Good news! NYID hands are a beautiful fit on old-YID wrists. The resin-matching is another matter, of course... the new resin formula is so different from any of the old ones... but hands can always be blushed, if you really want it badly enough. Here is a new (2014) Lt. Brown NYID hand on an old (2007) Lt. Tan YID Aaron. This resin-match is actually not that far off, which gives me the thought that maybe even Karim, with his old Tan resin, might have a chance at nice new hands if I put the effort into blushing them up. I am less sure about Realskin, since the older formula was so much more translucent than the current one.
Hey guys I was curious if anyone has a volks sd10 girl head and if it will work with the iplehouse yid bodies? I don't really care about resin match but if someone has the yid body and could show me the proportions it would be extremely appreciated.
That looks great! For matching the tans, I'd personally use a bit of Rit dye, since I've done a little dyeing to colormatch things before. I like dye better than blushing because dye is harder to rub off on high-friction parts like hands and wrists. Those hands look like a tinting with some Rit Dark brown would do them up perfectly. It would be interesting to see the differences between the realskins.
Oh, Rosslyn, I love Kevya. And looks like he has the eyes I want for my Dollshe Saint They look amazing with the dark hair. For me, Claire (YID Iris) is always #1 among the dolls. With so many new ones, I can't explain how she keeps being the favourite I don't play with Brendan (YID Soo Ri) as much, but he is very special to Claire and I Having said that, I have to admit that having more "action" around here did make me want to take the boy out of hiding, and I've had him at least sitting around watching me work on dresses on Claire. I am hoping to trace some Iplehouse pants so I can experiment a bit and see if I can figure out a pants pattern for him that works with his "assets".... I can't be the only one having front crotch issues with the boy and his pants... am I? Rabbit-moon, I'm not looking for the Gentle Soo Ri anymore, but if I see anything I'll PM you JennyNemesis, that is great to know for the boys as well! I believe the NYID girl hands fit the YID as well. If anyone wants to try that and post a picture. I can't remember where I put the one I had. I just wonder if the NS would match 2010 and 2012 resin? Bambi Darling, where in Canada are you? I am in the West end of Toronto, and I have a YID girl. If you have the head we can go for coffee and you can try it in person and see if it works for you I am overdue for a coffee date with the dollies anyway
Aw, thank you! The eyes are Volks light blue (baby blue?) metallic eyes. I do remember your Claire fondly, as the mods done for her inspired the massive modwork I did on my friend's YID girl.
Oh, thanks! I thought they looked like Eyeco B111 Fantasy eyes. I hear they come in 11mm instead of 12, and 13mm instead of 14. I tend to like smaller eyes in my dolls than the ones they come with And the Dollshe Saint has pretty small eyes. I think I am going to look at the Volks now
For a tiny eyed fella like Saint I'd keep Eyeco in your back pocket as an option. The Volks eyes are not exactly small-iris type, but they are pretty.
Amazing! Thanks a lot for this! Now, if anyone could try with the nYID girl hands, I'd be ever so grateful!
Wow! The nYID hands are gorgeous! I wish they'd made hands like that for the original YIDs. I've no talent for blushing or dying, so I guess my boys will have to keep their old paws.
Heh, my boys will probably keep their old paws too-- because those are the hands they got when I got them. I guess they don't drive me crazy enough to go through all the hassle of replacing them. xD The new ones sure do look pretty on Calidou here, though. ^^ Thanks to Farallon for letting me dismember a couple of his boys.
Oh! Jenny, your friend has a beautiful doll there, full of classic Iple yumminess! I like the original hands that were on the Iple boys when I got my Soori in early 2006. Once the new model and muscle bodies were introduced, those hands were replaced with the underwhelming pedestrian paws. I wonder sometimes, should we have told IH that we wanted the hands to be redone? Would they have taken offense?
You know Farallon's lovely renaissance men? They're so refined and civilized, always wearing that frilly finery. He has Light & Dark Aaron twins, who fill me with joy every time. (Also two Ryushins, whom I cannot get him enough to show off in enough pics.) The old-old hands had more expression, but were still so weird and boneless. Definitely from their 'abstract' period. ^^ They were cool in their own way, though. Ilya can smoke and pet Nastassja (or pet Adrian) at the same time.
Thanks for the photo, Jenny. Oh my, he's such a gorgeous fellow. Those hands on your Ilya are the hands I was talking about! I actually really liked those hands and wished they'd had those available for the later dolls.
8D THANK YOU!!! I apologize for the crappy phone pic but he really wanted to make an appearance!! Hopefully, I get a camera soon!!!!
LOL! knowyerrights, he looks fine. And, believe me, I know, when a doll wants to make an appearance, there is no stopping them! Your Aaron is a gorgeous guy, so snap away! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a little spamming of my own to do. Yesterday, after years of wishing and hoping, my dreams finally came true. The wonderful Hobbywhelmed graciously let me adopt her Tan Gentle Soori and he arrived yesterday, on Valentine's Day. Isn't that just perfect?! I had intended on naming him Omar, after Omar Khayyam, the 11th Century Persian poet who wrote The Rubaiyat. But, because he arrived on Valentine's Day it seemed like kismet to name him Valentine. Im so excited over this boy! I just love him! Isn't he a gorgeous chocolately color? Does Iplehouse even make this color anymore? And, after all these years, he doesn't even look like he's yellowed a bit. I am a happy woman!
Mazel tov and happy Valentine's! Wow, I didn't know Hobby had an extra Tan Gentle man hanging around the house... what an excellent set of circumstances for both of you! He looks like he's in perfect shape, and is just stunning. I can't wait to see that languid beauty all painted up. Was he from the initial November 2007 rerelease of Tan Soo Ri that came with both heads, or was he from a CDS order later on? The resin looks like it's from the original rerelease because it's so dark & glossy... Samir is that shiny, too. (He also has more olive-green undertones than Valentine does, but then Samir has lived outside the box for the past 7 years. ^^) Iples doesn't make Brown/Tan resin like they used to-- just last year they took all the translucence out of their formula so the brown resin is much earthier & chalkier now. We definitely got the best of it in the olden days.
He was from the first tan release after the model/muscle bodies came out, ordered late 2007. The G. head was a come-with, and they let me order an extra body for him. (The OE head/body combo went to someone else). I think that's when they started experimenting with the strength factor of French resin, because the hands were more waxy-looking than the rest of the dolls. Rabbit got the tan to look very rich, but in overcast daylight, it's a softer, drier chocolate tone. I remember someone at that time getting a pair that were an extra-very subdued tan, and she was sure they were starting out greened. I think it was just that the tan during this event had very little red dye, and certainly weren't the golden-yellow "mustard" tan some companies do. Rabbit, I guess that means you'll have to be on the look-out for another candidate to be Omar!
Oh yeah, you managed to wangle a second body out of them! I seem to remember hearing people did that at the time. Those old fullsets, used to be you bought the whole package and, unless you flung yourself on Iplehouse's mercy with a special request and they were in a generous mood, that was THAT. ^^ Samir still has his OE head which is so very gorgeous, but he just never wears it. The resin was definitely at an experimental stage; "very little red dye" must've been it. Samir is markedly greener than Karim or the other old-Tan guys, a more cool-toned tan (which photographs biliously if there is even one green plant nearby!). I think they hit the sweet-spot in their formula during the previous '07 Tan run, when they came out with Tan Lion and the Aarons, who still look so great... just a little more red to cancel out the green and a little more golden in the mix to add a glow. (Runner-up: the batch of brown they used for EID Luo the Strongman just a year later. ) This guy ^ could also have the best of both worlds and pick a middle name, so he can be Valentine Omar. Samir, just because.
Just because, indeed.... I've also got a tan Lion, but I'd have to check my records to see when he was made. I remember the seller calling him the "11th Lion" - apparently there were 10 made, but they must have done the same thing and provided a G. head, because she'd asked for an extra body and gotten it. He's been modded a bit to open his eyes more. I have to change the angle of the right eyelid, though, because he sometimes has that slightly post-stroke expression, which really shortcircuits the studmuffinery-- His resin can look very different in different light angles too--he looks kind of terracotta above, but more subdued like richens up the tan considerably: http://www.synchronicitypark.com/mixedpix3/11thlion-6131.jpg
Oh yeah, wasn't it Juubei who'd thought to wangle a second body, effectively making the 11th Lion (he was indeed LE10)? I do remember him. He's the only Gentle Lion head in the world that I know of, anyway. Maybe eyelashes would mitigate any post-stroke droopiness? His sockets look pretty OK to me, from here. He's also got that great mane of hair that can distract from any facial asymmetry. ^^ The Dreaming head was absolutely too beautiful for me to want to mod... and Karim was too singular a character for me to want to make 2 dolls out of him, so he's just got a sleepy self and his regular OE self. It was tempting to have twins, of course, but Karim is one of those Highlander type Lions (there can be only one).
OMG! So much tan yumminess! *faints* Hobby and Jenny, your boys are spectacular! Thanks so much for all the info on the Iplehouse tans. I love the old tan YIDs. They are like owning a part of history. I know this may sound crazy, but I miss the old days when there were fewer companies. I feel kinda overwhelmed by all the companies and all the dolls available, now. I remember when I use to spend hours just perusing the Luts sites.
I know what you mean-- it's easy to fall back into the smaller bubble of the companies we first fell in love with in the early days, because there's so much stylistic sprawl today. Also, some of us just really still like the things we originally fell in love with, and are old and set-in-our-ways. ^^ I can't wait to see how you get Valentine painted up!
LOL! Yes, I think you've hit the nail right on the head, Jenny! It's been almost a decade since I fell in love with BJDs. That was a giddy, and exciting time. The blush of first love still lingers over my earliest acquired boys. *sigh* I don't get that feeling when I look at the myriad of newer dolls. And, having so many of my beloved sculpts discontinued just makes them even more special. (Makes me want to gather up the beautiful old timers I missed out on before they are gone for good.) Or, I could be an old lady set in my ways. Yeah, that could be it.
Or, y'know, both... lilbit from column A, lilbit from column B. xD I know I'm an old fart who's set in my ways, AND I know that I like what I like. And I like looking at my old guys here. I like remembering the hoops I jumped through to get them back in the olden days when everything was new, and I also just plain love the old sculptural styles. Some of the new faces are plenty exciting but not that I could 'see' them at home in my collection. (At least, not Iples. But I must admit, Volks's men are constantly testing my resolve. ^^) Here's some new shots of my newest-old-guy... the last YID I bought, and the only one who isn't part of the Ilya & Karim's family. Our flibbertigibbety Rémy isn't much of a reader, but oh how he loves those glossy Vogue men. http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...y-pictures-(Rémy-Iplehouse-YID-realskin-Mars) <= more in gallery
OH MY! I love your Mars! Remy is so scrumptious! You know, I could kick myself now for not getting a Mars when I had the chance. I so did not "get" what that sculpt was all about when it first came out. The original face-up was so soft, and I guess I just didn't realize how gorgeous he was until it was too late. I've done that before with dolls. At first, Im not attracted to them, and in some cases even thought they were ugly, and then suddenly, BOOM! I see them with new eyes and have to have them! But, generally, by the time that happens, its too late and the sale is over. Mars is also very different looking from the other older YID boys. I think the new sculptor, who was gearing up to do the new line of EIDs, did Mars' face. I don't think I was ready for such a big a stylistic/sculptural change. (Darn my 'old-stick-in-the-muddiness') Well, at least I know I can admire your boy.
Hehe, thanks! Well, as you guys have all proven with the Barrons and Tan Gentle Soo Ris, there is always the old-school head of your dreams floating around out there on the Marketplace somewhere. Maybe that Mars will find his way to your house someday. You're definitely right that Mars & his contemporaries back in 2009 (Ryushin, Barron, Freezia, Akando, etc.) were the very beginnings of the current Iple style.... Even today, look through the men's & women's faces and you can still see Mars-features being recycled in there. It was tempting to make my Claude related to Remy, too, because they look so much alike, but no. ^^ Half the JIDs look like Mars-cousins, too, both boys & girls. I always loved Mars's boy-toy look, but I didn't go for him until they released all those YIDs in Realskin for that Special Edition. Remy is the ultimate boy-toy. This is his original SE faceup, which is also very soft. I think the original NS LE of Mars had a backstory as a model, quite coy and girly... and a wonderfully trashed-up designer outfit which I still crave to this day. But he didn't get officially irresistible until Realskin. (Ahh, and even then I almost couldn't decide between Ryushin and Mars, on that glorious SE release-- Remy here was destined to be a Mars, but he was almost a Ryushin. Luckily my local friend Farallon was getting a Ryushin, so I get to still visit him.)
I LOVE that guy! I saw him guest-star in a pic in the EID/SID spam thread... His rock-star hair and extra-saucy faceup melt my heart. He looks even saucier than Remy. ^^
So true! I guess I could get a JID to supplant my Mars craving. But, Mars was the first, and that makes him special! Ooooh! More Mars hotness! Im so jealous!
D'awww, thank you! Lu is flattered. It's funny how he looks sweet when his eyes are turned the other way, and a minx - or a snob, sometimes - when they're turned this way. ) I wanted him so bad before, but they had already phased him out. Sometimes, though rarely, he pops up on the Marketplace - I was lucky enough to have had extra funds from when I sold his old shell (a DOD Ducan) to get this one!
Ahh, I can see where Lu's character would have made a great Ducan-- the sly eyes and the smirk. ^^ He looks so great as a Mars! I too love the way Mars can look dewy-eyed and sweet from one angle, but sexy and worldly and come-hither from another angle. Boy-toy Remy needed to be all those things. =D
omigosh!! this thread has new posts?! AMAZING i love seeing everyone's mars! i think i say every time how awesomely versatile i find this sculpt, but it's just so cool to see how different they always look. i've seen some really masculine mars and others that are just so pretty i want to kiss them here are my boys, just loving that i put all these flowers on them:
Reeeeeeid! Hi beauty! I haven't seen him in forever! He looks happy that it's showering spring flowers. The beauteous Lee looks less-thrilled.
eeep, thank you!! i wish it were spring already. i haven't been able to take photos on weekdays in FOREVER because it's always dark out by the time i get home. ;____; since i don't have any new photos of my own, can i request happy spam of other people's oYIDs? you just don't see them around that often!
Sure-- I never get tired of looking at Karim. We have been having insultingly blue sunny skies all this month (and no rain, which we need) (but it does make for nice photos.)
I had to do MAJOR sorting/shredding/condensing of the paperwork/printouts I've accrued over time - found the original PM exchanges from when I bought my Anzu - Soo-ri, old long-leg body. So he was already 2nd-hand in early 2007, poor fellow. His previous owner "couldn't bond" with him. No problem with that here--
Oh, Anzu! I have a major crush on that boy! Im a serious Soori fangirl, and your sweet Anzu has always been a favorite of mine. I think it's his soft-looking face-up that makes him so different from other Soori's. (and not too many Soori's can carry off wearing a dress like he can! )
Anzu was always the anti-Ilya! Such a soft gentle face. And can also rock some rainbow sequins like nobody's business. Ilya has worn a tube-top before, but no dresses....
Wow! Hobby and Jenny, your Soori's are as different as night and day! And both gorgeous! Squee! on the rainbow sequins! And drool! on the revealing tube top! It's a win-win!
Ilya is back again, and it's finally his moment in the annual Sexy Birthday Caveman spotlight! http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...thday-caveman-(Ilya-Iplehouse-YID-tan-Soo-Ri) <= gallery pin-ups I can't believe I keep getting older every year (it's 45 this time), and I can't believe I've managed to never choose Ilya for caveman duty before. There's just always been some excuse. Well, no more excuses-- and now that I see how perfect he is, I am begging the Universe for forgiveness for all the time I wasted. Ilya is just always the ultimate pin-up. My Claude & my Akando both managed to make this costume look wholesome, but Ilya makes it look soooo trashy.
And look how clean he picked those bones...he's so...proficient.... Happy birthday! (I liked the 40's. At that point, with a glare, you still get to slide under that "acting your age" limbo pole.) Must go check out his full shoot now....
Ah! That gorgeous Soori face! I will never stop loving that face. Every time I see this classic sculpt and I'm transported in time. I know it may sound crazy, but seeing him makes me feel young and in love. Just a wonderful sculpt.
Ilya is a messy eater, but he does always chew the bones squeaky-clean. Ask Adrian. I don't even believe in the existence of the "acting your age" pole! Does not compute in my world. Fageddaboudit. Life is too short not to make yourself Foxy Caveman dolls once a year. : Thanks! 45 feels just like 44, just a lilbit droopier every year, wheee. It's the fangirl reflex.... Just looking at the old faces you fell in love with is enough to turn any sane woman back into a newbie fangirl. And 2006 had lots of fun in it to remember, that's for sure. How I loved shopping for the trashiest of trashy clothes for Ilya.... before his body-type went out of fashion and everybody stopped making his size clothing. ^^ He's a Pre-YID, so skinny; damned if he isn't just an SD10 who's 63cm tall.
Wow! What a lovely photo, Aki_Ross. She looks so pensive. I like how you set the scene with the props and lighting; so atmospheric. Gee! this thread been very quiet. Here's a photo of my Grail Boy, Tan Gentle SooRi, now that he has a face-up.. (Thank you again Hobbywhelmed! I love this guy!)
OMG yay yay yay yay, you got one! Congratulations!! : He's so beautiful! I love him with the black lipstick-- a nod to the original glam faceup. ;3. Is he really Tan, or is he Realskin? Perhaps it's just the photo lighting, but he looks a bit paler than Ilya & a lot lighter than Samir. It makes him look wonderful as a blonde, even with the dark lips. What a gorgeous caramel latte color. @Aki_Ross , that is a wonderful photo! I totally get the mood. Freezia is definitely a good sculpt to portray fatigue and anxiety, especially in that glaring light. ^^ Where'd you get her desk lamp, by the way? It's excellent.
Thanks Hervoyel! Isn't he just scrumptious? So yummy in that gorgeous tan color. Thanks JennyNemesis! If you look back a couple of pages you will see that Hobbywhelmed sold him to me last year. He arrived on Valentine's Day 2015. He's from 2007. Iplehouse Basic YID dolls Discussion Part III I guess the sunlight in the photo is making him look more like real skin, but he's definitely darker in person. I got a face-up for him a while ago, but never got around to posting pictures of him. (My bad...) But, isn't he divine? I'm absolutely mad about this boy! I'm still trying to get his costume squared away. Plain ol' jeans or leather are just not going to work for this boy.
Darn that memory-loss-- lookit, there I am, Valentines of 2015, congratulating you on the arrival of this doll. Old brains, full of holes! Well, double secondary belated congratulations are still in order for you finally getting the faceup + then finally putting up pictures. ^^ He looks absolutely stunning. And wow, yes, he sure IS the right deep tan resin, and the lighting makes such a big difference! Doll photography can be so finicky like that, sometimes. What sort of costume will he be wearing? I should pay homage to the Tan Gentle crowd, here. As much as I adore the classic open-eyed sculpt, there is something very special about this face. (And they just looked so great in tan. )
Oh my, JennyNemesis! What an exquisite photo of Samir. Holy guacamole! What an expressive and yet serene, face he has in that photo. He takes my breath away - he's so gorgeous! I was having some serious issues about how I wanted to go with his face-up. Some days I was all about honoring the style of face-up Iplehouse gave him back in 2007; so warm and gentle. But, then, I really-really loved the original dark and dramatic face-up the first Tan Soori had, with that tattoo on his face and the killer leather costume. (I have kicked myself everyday for not getting that first Tan Soori!) So, I finally decided on the dark face-up, because I like my boys moody and slightly twisted. (And, definitely, a hollerback to my first tan love.) About the costume, since no one seems to make those gorgeous, decadent leather costumes anymore, Im thinking of going with something fancifully Arabian nights. I've yet to decide, since Im rather fond of his chocolately goodness in the buff. (And, yes, I am a dirty old lady )
Oh yeah, that 2005 style-- tattoos, black lipstick, leather, how I miss it sometimes! And if dark-and-dramatic is your true first love, then yes, you TOtally have to go with that faceup because that's where your heart leads. ^^ Anyway, if you ever get tired of it for some reason, you can always change it & go warm-and-gentle instead. I really love the job you did on your boy here. The faceup is dark, but not so stark that it looks weird against anything non-black-and-goth. Tan Soo Ri v.2's default faceup definitely was the pinnacle of Warm & Gentle, : ::mwah::. Samir's open-eyed head is soooo stunning, as well, with the same soft warm faceup; I sometimes hate that he never uses that head, because it's so beautiful, but I've just gotten used to him as the Gentle head (and besides, the open-eyed face is Ilya, and there can only be one Ilya). Samir has also done Arabian Nights, btw-- : that crazy Soom "Desert Hermit" outfit! It'd also look great with a goth faceup, IMHO. It's not in character for him but I adore it.
Gorgeous photo, Jenny! Your Gentle Soori is so resplendent and princely in that Arabian costume. Of course, he would look princely in rags, he's so noble and aristocratic. When I get my boy's costume squared away I will definitely post a photo. Thanks again! BTW, where's Hobbywhelmed? I thought for sure she'd pop by to give Valentine some "old YID" love.
