IMPL dolls Star, Model & Idol Discussion 16

Sep 2, 2022

    1. does anyone know if impldoll is planning on releasing moira as a basic doll like they did madeline and vilma? i'm really wanting her on the 62cm body later this year.

      • x 1
    2. I think there’s a good chance but after the promo for a free head on the star muscle body is over, it would cost more.

      • x 1
    3. I'm sure you can order her as a basic doll now, but you'll have to pay regular price. Impldoll tends to only do promo pricing when they release new bodies.

    4. Hello there!
Does anyone know the measurement for Impldoll 68 female body's high heel feet?

Thank you very much in advance.

    5. @Domitila According to their official measurements, the flat feet are 7.5 cm by 2.7 cm. Anybody can correct me if I'm wrong, I think doll makers make their high heel feet the same length and width as their flat feet counterparts for shoe fitting consistency.

I recently received two pairs of heels from two different 3rd party sellers for my SartoriaJ middle heel feet and they surprisingly fit fine just going off by the numbers lol Fun fact, I'm also shopping for heels listed for IMPL68 because of the very close sizing. I'll see how that goes

      • x 1
    6. I have the heel legs. It’s a very strong heel, not a middle heel.

      • x 1
    7. @sageyufi thank you so much! I was a bit uneasy thinking whether there were any size differences between flat and high heel. I don't own many female BJDs only two and they're both from Soom. I was wondering whether different companies had different feet sizes for their flat/ heel lol.

      thanks a lot! <3

    8. @Mahgiep I considered purchasing the heel legs, they're so beautiful <3. Sadly the heel shoes I loved the most didn't fit the foot length, thus my hope the heel feet to be a teeny tiny smaller. lol.

    9. I still haven’t put them on or looked for shoes! :mwahaha

    10. I ordered a 62cm Star body on February 11 directly from Impl's taobao shop, and last night I got a notice that the body had arrived at the TB's forwarding warehouse. I was not expecting it to ship so soon. Now to just wait for it to ship to me.

I bought the body for a second hand DZ Cherry head. The resins probably won't match, but I'm hoping to make it work.

    11. @sageyufi Yes, when I got the notice I thought it was one of my clothing orders. I'm looking forward to putting this doll together.

    12. Has anyone else had an issue with their new doll having kicky limbs? I got my first doll, an Impl Ransom, last year and I’ve been trying to stretch out his arm elastic but it’s just as bad as when I first got him. Is this a known thing with Impl or do I need to bite the bullet and replace his arm elastic?

      • x 2
    13. This is news to me, is he on the old idol boy body? I haven't bought any of their boy bodies so I'm not sure about how they pose...

      • x 1
    14. I have 2 older TGB boy bodies (70cm) and the new 75cm. No issues with kickiness although the old bodies make me crazy when the joint in the upper arm moves around and one has magnet hands that constantly fall off. The 75 idol is a dream so far.

      • x 1
    15. I hate that upper arm joint. Neither of my 2 factory strung large boys (or 2 tinies) have any issues with kickiness.

      • x 1
    16. Yeah, I keep thinking about gluing it permanently. I have glued 2 dolls human ears (different company) because I kept losing them when I changed clothes, which I do fairly often.

I wonder if there’s a twist or something in the arm elastic that makes them kicky.

      • x 1
    17. I keep thinking of gluing it as well. But I'm ultimately lazy and never get around to doing so. The only doll I have where that joint doesn't irritate me is Mkhai (Miguel The Demon Hunter) but that's because of the way his spikes are designed and it seems necessary to have that upper arm joint.

I think it was a mistake to keep the upper arm joint and remove the thigh joint on the newest version of the Model body (it should've been the other way around in my opinion).

      • x 2
    18. I understand that joint was supposed to allow more cross the body movement (now elbow double ball joints instead of hinges) but no human arm works that way, haha. But why did they make those terrible magnet hands, one grabby and one resting? Luckily the boy with that body has a mike in his hand a lot since he’s my version of a stocky, muscular r&b Korean singer Ilike. And weak magnets at that.

    19. It was? Okay but it would be very weird body movement. And no, a human arm doesn't behave that way unless you've got a horrific break going on there. I suppose the same could be said for the thigh mobility joint (or at least my thigh doesn't work like that, lol). But at least the thigh mobility does actually do something useful in certain posing positions. To be fair, a thigh mobility joint engaged looks terribly unnatural when the doll is nude but with pants/shorts/dress covering the joint, it does look like a natural leg positioning for some poses.

      • x 2
    20. I think I mostly swivel at the thigh joints.

      • x 1
    21. If I'm doing a seated with thighs touching chest pose, I'll pull the mobility out of joint so I can get that look. I don't do it often but it's a nice option.

      • x 3
    22. My Star body showed up today and it's lovely! And as I expected the head is nowhere close to matching. Now to decide if I want to dye the head or just have the faceup artist color match with pastels and faceup.

      • x 6
      • x 1
    23. I am using 14/5. All my dolls use small irises because it’s my preference. I really don’t like when less than 45% of the whites don’t show in the sockets. I like a good solid white too, sometimes opting for glass or plastic rather than resin especially for NS dolls. Whites look whiter to me in tan. But I am very fussy about eyes.

      • x 3
    24. I hear you about being fussy about eyes, I tend to be the same way. I do a little under standard sizes (14/6 as opposed to 14/7) as they strike a good balance. I'll see if I can make these eyes happen :)

      • x 1
    25. I'm picky about eyes, too, but it's usually the style of them over the size of them. That's why I make eyes. Almost whatever I can dream up, I can make. Still trying to figure out how some looks are done but everything is a learning process, right?

      • x 3
    26. Haha! Good for you! I make eyes too! I learn every time.

      • x 1
    27. My only problem with making eyes is that I frequently come up with cool ideas/designs that none of my guys would wear. They're specific characters from my novels so their eye look is very much set in stone. I have mucked around a tiny bit with the shade of their eye colour but that's about as far as I go with regards to them.

      • x 2
    28. Similarly I have mostly Asian dolls that look best with brown eyes, black, or grey. So I am r also constrained.

      • x 1
    29. Lol, almost all of my crew is some flavour of not human and generally their eyes will reflect that. Technically speaking, I only have 1 doll that is human. The rest are gods, elves, demons, fairies and species that I've made up. That does allow me to get funky with eye design but it also means that they are very firmly locked into certain eye looks.

    30. Popping in here to post a pretty good color match! I got my 68cm idol body in brown today. Here's the head I sculpted (Violet) in Harucasting's "light tan" on the impldoll body in brown.

The tones I had put in the faceup (a month ago, without having the body) seem to match it a bit better, as I added some more yellows and reds to Haru's color. It's basically the same shade, but a slightly different tone.

    31. I do wanna ask, do any of yalls bodies actually stand up on their own? The 68cm idol body's ankles just flop all over the place and there is nooooo way she would stand up. The legs are so skinny compared to the upper half of the thighs/hips that the knees and ankles collapse inward. Even being fully supported by a stand, the ankles collapse inward. I wired both legs with a thicker copper wire and even did a double wire twisted around itself for both hips just so it wouldn't violently flop inward whenever I moved the doll (still can't stand up whatsoever, but is less floppy when I move anything)

I was planning to mod this body eventually because I didn't like how skinny the lower legs are (looks disproportionate to me, and the character is more muscular anyway). But really the entire leg just needs to be made wider starting at mid-thigh all the way down to the ankles in order to provide any semblance of support to it. I dunno. Don't mean this to sound like a rant but genuinely curious if any of their other bodies can support themselves. It seems like they can in promo videos and stuff, but maybe I'm thinking of other sizes that are smaller?

      • x 1
    32. My model girls and mgb can support themselves unwired bare foot for a good chunk of time, and with shoes that time becomes longer even in heels... my muscle girl body is stuck in transport hell rn so I can't report on her currently. Not sure why your 68 is having trouble then but maybe someone else with the body is suffering with similar issues?

      • x 1
    33. I have the 68 girl and the 75 boy. Both stand fine. :daisy

      • x 1
    34. Okay, that is odd. Any suggestions on things I can try? Do you think it has to do with the elastic tension? It seems to be strung tight enough, but maybe it's like not "balanced" on where the tension is? Do you think the elastic could be too tight/too short?

Impldoll had sent me a dark tan doll by mistake a while back, and the person I sold it to also mentioned they couldn't get her to stand. (I didn't really play around with that one, as I knew I would just sell it, so I don't have insight into why from that example) It's reassuring other people's dolls function but I wonder what I can try to improve mine.

    35. I would ask Impldoll first in case it’s a known issue. Also so they are aware of a problem.

      • x 1
    36. Have you tried hot glue sueding? My 63cm body came with some hot glue sueding already, but I added more and she stands really well even in heels...err heeled boots.

    37. I was able to mess with the doll a little more today and I hot glue sueded her - I did a few dots of glue and smeared it around with an index card in all of the joints except for the thigh-to-hip ones. So, her entire body is wired and sueded.

The hot glue has fixed the "ankle collapsing" inward issue, which has allowed her to stand better. The hips do still want to sort of "settle" inwards at the hip bean-to-torso joint, like the legs want to be touching, but they are more easily able to be positioned in not that way now. She's less helpless and I can get her to stay put standing up, at least, but I still will use a stand anyway. Good enough for me for now, though!

      • x 2
    38. Yay!....yeah I still use a stand for my Sicily on the 63cm body. That girl is too heavy...and too expensive to let just stand there on her own lol.

What kind of stand are you using? I've managed to acquire a couple of the older Kaiser metal stands, but can't for the life of me find anymore that are big enough. I need to start going to antique shops again lol.

    39. A while back, I bought three of these to hold this doll plus the future two 1/3 werewolves I am sculpting lmao. I think the one I'm using is working okay so far. The metal pole part can feel a little wobbly if you telescope it all the way up, but I think it's thick enough to support this body so far. I have only used it for a few days since I got this doll, though.

    40. I get Kaisers on Amazon. 16”-24”

    41. After writing my comment yesterday I went to Goodwill and they happend to have an older doll using a Kemper waist stand. So for $3 I have another stand. It works well enough for my 60ish girls...68cm...probably too short.

I ordered those crotch stands too, but yeah they make me a little nervous lol.

    42. Great find!

    43. My muscle body came yesterday and it's very nice and I got another gift head, a Moira I think with a faceup. She's grabbed some gift eyes I got and my foveo wig that no one has claimed.

    45. So impldoll showed a new plump SD body off on IG, which I'm very much interested in. Impldoll on Instagram: "1/3 Plump body picture sharing. If all goes well, we hope to release this body in August. Its height will be 61-62cm(including head) #balljointeddoll #dollpainting #bjdfaceup #fashiondolls #dolls #dollmakeup #dollfaceup #doll #bjddoll #newdoll #bjdmakeup #bjdphotography #bjdphoto #bjd #abjds #bjdinstagram #impldoll #bjddolls"
Can anyone here comment on what is a close match to Switch powder beige? I have a Rosetta doll head that's roughly that shade that needs a body.

    46. My Minerva. I love how awesome she looks. I need to take some new pictures soon with her purple dress :)

    47. I hadn't realised but there's been a sudden discontinuation of many sculpts? I was finally looking to get an Irvin but can't find him on any reseller site nor on the official Impl one :pout:

      • x 1
    48. @Veraverorum I believe Irvin disappeared months ago (at least from Alice's Collections), as I was also eyeing him. I was surprised as I didn't think he was limited

    49. I’m rejoining this happy thread now that I received my Moira on the new 63cm slim muscle body in dark tan. I still have my Impldoll Azalea elf, but she’s waiting on a new body arrival before I’ll share her again…

Anyway, here’s Queen Ursa all dressed up and painted!
I do need to suede her ankles as they like to turn inward making her unstable. She can stand, but I don’t trust leaving her alone without leaning against something securely…

    50. @IzabethS I saw your box-opening for her and just wanted to say "Wow" she is so majestic. I love Impldoll's dark resin though I don't have one myself right now. The new body is very statuesque. I like my old muscle body but it's definitely got more ba-donk in the tru-donk.

    51. I realized I forgot to post the pic of the doll head I got from impldoll after a long wait :abambi:
[IMG]impldoll andreas by Victoria, on Flickr
While waiting I kinda lost interest for this project and my doll preferences changed a bit, so I put him aside :sweat. Today I was sorting my doll things and I was like, wait, this guy is nice, he is kinda teen anime-ish prince, I should build him. Impldoll might have took long, but they did a great job and gave him a quality company face up that looks like the promos <3. For now he doesn't have anything of his own, no body, eyes and wig are borrowed, so it's a bit off. I might not even end up with the blond hair like the promos, they gave him nice dark eyebrows(i love eyebrows and the eyelashes in this face up the most), I might try dark hair. It's gonna be interesting.

      • x 13
    52. I can't wait to see the progress. The face-up makes him look so charming, too. I'm curious if he could pull off red hair, too. You don't have to do it; I was just saying it out loud because anime characters have so many hair colors to choose from.

      • x 2
    53. :thumbup wow that's actually a great idea, he has some freckles painted on already, red hair goes on top into my considerations now...

    54. Does someone know if the Star Muscle body Slim would be a good fit for a Switch male head? I love the body and it's years I was planning a hybrid but I never found the pefect body. The Star Muscle body Slim thought is very realistic and thick enough for the ahestetic I wanted, so I'm really considering the option

    55. I don't have that body, but I do have a couple with a similar neck size, and the Switch Muhyul head I have is a little large for the neck. It doesn't gap too badly, and some kips or a neck protector would probably make up the difference.

      • x 1
    56. Mine is a Huisa D, on the Switch websites it says it's compatible with their 64/65cm bodies so i think proportion wise it should be fine on a 63/64 body (since I checked and the shoulder size on the Star Muscle Body is wide enough, they're actually a little bigger than the 64cm switch body so it should look right... I hope at least). As for the neck I will probably need something to adjust the gap, but I think it should't be too much.
