He's off topic, I know...thus why I post here. His images show him with an open mouth, yet when I received him this is not the case. The one I have seen here on the forum posted for sale (before the rule change) has his mouth open. Impldoll is telling me they do not do this, that if I want his mouth to open I have to do it myself. -EVERY- Photo I have seen of Colby his mouth is two parts. I understand that I ordered him in "Special Green" Resin, but even in those photos his mouth is two parts. Does anyone know/own a Colby who can tell me the condition he arrived in? I refuse to mod a doll if it is the company's responsibility to deliver him to me. I'm more than just upset that his photos show him with an OPEN MOUTH and yet Impl tells me first that they used putty for his mouth...but then that I have to do the mod myself. I suppose, what I'm looking for before I demand a refund and offer to ship the resin back is if I'm being completely insane. Has anyone received a colby with an open mouth, or have they all come closed and some people just seem to flawlessly mod him open like every other picture I have seen of him.
Huh, I am a little surprised to hear that! I am waiting for one right now through their Summer Event and I assumed his mouth could be open/closed Does yours look like this, with the little gap, or is it completely fused shut? I just looked further on Flickr and this little guy apparently has it completely shut (when you zoom really close). It seems like Impl changed the sculpt at some point?
sadly, mine looks like the later (The Blue One), with his mouth -completely- sealed shut. I also received him in a VERY light green nothing like the green shown for the "Special Green" skin. He's still adorable, don't get me wrong and Impl has responded to my e-mail with ways to fix it, but they stand by the fact that his mouth -does not- come open even though the website shows it as such. EDIT: Managed to snag a photo from my phone for upload.
I am a little bummed now, because my concept idea for him partly relied on the goofy mouth without teeth and such. I had planned to give him a dorky little tongue in addition to painting him up like one of those Crystal Lizards from Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. I honestly believe they changed the sculpt later. The first Colby probably came with the mouth detached, but it is probably easier to cast it shut and nobody can complain that there is no working mechanism (when they used putty, in addition to whatever it is used to keep the lower part somewhat attached to the head). Colby now has the mouth like Jayden, who was closed from the start. Bummer about the color too. I cannot say how mine is, since as said I yet have to receive mine, but I also asked for one of the Pantone colors. So mine won't be any of the existing resin colors anyway.
My husband might try to mod his mouth open, it looks possible but I'm not certain how I feel about such a modification on the little guy. Optimistically they have apologized for the resin color (there is marbling on his stomach and an some obvious flaws with the mold on his stomach/butt piece) and the fact he has glue on his head, his mouth doesn't open, etc. They're offering to send out a new Colby because of this and the wait time (That is another story) but I really am disheartened that his mouth does not open at all. Thats what confused me at first though, the mentioned blue putty holding the mouth together but staring at my little man I was just like "What would putty hold closed?". All I'd be doing is giving the little man a beard if I used putty on his chin. I do believe that most likely this head is a new sculpt, the nose looks a tad longer than the pictures of Colby online as well, but I just wish they'd admit if it they made a change. I understand things are done for 'convenience' and to make it easier to ship a product but when -every- photo I see of him but one (the same blue Colby you found) shows his mouth open and the website says nothing about the mouth being closed I feel...cheated? Ripped off? I'm not sure exactly what the word to use is. I still adore him, but he's not what I expected him to be, part of the draw toward him was the fact his mouth could open. I had plans for that adorable open mouth.
His color actually looks close-ish to the one I had asked for (mine is a tad more blue-ish, but also a mostly mute green). Definitely not even close to the Special Green on their website. I would probably take them up on the offer with the new Colby. At least you would then have one that can be modded without much fear. It's still very deceiving of them though to keep up the old pictures while the head mold definitely is not the same anymore. Doesn't matter if the old one was "just" modded or really did exist like that at some point, he has an open mouth on the pics and that's what people expect. Would tell them again they definitely need to update those pictures to reflect the current state :/
seems false advertising to me. If the head doesn't match the images using the sell the head, then it's false advertising. the implication is that the doll has an open mouth, and that it's a particular colour. This is neither of those things. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.
False Advertising! I completely have to agree with everyone on that. They will definitely be getting an eyeful of my recommendations that they should change the image if that is not the product they are selling. The fact that google turns up only one of these products with a sealed mouth is also a pain. Its fine if you tell me the mold broke, you had to make do with what you had and you had so many complaints you stopped shipping them with open mouths, fine...but to tell me that -every- doll with an open mouth was modded just seems far too far fetched. At least two different flickr accounts seem to have modded their Colby to look exactly like the photos presented on their website. Seems...just honestly impossible. I expect a little bit of color difference between what I receive and what is on the screen. Between computer settings, the fact that colored resin is never exactly accurate and just human error I expect a bit of difference but he is more than just a few shades lighter. They admitted they shipped him out horribly pale, that is the reason they are sending a second Colby. I just wish they'd at least own up to sending out Colby's with an open mouth...or someone would tell me that their Colby never had an open mouth. I feel like, if I manage to receive the second Colby in a timely manner (Considering I waited longer for this questionable little bloke) I could call it 'resolved' but I'm not sure I would be exactly happy about it. So much of my purchase was the fact that Colby had an opening mouth and Jayden did not. Granted Jayden's scars were a little off putting as well but that mouth was the deal maker for me. If I do decide to go on a mouth opening adventure I'll make sure to either have my husband post it (as he's on the forum as well) or post it myself.
UPDATE: After a lengthy conversation and sending pictures comparing the stock Colby with the one received, Impl made this one with the wrong mold. They used a mold that someone had previously requested a closed mouth Colby. They were already going to send a new one due to the extremely light green resin but they will be sure to make sure its the right sculpt. I guess when i was talking about the mouth opening, they were confused and though maybe I was talking about the Jayden sculpt which does no come with a magnetized mouth. Will update more when the new one come in.
Oooooh this makes me hope that mine will come with an open mouth now too Crossing my fingers for you (and me)!
If I were you I'd send them an e-mail and verify. I was reading reviews here and someone use received a Special Skin Blue Colby with the mouth shut, but hadn't ordered it. I'd rather clarify and make sure than end up upset. Granted, if you waited and complained afterwards they might be willing to ship out the head with the open mouth parts. To be honest I just want this all to be over. We ordered back in May (Right before the event) and its now July and its basically like the order started all over again. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled they are fixing things but I have just had the most rotten luck with buying brand new dolls. Its to the point I'm terrified of actually ordering the dolls I want because nothing seems to work out. I haven't received the new Colby (They probably just started it) yet so I don't know if this one will show up with an open mouth, but they said they used the wrong mold so I can only assume it will. On top of this I also ordered his outfit...which I haven't received either. After reading reviews I'm terrified I'm going to be one of the few unhappy customers that just never seem to get the entire order correct and gives up. I know its early to think such things, but I'm a born pessimist. X.X I will say that the company seems more than willing to fix the misunderstandings/mistakes that have been made, but I'd be much happier if they hadn't happened in the first place.
I will write them a message now, just to make sure. To be honest my whole order with them is already pretty terrifying and I pray it will arrive here complete and correct, which I am not entirely sure of. I ordered a custom colored body (they got a part for matching from me), an extra upper arm in the same color, two extra lower arms from two different bodies in another color and the custom colored Colby. If everything arrives here like I ordered I will sacrifice something to the resin gods in return Edit: They replied and told me they will send the open mouthed Colby...now just for hoping they will stick to their promise.
(Hope the image works. I've tried everything but photobucket) I have a friend with an Impldoll Colby. She got him like new from a doll shop, because he was just sitting on the shelf there and caught her eye. His mouth is "open", and she didn't open it. However the bottom mouth piece isn't a joint. It's a magnetic part that can fall off and get lost if not careful. No detail to it, just a piece. Also, hers is green, but not that shade of green. They must have changed the design. I'm sorry. I ordered an Impl Jayden who is still processing. Hope they haven't changed him.
Oh gosh, optimistically the company seems to be VERY understanding when you take photos and show them the issues you have. A picture really is worth a thousand words. They were very willing to replace/fix the issues. I will say they threw in a free wig with Colby as a 'gift' for the hassle of time we had to wait before I opened it. The wig is too big for him (not that a gator really wears wigs) but it was a kind gift and if I ever get a doll small enough its an adorable little white wig. After we messaged them and they understood the issue they were quick to offer to send an entirely new doll (probably because of the color issue and the head). I'm not exactly thrilled with the transaction, and before I leave feedback i want to see how it goes. I'm still on the fence about ordering anything else at the moment...but I honestly think it all depends on how this all comes to an end. They were more than upfront that it was an error on their side. When I received the doll my first thought was "Oh hell he's awfully pale". Apparently since they were already over their projected shipping time they sent him as he was. I'm not sure if they wanted me to just be happy I received a doll...and just leave it at that. I'm not sure honestly. In the message they said they shipped him out, knowing his resin was far too pale, because of the time it had been taking to make him and some issues they were having with the resin color. While your image did not work we were able to get some user images of him with his mouth open (using the magnet like you mention) and they said their workers used the wrong mold, as someone had previously requested a closed mouth Colby and they just used that mold instead. When I showed them the pictures it seemed they realized what was wrong with the doll, but beforehand they were looking at me like I was crazy. Fortunately for you, Jayden's mouth doesn't open (at least not in any of the pictures I have seen of him) My Colby is well made, he has a few flaws but only one of them has to do with his mold (Beyond the head issue) He has a little bit of a line across his stomach that didn't seem to show but its honestly very little of the issue. Everything else looks fine besides the color and the head. I haven't seen a recent Jayden, he's adorable but the scars were a bit much for me
I cannot believe they got my order wrong!!!! I ordered Jayden and they gave me a closed mouth Colby like yours!! Seems that's all they make now, and I am devastated with this purchase. ... And angry. It's been a super stressful and rough week for me. I have never wanted to smash something so expensive into pieces. ... That kind of week.
they didnt give you the scar-eyes face? Seems odd. Jayden doesnt have a mouth that opens, but his face is all scarred up. I would contact them and explain the differences with pictures. I do know, worse case scenario, if you can get a refund fabric and friends has one or two jaydens for sale. I took a look at them last time i visited the shop but i really wanted the special green skin and a pirate outfit for colby vs the "down under" look so we contacted the company directly. Im sorry to hear things are going bad. I really cannot stress pushing that they gave you the wrong product. They told me colby was like that multiple times before i showed pictures expressing my distaste and then they admitted they were wrong. Make sure to leave a review once everything is settled as well. People need to know whats going on and while colby isnt exactly on topic here we should still be able to leave company feedback. I'm still worried about what the replacement colby they are shipping will end up lookong like. I pray for an open mouth...but i worry it will be a darker version of the doll i received the first time.
It is odd, the croc I received has no wrinkles, no scars, no teeth, a big closed mouth smile, and two wide eyes. What I really loved most about Jayden is that he only had one eye, and teeth with his closed mouth! I sent pictures to the company, and they said they would be working on a free Jayden head right away. I'm still in disbelief that I received the same thing as you did, but, here he is, only in grey skin. Not certain how they could mess up so many orders with the same thing. Really hoping that we both don't get closed mouth Colby's again. Comforting to know another place has them at least, as a backup plan. Very tempted to just get one of those, but I paid all this money for this grey skinned one. As you did for yours without the outfit. Fingers crossed for extra luck that we both get what we originally ordered.
Yeah, i can only hope perhaps there was a "lazy" employee that made mistakes the day both of ours was made and that this isn't common. It's hard to track dolls like this because they're of topic but this (in my opinion) definitely impacts how i view the company. I'm hoping it was a mistake and things get sorted out but I'm also trying to prepare myself for the worst
Just realized, and now I'm curious if this is what the free crocodile dolls look like that come with other orders? Wondering if this was the default make shipped out, instead of what was pictured, or if they got Jaydens and Colbys.
I was curious about this as well...but its practically impossible to tell. Ive joined a few facebook groups trying to hunt down people that purchased through the event to see just what they ended up with and im stalking the box openings in hopes of catching a glimpse. Either way its a bit if a heartache. My husband messages them directly when he ordered mine. I wanted the open mouth colby but with a pirate outfit. They said it was completely possible to buy a special green skin colby with the pirate jayden clothes...but so far im still waiting.
Just as a heads up, Impl has notified me they are going to ship the replacement (and his clothes I ordered) within a week. So I'll be giving them 7 business days (Yes, I'm being a little lenient here) before I send them another e-mail asking about the scenario. When he arrives I will make sure to update the thread as well so those of you curious/waiting know the outcome.
Oh good, was wondering about this! Please keep doing updates, really appreciate it. I haven't heard anything since their last email saying they would fix this.
I plan on it. We have had to e-mail them a lot to get our responses. I was basically pestering my husband for updates and he would e-mail them after I pestered him enough.
So, I just got a shipping update. "Thank you for your patience ^^. We have sent the hand of -, the registered mail number will be available in 4-5 days later, we'll email it to you as soon as it's available :-)" I requested a Jayden head. If they send a hand instead of a head, I'm asking for a refund. Sent a message asking about it. Sure hope that's a typo, because my head hurts.
Oh gosh, I really do hope its a typo as well. My package should be arriving tuesday or wednesday as its in my state, but with the holiday on Monday I'm not certain if it will make it to my post office on tuesday in time for delivery. Hopefully yours gets sorted out. If my colby doesn't open his mouth...I think I'll have a heart attack. I'll be okay if his color isn't perfect, I know colors differ from the screen...but I don't know how I'll feel if he's not right. I know its a little selfish, as they are letting me keep the pale incorrect colby but if this order isn't correct I don't think I'll be doing business with them again. The closer it gets to the package arriving the more nervous I am about opening it.
Well, I received him today. His mouth opens, he's a darker green..much closer to the green they show him to be. He came with the outfit I ordered, as well as the other outfit that you can get him with (So both Colby and Jayden's outfit). Overall I am 'pleased' I suppose. He's either dirtied with some sort of mold release or covered in sanding marks and resin. I literally just received him but I want to go ahead and remove my fingernail polish before I attempt to clean him up so that may wait until later tonight. While I do have pictures of him I do not want to add more negativity to this thread so I won't be posting them until I know if its just debris or if they sanded the entire front half of him. I know the right thing to do is be grateful, I have two dolls, two outfits (well, only one set of eyes) and I only paid for one but there is this sour taste in my mouth that I hope will resolve when I get him cleaned up. Part of me was hoping he would show up in a similar condition to my little mute I received the first time (Luckily his has very minimal sanding/flaws) but at this moment I just can't say for sure. Also, the clothing seems really rough. I can feel the back of the rivets and what not...they are so rough I am afraid to put anything on him and scratch him.
Oh boy, as long as I get the right head sculpt soon, I should be overjoyed. (Don't want to get too excited... in case it gets lost or it's the same one as I've already got or who knows what..) I can understand, an otherwise happy experiance has been tainted with many troubles. Glad your croc at least has the mouth that opens + the outfits. Hope the bod comes out alright now. Just want this all to be done.
