Iplehouse B.I.D. Baby discussion part 7

Feb 15, 2014

    1. Guh, they look so cute! I love that little flyer, too. I wish we had just a bit of snow so I could photograph my plum tree against a nice white background. It's been slightly below freezing all week, which is unusual for us, but very little precipitation. We had snow one morning, and it had melted completely by 11am.

It's a nice wig on her. Do you photograph her in front of posters? Or a green screen?

Here's one of the pictures I took in my tree, my Bono:

There's more on Flickr, but here's one of Serca: https://flic.kr/p/rqDhpN

    2. I'm pleased that this ensemble is finally complete:

    3. Your Bono looks so cute in the plum tree. I couldn't open the Flickr links as my computer seems to be acting up this morning.

I envy you your spring blossoms. This is what it's like around here - we went to Niagara Falls yesterday.....and the ice and snow were almost to the tops of the railings.....

    4. What lovely photos, everyone! I'm sure I've stood in almost that same spot, MB Lilac, but never in winter.

Meet my new boy, Martyn, barely home an hour and already knows this sweater is for him! He's a BID Efreet in real skin. Love him!!!

    5. So cute! But I get cold just looking at his bare legs.

    6. Love the dress! Are the sleeves embroidered or is that ribbon?

I wouldn't be able to handle all that snow. Other than the year I spent in Manhattan, I have lived for the last 18 years of my life in Texas and have gotten far to used to relatively warm winters. I'm absolutely thrilled on the rare occasions it snows so that I can make sad, tiny snowmen.

Here's Serca with a better view of the flowers for you.

      So cute! Congratulations :D

    7. Your Serca is lovely, just like the plum flowers, Zardi.

Martyn has some nice jeans, but I need to alter them a bit. He didn't want to wear pj bottoms, MB Lilac. :)

    8. Thank you! :)

Coco is jealous about her lack of screen time.

    9. I used embroidery and a lot of hand sewing for that ensemble. It feels weird to finally be done with it.

    10. Forgot to mention that his sweater looks great. Are you knitting it from the top down?

Yes, you have to watch out that you don't 'favour' anyone. Coco is so cute, and I love the blossoms! Unfortunately we are in for yet another snow storm today. And then freezing rain. Sigh....

It's very pretty. I know it always feels a bit weird to be finished something - like you don't know what to do with yourself now.

    11. Yes, Martyn's sweater is knit from the top down. It's a free pattern for littlefee's on Ravelry. I'm not sure how to post the link, other than just paste it, if it's allowed.

    12. Yes, please do. I'm always on the lookout for another sweater pattern for my little ones.

    13. love the plum blossoms (and your girls amongst them), but like mblilac we are still in the midst of snow and cold winds - though not nearly as much as they are getting down east!
you just need to be like me and have crafters add. i have so many projects on the go, that when i finish any one of them there are always lots more that i am working on, so i just move along to the next one(s)

    14. Thanks :) I hope everything is ok after the snow storm. I myself am waiting for warmer weather so I can fix Coco's chipped nose blushing. I dropped her face plate a few months ago, and the chip is getting worse, the poor thing. What do you all do who have months of actual winter? Just not do face-ups at all for half the year?

Thanks! I'm hoping we'll get sunshine soon so I can take more pictures before the flowers are gone.

I have lots of sewing projects going on at once, and it practically makes me itch to see them all unfinished. I'm actually trying to do the opposite: have only one going on at any time, and finish it before starting a new one. It isn't going well. But at least I'm never bored! ;)

    15. All kids are so nice!
Bono is my first BID, and I love her:

    16. She's really cute! I'm loving all the Bonos.

My Holly and two friends went down to the lake today to feed the birds, and came across some penguins.
With it having been so ridiculously cold here all of February, they probably got confused and ended up here by mistake....

    17. Such a beautiful Bono, Meotis! Is she normal skin or peach gold?

MB Lilac, I chuckled when I saw that photo on your blog earlier today. Seeing it again made me laugh all over again. You always come up with such clever poses for your dolls. The girls (and the penguins) look so natural.

    18. MB Lilac , thanks for your kind words! Your photos are so wonderful, it is pleasure to see them.
vermont chick , thank you! My Bono is peach gold. I usually prefer PG in Iplehouse dolls.

    19. that's great mb lilac, your penguins make the snow fun again :)

    20. Very cute! Now she just needs some friends ;)
I love how you managed to make them look confused :D

    21. It took me forever to go through all these posts, but I must say it was worth it . . . fabulous photos! MB Lilac I do love how you dress your BID's, they look like real children. :)

I hate making boy clothes so my guys don't get quite as much exposure, but I took advantage of the Iplehouse sale and they are now dressed in style! No more girly clothes for these lads! LOL!

    22. Here is three cute little boys, special mention for Raven, he countered so real.

    23. What cute little boys! You did well with the sale. I also don't like sewing boy clothes - esp their pants.

Earlier this week some of my kids made a snow fort.....

    24. You're very welcome, Jenny!

      Another awesome photo, MB Lilac!!!

    25. Thank you. Yes, I agree, pants are the pits. Just out of curiosity, how long does it take you to set up a photo like that? You always manage to get your photos looking so perfect that one feels like they could walk into them.

    26. I did manage to make some overalls, but forget making nice jeans. I purchased several pairs last time I ordered some dolls.

I think that particular photo shoot took maybe half an hour in total. I just chose several dolls that were already in their 'winter wear'. It was a very warm sunny day and I didn't want the dolls to be in the sun - even though I was going to be shooting in the shade. I went out to make the little fort in my upper garden. My backyard sits in a hill, so my garden is tiered, which makes the perfect place to set up dolls for photos. Any dolls that were going to actually be in the snow fort, were first stuck into plastic sandwich bags up to their waists and secured by an elastic, so their clothes wouldn't get too wet. I pull up a garden bench to sit on and take the photos.

If you are interested, I've started a series of doll photography tips on my Blog. Just go to my website (see below) and go to 'Blog'

    27. Anjav, your girls are so pretty! Who did their face-ups?

    28. Lovely little girls!

    29. OK I just have to jump in here and share this. Today I saw a little girl at our local mall who looked exactly like Ringo. I'm not even kidding! She had black hair and eyes and was staring at me and I was staring at her and she was just so adorable XD

That's all really, I just had to tell you guys because I was gushing to my parents about it and they didn't understand T_T

    30. make you wish you had Ringo with you so you could ask her mom if you could take a picture of the two together lol.

    31. It's amazing how that happens!

I never even liked Ringo until my one granddaughters started pouting just like him every time she didn't get her own way. Needless to say that's what totally won me over, and now Ringo is one of my most-photographed dolls.

    32. MB Lilac: Found your blog and reading with great interest! :)

anjav: Such pretty girls and I love their wigs, they look so soft. Are they mohair?

    33. Happy St' Patrick's Day! Some of my kids are having a party. They have no idea what St. Patrick's Day is all about, but just that it involves the colour green, which is one of their favourite colours, so that's good enough for them...

    34. Happy St. Paddy's day Mb Lilac! That is such an adorable photo!:aheartbea

    35. I looked far and wide for in-scale St. Pat's decorations for my dolls. The best I could do were some fabric shamrocks from who knows when--I found them in my silk flower stash--and a shamrock placemat. Here are Bono and Erzulie at last Saturday's doll meet-up. Bono is dressed for St. Patrick's and Erzulie for Easter. (I made Bono's outfit from one of your patterns, Martha.)

    36. What cute dresses they are wearing. I love the one you made Vermont Chick.

    37. You did a great job on Bono's dress. The colour really suits her.

I went to Dollarama to look for St. Patrick's Day stuff. The two hats were glued to human size headbands, so I pulled them off. I also picked up some stick-on shamrocks and a package with strings of green beads there. I just used dolls that were already dressed in green, and turquoise, which is close enough. The tiny balloons are 'water bombs'. I picked up several different packages at Walmart and the Party Store, and just blew up a selection of green ones.

    38. Thank you! (The other dress is from Iplehouse.)

It was such an easy pattern to sew, I'll probably make Easter dresses, too. It's been a while since I sewed for my BIDs.

I'll have to start earlier next year collecting green things for St. Patrick's Day. Michael's had some headbands, but they had only shamrocks on them. I was really hoping for little green hats small enough for my Realpukis to wear.

    39. oh that's where you get all your great balloons, i keep meaning to ask

    40. Yes, they're 'water bombs' and blow up to be just the right size for my dolls.....

    41. I've also wondered where you find such tiny balloons. I never would have thought of water bombs.

    42. Beautiful photos everyone! I never knew you could buy balloons that are actually called water bombs, lol!

    43. Yes, they are meant to be filled with water, and burst when thrown. Packages of the balloons even come with a hose nozzle for ease of filling. I found the best colour selection can be found at the larger party stores.

    44. we're all stuck home sick again :( but as soon as we get better all my girls are demanding i go on a water bomb hunt! they are jealous of all your kids pretty balloons. it was fine when i didn't know where to get them, but now that they know how easy it is, well ;)
there is a walmart only 5 min away, i don't remember seeing any party stores though. i'll have to check online and see if there are any close by.

    45. Our Walmart has packages with 'fluorescent' colours in the party section, but when you blow them up they are very pale - like the balloons hanging off the table in the photo below. The Party store had much better selection, both in their blow-up balloon section, and multi-packs in the party 'loot' section. I'm pretty sure it used to be a Party Packagers, but I think it's now a Party City.

However, those 'fluorescent' ones from Walmart that blow up really pale would be perfect for Easter!

    46. MB Lilac: I love those little balloons, they look wonderful in your photos. Pity we don't have a Walmart here in Oz.

Here's my Harmony (Chloe) with her hobby horse.

    47. Another beautiful photo, MB Lilac! Love that hobby horse, Xanadu!

    48. Hello!
Can I request some pictures of Bonnie? I love her face and am thinking of getting her in the Special Real Skin~

    49. I've recently fell in love with Elin and I'm starting to consider making it my next purchase, it would make a perfect sibling for my EID Evan >w< I'm a bit torn tho, I can't decide if I want one as a girl or boy! Girls cam have super cute outfits, but I've seen boy Elin too that were really adorable. It's a tough decision XD

    50. I have Bonnie, but mine is normal skin...

There's nothing to prevent you from getting Elin and dressing her either way. That's what I did with my Ringo. I couldn't decide what gender I wanted (probably a boy) but I wasn't sure I didn't want him/her as a girl, so I ordered Ringo with a girl body. I figured it wouldn't bother me to pass a girl doll off as a boy, but I'd never feel right about dressing a boy body as a girl.

    51. I have Bonnie in Realskin, that I managed to snag in the recent sale of surplus heads. Although she is a he....
I had Iplehouse give him Elin Faceup B.

And in PG, old make-up B.

    54. Ahh! I really love this sculpt no matter what skin tone! They are all lovely (even looks amazing as a boy. I'm still unsure whether I want to get the girl body or boy body, but probably I'll end up getting the girl). It still amazed me just how different one sculpt can look between owners!

    55. This is my Emma (Peach Gold skin Bonnie), the make up is made by my sister ^^.
