Iplehouse 70cm E.I.D. Akando Discussion

Aug 30, 2008

    1. I'm curious too. This is unprecedented for IpleHouse.
They took a big gamble with a total of 200 limited Tanias & Tatianas, compared to their previous limited. They're still selling well compared for instance with Ryushin or Barron full sets which had editions of 20 and are still available after a much longer time period.
The Noctarcana circus concept is definitely appealing to their customers. Even so, they must have been shocked to see Akando selling out so quickly. I'm interested to see how many of the next Noctarcana doll will be for sale. It must be a fine balancing act to get enough revenue while still making a limited doll in small enough numbers to be collectable.

One thing to keep in mind is a lot of IpleHouse orders get cancelled. The numbers of limiteds JIDs went very low and then went up again significantly. I don't know why this is, buyers remorse or something else?

    2. Well, just knowing what the price would be (thankyou to you who posted the link since I had forgot I had asked the question on the iplehouse board and therefore had not checked) I can accept the waiting. 650 dollars is an okay price for a doll that size I think. And this gives us a chance to save up some bucks for this hunk of a doll when he is finally released. I wouldn't be able to afford any more dolls this year anyway, since Christmas is coming closer.

    3. Oh dear. :sweat NOT a good thing to get used to.... if you ever want to shop anywhere else without your brain exploding, that is...

Iplehouse is not cheap, for either dolls or clothes, that's for sure. Their quality's always been so excellent for me, though, I never thought to sweat over their prices. The dolls I've bought from them have been impeccable. And almost always the clothes, too. Once I admired the white tanktop that their Soo Ri was wearing, even though it wasn't sold on their site; they sent me one. The one time I spent $40 on a pair of jeans that came with a broken snap, they replaced it & paid for the shipping. I just can't bring myself to complain when they treat me like that.

However: $650 for a Basic doll of that size & proportion, wow! I think that's a bargain.

*passes paper bag to Nancy* OK! Now, breathe! ^^

Don't worry, EID Girl hasn't been released yet either. I doubt she's even finished at this point! They've put up place-holder spots for her in the store pages already, but no news about her ETA yet. I'm sure that when she IS out, you'll definitely hear about it... she's sure to be big news.

    4. Wow! Just one day back on sale and only 3 are left now. O__o He´s going faster than in his original release. It looks like after some time to think it better, people really regretted missing on him.

    5. Just a thought, Iplehouse posted:-
We pleasantly inform you all customers who are visiting Iplehouse.

After we released Akando circus version, with your hot supports, our sales was completed quickly.
But there were some customers who did not purchase are still feeling sorry and they are requesting continuously.
For Akando fullset, we made with our heart & soul, so we finally decided to offer to more customers.

The sales for additional 20ea will start on Oct. 8, 10:00 AM (in Korean time).
      ***
Iplehouse never said they were actually ADDING 20 to the edition size. They just say that there will be an additional 20 for sale.

It could be quite possible that they have taken the Akandos allocated to their Korean and Japanese websites and put them onto the English one.
On none of the webpages has the edition size been increased to 70.

Again, just putting it out there for people to think about.

    6. 0.o but, all IH sites have 2 Akando's left...

Correct me if i'm wrong (i'm a bit of a noob to BJDs), but... there isn't 50 (now 70) for each site (english, korean, japanese), but 50 no matter what site it's ordered from... (i hope that makes sense). Am i right? :sweat

    7. Well, if you have a look at the Korean site, there is no place to actually put him in the basket, so you can't order him from there.

Yes, it is a world wide edition size, but they may have allocated say 16 to each country's website. This is just speculation, but I thought this was quite plausable, as they never actually said that they were changing the edition size.

It's happened before, where a company has different allocations for each website. I remember previous eLuts releases where the Korean and English sites sold out before the Japanese site.

    8. I'm forced to revoke everything i've said, as i went and purchased the fullset, so that i could have him in tan :( I'm a horrible person and should die LOL

    9. Just so you know, Iplehouse has a Japanese site ;)
I was also able to add him to my cart, though they only have one left :)

    10. Just checked on the Japanese site, he's being listed as sold out, but there are still 2 on the English site ...

The Korean site didn't even give you the option to put him in the basket .... but didn't list him as sold out.

    11. so as much as i KNOW i'm eating my words right now, i'm laughing at my fit thrown over the re-release of the 20 extra dolls, cuz i just went and grabbed one. Mainly because Iplehouse answered my last Message to let me know that the tan will ONLY be on the original fullset doll, and all others will be in Normal Skin. ::Sigh:: So, as much as i detest anythign clown related, i bought him. ::sigh:: I guess it looks like i'm going to have an extra outfit to sell. LOL And the gentle head too, cuz i wanted the more open eyed head. But i guess in the end, it worked out. Now i'm just an idiot for being all pissy and upset. LMAO

I guess that means there is only one now? Cuz i just made my payment....

    12. Oh ack, no WS bodies in the future? *wince*

    13. LOL I'm not sure bout no WS bodies, but they just said He will not be in tan in the basic version, but instead, will be NS. I'm not sure if that means there will be ONLY Normal Skin or not.

    14. Thanks! :) *crosses fingers* I hope they do a WS. I'm betting it'd look stunning with a Minimee head I have on order that... requires some delicious muscles!

    15. Ooooo sounds Smexy! I just know, however, that i'm going to open this thing, and won't be able to look at the outfit...i absolutely ABHOR clowns of any kind....so the outfit is DEFINATELY getting shoved into a flat bag for storage....LOL

    16. I wonder if it could be overdyed in black? That might be risky in terms of contact with the resin unless rinsed and handled really well, but it might look less clown-like if it was just tone-on-tone color with the different textures. I've actually considered that option myself, since I like the structure of it all, just have never been a big fan of purple, specifically. I'll dig through my old textbooks when I find 'em and see what it says once I figure out what the fibers are, and if it seems feasible.

    17. surreality: I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that Iplehouse will offer Akando in WS and NS. :) OT, but I'm not sure if WS IH will match Minimee WS well tho since my WS minimee body is super white, making my WS Soo Ri look dirty. :sweat

    18. I've thought of that option, but, i'd much rather sell the outfit it'self, as even the cut and style of it does not match my Titaru. (He's named after an Egyptian Pharaoh.) so i am thinking i will just sell the outfit and boots, as i am with the gentle head.

    19. This guy is an absolute hunk! That body....everything....*groan*....

Where did they say tan french resin?
      .

    20. Angelguardian. someone asked about it on the Q&A board and the response was that it is half urethane and half French resin. This will only be for the limiteds, as will the tan colour. It looks soooooo good!

    21. My only question while I sit here drumming my fingers counting the days the hours and minutes reading the latest controversy on the art of limiteds; is who makes the best wife-beater on this board?
Does anyone else hear him screaming "STELLA”?

    22. Yeah, ur right. The basic dolls will only come in Normal Skin, and possibly white...no confirmation on White yet. Iplehouse DID mention to me, that they have to cast about 20 Tan dolls, to even get ONE full Akando correct. That's how hard it is to mix the resins together, and being tan

    23. YOU, my dear, Read my mind LMAO i was just thinking, "i'm going to have to get him some cool pants, and a white wife-beater...LMAO

They actually put up a notice though, about how big his thighs are? That when you try to seat him, in tight pants, it can cause the waistline to bust out LMAO

    24. Hey if the "Bonobos" pants company can do it for real men, there's got to be a way to tailor pants for our guy too

    25. This BODY is so beautiful! :aheartbea It's taken a long while for another male BJD to trip my trigger and Oh how I lub the TALL boys! (My Talullah & Francesca still dream about meeting SDink's Heat!)

I'll just be happy with a NS basic version of this scrumptious hunk o' resin! When, oh when might that happen? The Circus series is pretty cool, but don't need for my boy to be from that series ...

    26. Oh, Stanley! You big brute! <3

Wifebeaters are easily made from real wifebeaters. ^^ Y'know, those Hanes 3-packs? They're extra-crepe-y thin fabric, works great for dolls. I can't sew, but even I can make raw-edged tanktops (that look that says he he cut the sleeves & neckline out of his own t-shirts himself). Of course if you want a NICE tanktop with finished edges, gotta find someone who knows from seams. So, in preparation, I am already cultivating my favorite local seamstresses, with things like chocolates and pink wine. I'm not too proud to wheedle. ;) (You can help wheedle! We know at least 2 area sewing-wizards who'd be willing. We'll tawk, we'll tawk.)

Yes, white is usually offered basic (WS and NS). Just no tans. Tans take so much trial & error, I was surprised they made as many as 50. Even though this new "Realskin" is so much paler than their usual tan.

But, out of the last 3 years of Tan releases I've bought from, Iples have never sent me a doll with streaking or marbling in his resin. When they set out to mix & cast those tan dolls, they keep at it till they get it right! And that is why I have learned to wait, and wait, and wait as long as it takes. I am itching to get my tawny-skinned muscleman, but I want the them to do him out with their usual quality care.

    27. Looks like he has sold out again !
I really wish I had the money for him :(
Ah well, next best thing, seeing everyone elses Akando's! :)

    28. I love tanned skin doll too....Does this Akando considered to be a "tanned skin" one? To me, it is not WS but just normal skin!!

    29. honestly, this is a tan, not to mention, it's a mixture of French and urethane resin. Since French resin has a bit of transluscence to it, it gives him a bit of a glow, which i love. :) This is definately Tan. I guarantee you, if you put him next to a normal skin iple doll, u'll see a HUGE difference. The French resin is DEFINATELY going to look much different than the traditional urethane resin.

    30. wow...I never know anything about resin....now that I know French one looks rediance....Urethane resin is the ordianary one!

I wish that I could afford an ELD...maybe a standard version soon!

Tanned dolls are still my favorite!:aheartbea

    31. Jeez! It's a lesson in international slang, this board! I have never heard the term "wife beater" used in this context. I had to wiki it to find out what the hell you were talking about. What an awful association.

But yes, a tank top/vest, preferably latex, would be ideal for those pecs. Mmmm...

    32. Hey, a lot of us want this hunk for Minimees right? Has anyone thought about how to mod either the neck or the Minimee heads yet??? Cause that neck is too big for sure!

I'm thinking of ways to mod the head, because if Iplehouse release an EID who looks like Barron - I'll be sunk. :drool

    33. Yeah, it is a bit of a horrid association, but it became the slang name none-the-less. I've even heard it used in fashion shows. LOL

and there is no denying that this mold would look hot in that style shirt.

Titaru (the character i'm creating my Akando into) is egyptian, and will have a few historical type outfits....

here is one of my ideas (photoshopped) to show what i think i'm going to try to make his face look like..(but much cleaner, i'm not the best at photoshopping a face! LOL)

    34. When Iplehouse originally posted those greyed out pictures of Akando I thought the EID body might really work for my main boy...who is a minimee but the size of that neck O_O.....

16cm?? I put my mnm on my super gem body the other day and even that gave a slight Mike Tyson vibe. The super gem neck is only 11cm.

We can only hope that IPH bring out another body shape in the 70cm range somewhere between the boyishness of the average bodies on the market and the manliness of the Akando body....with a thinner neck.

    35. Comicboi, your Egyptian prince will be a knockout! <3 <3

Actually, they call this color "Real skin". (Gawd! These names! Well, they try.)

This is a new skin color-- it's a very light tan.
Their usual "tan" resin is much darker.
Their "normalskin" resin is much lighter than this. It's also much pinker.

D'oh! :mwahaha:...!! Sorry about that. We should have translated. *pffft* Thank goodness for Wikipedia, though. I could've told you it meant 'thin white tanktop style undershirt', but I'm not sure where I would've started explaining "why wifebeater?!" It is a, umm, a very piquant bit of slang.

(I grew up in an Italian-American neighborhood, where they were called something even worse. *snerklesnork* It is so awful to admit when stereotypes sometimes come from truth, but if anyone else has ever had a sloppy Uncle Salvatore who eats in his white undershirt, because he splatters marinara all over himself and the Barcalounger while he shouts at the boxing match on TV... then you know the term I am talking about.)

I will switch to the less socially-bizarre term "tanktop". We all agree, Akando oughtta come standard with one! Perhaps Iples will come out with one of those right away when they start selling his clothes. I think a plain white one OR a black latex one would just be drop-dead on him.

If this body is called "EID Super Hero Type", then maybe that means that some day there will also be an EID More-Slender Type, of some sort.

I wouldn't be surprised... The original body was a scrawny 60cm with an SD10-sized chest. Then the 63cm long-legged body, same skinny pec-less torso. Then people wanted more manliness, so they broadened the top & legs, and pumped up all the muscles, into the current Model body. Then people said "that's nice but still too skinny", so they beefed up the 1-piece torso & thickened the limbs to get the current Muscle body. And now this. *whew* So! This leads me to conclude that Iplehouse is sympathetic to the quest for as many lovely male shapes as possible.

    36. Barcalounger????? That's even more obtuse than "wifebeater" ;)
In some parts of the UK "wifebeater" refers to a popular brand of lager so...yeah...confusing!!

Back to the muscle bod worship...I wouldn't want an "EID Indie Twink Type" as I have enough of those around me in real life so Akando is a refreshing change!!!

Characterwise, my ideal body though would be a 70cm David Beckham/olympic swimmer style body, broad shouldered, slim waisted, quite muscular but lean with long proportions, and some definition. Maybe like Limhwa Mano's slightly buffer big brother.

      *bats eyelashes hopefully at Iplehouse*

    37. Exactly-- when we thought of "muscled like Akando but slimmer", I think we were ALL thinking of the glorious two words "David Beckham".

Oh jeez... funnier still... [IMG]*cackle* Actually no, the Barcalounger is the brand of chair! (Or do you have those in UK too?)
I didn't wish to repeat the other term for 'undershirt' aloud here, because it's ethnically-based (contains a somewhat pejorative term for Italian-American). I say it around my own family, but I simply can't bring myself to say it in polite company! Maybe Wikipedia can help again.

... Wifebeater beer? XD God bless the English language!!

    38. Oh good God! Providing the female EID doesn't look like Victoria.

And, yes, JennyN, we have chairs in the UK ;)

    39. I think wifebeater is such a horrid term- couldn't believe it when I first heard it. I ust can't wait to see what other clothing they come up with for our hunky akando's.:aheartbea

CBAB- I thought you hated IH for re-releasing an extra 20 because the original 50 would be peed off- and now you yourself are one of those buying the extras? :|

    40. I hope he gets lots of nice cool clothes. :3 And some nice pants.:aheartbea And some nice shoes. You can never have too many nice pairs of shoes:aheartbea Whatever they do have I'm sure it will be nice, since Iplehouse has some of the nicest clothes for dolls.

    41. Already been there, and acknowledged the mistake,(a few times, i might add), thanks to a few people on here setting my vision straight... I might also add, i never said i "HATED' iplehouse for doing it, in fact, i think I decreed that i was more upset that they were saying they were going to release the limited in an alotment of 50, and next would be the Basic sets...and then instead released an additional 20. (just thought i'd clarify), and the reason i'm buyin one NOW, is because the day after this rant started, Iplehouse got back to me and mentioned that NONE of the other basic dolls would be tan, which is what i needed. I also am still planning on getting rid of the gentle head, and the outfit, as i have no need of either.

and now, once AGAIN moving back to our discussion of the smexy, hunky Akando....

I so very much am thinking about making a cool Egyptian God costume for him :)

    42. *pffft* ^^ Barcaloungers. Awful-looking things.

Gawww, no Posh Spice dolls please! That woman's lizardlike countenance, shrivelled bones, and leathery tan give me the creeping-jesus horrors.

Aw, this thread could've saved you the rant, the blood-pressure, and the heartbreak... ^^ Pages & pages & pages back, the Q&A had been solved already about the new "Realskin" resin-color being limited. Honestly, it was one of the first things we asked Iplehouse when he was first announced. A lot of people had that same concern; I don't know why they don't put this information right there on Akando's sales-page. Would save a lot of agonizing. (Would also save themselves from having to answer the same Q&A so many times.)

    43. That's how I felt the fist time I head "slaphead, gob or bubble and squeak". I realize it's awful, but by calling it a "wife beater" (no way am I calling it the other name JN) it separates it from any other type A-shirt because the name denotes the exact cut and fabric

      Hummm....preferably latex

      Ok, now that's awful!:o

I thought MGA Entertainment already did that with the "Bratz Doll"?

A person after my own heart.

Does any one know if the French resin and Tan has been done before?

    44. Y'see, now you have me really curious about what name for an article of clothing could possibly be worse than "wife beater". Or is it just that using pejorative terms for certain nationals is worse than referencing domestic violence?

And I had to laugh at the "slaphead, gob, bubble and squeak" list. It sounds like the line up of an up-and-coming alt rock band!

    45. Well spotted you! Nothing that grabs me from that little lot though. I don't suppose Iplehouse will be making leather kilts and chest harnesses for the Akandos, will they? *sigh*

    46. nah me neither- what;s with all the 70's hairdo's and plaid shirts??? hehehe

    47. He looks like a nice, honest boy next door. Or a member of the Brady Bunch. Yeah. That's who he reminds me of now that I look at it again. Or is it David Cassidy?

    48. Sweet merciful everything!! That plaid is TRAGIC!

David Cassidy. *bingo* :mwahaha Oh man, now I want to poke my own eyes out. I grew up in the 70s, and I'd like to leave them dead where they are now, thankyavurrymuch. I'd also rather not be reminded that I once had a Shaun Cassidy pinup notebook (same hair + shirt combo, and by god it used to melt our pre-teen panties).

Anyway, I am very happy to see the EID Clothes are starting right off with plain straight-legged blue & black jeans. Yes! Very much the Beefcake-Next-Door. Now, the tight white tank-top or t-shirt should follow soon... and plain black boots....

It's so strange on the eyes, though-- he looks so thick & so short-legged, compared to the way a BJD boy usually looks in jeans! He'll take some mental adjustment.

Yeah yeah! Either a rock band, or... a the name of a law firm. *pfft* Slaphead, Gob, Bubble and Squeak, LLC.

(Slang gets even weirder: Americans crack up whenever Brits ask if they can smoke a 'fag', and Britishpeople crack up when Yank tourists store their passports in a 'fanny-pack'. ^^ Maumau, you can PM me if Wikipedia/Google are no help in finding the offensive undershirt-slang. I just can't say it here!)

Yes, they did the mixture for the last Tan Soo Ri v2 release (last December), although it was their usual dark-tan & not this pale real-skin color.

Have you met my Samir in person? He's from that run. I will show you someday. You can see the difference in his resin vs. the older tans, which don't have as much French mixed in.

    49. Dunno how I'd missed this cry of anguish... Because I thought the same thing "OMG! It's Yul's body!!"

But... do you think it'll work? a minimee head on a big ol' 70 cm body?

Regardless it is absolutely the perfect size, shape, AGE, etc...
      It is... to drool! :)

    50. Dear lord he is SUCH A HUNK! /grabby hands

    51. When I saw the jeans, I thought, "they look like real men's legs" cuz they're stout. I think I've been looking at too many menswear jeans ads too LOL

Speaking of clothes, I ordered some jeans from Iplehouse for YID and they are great; fitting on Luts, Latidoll, AoD, Minimee (strangely I havent tried it on my Soo Ri yet). They're a little on the big size for me (seems like the jeans were made for sd13 tho) but still very good. I agree and am glad that EID clothes are starting off with jeans. the plaids have nice colors and I think will work if you mix and matched with blazers, some undershirt and accessories like hats/beanies, scarves or ties to spice up the look. I love causal wear :3

and I think I'll be drooling over the new pictures of Akando in the outfit sections while I wait for the basic to come out :drool

    52. I take it ya'll missed this little gem too.
Check out the sample picture at the top
      http://www.iplehouse.net/shop/step1.php?number=1179
Think I'll be making more wigs again.

    53. :sweat I really like the plaid shirts. >>; Of course them releasing those shirts may be what makes me buy his basic version. It's like the final straw of fate. Akando is built a lot like my boyfriend and his face is like a stylized version of my bf's face, especially the smiling face. Plus my bf always wears the same plaid over-shirt that looks a lot like that orange one. *sigh* I'm compelled to have a wee bf.

    54. Ah that's quite interesting, I thought that might be the case. Good to know it's confirmed.

Absolutely! Proper man legs! Proper bum too hehehe!

I too am glad to see the jeans, but they shirts are soooooo not for me- or rather for my Akando. I don't think he'll ever wear a shirt with a body like that mwahahaha. I loved the peek of the boxer shorts in one of the pics too. Yum. Reminds me of a certain Levi's advert ;) Maybe i should call him Levi instead of Peloquin ooooh

Also, love the fact American's think our term of "fag" is something else. And a fanny-pack just makes me shudder. Also, the fact you said "panties" was weird to me too as we call them knickers here in UK. Panties to me sounds very erotic because when I was a teen I used to read all my mums erotica novels written by some very naughty American ladies and they would always say "panties". Heheheh

    55. it's so bizarre to me....I decided to sell the Gentle head, and the entire outfit without the necklace or knives....being that i was curious what the head would go for, i'm shocked....the current high offer is 250, and it's only the first two days of me letting everyone know i'm selling the head.....Maybe i'm just niave in the ways of limiteds, and such...but i had no idea people would be wanting to spend that much on the gentle head....

    56. Ah, but the Minimee head is designed for a 10.5 cm neck and the EID has his neck listed as 16 cm. I'd be interested to see/hear the creative use of Dremel, belt sander, and language it will take to marry the two together. Seriously. I want pictures. And descriptions. :mwahaha

    57. I'm ineffably curious as to why you're buying the gentle head at all if you don't want it. It appears that it was possible to buy Akando with only the Basic head + faceup...why buy something that you don't want when you have the option to not buy it at all?

    58. I know I went for this edition because of the resin, which won't be available in the basic edition. The head was just a bonus for me, as was the outfit.
