IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread part 12

Jul 26, 2018

    1. @Anita2006 - that couch looks so much nicer than the person-sized couch the Hus and I have (possibly because it's not really a proper couch - just bricks and boards and a folded up futon on top. Not especially pretty, but rabbit proof, which is more important ;)) Well done you!

    2. i got new eyes and my eye putty finished, so used old one, and quess when i tooked off old eyes it came out together with lashies, i reglued it again but now till my new eye putty will come my queen stays with those crazy eyes. i think so its to big pupils in them, they look fine but i will wait 12mm sized eyes till i will change them. Those are 14mm sized and it looks creepy [IMG]

      • x 1
    3. I like him showing his chest :sneaky:XD: Ugh to eyelashes, they are the bane of my existence!

    4. @AntarelNefertili it's good that you can trust the cat with your dolls, or him at least! We have a dog and I think just his tail would be enough to destroy my dolls! The body was second hand and within the UK - and the lovely seller posted it really quickly - it was so nice not having to wait too long! But it just means I'm itching all the more for my heads to arrive from Impldoll!

@shirahime I think I've seen an Aurora made into a guy - I was contemplating the possibility myself as I really love the sculpt but didn't want such a big girl - so she would have taken my Star body. But I got Dylan instead. Ah, /threads/welcome-to-luke-impldoll-aurora.745638/ - although I'm sure there was another....nope, can't find it :s

Impldoll's real skin varies so much I'm starting to wonder if it is literally the real colour of someone's skin. And they keep forgetting that they're a bit more tanned in summer so the colour match is different every time!

@Anita2006 the sofa looks great - very comfy! And it does go great with your background. I'd like to have something other than DVDs and my tv as my backdrop sometimes! The photos are just soft focus, like old Star Trek whenever a lady appeared :D And nothing wrong with showing off that chest! Blue eye putty is such a pain - it seems to show whatever you do. I've used silicone ear plugs in my dolls with weird shaped eyewells but I have to say it's not my favourite stuff to use. I prefer plain white "blu tak" - cheap as chips, easy to remove and is more forgiving if a bit is showing. I don't think the 14mm eyes look too bad, they're just a bit wonky at the mo - maybe her eyelashes need pushing up a bit? I've had a problem before where you put the eyes in and they catch on the eyelash strip pushing it out of place so they go down instead of out or up. Eyes are really tricky - initially you think all that matters is the overall size. Then you discover that the iris size is also important. And then you realise pupil size matters as well!

And because I love pic spamming here's a picture to demonstrate.

[IMG]Experimentalise by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

I was trying out small iris eyes in my Martin head because his more realistic look requires more realistic eyes. These I felt were a bit too small, and also they're hand made and I cocked them up. Ziv has a hand-made eye and his usual glass eye. While I love the colour of the eye I made, the small pupil gives him a deer in the headlights look.

I'd like to have another go at making eyes at some point - my poor Dylan needs better eyes as well as a proper wig for starters - but after initial success I just made a mess of them. Maybe I'll cheat and just buy a load of blank eye chips because that's the part I mostly mess up!

      • x 3
    5. i like small scale iris on eyes as it looks more realistic. But yes, @rubydoll i need to make more experiments with eyes i found some light brown and dark brown eyes in my box of accessories so maybe will try to change them tomorow as there was some white eye putty as well :-) i ordered white eye putty 100gr so think so will be inafe for a while :-)

    6. I was given some eye blanks by a friend and I had fun making eyes with them. They turned out pretty good, too, if I do say so myself.

    7. I've also started making my own eyes, and my Martin (Alinash) was one of the first recipients. The worst part is babysitting the resin for bubbles XD

    8. i just ordered some golden red eyes is more on yelow golden side 12mm :-) it have small iris and supose to fit my queen :-) i need to change blue eyes for my king as well :-)

    9. golden red eyes sound like they'll be beautiful in your girl. now that you've told us about them you'll have to post pictures as soon as they arrive :3nodding:

    10. @Girrl i will post, i changed yesturday to dark brown eyes, as i found some in shelf :-) looks better as it have small iris in it :-) but i will wait golden red till it arrive and will change to them :-) my girl have her character and story so she need to be in brown hairs and something like golden brown or golden red eyes as it makes her warmer :-)

    11. I agree with you on the eyes @Anita2006! Ugh too busy for the forum lately! Lovely pictures everyone! I'd love to try making eyes too!!

    12. Thanks @UrbanHermit and @rubydoll for your responses to my question.

I think I have seen that Bernice you were talking about during my google search. It looked amazing and that Aurora I actually would not have pegged that to be that sculpt, the owner did such a good job of converting her into a male.

I also love both your Martins, they look really great and it's neat that you both make your own eyes for the dolls. I haven't really done much research into eye making but it looks like it would fun to try, one day, when I have free time which seems a little lacking these days.

    13. Eyes can be fun to make but I've just had bad luck with mine. I got some eye chips which worked out quite well although most didn't match because I was messing about with them too much. So then I tried making my own bases. The first set had issues with the, uh, cornea, I guess not being smooth around the edges because I hadn't made the hole very well, or the holes were uneven so I didn't have a matching pair. So I tried really hard with the next batch to make them consistent - and then burned the whole lot in the oven XP Love the eyes you made, @UrbanHermit and your Martin looks great!

I have a nice box of various glass eyes and one of the fun things to do when a new head arrives is to try out all the eyes. And then hit up Wamami on eBay because none of them are quite right and then end up buying loads because they're on three for two or something! I placed an order with Alice's Collections and ordered some small pupil eyes for my Dylan. It's likely they'll arrive before I get round to making him new ones - I set the pupil too far back so sometimes they just disappear. Just remember where you put that eye putty, @Anita2006 - far too many times I've had to settle for using the yellow putty I got sent which I shoved in the eye box because I can't find my white tak. At least now I know it's definitely under the coat box. Or the accessories box. Or maybe the hat box. If I was good and put it away!

I've just emailed Resinsoul about ordering a Xue body for my incoming Dorisy head. She's meant to be younger than my other characters, early teens, so my original plan was to get a Zaoll body for her, or if I was feeling flush, a Dollstown elf body. However at the minute I am just throwing money at doll stuff I want before Brexit destroys the value of the pound so I am going for a more affordable option. Of course the Xue body isn't as short as I'd like but I am most of the way through hacking my April Story body a few centimetres shorter so I need something new to use my Dremel on, right?? And sawing through skinny Resinsoul thighs shouldn't be nearly so hard as the AS body's curvier ones! I'm also wondering if I might cut the torso in half as well and either create a new joint or just fit her back together but we'll see how she works with the rest of my crew. Dorisy is a Star head but I know she looks good (arguably better) on the Model body so fingers crossed it'll be a good hybrid.

My other problem right now other than not having enough money to throw at everything I want is that I've decided one of my characters needs a boyfriend so I am tormenting myself eyeing up all the male dolls. I don't actually have any clue what said boyfriend is going to be like so the enabling part of my brain suggested I just use it as an excuse to buy a doll I like. I've already considered Aurora as a guy but now I'm squinting at Cecelia and wondering if owning her would stop me getting the blooming song stuck in my head everytime I see her name! And then I saw Tony and damn I always forget how handsome he is! But he's so big - 60 - 65cm is where I'm aiming. And all the while the sensible voice in my head is whispering "focus on the dolls you have..."

      • x 1
    14. I think Sensible Voice has thrown up her hands in disgust and walked out on me.

I want to finally get Ra-Sui his body (SD Vito) but SD is also having a sale right now and there is a doll that would go so very well with a couple turning them into a triad and I have his wig picked out and know his name and background and there's the Ziv that needs to be with Arjan and....

My wallet weeps softly in the corner and begs me to stop hurting it.

      • x 1
    15. LOL, That busted my gut, I keep hearing that song when I see her name as well!!!

    16. the voice inside me telling me to focus on outfits wich still not finished and make new ones :-) i got some people asking me to make some simple dress for they dolls for afordable price and it would be great expierence and ofcourse extra money in my pocket, but this moment even if im going to shop or going to town with my daughter i come back home so tired and dont have power to do anything, somethimes even im to tired to make food... But i hope so i will start to do face up on john head so will get into inspired mood maybe :-) i know, i talked long time ago that i will do his face up, but life is somethimes dont push me on this way...

    17. @Anita2006 Life is just that way sometimes. I fully intended to make some clothes yesterday for some of my newer guys. However, after doing the groceries, cleaning the bathroom and sweeping the apartment, my allergies went nuts, which triggered an asthma attack. On top of that, my newly acquired inflammatory arthritis did NOT appreciate all the activity (it's in my thumb/forefinger joint, which makes gripping/lifting things painful) and it let me know it wasn't happy. I couldn't really do anything after that, which was frustrating but that's life. You need to work within your limitations and accept what those limits are (which are frequently lower than you'd like).

    18. My days rarely go as planned! That's just real life.

    19. My days never ever move forward. If I get 5... No, 1% of anything I want to get done, done, it's a very good day, LOL

    20. @Iron_Dog its just past two weeks of my ad life expierence, that i cant focus on my hobby, but i will be fine, just need to sort out everything and start to do some hobby stuffs. life is definetly going on and somethimes not on that side i would like.
My john head is still without face up, cant manage to do it with shaking hands, but will try when i will get inspiration.

    21. @IngieBee I'm glad I'm not the only one afflicted by the Cecelia earworm!

I sometimes find the more time I have the less I get done. Like today I had the whole day. Plan number one was write 3500 words so I'm back on target with Nano. Instead of cracking on I put Netflix on. When it became apparent I didn't feel like writing I looked to my dolls and there was plenty on my to-do list I could do. I did one/two things. And they were really minor - I put another layer of latex on the "boots" of my Pyramid Head costume and painted a ring of gold onto one girl's finger so the gem I'd glued on looks more like a ring and less like a gem I glued on. I'll re-do it at some point - and paint the "ring" first :p I want to take new pictures for my dolls profiles on here, especially as some are out of date - at least two are no longer on the same body - but I didn't do that either. I don't know if the prospect of getting everyone changed out of their halloween costumes made it feel like too much of a chore. It's a pretty full week so I really should have made better use of today.

But sometimes you do just need to take a break. Sometimes you're just too tired or whatever to do things you enjoy so it's fine to veg out. It's concerning if you lose all interest in your hobbies but I think we experience enough guilt about getting the things we have to do done, or not done, without putting pressure on what's meant to be fun and relaxing. Enjoy what you do get done and look forward to doing what you don't.

I feel like I'm trying to justify being a lazy cow today but I still think my point is valid. :sweat

I did officially order my incoming Dorisy's body though so that's something. Impldoll has usually had a wait time of about three months for me, Resinsoul a little faster although they have been busy I think so they've been a bit slower. So I wonder which will arrive first.
I just found this -> :wantshipping: I think it should be my signature XD

    22. I've been lazy and unmotivated all weekend. In my defense, yet another part of NorCal is on fire so the air quality is really, really terrible outside and I have pretty serious asthma (my lung capacity is so bad I can't blow a breathalyzer test) so I shouldn't really be going outside any more than I absolutely have to. But I've been laying in bed with my new electric blanket and guinea pig sulking over a nasty comment I got on AO3, so the air quality thing isn't really much of an excuse

    23. @Girrl I think if I got a nasty comment on A03 I'd need a guinea pig and an electric blanket too. I spend way too much time thinking up snarky comments that I should have said that are way snappier than what I actually said. Or wrote. The fires were on the news here (I'm in the UK) and they look really bad. Here's hoping there's no more casualties.

I'm actually procrastinating rather than going to bed now. Doesn't help I need to evict one and a half dolls before I can even get into it.

    24. how good i understand you all, at least i did one thing this week - sofa finished, some accessories will wait, is not big deal. now i need to finish dress and shirts for my poor boy. Im not productive those weeks at all, but im trying my best. personal life was horrible expierence, so now i need to sort out so many things, that after i do something im getting tired even when i come back from grocery shop :-(

    25. Yes, I have found it's important to pat myself on the back when I do get something finished :) And Anita, there is no way I can truely understand what happened to you, but I know you have your daughter, and hope you have a lot of loved ones around you who will support you through this. And you have us! PM me any time if you need to talk! RE: your shaky hands, I hope they'll get better, but that is one small thing I can totally empathize with! I can't do anything small, or controlled anymore! LOL. Sometimes I wonder if I could just "let go" and develop a new art form that takes advantage of my shaky hands, LOL.

Anyway, just got a reprieve in chores and hope I can get somewhere with my many projects (not exciting, but organizing and clean up is #1 priority right now)

    26. Oh gosh, there are NO samples of Impldoll UV brown since @UrbanHermit posted a picture of her Azalea posted a while back. I want to choose a wig for my incoming Azalea which a switched to UV-brown after seeing it. I'm trying to choose a wig color right now, but am finding it hard, and wish there were more photos around :(

    27. @IngieBee i just came back to work, all my colegous is so supportive and i have close friends not far from me, so im getting better, hands looks like stoped shaking and my daughter is one of the kindest person around me. Oh, yesturday i cut out shirts and new jacket as that one blue wich is always on pictures little bit to small on the chest side, if shirts would be under jacket maybe it would look better. And at least i spryed first coat of msc of john head, so hope so will start to work on his head slowly. Im getting better, and im really happy that people here supporting me in all ways. I just made an order for new mgb body wich will go on my Aurora, and the mucle body will stay with sally head as im already thinking to make her as Queens bodyguard :-) so i stardet to move on step by step.

    28. Oh that's so good to hear! You're going to be OK, life ain't easy no matter what, but one thing is true, humans are amazingly resilient, and you will be too!

    29. I'm so glad I found this topic on Den of Angels! Just couldn't imagine there are actually so many lovely Martins around! Not too many of them on Flickr either when I looked up, so it's relieving to know this mold is popular.

Mine was a gift event head of about three years ago, but until recently I couldn't find a proper character for him. However, his cheekbones somehow reminded me of Benedict Cumberbatch, so I hoped he would make a convincing Sherlock from TV series.
A week ago we took part in Minsk Unicon Convention.
I'm super proud of myself for being able to sew his Milford coat with these pockets and the lining. *__* That's the most complicated piece of doll clothing I have ever made an effort to finish.
I hope you like him as much as I do.

    30. He looks great and congratulations on the coat!

    31. I know I already requested to see Aigne in dark tanned (and she's adorable in that skintone!), but does anybody have an Iris in dark tanned?

    32. Sorry, I don't have either doll, @Yumeko-chan :(

@Reya Dawnbringer, you did a fantastic job, your Sherlock is right on!

      Edited to make sense, LOL

    33. Damn, he looks awesome @Reya Dawnbringer ! That coat is amazing You even have a 221b background I want my Martin Sherlocked now, lol!

There's a dark tan Iris on Flickr here 05 if that's any help @Yumeko-chan

    34. @Yumeko-chan i think so my iris is in special tan colour ( anti UV) [IMG]

    35. Ahh, I'd forgotten about your Iris! She was your first, wasn't she? And your collection has grown a bit since then!

      • x 1
    36. @rubydoll that's a gorgeous dark brown! I wonder if anyone here can tell us if the dark brown from Iplehouse is as sandable as their other tan dolls? I wonder if the reason why you can sand Impl tan is because they've already been thoroughly sanded in the factory? Yet, that is still a testament to their resin, because it seems like it's without marbling!

      • x 1
    37. @IngieBee that's @Anita2006 's Iris, sadly I don't have any dark tan in my collection (incoming floating head from Resinsoul tho - gambling on being able to afford a body for her at some point!) but I know that my regular tan Star body has a bit of discolouration where his seams were. It's not horrendous tho - and now that I think about it I wonder if the "damage" I caused to Martin's headcap during a sealant removal experiment was actually just a sanding mark that I didn't even notice until I studied it closely :s

    38. Does anyone know if the Luts senior delf clothes would fit the 64cm Star female body with medium bust? I would love to buy some more clothes for my Aurora but it's difficult finding clothes that fit her.

    39. @rubydoll yes, my Iris is first one, since in two years now i ownd 4 bjd dolls, all is impldoll just one hybrid - my King Francis :-) i like impldoll because they have impresive head scoulpts and good price as well, oh my azalea hybrid as well :-) she posing amazingly when i added some cold glue sueding, she stands perfect and holds poses amazing.

      • x 1
    40. Oh gosh yah, I can't wait to have the time to hot glue my clan! Especially Supia DJ and April Story bodies, they drive me nuts. Thankfully Impldoll is pretty stable, and it would only enhance posing, they'll be last to do :P

@Zhaodan Unfortunately, I don't think that will work at all. The luts super senior is still only a 60cm doll, and their bodies are so much smaller, such as their shoulder width etc... I think it would fit the Model body though?

@rubydoll , I can't remember what country you live in, but in the US, Winsor and Newton brush cleaner does an amazing job taking off faceups. I use a soft toothbrush and a little goes a long way. Point only being if you get discoloring from something like a magic eraser, that might help :/ I'm sure I talked about it before... so forgive my repeat!

I gotta admit though, that @Anita2006 's dark tan/brown is gorgeous! I think Vanessa would look lovely in that color!

    41. @Anita2006 you were planning to swap your Aurora head onto a less muscular body - have you decided what head you will choose for the queen's bodyguard?

@IngieBee I'm the same - must get round to sueding but my Impldolls are bottom of the list sadly I'm in the UK and although we can get Winsor and Newton brush cleaner here, it's not the same magic formulation. It's okay for cleaning brushes but even then it's still not as good as my pot of Masters.

      • x 1
    42. @rubydoll sally head will be on muscular body as im waiting new mgb body for Aurora :-) think so to start writing story, just cant decide wich languege would be better - english or my national language :-) but story staying in my head, more in english words :-)

      • x 1
    43. That's really interesting, @Anita2006 . A famous Russian writer who wrote in English, just couldn't capture the magic of his prose in his native language.

    44. Write it in both! You can always translate one way or the other later. It's been so long since I've written anything in another language but I remember how it feels when it actually seems more natural to describe something in your second language than your mother tongue. I'm looking forward to seeing the MGB when you get it

    45. @IngieBee i will write and i will try to make photostory, so i can get more inspiration on details of story :-) @rubydoll i think so body will come early in spring or late in winter :-) long time to wait, but i hope so it is worth waiting, that body looks amazing on posing and so femine and atractive.

    46. Oh @Anita2006, I would love to do photo stories, even one-liners, but I never have time :( I just quick snapshots to post, nothing that I take any real time to do, which is sad because I really want to be able to do that! I also want to try green screen and put my dolls in situations or places that I really couldn't do, LOL. So many fun things you can do with photography! Maybe next summer I can get a camera, that'd be so awesome!

    47. @IngieBee i think so i will try to use photoshop on this way, as i dont have to much backgroundsbut for nature pictures i would like to take out my dolls one time :-) as you said, maybe in summer as now is horrible weather started.

    48. Yes, I just need time! A little equipment wouldn't hurt though! LOL

    49. I hate waiting. I am starting to get really impatient for my Impldoll heads - it wouldn't be so bad but as I've got a body for the old Iris head, I want the new Iris here to claim her body, already, dammit! *sulks*

In the meantime here's my old Iris on his new body wearing some items from a lucky bag which took ages to arrive but was worth the wait as a reminder, mostly to myself, that good things come to those who wait.

[IMG]Lucky Bag Swag by Rubydoll Chaos, on Flickr

I have a real crush on him in that hat. He's so adorable.

      • x 4
    50. @rubydoll, OMG, Yes! He is sooooooo too adorable there!!! LOL, the hat is too cute! I love Iris as a boy!

I'm still bummed not having my Lydia's body, and impldoll seems to be slowing down so much! Why? I'm getting so salty over this extra wait time :(

    51. @IngieBee No shipping notice yet for my MGB either. :( It'd be lucky if my order arrives next month, considering the holiday rush is already slowing the postal service down.

    52. Yah, and I've been too busy or hurt (struggling with tendonitis ATM) to play with my dolls, as it requires moving heavy boxes, and they're also heavy :(

So I'm feeling rather down and missing my dolls / doll time. I want so much to take pictures and see as well. It's frustrating!

    53. I ordered at the end of September so it hasn't been two months yet - I usually ballpark it around three. As soon as they arrive tho I will then be impatient for the Dorisy head's Resinsoul body - which is also on order! I knew I shouldn't have ordered when they had an event on - but if I'd waited I'd still be waiting so.... Sigh.

Iris has such a great mouth - pouty lips but upturned corners - the first time he seemed to be smiling rather than looking sulky was when I put the hat on XD maybe he was just cold, lol.

@IngieBee I came across this video of exercises which help with tendinitis I took notice because my mum suffers with it and therefore it's likely I will too - but I thought it might be useful for anyone here who does mods or faceups and either ends up with achey wrists or can't enjoy doing these things because of pain.

      • x 1
    54. I got excited for a moment at seeing the title of the video as I have tendinitis in my right forearm. I also have severe arthritis in that wrist from breaking my wrist twice (different bones each time *sigh* I have 1 out of 8 that hasn't been broken). The break was not set either time so the bones healed in a way that makes them not function as intended. It also means that I can't do any of those exercises because my wrist won't move like that without a lot of pain (or even at all).

But I had no idea there even were exercise to be done to ease tendinitis. I thought I'd just have to bear with it. This will require more research. I haven't knit anything in literally years because it makes the tendinitis flare up and I really miss knitting. Thanks @rubydoll for pointing this out.

    55. @Iron_Dog yeah, when my mum watched the video she doubted she'd be able to even attempt to do most of them but she said she'd give it a go. I tried them and found it quite uncomfortable so even though I'm not experiencing stiffness or pain now, maybe I should get into the habit of stretching so I don't get problems in the future. I have to admit my hands and arms did hurt after sawing through chunky April Story thighs! Hopefully you'll be able to find something that does work for you - although it's unlikely anyone will have the same wrist physiology (is that the word?!?) (also, ouch!) you might come across some exercises that you can do.

    56. @rubydoll, thanks, will watch! I too didn't realize there was something I could do about it or at least do to prevent it! Thanks again!

    57. It sure can't hurt, eh? :D

    58. Yay, I'm glad it helped now I just need to find some exercises that help when your whole body hurts because you did a four hour karate class. We did get to play with swords so, you know, worth it!!
