Iplehouse Discussion ( YID, nYID, SID, EID ) Part 9

Dec 31, 2017

    1. They are beautiful :chibi I believe the Nordics are supposed to have blonde hair and blue eyes but can also be a bit darker in skin color. So I guess Danya and Annika could be a relative of the Nordic race. I haven't read too much about The Nordics yet so I have no idea if they also can have other hair colors.

    2. Sorry to dip in, but does anyone know if there is a compendium of Iplehouse head plates? I purchased a secondhand Rexy, and while she did come with a COA, I want to double check her head plate.

      • x 1
    3. I am not aware of any.
The head plates have changed, maybe a few times. I am aware of 3; round ones very early Iplehouse dolls, then colored ones and now metal/silver looking ones.
The ones that varied in color, might have been issued by color to specific sizes. I seem to recall colors of blue, green, red and orange.
My HID Lahela has a red looking plate and SID Zera an orange plate. I thought JID were blue.
My newest Doria and 3 FID have the metal/silver plate.

    4. Thank you! I had only seen the old style sticker type, so I was surprised to see the newer silver type.

    5. @whitebread Your question got me to thinking that it might not be a bad idea to put together a photo gallery of sorts wth the different Iplehouse head plate stickers over time. It might be a handy resource

      @manabusama awww thatโ€™s a sweet photo.

@Jany Yay congratulations on Rachel! She looks awesome

@gaurweth Your Bichun looks great and I love his Iple traditional outfit. No itโ€™s not bad to want more than one... I would really like to get Carina in several resin colors too. With different faceups they can look very individual.

@IngieBee Baron in indeed handsome. Hypothetically speaking (I have no hope of buying him right now either) I think Iโ€™d prefer him on an EID body.

@Poptart great photo of Grace and Rex! I really like her flower crown

In regards to Baron, I can see the Rex influence now that itโ€™s been pointed out ( funnily, I have Rex and totally missed the resemblance, lol) Does anyone else think he looks a bit like Lawrence and Eden too? He seems to have a nice mix of some great sculpts going for him.

    6. The super old pre-YID 60cm dolls have green sticker-like headplates - God knows I have several of those boys kicking around over here - and I think the early EIDs had similar headplates in red enamel.

Also, I have to admit that I saw 'Baron' and wondered if he wasn't an update of the old Iplehouse sculpt 'Barron'. He doesn't really look like that, though.

    7. Thank you @PennyDes ! I've gone a little flower crown crazy lately -- I'm actually working on some autumn/Halloween-esque ones right now. I had Sofia modeling one the other day.

    8. head plates have colors they coordinate with size and the OLD 'striped' boxes'... and the SE's I think had a different plate of some kind but i forget what it was... even the new ones are colored.. it's hard to see but the writing is colored.

    9. Gosh, I was gone the whole time when reproductions were a new problem, and I'm still getting used to being aware. I don't even know if my old dolls had CoAs anymore (2012 and earlier) Iple might have had them though...? They would have been kept in their boxes, which I'd have to dig up. This year, I've been getting second hand dolls without their boxes.... on purpose because it's hard for me to throw them away, and I HATE storing them! So I have a double dilemma for some of the older Fairyland dolls, pay extra and store the dang box to maybe "prove" the doll was authentic, or leave it behind for someone else to abuse (I HIGHLY doubt the people I bought from would EVER try to pass something off as authentic, they're great members here for a long time) But it gives a new dimension to the issue, I'd rather not worry about :( And I have grown to HATE boxes as they take up WAY more storage space (I stick em in the attic where all I can think of is that they're extra tinder for a fire!) It's gotten so bad with the reproductions, and it's so sad :(

@Poptart those are adorable, seriously adorable!!

    10. I keep my doll boxes in case if I have to sell them I would rather have it and send it along to the new owner with COA if the doll came with it. So far all my dolls have a COA and their original box, yea it takes up space, but with the whole "R" thing going on better safe than sorry later. I know my JID Ryan has the old blue striped box and his COA is the older version of what is new now. Same with my SID Zera, she has the orange striped box and older COA with my name on it. Her head plate is orange in color with the Iplehouse name on it.

    11. Well, one thing I'm glad about with Impldolls, which are OT, is that their boxes are sturdy but cheap and simple and they have CoAs so I just dump the boxes, LOL I haven't dumped a fancy box yet, but I have requested a couple of bodies second hand without their original boxes (some didn't have them). Anyway, then I bought some wigs on ebay, and later noticed that the seller was also selling reproductions! So I felt dirty buying anything from them :(

    12. Really old Iplehouse dolls didn't even HAVE boxes! They actually came packed in these really nice leatherette carrying bags instead. At least they had CoAs...

    13. LOL, I think we have a winner! I didn't even know Iplehouse existed until about 2008, LOL I wish I had one of those original bags!

    14. I got one of the OLD YID's (Iris) from a legit owner... she didn't have a box so when i had to store her she got the box of one of my 'nYID's. I did not take the doll carrier but yeah those have CoA's.. I believe (don't hold me to this_ that all Iple dolls always came with CoA's? As for boxes... yeah I even have the shipping boxes LOL yes im that bad, but those i fold flat and they store better that way. Right now I can't locate one of the 'doll' boxes for my EID boys and it's making me nuts. I think I will confirm about CoA's later with Iple.

EDIT: just asked on the Q/A

    15. My Lion came with a proper CoA in March of 2006, back when Iplehouse only had four sculpts to their name. (They started with Be Yearn and Soo Ri in... 2005, I think, then added Lion and Louis in 2006.) Even if they didn't come with CoAs right from the start, they definitely started doing them pretty soon thereafter.

    16. you can still get the bags... they sell them now still

    17. I wanted the one that was black with red pockets but they sold out :( and never offered them again :doh

    18. I purchased a doll on the secondary market that came in an Iplehouse bag, but it is not leather. It was one of the older EIDs in the pretty ebony.
Were the leather bags the freebies and the canvas something they sold later? Mine is canvas, like the ones they still sell on their site.

Mine is like this one - ITEM VIEW : Bag - EID_Carrier Bag Black Pocket (Bag04)

    19. Yes, they had that one with red pockets, it was pretty :D I think I remember a matching JID carrier. :D I'd rather have that than a pretty box :D

    20. Oh man, this orginal sculpts! I remember when they first came out with them and they were the height of realism. Especially when they came out with the darker skin resin.

    21. They were similar to the one @LaurieESW linked to, but without the outer pockets - the oldest ones were a white leatherette with a pebbly texture, and then they switched to a similar black leatherette a year or two later, and then they made the shift to boxes. I still have a few!

They were the first male dolls I ever saw that had MUSCLES. Most of the other male dolls at the time looked soft or slim, and then there were these gigantically tall Iplehouse boys with PECS FOR DAYS.

    22. I just got done visiting a friend who has an tall boy but he is slim and we talked about how stacked the iple boys are haha. Bichun has some chest muscles going on haha. Like you said, PECS FOR DAYS.

    23. Ooooo Thatโ€™s very pretty :). Autumn and Halloween themed ones sound great....I look forward to seeing more of them.

    24. I wonder when they stopped coming in bags? I got my Noctarcana Circus Tedros in 2010--definitely no bag by then.

    25. I think - I think - they made the switch to boxes at about the same time that the EIDs were introduced. The company made a big changeover in 2009 - they discontinued all of their old YID sculpts after one last hurrah, introduced the EIDs, and so on - and I'm pretty sure that's when the change from bags to boxes happened. The EIDs never came with bags - I bought an Akando pretty much immediately after they were introduced and he came in a box with the foam and the cut-out sections. The EIDs were SO BIG that they really needed the extra protection!

    26. I wish Iโ€™d known Iplehouse existed way back then! So by all means, reminisce for us โ€œyoungerโ€ BJD folk. :D

And agreed on the PECS FOR DAYS. My pre-Iplehouse dolls all look like short, pretty, starved waifs now. Someone get them a sandwich!

Lol. Iโ€™m a fan of ye olden days too.

    28. I wondered if Akandos had bags... I was fascinated by Iplehouse's muscle men right away, but they were SO big and heavy! I tried to avoid... until I couldn't resist any more! I do remember having to buy a carrier from Iplehouse because all my carriers were too small...

    29. I have an original Akando from the first time he was sold and he did not come in a bag. He came in an Iplehouse box.

    30. Thanks :)

      That look so cool :3nodding:

    31. Anybody who know what SID sculpt this is? He's so pretty :DGeordie He got the kind of facial features that I'm so obbsessed with :blush I don't think there were any tags telling what sculpt it is. I'm so bad at remembering or recognizing face sculpts especially when there are so many, so I had to ask :sweat

I was a bit disappointed when the Lawrence sculpt were only offered for the EID body, because I do prefer my androgyneous male sculpts to be no larger than a SID, But this guy who ever he is also looks pretty cool!

      • x 1

    32. Oooh...he's mine! :XD:
I'll add info to the photo.

He is a SID Edan in RS.

    33. :o:D I will never stop being amazed at how versatile Edan's sculpt is.He wonderful! (add 'army of Edan's to go with Leo's and Arvid's lol)

    34. I was searching for androgyneous male BJD sculpts, then he showed up :blush Hehe I'll recognize the sculpts when I see pictures from Iplehouse. But as soon at the doll got another face-up or wig on I get unsure what sculpt it may be :sweat

Not saying that Edan looks exactly like Lawrence, but I think that he's a good alternative to what I have in mind.

      Valentine4

I'm still thinking about having a surfer type BJD named Sebastian. Allthough I do have my Rania Hybrid. I feel like I haven't accomplished to create that BJD character that I've been wanting to create for a while now, until I have a BJD guy named Sebastian. There's a background behind that name that's important to me.

What body type does your Edan have? If I one day decide to get him, I'm thinking of getting Edan on the muscle body since I have flip flops at home that I'd really like to use. But I'm wondering if I should get him in peach gold. I don't want him to be too tanned. More like a sun kissed peachy tone.

      Edan III

I also love the way he looks all face-upless on this picture. He got some really amazing facial features :)

    35. Ooh, I like that choice, @manabusama ! But I gotta tell ya, surfers are extremely tan, their hair bleached out. FYI in case you actually want Sebastian to be a surfer. They're usually buff, but often not huge (though they can be) again FYI, LOL

    36. Hehe yes I get that surfers probably are a lot tanner. But I were a little bit unsure about the special real skin, if that were the right choice for me. I have been thinking a little bit more about my character choice. There's a snowboarding game that I used to play a lot when I were younger called SSX 3. It's a very nostalgic game to me. In that game there's a Swedish character named "Viggo Rolig". He's such a goofball, and fun guy. He was one of my favourite characters in the game alongside with the British "Moby Jones". I could really see my Edan as a similar type of character. A bit tan, and blonde with light blue eyes.

But I feel that, that does not sound like a Sebastian to me. But more like a Viggo or Emil. I could definitely go for either of these two names.

Now I'm a little bit unsure if I should make the character a surfer or a snowboarder. There's so much nostalgia behind that snowboarding game though so I'm incredible tempted to make him a snowboarder named either Viggo or Emil. My character background seem to have changed a little bit after I started to look at the Edan sculpt. I see Edan a bit differently than I did with the Lawrence sculpt.

    37. If you haven't ordered yet, @manabusama I have both colors, and I think their intensity are similar, but the PG is more pink. These dolls are FID and OT but might help you get the idea. I think, for a surfer, RS is more appropriate but PG is OK too :) You can look around at these FIDs I have, and maybe compare. The boys are both RS, the other girl is Lt Brn. I hope it helps you :D Edit: My dolls are regular urethane, not the "French" or special version. Plus, the RS, I think even the special one, is nothing like the old/original "special real skin" which was very dark, very VERY olive (greenish) Again, even so, the PG should work as well :) Just note, although I think the color is beautiful, some think it looked like sunburned skin, LOL, and of course it depends on your other dolls I'd think? also, that might be desirable to you :D Hope you like your choice!

    38. I have not ordered yet. I have not had any chance to do any orders for quite a while now. And I have just spent $360 because the cat had to go to the vet. Got $370 in my doll funds. But the next doll I should order is my Supia Hamin. So I have no idea when I get to order him. But thanks for the pictures, I'll check them out :)

I do have a JID Sierra in PG. So I do know what the color looks like. But I have never owned an IP doll in RS before. I don't think the PG looks like the doll is sunburned though. But at the same time I can see why some people think it looks that way  I have to admit that I have been a little bit unsure of going for the PG now. It is a bit pink like you say. The reason I've been thinking of going for PG is because the colors matter when it comes to the type of character you want it to be. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel that the darker the skin tone on a doll, the more masculine it looks. The same face sculpt can look so different depending on which skin tone it have. As of right now I have no idea what to choose. But it's good that you tell me about these things, so that I know I'll be going for the right choice.

    39. @manabusama I also don't think the PG looks sunburned :D I'm just relaying info for you to make as informed a choice as possible, LOL :D Hope that doesn't sound like I'm making insults!!! Same with Hamon, I absolutely adore mine (she's getting dressed up today in a new outfit) but just want to point out "quirks' that I might notice or that I've heard other people complain about. No doll is perfect so it's good to make an informed decision :D

The old real skin only came in "special" which was "french" style. I don't think the new one is that color either. I would love to see examples of the new "Glow Special Real" to compare it to the normal Real, and see if the basic color is the same?? Anyone know?

Sorry peoples if I'm blunt! Sometimes I am like a machine, "only the facts mam..." I just hate reading when someone is super disappointed in their purchase :( It actually comes from empathy, LOL. I want people happy with their purchase, and for me, that means understanding each particular manufacturer's quirks. Iplehouse has gorgeous joints until you use them and body sculpting is amazing, with pretty good posing. But take Fairyland and they have stylistic bodies, often with imperfect seams, but awesome posing with smoother joints, etc.... They're different, offer different things, but if you expect it all, and don't get it, well, it would be better to make an informed decision. So, please don't take anything I say anywhere as an insult :P I'm just trying to help inform, and sometimes it's not my opinion, just what I've heard complained about :D

    40. @IngieBee Don't worry :) I appreciate it when people share info. When you're planning a new BJD sculpt you may not always know right away in which direction you're going. That's why getting info like this is very helpful :) You have given me something to think about when it comes to PG and RS. PG, as IH said to me when I ordered my Rania, is good if you want a more fragile look. I want a fearless, strong, adventurous, sun loving, goofball type of character. But the goofball part though makes me think that PG might be a better choice?

Oh, how do you do that blue @ before the name. I just get a black one :sweat I know there's a meaning behind the @, but so far I've actually just copied what I see other do without knowing much about it. A bit embarrassing :frownyblush:

    41. Oh, I put in a link @manabusama and it turns blue. Using the linked chain in the bar above. Yah, the color intensity is very similar, Real Skin is simply more brownish beige whereas PG is more peachy pinkish, as the name implies I guess, ROFL But real skin still has a nice fleshy tone, IMO :D That picture, if you click on the blue lettering, shows the indirect sunlight from huge windows, and that helps give you a range of colors that show the difference IMO. It's accuracy totally depends on the monitor, but hopefully you can judge the differences with the picture :D

Using links: You highlight your words, then click on the closed link icon, insert your URL, then accept it, and your words will be linked to that URL. If you want to remove the link, again, you highlight the words that contain a link, and click the icon next to it, that looks like it's breaking apart a link :D

    42. @IngieBee Hehe I think I got it  Yes I checked out the picture, but forgot to mention I had  It's actually quite similar in color. It's a really difficult choice. A part of me says to go for PG because I haven't seen many guys in that tone. Another part of me says to go for RS because it'll give him a bit more stronger look. It's a good thing there'll probably go many months before I can do the order. That gives me some time to decide :3nodding:

    43. Ah, good, then you have time :D
