JL_The_Lion Thank you for your wonderful words! I’m glad you like him!!! Ashemanu Thank you so much for the kind words!
@Gamma Ray - Your Eva is darling in her new outfit! I still love my Iplehouse EIDs and SIDs so much. Here's one of my Evas... Eryn. Eryn by luluna33, on Flickr
Thank you, luluna And, gosh, your Eryn is absolutely stunning! She looks so sophisticated and mature. Fantastic photo
Here are my EIDs (Douglas and Pamela... aka Henry and Lydia)... not new pics. I haven't had them out of their boxes for a long time. But I still love this photo. A Chance Encounter: Lydia and Henry by Nevermore Trinkets, on Flickr
@Gamma Ray your Eva’s outfit is SO cute!! @luluna love your gorgeous Eryn!! I have a couple of shots of my Eva to share too. She’s on the nSID body. She is my Caroline Penvenen from the Poldark series: Spoiler: Caroline in lingerie
Thank you very much, Robyn, and my goodness your Caroline is breathtaking Her dress and her lingerie are beautiful, and that wig is fantastic. What a hairdo. You make your Eva really special
Thanks SO much @Gamma Ray !!! Caroline’s dress is silk tafetta and her lingerie is Swiss batiste with French cotton laces. Her wig is an artisan made angora on a stretch wig cap. One of these days I need to make Caroline (and Demelza) a Regency gown for the later books! Less excited to work up Ross and Dwight’s Regency clothing tho so that’s why I’ve not started that project!
Greetings Eva owners... @Gamma Ray Your Eva is a cutie indeed, I love her overalls! @luluna I can't tell you enough how stunningly gorgeous your Eva is! @Robyn_in_WA You're so talented! your Caroline looks so beautiful in that dress and the lingerie, I really love the dress. Do you make the pattern yourself? I'm not good at sewing at all but I'd love to be able to make something like that for my Eva. And the underskirt looks amazing with all the laces and pintucks, well done! Here's a pic of my Eva, her name is Edith...
@dollfan - Thank you! I plead guilty to having more than one Eva...she is just so lovely and versatile. Your Eva, Edith, is just totally awesome! She has a wonderful faceup...did you do it? I also love the way she is posed as she looks so real and natural! @Robyn_in_WA - Your girl is stunning as is her dress. I love it in that pretty blue. Just beautiful! @The Raven - Love your Pamela...you don't see her very often yet she is a wonderful sculpt! And Douglas is even more rare, I believe! It's nice to see them together. While I'm here... Extending the Eva love...one of my other Evas is this girl I call Ryleigh. She has a faceup by Lyn Raftis. Ryleigh by luluna33, on Flickr
Your Eva is so cute! And thank you! Yeah, I got Douglas right before they discontinued him I believe. He was the first sculpt I fell in love with after discovering Iplehouse. Then when they released Pamela I had to have her too. She has a custom faceup which is a combo of the two they released her with, plus eyebrows to match her wigs.
Thank you, @dollfan about my Eva I just think the overalls are so cute, and I'm so glad I picked them up for her. And dollfan and @luluna those are a couple of lovely Evas! dollfan, your Edith is absolutely divine. She looks so mature and sophisticated. I love her outfit, too. luluna, your Ryleigh is a total sweetheart I totally adore her blushing cheeks This recent Eva love fest is so wonderful I may only have one Eva, but here's another photo of mine. She has Iplehouse's B type faceup from back around 2014. I took this photo in the summer of 2016 after I got Iplehouse's swimsuits they released back then, and I thought it brought out her soft, sweet side, showing her face in the setting sun. If you want to see the full photoshoot, check out this link. The first part of the shoot was taken earlier in the day when she was wearing a different swimsuit. Eva - Iplehouse Swimwear 2016
Thank you @dollfan !! Your Edith is lovely - Eva is such a wonderful sculpt! Yes, I made that pattern myself - it was based on a people pattern which I scaled/ modified. it took several toiles before I got the snug fit properly adjusted. I have also scaled the pattern for a couple of other bodies since. Caroline has two petticoats for this outfit - the inner one is a simpler version of the other. And she has a separate, also fancy, chemise that goes on first. Love these fashions but would sure not like to wear all those layers myself! Thank you @luluna !!! That tafetta was named “sea salt” - not that I think that blue looks much like salt to me. But the tafetta is SO yummy for these dolls! Your Rayleigh is *stunning*!!! Lyn did such incredible work…. Just for fun - her is my Eva (who became Caroline after repainting) with her original Iplehouse face paint. This is an Edwardian lingerie set that I’d made more recently - also fine Swiss batiste and French cotton laces. There are two petticoats here as well - and the corset cover separate.
I love Lyn Raftis' work. @luluna, your Eva is gorgeous, as are @dollfan's, @Gamma Ray's and @Robyn_in_WA's.
Thank you Luluna, no I wish I could do face up myself, its Iplehouse face up, I asked them for Yur type b face up on her. I do love Eva sculpt, actually thinking about getting another from time to time haha Very beautiful work, amazing, I love historical clothing...and where do you find such tiny laces, they're exquisite! Do you sell patterns by any chance and if you do would you recommend them for beginner?
Thank you! I have a Douglas head and his Scar head version too. So, I share your enthusiasm. You rarely see him anymore or Pamela for that matter. I also have a Pamela or two. One has the Iple faceup and the other is artist painted. I love them both! I love seeing the old Iplehouse sculpts!
Beautiful Evas here Love your photo of Edith @dollfan @Robyn_in_WA Your outfits are so beautiful. I have recently met and become friends with a lady here who loves the heirloom sewing and the fine cottons and laces and must show her your work. She's not a doll person per se but she loves all kinds of crafts Love Ryleigh and Erin @luluna The overalls are super cute @Gamma Ray
Thank you @Gamma Ray ! Eva’s such a lovely sculpt - it’s hard to take a bad photo of her! Thank you @dollfan !! I bought many of my French cotton laces from our SewExpo - there was a great dealer who would come from France every year. The other place I used was MarthaPullen’s website - I bought a LOT from there - sadly she sold her shop and i’s gone now. No, I don’t sell any of the patterns that I’ve made. There are a couple of good pattern makers that I’ve used - they also have great instructions. Welcome to gracefaerie designs! Adams Harris Pattern Company https://www.dolloutfits.com/ For heirloom sewing (pintucks, lace insertions/edgings) my best suggestion would be to try to find a class. There are books available on heirloom sewing but it’s pretty intricate and may be best learned in person? And you’ll want to get some high quality fine cotton batiste too - using those techniques on quilting cotton won’t work well at all…. Hope that helps! THANK YOU @LyanneNZ !!!! If you wanted to share more images of my work with your friend, I did keep my Gallery from my (now closed) website - periodthreads.com - and it has more of my heirloom garments too! Thanks!!!
I was so sad when they discontinued him! I really wanted his scar head, but never found one in normal skin to match Henry. I saw a real skin one floating around the marketplace back then, but that was it He's very rare indeed! I'm so lucky to have him and Pamela. What skin tone are yours? I feel like I might have seen pics of them awhile back at some point probably So pretty! OMG, how did you scale the patterns? I have several human sized period clothing patterns that I need to scale down for my EIDs and I keep procrastinating I have no idea where to begin! It's a little overwhelming. Thanks in advance and feel free to pm me if you don't want to clog up the thread!
Yes I was surprised when Douglas got discontinued...he wasn't for sale very long! I was lucky to get both my Douglas and Scar/Douglas as floating heads...both are in NS. I happen to have two Pamela's also one in PG and one in NS. Here is my Scar Douglas aka Frankie. Frankie by luluna33, on Flickr
I, unfortunately, am not. I suspect (but don't know - just speculating) that Iplehouse may have gotten quite a lot of pushback from their customers. Some people enjoy realistic looking scars; others find them quite upsetting. If you're running a doll company that makes traditionally "pretty" sculpts, your customers may be a little shocked at a scarred face. If you read the comments below some of their sculpts, there were a lot of unhappy people about the nSID body being too "skinny." They are objectively wrong, of course.
OMG I love that name. lol. I have a female character named Frankie. She's not shelled in doll form though. I was trying to remember if yours was NS as well. I knew there were a couple of them floating around here on DoA but there seemed to be more RS ones back in the day (of the very few that exist that I was able to find online anyway). I love that face My Pamela is PG as well!
To each their own I actually like how the nSID body looks (nnSID? Isn't this the third?), but I like how the previous body is just a bit thicker. It's such an attractive characteristic.
Well, they had a non-scar version of Douglas that was offered for those too squeamish for a scar sculpt....but discontinued both versions anyway. Then just two years ago was it they added a Scar Leonard. @ResinRapture - Your Rex and Zera are wonderful! I love seeing the older sculpts. Thanks! I was heavily into story-telling at the time and I had this character off...camera where he was referred to but not seen... but he got so popular that I had to shell him. I originally named the character Frankie as to not use up names I wanted for other characters that I intended to shell. The same thing happened to the regular Douglas head I have whose nickname is Shorty...but he's the tallest character on the pirate ship he sails on. Here's Shorty. Shorty by luluna33, on Flickr
I’ll give you a quick description @The Raven - it’s a long process and quite labor intensive. There may be better ideas in the crafting/sewing/pattern section on DoA too? I lay out the people pattern on a 1” sewing grid - and with fine grid graph paper - set to have 1/2inch = 1inch - I plot the people pattern piece onto graph paper. Once it is half scale, I can use a xerox machine (or scan it into the computer) and reduce it to the 0.35 scale that I need to start. If I buy a digital pattern, first scaling is MUCH easier - I just print the A0 pdf at 0.35 scale on my printer. Once I have the ‘small’ version of the pattern, I start making a toile/muslin - often it needs 2-4 versions to get all the adjustments for the doll. I adjust the bust, shoulders, hips, waist then height as I’m scaling things. As the proportions of our dolls are frequently not the same as people, bust location and torso lengths are a required adjustment. There are various methods to scale patterns - some probably easier/faster than what I do. It is easier to scale a doll pattern to a different size than to create a doll pattern from people clothing - imo. @ResinRapture your Rex and Zera are a gorgeous couple!!! Great photo! @luluna your Shorty is really sexy! Great photo too!
@luluna - fair enough. I see that there's still a Scar Leonard, so that blows that theory out of the water, eh? Honestly, I'm still a little surprised they have the "SWAT" outfits on their website... at least, from a U.S. perspective. We, uh, have a complicated history with SWAT teams over here. (Have a Google re "SWATing" if you don't know what I'm talking about.) Out of curiosity, has anyone ordered HID Leonard via Doll Choice and paid for the face-up? What face-up did you get?
Thank you! I figured it would be somewhat difficult/time intensive to shrink the pattern down. But I'm up for the challenge
I happen to have an old Iplehouse sculpt that I was lucky enough to find all the parts for. This is Twyla, my 2010 Noctarcana Circus Luna Tamer in SE Rose Gray skin. She's my only Iplehouse. Old pics are old. 20210217_163306 by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr Even though she's in my Torchwood storyline, she is a fan of Audrey Hepburn. I had her faceup artist paint her like a redheaded Audrey. Hmmm, I think I'll change her outfit since the holidays are coming. Spoiler: Twyla on the stairs 100_6238_zps2725e5c5 by Ryuichi Sakuma, on Flickr Oh man, I need to get this poor girl's feline head faceupped! Welp, I now know what my 2024 New Year's Resolution will be. To get this poor girl faceupped and possibly finally have her tiger striped bodysuit made...if I can find someone to make her one, that is. Ryu
@Ryuichi Sakuma 13 - Oh you have a wonderful 2010 Noctarcana Circus Luna Tamer! She is so pretty. I love her cat side! I once saw one that was painted like a Snow Leopard, and it was so amazing! A tiger sounds great also. I hope you are able to get her cat side faceuppped soon. The Noctarcana Circus theme was really creative and groundbreaking for Iplehouse! I love that Iple keeps up all the old themes on their site. I often go back to look at the offerings gone by.
Thank you! I remember seeing that snow leopard Luna back in the day! I've been debating for years, tbh as to if I wanted her body blushed or a tiger-striped bodysuit made, after all, when she's undercover for Torchwood (a Doctor Who spinoff), she's a regular human. Tiger stripes would be a total giveaway that she's more than human, especially in the types of outfits she likes to wear. I have to admit that I love the themed dolls IP had. I'm honestly not sure if they still do them, since its been a long time since I checked out their website. Ryu
@Robyn_in_WA Thank you for the links, im actually looking for a pattern specifically for nsid body, as i have no idea how to modify the pattern, maybe someday haha.
And I'm back! Just ordered a Raffine on the HID body through Doll Choice. She'll be the big version of Echo my old FID girl now that I've moved on to the big dolls mostly. Anyone know what size eyes she takes? I wanna make sure I can get her eyeballs ordered when I put in my next Ashuradark order.
12 mm generally - 14 mm if you like the very big iris/very little whites look (me. that's what I like). Preferably oval-shaped.
I'm a small iris liker, myself, but I usually just get custom sizes. So the eyewells work with both 12 and 14? Anyone know what size iris looks most realistic? I feel like it'd be 4 or 5 mm. . . I think I have 4mm irises in my Bianca.
I do 4-5 mm irises in all my Iplehouse girls. I honestly can’t keep track of who has 4’s and who has 5’s, but I know both look good.
Thanks! I looked and I have the right color in 14/4 so hopefully those will work well. Some of the eyewells on some of the heads are smaller is all, so I just need to make sure Raffine can comfortably hold 14 mm eyes.
