Iplehouse 70cm E.I.D. Akando Discussion

Aug 30, 2008

    1. I think the only options you had was to have the head with the face-up or not (like, both heads with face-ups or only one of them or none at all with face-up), but not to buy him without the gentle face at all.

I would love to have another gentle face but... the problem to buy it from those who don't want it is that the tan color will vary from doll to doll. I would keep the gentle face.

    2. You get both heads with the Akando.

Here is the list of goods you recieve, which is direct from the Iplehouse site...

Anything with a dash beside if is an item that is included, while anything with an asteriks is an option to choose.

      "
      [Composition of goods]

      - Akando gentle smile face (Original circus limited head - basic no make-up)
      - Akando basic head (This is basic no make-up head.)
      - Body, color : Special real skin

      * EID Super Hero body - Mobility type
      * EID Super Hero body - General type

      - Eyeballs : 16mm glass eyeballs
      - Wig : Wig on the photo
      - Shoes : Boots on the photo
      - Basic assembly hand parts : Right sword holding hand & Left card holding hand
      (Brushing is not included.)
      - Extra hand parts : Basic hand parts (Brushing is not included.)
      - Dagger : 3ea
      - Tension line, S type hook and extra magnets
      - Assembly manual
      - Default box
      - Certificate
      - Outfit : Iplehouse team

Composition : Black coat, vest, pants, sheath belt, pierrot neck decoration, necklace, hood and wrist warmer

      * 50 ea limited in the world

      * The composition of Pierrot make-up is Pierrot make-up + Pierrot hand parts brushing.

      * Concerning the make-up at no option, this will not be offered.

      * Gentle head basic make-up is not offered. Only Pierrot make-up will be offered."

There in the make-up options list, there is the option for make-up for Perriot, Gentle, and then an option for BOTH to be made-up. People are often mistaking that 140 dollar charge for a doll head, when it is in fact, an option to have BOTH dolls made-up. Also, they say on the site, that 'basic make-up will not be an option." What this means is that when they do release the basic version of the doll, there will not be a make-up option.

this is how i understood Iplehouse.

I will (just in case) ask on the site if it comes with the head, but i'm 99 percent sure it does.

    3. It's exactly like comicbookartistboi said:
You get two heads and you can choose to have a face-up on one head, both heads or neither.

IpleHouse's English can be a bit weird sometimes. I remember when their Swan Lake dolls came out, I was confused about the heads too!

    4. I may be wrong, but my interpretation of the no basic makeup comment by Iplehouse was in regard to the gentle head. Basically informing they would not put basic makeup on the gentle head, only the Pierrot faceup on the gentle head. To avoid customers asking for basic faceup on the gentle head or too many special requests.

    5. that sounds more right :) I guess i don't pay much attention to the details regarding face-ups, because i never keep default faces on my dolls, and i never buy theirs. I do all my own.

      Thanx for clarification :)

    6. Ah, OK, it makes more sense now. I thought that the option in the drop-down was to get one head or the other, or both, but it seems like several people have had that misunderstanding.

    7. hehe Korean english can be fun to decipher :) :D I personally think it's so cute how some things are said :) Others, tho, confuse me LOL

    8. I still don't quite get it! It is very confused! So...getting 2 heads is a must. The set would only come with one official faceup?

    9. The set comes with one body, two heads, and two pairs of hands.

You have to get a faceup for at least -one- of the heads from what I can tell, since it says 'faceup option at 'no' won't be accepted'.

You can get the clown faceup on the gentle head, the normal faceup on the normal head, or both, but -not- no faceup at all, and not the clown faceup on the normal head or the normal faceup on the gentle head.

      I think.

And it is really confusing as all blazes, it really, really is.

    10. Yes, it is confusing, isn't it? Even though it looks as though you have to have at least one head with a faceup, it is actually possible to order both heads blank (as I have done). But, yes, only pierrot faceup for the gentle head, not natural faceup.

    11. I have also ordered both heads blank with no problems.

    12. yes, its true that both heads can be ordered blank...this is what i did....

    13. Oh...thank you guys for all the clarification!!!!

      Cliffy

    14. I love ur Avatar :D so very cute :D

Ok, so i got an answer back from Iplehouse, and they got a bit rude with me, over me asking if the doll comes with two heads, and told me that i should carefully read the composition of goods. I really don't like that they did that. They need to understand that their english is hard to understand at times. Does anyone else think this was just a tad rude to say to a customer who is clearly just asking a verification question?

here is what i got back.

      Hi, lovely Jorcross~~

In the limited version of Akando, gentle head and normal head is included basically and then shipped.
Please carefully read the composition of goods.
      Because the composition is great.

Thanks and have a great week.~~

    15. Um, I think that is a straightforward response and not at all rude. Do also remember that it is easily possible to misinterpret someone with excellent English who is writing a short e-note, never mind someone who has English as an additional language. I see no reason to think that they were slapping your wrist with that response. Bless them for being so patient!

    16. No, that response wasn't rude. It just got to the point. One has to tell one's customers to make sure they read the fine-print & know what they're getting before they hit the Buy button.

We have a 4th Akando coming to San Francisco... Now we're tied with London. ^^ I will spill the beans on his behalf, it's my friend mrtea2. I think he might've bought the last one, too? I can't help noticing Akando's "sold out" flag is showing again!

And if so, then perhaps that means the Basic line is on its way soon...

    17. JennyNemesis, 4 Akandos in SF? wow~ there better be a meet this winter so I can see this beautiful man! *________*

    18. Janice, what you meant is exactly correct. What I understood is the same..yes!:)

    19. Actually, it was deemed rude, even by IPLEHOUSE lol When i commented back, they sincerely apologized, and stated that even the manager thought it was a bit rude, and said something to the individual who posted it. She was very polite, and sincerely apologized. :)

    20. Well, of course they're going to say that, you're the customer. Looks like you got someone into trouble over it.

There's nothing rude in their note. It answers your question, then recommends you read the description again. What are they going to do: pull out the Korean to Even-Betterer-English dictionary? They've done the best they could with the description already, I am sure, with the English resources they already have. Maybe they thought you should check the description again just in case you had any more questions they could answer for you.

      :daisy

    21..... oh wow.... just wow...

    22. He looks great, I really like the pictures in the clothing section. His shoulders are so broad and his wide chest is awesome. :)

    23. Can we please stay on topic? This thread is about Akando as a doll, not Iplehouse's customer service. :)

If you want to comment on non-Akando specific things, please take it to Company Reviews.

Anything OT after this post will be removed.

    24. ANYWAYS, Who else is doing something cool and unique with their doll? Is anyone keeping the clown face? or is anyone changing him? :)

    25. Our boy's foot size is 10.2 cm so he'll fit in to all the Dollmore Model M shoes.
Does anyone know the foot size for Volks SD16 & 17?* Saw a pair of boots on the Volks site for SD16 wondering if they would fit ?**

*Yes, I realize if I seach long and hard the answer is here on DOA somewhere; so sue me for asking.

:horror:**am I really going to spend $76 for a pair of shoes I can't even wear?
      Need you ask? :doh

    26. Do be careful with the Model boy shoes. Their feet are "only" 9cm, so a good centimeter less than Akando's. Some shoes are roomy. Others aren't (I have the leather brogues and have to lever them onto my Model Boy's feet with the back of a spoon. They are advertised as being 10.5cm but have slightly pointed toes so would never fit a larger-sized foot). Other factors to consider are adjustability, given Akando's plus size ankles and calves.

I guess it is going to be a bit hit or miss initially until we have drawn up a list of tried and tested shoes. I volunteer to try the Soom combat boots, Dollmore walkers and Dollmore storm boots. Any other offers?

    27. what about SSDF shoes? those guys have pretty big (and BROAD) feet. they ought to fit.

    28. I was thinking of doing an egyptian theme on my extra head, with the black eyeliner and tones of gold and all that. Wouldn't that be cool? :D

    29. Yes, I have SD16/17 shoes and boots at home. Quite a few. At least ONE had better fit.
The shoes that Volks gives you with the LE sets are particularly oversized-- Yukinojo's school uniform came with a pair of black loafers that look like aircraft-carriers.

(But I may be one of the few who really digs those psychotic harlequin-diamond cowboy boots Akando comes with. :whee: If he does abandon them, I have a glam-rock Shiro who would move right into them & never take them off.)

    30. I bought those same shoes for my Sabik and they're like gunboats on him; if that's the case for your Model boy:...(

SSDF? Enlighten me (i'm suppose to be working)

      :mwahaha

I like 'em too, just the boy will need more than one pair of shoes; can't be seen in those boots and cut-offs *although on the right person that look is freaking hot*

    31. SSDF=Super Senior Delf. There do appear to be some big ol' shoes over there. Definitely worth bearing in mind.

Well, I can't see anyone here wearing the cowboy boots. Mine might just find themselves on the MP in time, I'm afraid.

    32. Well! LUTS's site says this about Mr. Super-Senior's feet...

      >> Girth of ankle : 9cm
      >> Foot : 9.5cm

Sheesh, how does such a big strapping lad stand up on such little flippers? XD
But the good news is, it also says this about Mr. Super-Senior's shoes:

      > Length: 11.5 cm
      > Inner foot length: 11 cm

Jackpot! Well, possible jackpot. This is from a pair of boots. The sandals say they're only 10cm. It probably varies, but this is a very good shot.

The other good news is that SSDF's chest measurement is 31cm... perhaps SSDF's bigger, stretchier tank-tops may also squeeze onto EID. I'm definitely gonna try raiding SSDF's shoe-closet too. There's some very cute shoes there, boots, sandals, etc.

It is true, those diamond cowboy-boots are not suitable with just anyone or any outfit. They're completely insane. The phrase "quiet good taste" does not spring to mind. The phrase "meth-dealer from North Vegas" does spring to mind. Bring 'em on. XD But... b-b-but... waaaiit.... you're not going to pair them with cutoffs, Mr. Lapin? No? Oh poo. :mwahaha Hellfire. Even on the very corner of 18th & Castro Streets would that combo turn some heads.

    33. jennynemesis>> The length apparently is actually closer to 10cm. And SSDF feet are so broad that they have trouble fitting, say, some of Dollmore's Model Doll shoes. A friend of mine bought a pair of Model-sized boots, and while they fit (barely), the front end is sort of distorted because they're a shade too narrow. :\

That's why I think SSDF shoes are worth a shot. XD

    34. Definitely! Broad is good; maybe that means even more room. At least some of the larger shoes-- the ones I see on Eluts.com are all varying between 10-11cm. Open-toed sandals, that'd give EID some room to move (if yours will be able to wear sandals with a straight face^^). I adore those little black SSDF ankleboots with the buckles on the sides, but fear they may not zip up over EID's huge 11cm ankles...

    35. jennynemesis>> I'm not in the Akando-owning camp (lack of funds, oh woe), but I'm glad there are gonna be more Big Guys around. Makes for a larger variety of stuff to choose for them, yes? ;D

If the old pair of Heavy Metal boots I got with my El years back is any indication of sizing leeway, I don't think you'll have to worry about the boots not zipping up. I mean, those boots fit my SDF with room to spare, and they were made of teeny Delf feet (I don't have to unzip them at all, man. x_x). So if the SSDF boots have the same sort of yield to their sizing, perhaps they'll still fit Akando well. 8D

    36.
    37. mire lapin>> Man, I really like those Volks boots! *o* They're simple, rugged, unpretentious. Do like!!

    38. Ooh yeah, Mire Lapin. I could really see an Akando in those Volks boots and a nice pair of fatigues. They do look quite like the Dollmore Walkers. I have those on order so I can let you know if they fit Akando's fat feet or whether my Saint will end up with more shoes (he is the Imelda Marcos of the dolly world, I swear).

And what the heck are goat ropers? At this rate I am going to resort to cockney rhyming slang and then not even the other Brits would understand me ;)

    39. Well. I have to say that I adore the Gentle head because of the sweet smile. I also love the basic head.
Ok. Cut to the chase. I think this doll is gorgeous. Body, heads, faces, clothing. All of the above. However. He looks young to me. If he were human, I would put his age at about 22. I want him as a companion for my Soom Dia Rose Queen and "Bijou" is 26, minimum. I need him to look more mature. If they ever do this guy as ... say, 35 .... oh, I will be in such trouble. He would be über gorgeous. Not that he's not gorgeous now.... just too young for my gal. She wants a "match", not a 'boy toy'.
I keep telling her, "Nothing wrong with 'boy toys'."
Would anyone else like to see a more mature face with that awesome bod?

    40. Flamingomoon, just give Akando some thicker eyebrows & slightly paler lips, and he will age 5 years. At least! Check around the pages somewhere near the beginning of this thread-- someone submitted a great photoshopped mockup of just such an alternate faceup, and it's excellent. The Gentle head could look even older, since its eyes aren't so big & round. Heck, if you want an old man, paint some crow's feet by his eyes & creases on either side of his nose.

I myself like the fresh-faced-butch look he's got going on. <3 He could be 20 or 30, depending on how you do out his hair & clothes. Even if you didn't change his faceup, elements like short hair & a suit would make him look much older. (Mine will probably stay youthful-looking because I like long hair and rock-star clothing.)

Yes! THOSE are the ones I've been craving! ;; They're still sold out, aren't they? I missed them for Osaka-5 online dolpa, I missed them for the Osaka-5 after-event, and I will not rest until I have them. Yukinojo's default workboots are very, very similar, but these are more classic combat-boot style, and I! Want! Them!! *wheeze* Anyway. I've got the zippered leather ones, and the o-ring harness ones, and the silver H.Naoto stompers. In fact I have plenty of Volks boots really-- another Imelda Marcos ova here :|-- but no matter how many you have, it's always all about the Shoes That Got Away. You know how it goes. XD

...flat-heeled, pointed-toe, snakeskin goat ropers.... with cutoffs?... Jesus wept.... You know I can never UN-see that image, right? Ow. @Maumau, sorry, again with the slang. :mwahaha: We shouldn't even talk about things like Cuban-heeled roach-zappers, then.

(PS. Goat-ropers: Cowboy boots worn outside the pants, the way real cowboys absolutely do not. Roach-zappers: Extreme pointy toes suitable for killing cockroaches in the corner of a room. Oh those daffy Amurricans!)

    41. Personally I would say boy toys have MUCH to recommend them:wiggle

Having said that, my character, Darius, is supposed to be quite an experienced commander, probably in his early to mid thirties. I was thinking thick eyebrows and a bit of stubble or maybe even a beard...not entirely sure how to excute a beard.

    42. kiradyn_rhiode, madammaumau, JennyNemesis: I forgot to upload the boots into a shoppoing cart so I didn't know they were sold out; now I'm
      just depressed:...(
Yes, they would have looked great with fatigues, there's something about the shape of them, more relaxed, old and worn vs the cripsness of the Dollmore walkers.

Flamingomoon; "Nothing wrong with 'boy toys'."
Even changing to a smaller eye size can age the doll too.

      madammaumau: I love Cockney rhyme!;)
Goat ropers (slightly shorter than normal cowboy boots) and yes they are used for roping: http://www.bootbarn.com/itemview/view/view/view/view/6692
Cuban heeled roach killers (these are on the tame side): http://www.bikerboots.co.uk/boots/FW245.php
      "Winkle Picker"?!!!

    43. Hah! Thanks for the translation. Yes, when you described them Jenny I thought "winkle pickers". Thanks for the confirmation Mire Lapin.

I agree with all that blab about aging the sculpt. The primary problem is that Ip have a habit of putting HUGE eyes in their dolls. Just changing over to 12-14mm is going to make a world of difference. Also, the gentle head has a less curvy mouth and will age more easily. My character is in his thirties and I have no doubt that the gentle head can be made to look that old. But, yes, there is nothing wrong with a toy boy.

Yes, Mire Lapin, the Volks boots do have a more lived in feel than the walkers. They are, indeed, perfect. However, I'm not sure I can splash out that much on boots that might not fit. I will wait and see what our list of "Fits the Super Hero body" looks like.

And why don't we conduct an entire thread in Polari? That would confuse everyone ;) Bona!

    44. Oh!I want them to release the 70cm boys too!

    45. Iples do have that tendency to make their men winsomely big-eyed (16mms standard), even though the rest of their features are very strong. The Gentle head is smiling more, but his mouth does seem less curvy. It's so hard to tell without makeup, OR with only the Pierrot makeup on. I can't wait to see somebody's owner-pics of a regular faceup on the Gentle Smile head. I am even curious to see how many Akandos will show up later with beards.

We will definitely need to start a Sticky or Database thread, for Things That Fit EID Superhero when we get this all figured out. We have many great minds working on this issue! The knowledge must be codified.

Yes, maumau, do not spend your money on Volks boots until we know if there's hope. Unless Saint or Lawrence already want them, of course. Those things may be worth the price, but they'e just painfully spendy.

Winklepickers! XD That shall be the name of my next band! What a great word. Confess I had to Wikipedia what a winkle was, though. How English. ^^ In New York there are only cockroaches instead of winkles, so where I come from they got called roach-zappers. *hee*

(PS. And I still have a pair of those SAME EXACT black Nick-Cave-cuban-heeled-roach-zapper boots in my closet. :aheartbea Tame indeed.)
(PS2. Not a DAMN thing wrong with boytoys.)

    46. Ok, everyone. Bijou has agreed to consider having a "boy toy'.
We bow to popular opinion! ;-)

    47. [IMG]
I'm sure you really had to twist her arm to agree to that, too! ^^

    48. Check this out:
      http://happyhouse4u.com/shopex/index.php?gOo=article_details.dwt&articleid=3
Compare the measurements of these guys to EID: Chest and waist are compatible. I have a feeling the shoulder width might be smaller than the EID though. Plus the 1/2 scale's neck is thinner than EID's, and the sleeves will probably be too long for EID also... but I suppose it's something to keep an eye on!

    49. Is Iplehouse going to be making more EIDs or releasing the Super Hero EID body again? Both type Super Hero EID bodies have been "sold out" on the site for a while... :(

    50. They weren't even not Sold-Out ;)
They just put them there for : So people can see the difference between Mobility/General, and for when they launch basic ;)

    51. Anyone else seen the EID shoes that have gone up? Hmm. I guess this guy likes golf, bowling and ballroom dancing. Me no likey.

    52. Ok, i found out today that an unforseen bill i had coming out of my account caused my first payment to bounce on Iplehouse. :( I feel badly, and do not want to leave them with no way to sell the doll i had ordered. I wanted to try to find a replacement buyer but apparently, i'm not allowed to do that on DOA.

    53. Nope, they don't let you use the forum to sell dolls you don't have yet.

Oh dear! ;; Indeed. Uhh. Well. Those diamond cowboy-boots are starting to look better & better all the time, eh? ;)
The black patent low shoes are nice for basic dress-wear, except I can't see my lad in a suit at all. The sneakers look way too much like doll-shoes; I can't put my finger on why, but they just don't seem to jive with the hyperreal man who's going to live in them.

But these pix DO give us a good hint about how wide his feet really are. :sweat Craaap! Wiiiiide!

    54. Yeah, I think the brown, black, and white ones all have the same problem...there's something wrong w/the shape in the arch/instep area...also, that strip of eyelet leather detailing across the toe just looks wrong, especially on the white shoes. I think the brown ones could work, though...w/some jeans or casual slacks/khaki pants and a collared shirt.

      Hmmm..... *gets ideas...*

    55. The shoes look kind of stubby to me. Too many laces for such a short toe area. I like the boots in the fullset though. They're only loud where you could cover them with pants... if you wanted to.

    56. The word all of you are dancing around is Geriatric those shoes
look like something my grandfather(rest his soul) wore.

      Jeez, aren't we spoiled!

    57. That's it! My god, that's it. Those sneakers are what my grandfather wears right now, thousands of miles away in New Jersey, while he cruises his chair around that convalescent-home & schmoozes all the nurses. I KNEW I'd seen those shoes before.

Oh we are awful! I'm willing to wait for their future shoes, but in meantime I am rawwwther glad that I do like the silly cowboy boots.

    58. the clothes are all on sale now; just grabbed myself some jeans, a shirt and some undies.

    59. Thanks for the heads up!

      Got some here too. :)
      .

    60. What skin tone is this?

It just looks really different from all the other ones.

And is this his slightly suntanned tone that was released in the limited?

      Or if it's normal skin, maybe they're going to release the basics sometime soon? I hope?? XDDD;;;
