IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread part 13

Dec 18, 2018

1. @A Wee Tiefling: At the moment, 6 of my big men are crammed into one corner glass cabinet. I feel so sorry for them, it does look awful.

The rest is lying around, Pepper Potts on a sofa, my former Black Widow is in an Impldoll box. And poor Raph resides on the kitchen counter, as he is permanently required for the fitting of his armour. Two of them are on their custom stands, as both m Tony snd the offtopic guy on the TGB body ar too big not for that glass cabinet.

My dolls are a mess right now, and I am soooo unhappy about that. On the plus side, they live on the north side of our house, so no sunlight even for Mr Spock (Impldoll Mzzen).

2. @Ipledreamer Hmmm. I don't have space for furniture but I don't lack for wall height. Do you think any standard shelves, maybe with heavy-duty brackets, could hold an Impldoll Idol man?

3. I would look after the weight one shelf can carry. Better more than less. Right now, I do not care too much aboutmthe weight, as that cabinet is all wooden except the door. Originally, my fine china was in it. But of course BJDs are much more important than china tableware...

4. I thought I'd share a picture of my IMPLdoll Heloise.

5. @Audrina Mystique Oooh, that's the first time I've seen her, very nice!

Now that I'm looking at her... has anyone made one of these into an Iron Woman or other Iron Man related character, that anyone here knows? With a little modding that would be perfect.

• x 1
6. @With-a-curl: now that you have mentioned it...oh yeah! Actually, I want to have a Pepper Potts/Rescue.

As far as I know, if you ask Impldoll nicely, they are willing to recreate even sculpts that are long out of production...

@ Aidrina Mystique: do you perhaps some more pictures of her?

7. @A Wee Tiefling
I'll leave the tidbits here in case others are also interested.
you can email her with a HD photo of the eyes you want as reference or choose from her catalogue. the eyes come of metallic pegs. snip the pegs at the back till you have around 3mm or so of it to help keep in in place when you push it into your polymer clay ball. take a sharp scalpel and carefully trim off any glue that may be sticking out from the periphery of the iris back. this is important because even though those little pieces might not be immediately visible, when you push the iris into the clay, they WILL show.
once you've prepared your irises, make 2 balls of polymer clay in a slightly smaller size than you need for your doll.on a flat surface and gently press them down. you need to make the balls smaller because when you press them down your aim will be to create a half sphere. this means your polymer clay pieces will expand outwards and should at this point become the correct size to fit your doll. i like to draw circles the right size for the doll eyes on a piece of paper, then put the polymer clay balls in the center and work on top so i know i'm getting the correct size.
if they end up being a bit bigger you can always carve or sand them down so it's okay if they're roughly the same size.
gently press down your half spheres to form a slightly falter top. not too flat. locate the approximate centers of your polymer clay balls and gently begin to press your irises in place trying your best to apply vertical even pressure. at this point you do need to move slow and patiently. be gently. once your peg is all the way in, the back on the iris should be evenly resting on the polymer clay. you want to gently press it in just enough to hide the very bottom rip of the iris. if you press to fast and too deep, your polymer clay will warp and create a doughnut shape around your iris. preheat your oven to a lower than recommended temp. i use 175 to 180. sometimes 200 depending on which oven i'm using but because your polymer clay is small , it doesn't need to bake at high temps and it doesn't matter if it's 100% baked. so long as it's hard enough that it's not malleable and doesn't deform, you're good to go.once you're happy with the eyes, put them in the oven and bake on a lower than recommended temperature. for about 10 to15 mins (less time than recommended for most polymer clay). the lower temp will also help your colors stay the same. blues and greens tend to wash out a bit with too much heat.
once baked you can either choose to gloss the whites all the whole eye, add veins if you want or just leave it as is (which is what i do)
the process itself isn't complicated or hard by any means. don't let the size of the length of the instructions scare you off. I love the eyes i get out of them. i usually order several pairs and just keep them around.

@IngieBee this style beard texturing is really fun and relatively easy. to do as are the scars. I will eventually do a tutorial on my Instagram page for them like i have done for the attached hairline.... but i need a good opening in my schedule to do it. recording the process does mean it's slower. but long story short, it's just gel medium you can get at most craft stores. scars are very easy to do with it (though you can also use several layers of PVA glue). the beard requires some more patience and maybe some practice on a head cap (it washes off) but it's otherwise not a complicated technique. not something you can't teach.
8. Awesome!!! It's so good to see an owner's picture! That is one of the coolest dolls they ever made!

Really @Ipledreamer , be I never even thought to ask! Maybe next year???

Wow, thanks for all that info @MaryamDN !! I really need to sign up for Instagram! LOL

9. @Ipledreamer Not at the moment, but I could certainly take some more of her! What would you like to see? Different angles, action shots?

@With-a-curl I honestly have never seen any owner pics with anything except the default faceup and body blushing on any of these girls except mine. But yes, that would be another great character to do with her!

I've had the hardest time bonding with this girl. I originally got her for a story that fizzled out before it even started, then last year I wanted to enter her into the body blushing contest but I couldn't come up with any ideas. Then I came up with the idea of making her the Yellow Ranger from Power Rangers, so now she's become the spirit of the Sabre-Toothed Tiger Zord.

10. @Audrina Mystique I think she'd make an excellent cyborg! Of course I just love cyberpunk and she could simply be in a VR activated costume :D And YES to more pictures, with more angles and actions! Is she flexible?

• x 1
11. @Audrina Mystique: more views of her body would be great, and yes, some action shots. Whenever you have time, I am not in a hurry.

@IngieBee: I am not sure, but they did this sculpts. Whole dolls...I do not know. Vut asking never hurts IMO.

12. @IngieBee That's how I got my Christopher, I just asked them if I could order her. She's not on their website but I saved her photos from back when she was first released. I love that they do that. I mean the worst they can say is 'No' which just means your wallet thanks you. I've found this company to be one of the nicest to deal with. There is only one other company that is just as nice (OT company).

13. I really can't ask until I am ready to pay unfortunately, and I can't pay :doh. My Plaice could really use a body, but what did I do? I bought 2 heads!!! Now I need more bodies!!!

• x 1
14. Is Heloise comparable or even compatible with the Star body? Or rather the modelbody? On the website, it does not say that.

15. @Ipledreamer , I don't know Heloise? Where is Heloise?

Edit: Oh stupid me! That is the robot lady! I do believe she is from the model days, no? The one human picture they have, it no longer links anywhere, but she looks like she is on the FGB star body:

I'm going by the collar bone, both seem to have swivel arms??

And where did Leona come from, she's gorgeous (or am I suffering memory loss again? LOL)

16. Old Star body...that is not good for me...I mean my wallet.

Now I want to search for more pictures of her.

I already have my civilian Pepper Potts on the FGB Star body, so that would make body swapping super easy...and I would mod the Heloise head to wear a complete helmet.

Oh dear, you guys make me having ideas and desires...

17. LOL, good luck resisting, you know it's futile, @Ipledreamer :D

18. No, I am strong, the Force is with me...oh sorry, wrong universe.:wiggle

But let's be real, one day I will break down. My ladies are in the background right now, but their day will come...

• x 1
19. Well, @Ipledreamer , I'm glad you are strong because I'm not, and the only thing keeping me straight as usual is lack of funds, LOL

20. I'm so bad... I just bought a body for my Plaice. He's so cute, I couldn't bare to see him floating around! I also bought some stretchy stuff at Alices since Plaice is going to wear the outfit my Nicolas has on, I'm putting Nic into a trendy sweats. I also went to SartoriaJ and got funky leather pants for Eclipse. I want the boys dressed! LOL

21. thanks God i learned to sew for all clothes, it takes time to get good fiting, but i have planty of fbric to do practise. now im working on t-shirts for myself and for selling, but need new iron for applications on t-shirts as my dog eated iron cable.... oh well, it means i can sew and iron on all t-shirts in one time :-)

22. I know! I want to sew but I have no place to work :(. I've been trying to get my eldest daughter's room cleared out and organized, but I'm still not finished :doh

23. @IngieBee Do share more of embodied Plaice when you can! I need to know what clothes the big guys can fit and look good in

24. I think they could be even bigger than Iplehouse EIDs! Maybe Superhero is safest? But I just bought EID pants from Sartoriaj and hopefully they will fit and I'll take a picture :) I have the FGB though, and I think the TGB might have a bigger butt? The pants I got were more fantasy, the "leather" riding pats that flair out at the thighs? It's for my Eclipse who has an oversized medieval style shirt. But then the stretchy stuff ought to fit, I think :)

Also, I added to my order a Leona head, and paid for a faceup. If they don't make the inner eye too red, it can look pretty interesting, but their latest faceups look like they have swollen eyes, LOL. Still, I decided to take my chances on a faceup :/

25. @IngieBee: Well, Iplehouse EID stuff fits mlstly the FGB body. TGB is a bit of unknown territory. With pants, is might be a bit tricky in general. EIDs are no true 70 cm guys, whereas Idol boys are. I do not know the reason for this. If it is the superhigh cranium, it would not matter. But if it is in the leg length (which you cannot directly compare - one company says leg length, the other one waist to toe). For pants, a few centimeters off might them look funny already.

And waist is a problem. I remember I had to make my Captain America pants a bit wider. When I changed my Cap from FGB to TGB, there was a clear difference.

26. Hummm, yes, I always planned on sewing clothes for my dolls, but never get around to it :( I got Nicolas this sweater, an off white turtleneck and these pants. I think it'll look great if I can squeeze them on Nicolas. ???

• x 1
27. @IngieBee strechy trousers will be good i think, and if you dont have space for sewing mashine you can always do it by hands :-) maybe its solution, but worth to try.... Im sewing in my bedroom even i dont have too much space, so usually i move serger on one side, than take simple mashine and when i need serger i swich them.

• x 2
28. @IngieBee Those trousers look really good, I hope they suit! I'm also joining the group of weaklies who need to buy something new. It's time for me to bite the bullet and go full Idol...getting me the Tony! I might save myself some trouble and order his fullset, though I don't like it at all...

• x 1
29. @IngieBee: if these fit, Nic will look fabulous in them! I found it the best as well to learn to sew (although I am cursing a bit right now...).

@A Wee Tiefling: you know that ypu do not have to get Tony's specific fullset? Impldoll offers some other clothes for their big men, too. Maybe Mr. Garza's suit is more up your alley?

• x 1
30. Thanks for the encouragement @Anita2006 I'm just taking forever to prepare my area :doh

@A Wee Tiefling and @Ipledreamer unfortunately Alice's wrote to me saying there is no way that stuff will fit :...(. They directed me to the manufacturers who will custom size and I got Nicolas a mod pin striped suit - I think. I haven't heard back from them yet though...

31. @Ipledreamer

So...do you own that blinged-out Nicholas military rock god coat? Because so far the only outfits I like have BLING and LAAAAACE and while Commander Hairdo is a bit appearance-conscience I doubt he'd be pleased if I forced him into an outfit with both LAAAAACCCCEEE and SEQUIIIIINNNSSSS!!!!ELEVENTY. It's all a bit too on the nose for him.

(I love these Idol women clothing tho, they actually seem to be trying to make unique looks, not plain street fashion stuff)

32. Actually, I think it's interesting that they just released a few casual street clothes for the girls! But no, @A Wee Tiefling , my Nicolas arrived un-ordered (by mistake) in white skin and I got inspired by a model who has albinoism. Currently he is wearing the black shadow outfit, but it doesn't suit him IMO. Being inspired by a model, I see him more fashion consious. Plaice will get his outfit, and being an elf, I think it will suit him well :). I have my fantasy crew and my human crew :dance

Duh, you didn't ask me, LOL

33. Hopefully this is the right place (so many retired Impl threads)! -

I'm planning on purchasing Filraen (after Iplehouse Rex and Charm Doll Dunn, oof), but Impl's having anniversary sales right now so I'm very tempted to nab Filraen in October. Depends on a few things though (I want to pay off one of my layaways in full...)

• x 1
34. @A Wee Tiefling: No, I do not own this piece of clothing, it is Nic's (or rather Raph's). Sadly, it is the only one of its kind, as I made it myself. It had to have this collar, as this guy is, among some other things, a phoenix (I am still debating about that rejuvenating aspect). So I thought that fiery-red colour is very appropriate for him, as he is fire in his phoenix form.

• x 1
35. @Nissa , which one is Filraen? Can you link? I can't find him!

I'd love to get Garza before the event is over as well, but I don't think I'll have the money in time :(

• x 1
36. @IngieBee

I found him on a couple dealer sites, haven't decided where I'll eventually order from. If BJDivas is affiliated, I'll go through them (have to go check that now haha).

Impldoll Idol Filraen

I like that he has a more 'mature' face, as well as expressive and angular, because I'll be commissioning lots of mods for an older character (who's close with a character I'll be shelling with an Iplehouse EID male doll). Their sizes are comparable, with Filraen being a couple centimeters taller, which is just perfect. :D

37. Oh! He looks familiar, @Nissa! I wonder why he isn't on the site anymore??

I also wonder whatever happened to the Asian sculpt they posted on Facebook forever ago? He might be better for my character than Garza...?

• x 1
38. Hi there! Just wanted to note that we do represent them. :)

• x 2
39. @IngieBee Your answer helped me anyway, yay you! How do you find the quality of the clothing? I had a look on Impl's website and found an outfit that could work...but I'm becoming used to the silly amount of frills and froofies on Tony's fullset.

@Nissa Filraen has the coolest face, he looks so much more like a traditional elf than some of the more stylized and baby-faced type sculpts out there. Also BJDivas are great! Just finished a layaway with them...now for this one (big sigh) I like living on crackers and canned beans. Really I do.

So...how do people bewig their big ol' lightbulb shaped Impl heads. It took me an age to style Delia and I'm still not happy with her current wig

A Wee Tiefling on Instagram: โ€œMy elegant Fia came for a summer stroll #bjdphoto #bjdhistoricaldress #bjdclothes #bjdstagram #impldoll #impldolldeliaโ€

40. @A Wee Tiefling I only have the Gavin outfit and for the price, it is excellent. However, they goofed mine up. They added one too many buttons... That is below the chest piece with buttons, mine has two more back snaps.looks a little weird but I just let it go.

41. Here is Filraen: Welcome to impldoll

I like him. To me, he looks like the sweet brother of Mzzen (who I have two heads of. One is Mr. Spock, the other may become Severus Snape with a little nose mod).

It just came to my mind that my Tony indeed could have a TGB chest. I have two lying around, albeit with somewhat shorter neck. Nothing that couldn't easily be changed...

• x 1
42. Oh, he has cool ears too! Neat!

@A Wee Tiefling yes, I have a summer flu today, LOL, and I am more ... Errr... Confused than usual and not following everything clearly. But I have found you can still buy some of their outfits even if they aren't listed, so do ask if you like something :)

43. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK. I just got a response from Impldoll!!!!

Dear customer

The production of the head has been completed and we will release Asian style dolls very soon,
Now mainly in the making of accessories, clothing has other accessories^^
Best wish
Sean

Oh, and this is the outfit I ended up getting for my Nicolas. This company will taylor to your doll's size, which is awesome :)

LOL, and I just found these eyes under my bed :D

45. @IngieBee

I love the idea of getting tailored outfits! I have a Star male body in the works so I'm pretty excited to get him some fancy tailored duds. But them pinstripes: WHOA! Also, I love those cool grey vamp eyes! I need something similar in blue for my incoming Aurora

46. I'm so excited to get that Asian sculpt, because my favorite book was/is Snowcrash and I really want him to be Hiro Protagonist :D I might put him on the Star body so I can make the Huge guy Raven on Idol body. I already have YT on a small loongsoul body, so it would be like a different scale for my Snowcrash crew, LOL

• x 1
47. Oh wow, I'm sure I've already written here but I lost it or something. Thanks for the nice comments on my Crystal's new eyes. I should get my mold soon so I can try making my own eyes. I'm looking forward to doing that. I know Crystal would look better if I would put eyelashes on her but I really want to give it another try on the face up or maybe I can just add to what she has.

I seen some interesting techniques lately that add to the realism of a face up. I'd like to try it.

I'm so excited for that Asian head mold. I really think that it will suit a character from my favorite book, Snowcrash. I'm thinking of putting him on a star body. That way I can make Raven this huge Inuit character in idle size. He won't look especially large against my existing idles but he would look good with the other two characters.

LOL, Now it's there ^^^^ :lol::whee:

48. I've looked waaaay back in the thread and can't seem to find where someone kindly answered what size eyes the Ziv sculpt takes. The Impl site says 14mm but sometimes companies put quite large eyes in the doll when a size down would look better. Or you need the larger size as the eyewells are huge and would have gaping otherwise.

I'm looking to purchase some eyes and I've found some I really like. One pair is only available as 14mm and another pair is only available as 12mm. How well do the eyes show in the Ziv sculpt due to his semi-closed eyes and would I have any gaping with 12mm? I can't wait too long on the 14mm eyes as it appears to be only the 1 pair available otherwise I'd simply cool my jets until I had the sculpt in hand and go from there to figure out eye size.

And I am FINALLY going to be purchasing a Ziv in custom green to match/be close in colour to the Impl Simon Colourful Life I have as the Ziv will be his grown up version. I hope to place the order soon but I'm still trying to figure out what sculpt I like for the free baby doll I'd qualify for with my order.

• x 1
49. Hi @Iron_Dog , you know you owe us pictures of your Ziv, right? LOL.

Anyway, I don't have him but I can say a few things from experience. Since Ziv is more Anime style, the width of his eyes are probably at least 14mm. The thing I want to warm you about, because I have a couple of squinters, LOL, Is that you have to find low dome or no dome eyes, as the domes won't fit in the small space / opening. So my educated guess is to stick to 14 and make sure low/no dome over the Iris :). Hope that helps??

• x 1
50. @IngieBee Yes, when I do get him, I will certainly post pics. It's been a long road to find the right character to shell in the Ziv sculpt. I'm pretty excited to have him finally come home since I've loved the Ziv pretty much from the moment I saw him but everybody I tried to put into him was just a touch off/not right.

I have a couple of half-closed eye guys in my crew (and 1 with completely closed eyes) so I do know about the sometimes challenging issue of the eyes being the right size but the domes making it not happen. I can live with a little bit of gaping but I'd prefer to have decent fitting eyes. I'm also looking into getting some moulds and just making my own. I've made acrylics with the eye blanks and it was a lot of fun so I'm thinking doing resin ones where I can get really funky with the sclera colours or embed gems and the like will be even more fun to create.

• x 1
51. Cool, @Iron_Dog , I'm so sick of taking chances on ordering eyes and them being wrong, etc... That I also decided to make my own. I got two silicon molds that I'm waiting for, both for small Iris, one with a hole for the pupil. I bought some m2 washers to paint and insert in a depth that real eyes would sit at instead of deep round bowls just to see if it looks flat or not??? I'm so looking forward to doing this! I've kind of always wanted to try, but it wasn't until now that my frustration has overcome my fear, LOL

I have dollies go get right! And incoming too!

• x 1
52. I'm particular about the eyes in my boys. I've been fairly fortunate but some of them have been frustration incarnate to find them the right eyes.

I was given the eye blanks by a friend and enjoyed making the eyes. I've watched some tutorials on how to make resin eyes on YouTube and it seems pretty straight forward. I'm sure there's a learning curve to getting them just right and I anticipate having some less than perfect eyes at first. But that's how stuff goes when you're learning something new, right?

• x 2
53. Right!

• x 1
54. Ugh, I just read on impl's site that they are now only using anti uv 'environmental' resin and I am worried it won't match my Plaice??? Ugh, always something.

55. I hope they tested the formula thoroughly. That most likely it won't match anything I already own...oh well. My crew mostly consists of real skin guys...you would hardly believe that. It is nothing bad...except if they should ever issue hands in multiple positions. If clothed, it might work. But sometimes I enjoy looking at them without clothes...or if they wear something with short sleeves.

Then the difference might become glaringly obvious.

56. @IngieBee

They must know we're all devoted Impl lovers to do us a dirty like this ;) (But it makes my life easier since now I have no choice when ordering and we librans hate making decisions)

57. Well, I am not married to them...at least they could have warned us. Now what about colour matching? If you have a head in normal PU resin? Can you still get a body in the same material?

I am not thrilled. To make my Snape, I might need another body...sure he is mostly clothed, but it would bother me knowing that body and head from the same company do not match (he would be white resin, btw.).

58. It might not be that much of an issue. Environmental resin simply means that the materials used to make the plastic were sourced by environmentally sustainable methods.

59. Environmental resin is the lovely more transparent resin usually. But I just don't know if It will match the head I got earlier this year. My Dylan's head is also completely different from his body, and though I live with it, I'm not happy.

60. The look, the texture is different from the conventional stuff. It is all nice and dandy if you order a full, new doll. But as they had several head events, this sudden move is a bit surprising IMO.

I also hope that it does not yellow that quickly.

Oh well, maybe I will put my Snape onto the Resinsoul 70 cm body then...Snape is not supposed to be that muscular anyways.
