Ah. I have 2 of the old YID, an Iris and a Soo Ri, and I have an nYID girl Emilia, but not a nYID boy yet :/ Booo.

I got Claire (YID Iris) a new wig the other day, but I am trying to figure out how to style it, so I can make her look pretty before I post her here lol
I've never had to deal with such a super curly wig before. I got her the Monique Gold Mallory in double red. It looks GORGEOUS. If I don't touch it a lot lol

 

I have a gentle soori head that I'm using as face-up practice. He is such a beautiful sculpt. I think he's so underrated!

I gave my Mars yet another new faceup, but I have yet to take any pictures of him. Dx I've been working on getting a new face for my Ryushin, too, since his company face was starting to come off around his jawline, and I've done it three times now and hated it every time. 3:< So. Now he is in the hands of my gf, who will make him gorgeous, and I will not throw him into the driveway in a rage.

Too feminine is subjective. Most BJDs that are intended to be male are "too feminine" for my personal tastes. The real issue is, do you like him this way? If so, then he's fine.

 

^ I think he looks very dashing with long hair. Louis is just never going to be a very butch sculpt, no matter how you slice him, so let yourself go wild when it comes to hair choices.

I would like to see pictures of him, too! Gentle Soo Ri is such a lovely boy.
Here is Samir... he's another one I don't require too much butchness of, not with that amount of lipgloss. I just enjoy his toffee languidness.

Thank you! I'm trying to strive for neutral face-up. I've noticed a lot of people love the whole "tough teen" look. I thought Gentle Soori had it, but I haven't seen enough custom faced-up GSooris. He's pretty illusive. As for Louis, I'm gonna have to be a loser here and admit, I absolutely fell in love with his original presentation back then, so I kept it. I just try to dress him up in the best clothing, to make up for the lack of originality. There are some awesome unique Louis out there like Morelle's.

Can't wait to see it - I love before and after wig shots! And I love how the wig works with the colours in that outfit - I have that same set, it's a totally different look on him than it is on (for example) my Aaron:

I dunno why separate threads for the two types of YID... it's just the way things are set up at the moment. I guess because the old YIDs are discontinued, they figure nobody in the nYID thread wants to talk about them. ^^

 

It's easier to keep the two as-is, since the two sizes have different mobility capabilities, possibly fit differently into different clothes, and in other threads that I have been in with many sculpts from one company, the new ones tend to totally dominate the discussion. I like having a place to remember these wonderful old YIDs, since their overall face shapes were among my very favorites in the whole hobby.

Iplehouse's newer stuff looks like it's all by a different artist, to me. Jessica-faces everywhere. They all have this same inverted triangle nose bridge structure I have never seen on a real human, (and I've seen/drawn-from-life a LOT of faces) and the same really wide set almond eyes. Only a few of them don't follow that basic template.

 

Styles have definitely shifted over the years - no more big heads, big eyes, or long willowy legs - i.e. no more classic-BJD-structure. All of my old YID boys wear 16mm eyes, 14mm at the smallest, but these days everyone seems to take 12s and 10s. Wig sizes, already difficult, have gone to almost-MSD sizes. And I agree, most of the women are all starting to look like Jessica lately (though I like the big nose on Aaliyah the vampire ^^) and the men are starting to look pretty homogeneous too. I miss the more stylized bone structure of the big-eyed old faces.

I also like my men pretty. Tedros is about as craggy as I care to go, and Iples blew past that level of cragginess years ago.

 

I agree, for some reason, the new girls just aren't giving me the wow factor and now you guys have pin pointed the reason why. nYID Andrew and SID Theo are the only I like. However, Louis, Freezia, Iris look the somewhat same . What was their first doll's name again, I forget the name. I think it was a Korean name.

 

It's been a while since I've been in the thread (stupid school!). I completely agree with Rosslyn about the Jessica look-a-like syndrome with the nYIDs. If I had to get a nYID girl, it would be Bianca or Rexy honestly. But, I'm still holding on to the idea of rereleasing Mars.
JennyNemesis: I'm indifferent to the new style direction of the nYIDs but I agree with you on the homogeneity on the new boys and the Jessica thing. It bugs me to no end and I'm not interested enough to buy any of the nYID girls because they all look alike. It makes me wonder if this continues, where will the nYID end up?Just my two cents.

 

Jessica is not a who so much as a what: an Iplehouse EID with a kind of Barbie like face- bulbed nose end, wide set eyes, rounded and almond also, and with an inverted triangle nose bridge that seems to seep into too many of the new sculpts and looks weird to me.

I think what bugs me is on some of the new dolls, the distance between the two eyes is far wider than the distance between the outsides of the nostrils, which is a bizarre proportion.

EID Yur and Luna also have this problem.
None of the EID men seem to have this problem.
The NYID girls Audrey, Rexy, and Emilia have it, and I think Erica have a similar face. Narrow nose, really wide set eyes, really inverted triangle nose.
Neither of the basic nYID boys has it.

The only Old YID boy who has it slightly is Mars. His nose is the right width at the nostrils, but his nose bridge is definitely that inverted triangle. I think I still like his face because his nose is still wider than the distance between his eyes.

Axis just got a new guitar! Its a 1:3 scale Fender Telecaster. We named the guitar Ares. More pics here.

 

Hottie rockstar!! I've only ever got 1:4 scale guitar models; your Ares is a great find.

PS. I like the big fuzzy rockstar wig on him best. Marses are capable of wearing all manner of ridiculous things while maintaining their dignity & looking great!

 

Thanks Jenny! Ares was a lucky find. I was originally drooling over Crobidoll guitars, but they were way out of my budget. Good thing the seller we found was selling this at a really good price (with free shipping!).

The fuzzy wig was actually his first wig! Its been a long time since he wore it, so I'm no longer used to him wearing that. But I agree, Marses can definitely wear anything but still maintain their good looks.

Hi guys this is Gio's roomie currently influenced by her to go head on and purchase someone's Freezia. My first girl doll out of a six pack of boys. (one is/will be an EID)

Awww!!! Claire is looking awesome! That wig does look fantastic on her btw. I love the curls and the big fluffyness of it overall.

And not sure if this is common knowledge, but I just bought some SD13 clothes from the Volks store in LA. They fit my Louis quite snug for the most part, however, the the old YID body waist is much thinner than Volk's waist, but not so much that his pants will droop. It's not tight fitted like how I would imagine Sadol's clothes to fit though.

 

^ Hehe, yes, Volks SD13 pants & Volks SD13 boys have big butts & big hips. YIDs have no hips to speak of, so waistlines fit them differently. If you don't mind a baggier look, or if your YID will be wearing a long shirt that covers the waistline, they can get away with Volks pants just fine. But for a fitted look, yes, one must scrounge a bit for slim-cut pants.

It will be a shame to lose the Iplehouse YID clothing line-- they made such nice jeans, so perfectly fitted, I've been relying on them to clothe my slimmer boys! ;; Here, both my Tan Lion & my Volks SDGraffiti boy are wearing Iplehouse jeans, which I think make them look so slim & chic.

Right now, Volks is under the impression that SDGraffiti boys can wear SD13 clothes, so they haven't yet made a specific SDGr clothing size yet-- but they totally should. You can see how much SDGr and YID are built alike; same extra-long legs, extra-narrow hips, and lack of buttocks; neither of them is shaped like an SD13. If Volks ever DOES decide to make slimmer SDGr sized clothing, we will all be in luck for shopping for our old YIDs.

 

Hahaha, I had to look up SD Graffiti. It looks like the outfit I bought for my Louis is for this series. I am going to try out Sadol's SD13 long leg sizes, because it doesn't seem like they're offering anymore Lati Red sizes. Come to think of it, Lati red dolls are so illusive and they never seem to be in sale. I''m pretty sure that's why they're ridding the Lati option. I would imagine their sd13 long leg is probably going to be as similar as SDGraffiti fit. I sadly haven't been to able to investigate the matter because the outfits I want are pricey for my wallet as of now.

 

Well, right now, Volks makes only one clothing-size to fit both SDGraffiti & SD13... they seem to intend that the slender Graffiti guys all go around with baggy pants. ^^ Graffiti is a relatively recent model, so they didn't get a whole new line of clothes in their own sizes. It's just they happen to be YID-sized, so up till now I've been lucky letting them share pants with the Iplehouse boys.

But now that the YID clothing line is going away at Iples, and-- as you say-- Lati Red no longer seems to be a common size, it's getting trickier to find slim-cut clothes at Sadol! I keep thinking that ONE of Sadol's sizes must fit these skinny guys, but I haven't shopped there in a long time either, so I don't know who they're using as fit-models these days.

 

I'd like to share, I recently got a pair of jeans from Cross Church (Taobao) and they surprisingly fit Axis well. And the length is just right. :P I might try buying another pair there next time.

It's been awhile since I last looked at the old YID threads. I have to laugh about Rosslyn's comment a page or so back on all the "Jessica's" that dominate the IH dolls any more. I was actually thinking that myself the other day. I too miss the old aesthetic. I did cave and put a nYID WS Patrick on layaway. Partly because I can't find a WS Lion on the MP, and also he does really fit an old character I want to shell. I wanted to say also - you Louis owners who shared pics have actually made me like Louis! He can really be a very nice doll!

I made my LT Aaron some new clothes and finally took him outside for a photo shoot. I adore this doll. He is amazing to take pics of.

I still wish IH would bring back their old sculpts, even if for only a limited time. *sigh*

 

Aaron is a beauty! He has great bones, makes a wonderful photo subject. Your boy is so handsome; without the beard, you can really see how much he looks like Ryushin and Barron.

I know I must've shared this photo many times, but it's my favorite shot of my friend's twin Light & Dark Aarons. They [and my friend] no longer live across the street from me, but back in the very old days these twin beauties used to come stay at my house for glamour shots.

I hope you find your WS Lion someday! Lion is one of the classic beauties I will miss most. His features do live on in many of the newer sculpts, though; every time you see that combination of a square chin and a curvy kitty-mouth (like Tedros & Patrick & Justin & the new JID Owen), you can see Lion's bloodline in their features.

I always wanted Aaron, and so through the years until I *finally* got my own, I used to stalk every now and again to find pics of him. I remember seeing several pics of the Light and Dark Aaron twins. Does your friend still have them?

I do agree you can see bits of the old dolls - lol, once you pointed it out to me. One of these days I'll find my WS Lion!

It's funny, I was just looking at the basic SIDs, and the new B faceup for Storm really reminds me of Aaron - something about the whispy beard and the pointy eyebrows.

My friend no longer has these particular two Aarons... he sold the two of them to another friend, who still lives here in town, & still keeps the two brothers together. When I used to borrow them, they were Rashid and Diego; now, they are Amadou and Calidou.

(And now that they belong to Farallon, they always dress in the finest Venetian Renaissance frills, instead of AnotherSpace robes. You might have seen Farallon's boys around on DOA; they're all recognizable in those clothes. Two Ryushins, two Aarons, a Claude & a Denzel & a Justin, all in lots of big hair with small hats, tights, lace, brocades, cloaks, and court slippers. ^^)

Also, I've got another friend who might still have an old Lion for sale... he might be NS instead of WS, but I'll go ask him about it.

It's true, Storm is definitely a cousin of Aaron-Barron-and-Ryushin too! It's that bloodline with the broad flat cheekbones, broad nose, soft-square chin & a wide mouth, they all echo each other... amazing how Ryushin can look Asian or Caucasian, Storm looks mostly Caucasian, and Aaron can look any kind of African or Asian mix, and yet they all share those features.

And I'd recognize that particular white-haired dandy Aaron anywhere.

Way waaaay back when I was first really started getting that spark of interest towards BJDs, my friend and I had our eyes on Aaron and Ryushin. We jokingly decided that should I ever get Ryushin and should she ever get Aaron, that we would dress them up as the Harry Potter Weasley Twins.... ((Because we're terribly bad people with a shameful sense of humor ))

Unfortunately, Aaron was unavailable for a long while, and so when my friend was finally in the market to purchase her first BJD, she ((unregrettably)) settled for JID Tatiana.

I've always had a soft spot for Aaron though. He's ALWAYS so good looking!

One of the fun perks of the Ryushin sculpt is that if you angle the head juuuust right, it can look like he's smiling a little

When Iples first had that open Special Event where you could get any YID in Realskin, I was torn between Ryushin & Mars-- I could only make a decision after I heard that my nearby friend Farallon was getting a Ryushin, so therefore I could get Mars. ^^ Yes, Ryushin's definitely got some smiley angles, and some stern angles. Farallon has both Realskin & NS Ryushins-- the NS brother is the sterner elder bro. Your Zeek looks oh so much softer & sweeter! Spam him anytime please! I always love seeing Ryushin pictures.

 

If you were caught between choosing Mars or Ryushin... no matter who you'd have ended up with, you couldn't have possible made a 'wrong choice'. They're both winners!

And yeah, I fell for Ryushin's friendly face! I thought for sure that he'd end up being energetic and comical... but instead, my Zeek ended up being more of a laid back shy-guy/boy-next-door Lap Doll!
I don't really mind, though. He keeps me plenty happy all the same.

That's OK - Rémy isn't shy, so he doesn't mind showing himself off. I just can't remember if I've already shared this particular picture before? - whether or not I have, it's a good one for encapsulating Rémy. I bought Mars because I wanted a pretty little flowerlike bishonen; some people's Marses are sharper-looking than that, but I got the misty-eyed flibbertygibbet I wanted. I have put sharper-looking eyes in him before, but he still always ends up looking slightly ditzy.

Rémy is always going for maximum sensuality, and sometimes achieves alarming levels of it... but he's still young, just coming out of his awkward stage, so he flubs it fairly often. ^^



I think I could've made a Ryushin come off with the same look, really. He'd've been great in either sculpt, you're right! But I'd always admired Mars ever since his release, and seeing him in Realskin really drilled me with the the Must-Haves.

Zeek is very much the cuddly boy-next door type! I love his big lively eyes and shaggy hair. What a cutie.

 

Eek! Mars and Ryushin! Zeek is so cute and fresh-faced! I love how you bring out his little smile; my Ryushin is not the smiley type, so I'm constantly trying to downplay the smirk! xD And I agree, spam him anytime. Not enough Ryushins out there! I was looking for face-up examples of the sculpt recently, and I could barely find anything. ;_;

Realskin Rémy is just lovely. I can't imagine him any other way. He looks so soft and glowing. 33333

Oh, a couples shot of Lee & Reid! I love seeing those two! And, hehe, ^ actually Reid is a boy from head to toe, but he just keeps his Beautiful Clairol Lady Hair flawlessly. Mars does make a perfect genderbender, and I know I have seen one or two Mars-female dolls out there.

Remy's wearing Ginarolo eyes in 14mm (Steel Blue with Amber Ring)... They have an extra large and misty pupil, so they give him the best of both worlds of sensuality and ditziness.

 

You nailed it! You absolutely nailed it! The RealSkin gives Rémi such a nice warmth... and his sculp really suggests a 'coming of age' kind of feel. He's amazing!

And I know what you mean about finding pictures of home owned Ryushins... Way back when I got mine ((2009, I think)), he was a difficult sculpt to find reference of. I only knew of 2 other Ryushin owners @.@
Mine is just the default Iplehouse Face Up... without the eyelashes ((they fell off within the first week of my getting him)) but I actually prefer Zeek without them. It seem make his big brown eyes stand out more.

Zeek doesn't stand up very well ... I recently tried restringing him, and I got him to stand up, finally... and it ended up playing out like this

Josie : Woah, Zeek! Now you will stand up on your own two feet!
Zeek : No, I refuse! Pick me up! Pick me uuuup!!! ~starts getting a little wobbly~
Josie : Wait... I... eeer.................................. Okay ~Sighs, all defeated~

I've got silicone kips on the way, though. We'll see if that helps... but even still, even if it transforms him into the perfect posing and standing doll... he'll probably still end up being a lapdoll ... I think that's just how he wants it

Hi Guys, Joining the thread. I just got an ebony Cocori and love her! All the pics of Aaron, are making me want one. LOL I had a new YID but the body proportions were a bit overall big for me, the old YID proportions fit in with my bigger girls much better. I wish they still offered the old body as an option sort of like Fairyland is doing with their new Minifee body. I like some of the old sculpts too but would love some of the new sculpts on the slimmer old YID body. Would the new YID, SID and EID heads fit the old bodies?
