an issue, I think, of imagining characters, if I want to do a particular pose, I'll just grab the doll that can do it best, LOL. I really have to work on this. I desperately want to make characters, not just pretty dollies

    13. @KatKitoshi Welcome back to the land of the dolls. . and good choice with Mari. She's a gorgeous sculpt from what I've seen of her!
As for wigs, I second what folks have said about the 5-6 fitting a lot better than the 6-7's. I don't know how crafty you are, but you could also use one of the many tutorials out there to fashion a wig yourself if you are.
Size 5-6 this where I usually go to look for my wigs I buy (I've taken to making a lot of mine lately though) She has minimal light purple wigs, but there are a few if you just go through clicking on the links. Snow is pretty, though it's a silvery white with streaks of colour rather. (note, I'm in the states, so I can't really help with other country sources)

For eyes, there are a few sources. I believe one of the good ones has been mentioned already. Safrin no longer makes their own eyes at this point I think, so that's no longer a good source. I got Simon's eyes from what is now by MarvellousResinEyes this shop on Etsy. The 8mm has a nicely small iris, though it may be too small for those who like a more sweet look. I'm gonna be replacing Echo's eye with one of those and my new doll Madchen (who I'll be getting likely in July will have some of those eyes as well. Another source which I haven't bought from is this Doll eyes :: Natural - Live Eyes - toy eyes, doll eyes, taxidermy eyes, animal eyes, bird eyes, fish eyes, reptile eyes
Overall 8mm eyes work well in the socket, but you need to keep in mind height of dome and size of iris. Standard 8mm eyes have larger irises which can sort of engulf the opening of such small eyes. 6mm ovals (what you'll get from Iple with your doll) have a similar width to 8mm rounds, but a smaller iris than the standard 8mm.

As far as clothing goes, Etsy is a good source. Sartoriaj has quite a few nice fashions for the FID's both men and women. Handmade clothes and accessories for ball jointed dolls by SartoriaJ There are other stores with good fashions as well.

They also have shoes, heels primarily for the women. If you're looking for flat shoes and boots, try an Ebay search for Tonner Matt shoes. Those tend to be a good fit.

Edit: What body are you getting your Mari on? The original body is a little thicker in the thighs so this doesn't really go for them, but the newer one can fit JID clothes quite well aside from the shortness.

    14. O-O oh wow these are great resources, thank you so so much! The clothes and the eyes in particular are great!

    15. I'm glad to be of help! I can't wait to see what your Mari ends up like. One of the things I love about these dolls (I'm sure I've said this before numerous times) is that they can be so entirely different from one another depending on styling.

    16. Oh yeah definitely! That's what I love about them too! Just like people they can be anyone and anything. I can't wait to see what my Mari will end up being either =D. I have a few plans for her, but sometimes I feel these dolls take a personality all their own XD

    17. @IngieBee - No need to apologize, especially since that was meant more as a joke rather than anything factual. My relationship to gender it, shall we say, fluid? However, I am an opposite to you in one respect - I make character dolls. I can't not do it. I tried. I did try.

@KatKitoshi - That outfit looks so fun! I hear you on the Special Real Skin. I fell in love, and ended up buying two other dolls of a similar color (a Granado in Tan and a Dollshe in Copper Oriental). I need all the tan dolls.

@TatterPunk - Those are some resources I don't have yet, so thank you!

I never bought from Glazki, but I tried once. None of my payments worked, at all, so I had to give up. And it wasn't that they took my money or anything, just that nothing went through. Others with different banks might have a better chance, though.

    18. I've only recently realized it might be the source of my inability to act, LOL. So seeing this strange issue, I realized it's from my autism, which I only learned I had after having my son in my mid 30's. But learning all these weird things I can't do kind of makes it a challenge that I must conquer, LOL So I'm playing D&D with my hubby and kids, and trying to give my Gnome a character I can act out :). Not there yet, but I won't give up :D

    20. @bewaretheshort1 Thanks! I was like you, wanting Bichun but not wanting the big one. When he came out in FID, it was the best choice I ever made. DOOO EEET! ;D

    21. The EID Bichun was one of the first dolls I saw that I really wanted but being at the beginning of the hobby, he seemed huge and expensive. So happy they made a FID version! :love

    22. does anybody have Grace in normal skin with one of the SID face ups of her?

    23. I just need to chime in here. I've been in hiatus from ABJD collecting but really wanting to get a FID. Since I am just coming back to Iplehouse (owned EID and SID before and sold my collection), I am torn which one to order first. I really like Mari (was planning to get SID of her some years back) but saw Isis and fell in love. I also like Bichun but I can't possibly buy all three! I noticed FID is not a regular offering at Iple as it is not under the Basic category. How often do they offer them? I would like to know my wait time if I start buying one this round. Thank you and hope to get opinions between Mari and Isis, too. If you were me who would you buy?

    24. @IngieBee - Take your time with it. 'Cause honestly, as much as I love my characters, there are things I'd love to get for my dolls that the characters would never wear or have. For instance, Sebastian was supposed to have 1/4 guns and weapons, but no. No, he had to be a demon because of those darn horns! LOL

@Katushka_Nitok - Your girls are so pretty. I love that blue dress, and the brown outfit is very well done. I have to ask where you got them?

@Bishounen_Hideto - Bichun is meant for a beloved character of mine, but another from that cast is already home in SD form. Which is why I'm resisting his FID self... But I'm so weak to temptation. He's so handsome and perfect. Gah!

@zankitsu - Welcome back from hiatus! I adore this line, because it lets me have these lovely dolls at half the size and half the price! From what I've seen, Iplehouse might release the FID quarterly? But I'm not very up on the releases (too tempting!). I mean, I just realized the FID line was being offered right now! I do know that Iplehouse has historically had the FID available around September/October, because two years ago I put my Arvid on layaway in September and last year Iplehouse made some of their Addiction line into FID for Halloween.

Insofar as wait times, I did a 2 month layaway, which ended 18 November (I paid him off a bit early, as I put him on layaway on 28 September). He shipped the first time* on 30 November, so I didn't have to wait long at all. If we assume that Iplehouse waited until after I finished my layaway to start making him, I waited less than a month. If not, the wait was roughly two months.

There was an issue with my address the first time he shipped. I had recently moved prior to placing the order and had apparently not inputted my address correctly on the site, and he was sent back. Hence, why Sebastian came home Christmas Eve rather than a few weeks before.

I personally like Isis over Mari, and while both have soft features and very sweet faces, I tend to prefer stronger features in my dolls, and almost exclusively collect male dolls. So take my opinions with that grain.

      • x 1
    25. @bewaretheshort1 They have the FID's available every other month. So after June, August, October, and December will be the schedule for the rest of the year it seems. Though, of course they randomly had a "limited" Isabel (just the outfit was limited) in May, the previous offering was in April.

@zankitsu Welcome back from your hiatus! I came back about a year and a half ago or so myself. I think in the end (as you know) only you can decide which of the two you get, but I personally would choose Mari out of the two. I feel that there's something a little too soft for my taste in Isis. It might be her nose, not sure. Of course that's my opinion, sooo yeah. Perhaps look at the big version owner pictures on Flicker and stare at both of them blank for a loooong time? That's usually how I decide.

    26. @Katushka_Nitok They're so pretty <3 and I peeked at your store, those outfits are beautiful!

    27. Always exceedingly gorgeous, @Katushka_Nitok ! I love your work!

@bewaretheshort1 I'm working on my gnome character with my husband, trying to get a "voice" for her, LOL.
BTW, I'm totally failing, at least I can tell, it's not that I think I'm doing it... so I think that helps :)

@zankitsu , Iplehouse said they'd offer up the FIDs every other month, so there are plenty of opportunities to purchase throughout the year. If you do layaway, they will start making the doll right away normally, and usually when you finish paying it off, they ship right away, which is super awesome! I think this is the best size EVER.

    28. @TatterPunk - Oh, seriously? That's awesome to know! Thank you!

@IngieBee - I've heard of some people using one of those 8-balls to help them get started with the role-play aspect of D&D. So when faced with a decision, they'd give it a good shake and apply the answer to their character's response. My mom used to play characters that were very close to herself, in terms of personality - there's a good chance she's on the spectrum, and I've been helping her with information.

There's a downside to coming back to this thread. I want more FIDs! Sebastian is lonely!

    29. A downside? What downside, any FID is a good choice! Just buy buy buy until we're all in the poorhouse (but we won't be alone, our lovelies will be with us :D

I really love the props some of you guys have in your photographs, I need to start making some! Problem is I'm also supposed to get sewing, when is that going to happen? LOL And here I type.... :P

    30. Thank you @IngieBee; @TatterPunk; @bewaretheshort1 ! I appreciate the opinions! It is good to know that they release FID every other month so that means I have plenty of time to buy the three that I am eyeing right now. It's just a matter of deciding who gets to go home first. I do think any choice would be win-win for me as they are all gorgeous!

    31. I spent the day (I wasn't feeling well so I called out) working on a helmet to 3D print for Madchen. Hopefully I won't have to make too many adjustments to get it to fit proper. Next I think will be a shield.
This weekend I have to order some things so I can get sewing. I keep saying I'm gonna sew but I still haven't made a thing lately >__> fail.

    32. I officially ordered Mari today!! Now the waiting begins lol. I'm so excited!! I also ordered some eyes for her and joined a GO for her wig. I may get a couple more from other places but for now I've got everything she needs <3.

      • x 3
    33. Congratulations, @KatKitoshi , we need more Maris around!

    34. @zankitsu - I'm happy to help! I love that Iplehouse makes it easy to buy their dolls. Too easy, some might say (my wallet).

@TatterPunk - Ooh, what style of helmet and shield are you making? I'm so weak for any armor. I was starting to get into making leather armor for my crew, but when we moved, all my leather working stuff ended up in storage.

@KatKitoshi - Congrats on your Mari! Are you getting that lovely lavender wig from For My Doll for her? Which eyes and what color did you get? Did you get her in the Special Real, or did you opt for another color? I wanna know all about her!

And everyone's dolls. I'm nosy like that.

    35. I'm making ancient Norse (Viking) style stuff for her to begin with. Madchen (her real name is Sigrun) was born waaay back then. She's been alive ever since thanks to a vampire who took a shine to her and bound their life forces together. So I've really got huge amount of history to pull from for her wardrobe. It's fun, cause all my other dolls are pretty much modern (though Bridget died back in the 1800's, and Julian's a fae prince). . . I love costume history. I love learning about it and then turning it all topsy-turvy for fantasy stuff. Viking era is one of my favorite periods overall though, so I'm glad to have a doll who will be from there (they sort of decide these things for themselves).

      • x 1
    36. @bewaretheshort1 Yup! It's so pretty, I really hope it fits well~ As for her eyes I bought a bunch from Glazki. One with an interesting flower iris, a realistic purple one that'll probably be her normal pair, a smaller iris one for comparison and a sharingan for funsies XD. I saw it and thought... why not?? I like Naruto, it could be fun to also make her some OC when I wanna change it up lol. And yes I went for Special Real! I was debating Light Brown for a little bit because it's beautiful too, but I may get another doll in that shade later..... maybe...... someday...... we'll see lol. My wallet can't take another beating right now XD.

    37. Oooh~ viking vampires huh? That sounds fascinating =D, I'm a sucker for history, vampires, fairies and old costumes so I'm intrigued by all of this. My girl's basic story is will be pretty modern, but she'll be flexible enough that I can fit her in different things when the inspiration strikes. Well, if she cooperates lol.

((oops sorry for the double post!! I was trying to delete it but I can't seem to find how to do that o-O))

    38. Tod - Madchen's vampire - is gonna be a difficult one to shell, so it's good that she can work well independently for now. At least until someone comes out with a proper sized fellow who looks as I imagine him (that is to say an almost skeletal Mads Mikkelsen). He's supposed to be more frightening looking than handsome. Sadly all the Iple sculpts are devastatingly handsome.

    39. Lol that they are <3 and quite shapely too. Both the men and the women~

    40. @TatterPunk - That sounds awesome. I love a lot of historical clothing, but can't sew for the life of me. I actually tried, once, and gave up because I sewed the same piece backwards 5 times in a row. Do I remember correctly that you were considering a scar for her?

@KatKitoshi - Special Real is such a beautiful color. I've been curious about Glazki eyes for a while. If they look half as good in person as they do on the website, I may have to redouble my previous efforts in getting my hands on some.

    41. Gods and goddesses...

    44. @Mahgiep - Your dolls are? From IRL mythology or your own creation?

@Uminari - Ooh, thank you! They are lovely! They do manage to look quite close to the website, from what I can see. Is that true? Was there any loss of detail?

    45. Due to downsizing them a lot they lose some detail but they are still very detailed. I have no macro lens otherwise I would have made a more detailed shot of her eyes. Colourwise I got what I ordered. These a printed

    46. @bewaretheshort1 Oops just saying they have perfect bodies like gods and goddesses. My couple are South Korean models/actors/singers in modern times. Sometimes they act in kdramas from the Goryeon and Joseon periods of Korea. No magic/fantasy here.

    47. Those eyes are indeed beautiful @Uminari !

I'm sorry, but that really made me laugh! As if I need more to fuzzy up my grip on reality, LOL

    48. @Uminari - Thank you so much for the information! I'm definitely going to be doing some more digging on my own to assuage my own self, but I may have to give Glazki another shot for ordering.

@Mahgiep - Hah! Sorry I misunderstood. Even so, that's awesome. I love dolls like that so much.

@IngieBee - Glad I could make you laugh! I meant to ask if they were OCs or not. Go me!

    49. Does anyone know where I can find a nice black/grey suit for my FID muscle man? I had my eye on the one from SartoriaJ but it's for Dollshe. :(

    50. I've noticed that too, and I thought about asking if they could make it for FID but I wasn't prepared to purchase so I didn't want to ask:|. I would certainly ask if I knew I would buy right away. If you should ask, please let us know what they say, OK? Thanks @Supernova :whee:

    51. Well I did ask them if the dollshe one would fit and after they said no, I told them I'd really like to see a FID suit by them so hopefully they will take note and we may see one in the future. :eusa_pray

    52. Thank you for asking :whee: i hope they do too! :eusa_pray

    53. Great posing = let's say, she just lost her head over him .

Thanks for info. You are right, Lee Joon Ki was really slim in the SHR, I will just decide which body I like more.
Yes, your will definitely be the first one to have amazing Wang So :XD:. Luckily I can droll checking out your pictures of him untill I get mine. Well, we will see if I will not try to create different character in the end - my favourite one from the books is Chu Beijie from General and I (not the movie series, even though the MC is also pretty decent). I have soft spot for the heroes :XD:.

    54. I'd love to see a wider variety of clothing for this line, especially suits. Unfortunately, Sebastian's character is one who is perfectly content wearing casual attire, but I can still get away with throwing him in the outfits I bought for him. I mean, technically, one was bought for his Dollshe fashion boyfriend, but since it was an Iplehouse outfit, it doesn't fit at all, so it's his.

And because it's going to get to the upper 80's (Fahrenheit) where I'm at, have some more Sebastian in the snow pictures! Because I'm dying!

ahhh it makes me excited to start taking pictures again, but I've got a long wait ahead of me lol

I'm not happy with her eyes, both her defaults and the glib glass in her now just don't seem right. I've bought some Glazki eyes to experiment. I have a feeling she may be better suited to 8mm.
