IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread Part 8

Dec 8, 2015

    1. @Uminari - Your Malik is so fancy OvO

    2.
    3. @Uminari - Malik's outfit looks really great! I still love that purple shirt :)

      @Hansongirl97 I sent you a PM!

    4. So... after not hearing back for a couple of days after sending a follow-up email, I sent Impl a message on facebook with a screen grab of my original email with the date and time stamp. They replied almost immediately and said they hadn't received my mail, and to send it again. So I did.

Several hours later, I got another FB message from Impl saying they still hadn't gotten my mail, so I sent it AGAIN using a different email provider (gmail) since hotmail seemed to not be working. Less than a half hour after sending the gmail-mail, I got an invoice for my Azaela head! Yay!

Thanks so much for the advice and help everyone! I really appreciate it, and I'm so excited for my Azaela now. <3

    5. exactly...this is what i suspected because i also used hotmail and there were issues. i'm glad you managed to work it out though ^_^ they really are sweet people and will do everything they can to help. it's why despite them not necessarily being the absolute best in every way, they are still my most favored company. sometimes customer service means more than how perfect and flawless your sculpts are or how prestigious your dolls are! most companies don't come even remotely close to impl as far as customer service goes and when you're spending hundreds, peace of mind is as important as the product. kinda wish other companies could get that through their heads.

      • x 1
    6. @Elzaim I'm glad you finally resolved that issue! I've also taken to messaging them on FB just to verify that they had received the payment.

@MaryamDN I also suspected that they encountered a deluge of emails due to the event and hence the mail provider couldn't handle it. It wasn't like of them to ignore emails for 3++ days. Indeed, some of my local BJD friends who were not familiar with Impldoll were surprised at their responsiveness. Some companies could take weeks to reply, they told me.

    7. ^_^ yes of course. as was noted earlier, event times must be very very busy for impl especially considering their rather generous offers. i remember when i was ordering Aurora, i emailed them within minutes of impl posting her on their IG page and they literally responded to me within a minute...i think the whole transaction from when i saw they posted the picture to when i paid took under 10 minutes. no company can beat that!! i may as well have been texting them!

    8. Just an update for those who ordered during the Impldoll anniversary event, the company's reply to my query last 6/2 as to when shipping will be:

"we will ship the doll in 45 days:)"

Note that I ordered my Azalea head with a body and a wig (and no faceup), so the shipping times for the other orders may vary. ^_^

    9. Hello everyone! Is it just my PC or is the Impldoll website down? :atremblin

    10. I think the Impldoll website is down. I tried Safari and Google Chromeโ€ฆโ€ฆ..no good on either.

    11. try going through Alice's Collections if you're just browsing for the dolls. if you're placing orders, email or facebook should be good...their website is hit and miss :p

    12. they really should fix that browser problem.....

Finally Malik got a potrait that he deserved

    13. @Uminari he looks like the hero of a romance novel!

    14. @Uminari Awesome job! Looks like he's in Venice or something similar. :3

The Impldoll website is up again, yes. And they've posted the news of this new anti-UV brown skin color and a new thigh for the girls (probably an equivalent of IH's mobility thigh?). Supposedly the new thigh will already be the default. Since I ordered a body with the Azalea head during the event, I'll ask them if my order will get those thighs too.

    15. ahahaha... the brown skin is gorgeous! I'm still glad I ordered Zera in the custom brown colour when I did, and I don't feel bad about it since the colour mix service didn't cost extra, but omg...that brown is ever so tempting. I'm over here going :doh :doh :doh about the new thigh, though. On one hand, I'm super glad they fixed the posing issues with this body, but on the other hand I'm annoyed that my girls (in custom colours dammit) are on the old body with the troublesome legs. Also, it's kind of too bad that the white balance and exposure seems to be messed up on their colour samples picture. Anti-UV Real and Pink are not those colours, and regular real looks...off? Oh well.

@Uminari - Malik looks great! That is a beautiful photo of him.

    16. Jumping in here thanks to Impldoll's last FB event! I went for an Azalea head because that nose has such a nice shape! I know I've asked on a reference thread before, but I thought I'd ask here too, does anyone know how Impldoll's 70cm heads look on 60cm bodies?

    17. @Choctopi - do you mean the 70cm female heads? Like, Idol woman heads on Star woman bodies? My Sini (Azalea) is on the Star woman body and I think that the proportions are excellent. In fact, even though Azalea is supposed to be an Idol, I think she may even look better as a Star.

kinda NSFW... sorry... Sini is a tease. There are more pictures of her in her album on my Flickr, including a full body shot.

    18. I ordered a Star body for my own upcoming Azalea, because @SapphireStargazer's Sini has convinced me that she looks better with her body type downgraded. :) The Idol body has the tendency for giraffe-neck in some sculpts, unfortunately.

On a side note, Impldoll has verified that the body I ordered during the FB event will get the new improved thigh parts too, so that's an added bonus.

    19. @SapphireStargazer
Oh, it's good to see that Azalea fits on the Star body! Buuuuut I'm actually going to be sticking my Azalea on a 60cm boy body XD However, comparing the proportions of your photos, the star body measurements, and the measurements of body I have planned, I think it'll work. Thank you so much!

    20. @Choctopi i have a Star v.1 (old Star man) body here as well. I can put her head on that and take a picture tomorrow, if you want to see the proportions of it.

    21. @SapphireStargazer Yes please! If you have the time, a picture or two would be very helpful~

    22. @chotopi - No problem! I can do it after work today :)

    23. Since the curvy Idol body's perfect for vintage wear...and I needed some light distraction, two 1950's Bras, one with matching panties.

    24. @Avnia those are so cute! I love that you chose fabrics that look vintage too!

    25. Hi Sapphire Stargazer! No, I haven't died and forgotten to let anyone know. I've been emersed in family problems and health issues and not done much of anything with my dolls for a while. BUT, I have been lurking in the background and monitoring
      posts, and everyone's gorgeous dolls.
I have my "caramel" paint chip, just sitting here waiting while I hunt for just the right head sculpt for a book character I want to to imbody.Your paint matched children are all marvellous! (I hope this new search will spur me back into working with my dolls again. :sighI've been rather depressed.)
You are absolutely correct about the skin color samples; they are SO WRONG! :doh I hope they get them fixed soon!I love the pix of the new brown. I thought that color would solve my skin color problem but it is the perfect color for other characters in the book
series I'm re-reading for the third time.:XD: I can't sign off without saying "Hey" from :sneaky to :cool:โ€ฆโ€ฆ.:thumbup

    26. Hi all my replacement medium bust piece for Azalea arrived...and it looks like this:
      Impldoll Azalea new bust piece
To say I'm devastated at the non-matching colour would be fair. Thing is I ordered heel feet last year and they were a great match so I went ahead and ordered the bust piece and well...I've been too upset to contact Impl, but I'm ready to deal now.

    27. @Lelm Oh my, I'm sorry to hear about the color difference. It's already difficult to match the colors of various bjd companies in a single doll, and to think that within Impldoll there's a color mismatch as drastic as that. Now I'm wondering how I'm going to reliably match outside jointed hands to their sculpt.

    28. To those who already have the Azalea head sculpt, I would like to ask for help. What is the exact width of her eyewell? I know she officially takes in 12mm-14mm eyes, but I am going to commission custom eyes and the measurements have to be precise. Thank you in advance!

    29. oh dear...are you sure you ordered the right color? your Azalea looks like it's in pink skin, and the replacement looks like it's normal skin.
if you're sure the order was correct, i'd contact impl asap and politely explain the problem. they're usually very helpful and try to fix things as far as i know.

    30. ^_^ just dropping in again to share this quick photo i took of Laila, my azalea. i took her out to model a wip i had going and took the opportunity to snap a few quick pictures of her as well.

    31. She looks great, @MaryamDN ! Did you make her wig? It's very pretty.

    32. @MaryamDN wow I like the style you gave her! And those eyes are a dream!

      ----
Somrthing else: I want to order my star body for the incoming Azaela head faster than thought (first I wanted t wait till they puplish an summer event but as I will have much time for sewing the upcoming months through my medical treatment I thinking of ordering next ...).
My question is: does the new star body comes with both flat and high heels and Iยดm thinking of ordering all 3 bust pieces so how much will them add to the costs?

    33. @Uminari - The new Star girl comes with both flat and heeled feet included. I'm not sure what the extra busts will cost though. I've never purchased them separately.

    34. @AntarelNefertili do you need your eye measurement from inside corner to outside corner? Also up and down? In cm? (Or do you have it now? ) :D

    35. do sd16 outfit fit the new 64cm star female body? i don't know if a medium bust is too large or if i should get the small bust.

    36. @fishcake I managed to get the measurements both from Impldoll themselves and by cross-checking the eyes from various pictures/reviews of Azalea. I still thank you for offering to help, though. I was tearing the web apart for good reptilian eyes, and in the end I had to narrow it down to an Etsy commission.

@BlitheFool I didn't know that the new Star girl will arrive by default with both types of feet. :o And here I was thinking of how difficult it is to find flat female shoes that would fit those flat feet.

    37. @orangecornelius - The new Star girls fit in Iplehouse EID and SID clothing. I *think* SD16 would be a little too small? Can anyone else confirm? I don't have any Volks girls.

@AntarelNefertili - They do indeed! Even if you're buying just a body, you get both feet by default.

    38. ^_^ thank you!
yes, the wig is one of my brushed yarn wigs. it wont be staying with me but Laila will need one like this for herself as well.

@Uminari ^_^ thanks hun! i think she'll come together nicely. the eyes were some of the first ones i made but they turned out perfect for her. <3

    39. Hello everybody, I wanted to ask about something in case anybody can offer advice. I really love my Impldoll Delia (Idol Body) but I've restrung her twice and (I've learned by now how to restring adequately, so I don't really think this is the problem) I simply cannot get her legs to function properly. I bought her second hand about 2 years ago(?) and she does not have a mobility thigh part, her upper leg is one piece. I find that her legs turn outward and she's nearly impossible to keep standing on her own while I try to take her photo.

I want to know, did anybody else have this problem? Is there something I could do to fix her? I'm not going to do any subtractive modifications to be honest. If I can't fix this problem I'm just going to move on. I just thought that before I actually do it I'd see if you guys have any suggestions.

    40. @BlitheFool the extra bust piece for my Idol cost $60 inc delivery. I definitely didn't receive both types of feet with my Idol girl - had to order the heel feet separately. The Idol's original large bust is too big, so I ordered the medium. the resin match was no good though and Impl has very kindly offered to remake the piece...The Idol girls definintly fit the EID clothing range, but I don't know about the Star body or SID clothes.

@MaryamDN Lovely Azalea pic! She looks great with soft wavy hair.

    41. @Lelm- really?? That's so weird! Both mine came with both sets of feet- and one I ordered as just a body first and bought the head later.I have the new Star body though- but it's basically the Idol bod with shorter legs. I dunno why they'd include feet with one and not the other? Star body fits in EID and SID clothes. If you have the large bust, some of the corset type outfits will be a little snug but they fit.

      • x 1
    42. @BlitheFool I find it strange too. I assumed that they didn't include the heel parts because it wasn't specified in the listing for the body. Like you, I also ordered a Star body separate from the head. We'll see if she arrives with heeled feet on the side.

On a side note, has anyone tried using jointed hands on Star/Idol women? It's strange that there are no grip hands available in the Impldoll website, and only the Idol man has an option for jointed hands.

    43. Hi!

I'm thinking of getting an Aurora to be my first SD but I'm seeing a lot of debate about the bodies... can anyone give me some advice?

And, there are 2 faceup options for her, but I'm wondering if they'd do a custom one?

Edit: I am open to hybrid if needed, I have a soom/spiritdoll hybrid that suits me just fine, but I'm really hoping for Aurora to be "pure impl" if it can work.

    44. @astromayhem Impldoll does custom faceups for $50 (comment it on the Q&A along with your instructions). I was considering it before I managed to reserve a slot in a local faceup artist's schedule.

    45. oh my O_o, no hun mine has no such problem at all. it's one of the best balanced bodies i have and she even has the massive busts...which they chose for me <.<
the only thing i can personally think of is that Impl has very shiny resin...which means slippery, especially if she's from a couple years ago. maybe some hot gluing on the inside of the joints to create friction could help?

      thank you on azalea ^_^
hmm...i also received the extra feet with my order of the idol late 2015. mind you i ordered during an event...so i don't know if that has anything to do with anything. did you order the feet in the same order with your doll or later? did they put a different gift in the box instead? they will usually include a gift, sometimes it's a practical one, like the heeled feet, other times it's an item of clothing or something. i know my Marcus came with an odd gift :p i have yet to figure out what it is...it's an oval piece of fabric with a buckle on one end <____< maybe a cape of some sort, who knows. i've been luckier since :P

    46. @MaryamDN Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it.
Did the Impldoll resin get less shiny recently? Mine is definitely super shiny! :XD: I didn't mind it though.

@astromayhem My first large girl doll was an Impldoll model Iris a few years ago. To compare that doll to the Impldoll Idol woman I have now I have to say that the Idol is a much more natural looking (and I personally think better) doll who has a beautiful body that moves well and looks great dressed. If the problem I'm having with the hips isn't typical for other people, or hey, if it could be solved with hot glue inside the joints, then I think Aurora might make a wonderful first large doll for you. I hope the information from others here can help you decide if she's the one.

    47. @AlisonVonderland - Have you tried stringing the legs separately from the torso? I know @fishcake did that to her Idol doll and now she poses very well.

      • x 1
    48. @BlitheFool I'm not even sure what exactly you mean by that. :shudder I strung her like I would string anybody. Ack.

    49. There's a tutorial of how she did it in this thread but you're basically using one string for the legs- leg to leg and one for the head/torso that's strung through the crotch. It seems to fix a lot of their posing issues.

    50. Thanks very much for your help @BlitheFool -- I'll go dig it up.

    51. I missed... 71!!!! ...posts! WTF?? GEEZ.

@AlisonVonderland, indeed my Chalyss had that problem! I followed Fishcake's tutorial and now she has all kinds of wonderful mobility! You string the torso and legs separately. I used thick string and I don't have the leg droop. I have pics on my flickr:
      Chalyss restrung

I LOVE YOU NIC! I WILL HAVE YOU SOME DAY! (maryam, do NOT tell Damien face-hubby! I won't marry Nic's face... promise)

And very very very happy Impl made the front thigh slits! THANK YOU IMPL!!! And yes, crappy my doll doesn't have it, but with her restringing I am OK with it now. And HAPPY HAPPY any future dolls will have the new action thigh! (LOOOVE THAT NEW TAN! OH YES I DO!)

    52. Ooh. That new brown tan is very pretty! And new thighs! Shame my Alma is in their old tan or I'd ask if I could get buy new legs. I restrung mine too ( I did it the Dollshe way with a string from head to leg on each side) and it's helped some but she still doesn't pose as well as I'd like. I think I need to sued her. I've been very lazy about it. She just sits around look lovely most of the time anyway.

    53. A new discussion thread: Part 9 !

      :)
