IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread Part 11

Mar 2, 2018

    1. I've only been checking DoA on my phone and therefore haven't been commenting (doing the internets on my phone = pure anger)
but @chalyss she is utterly magnificent! Beautiful faceup, it matches perfectly with her clothing!

and I think it was @rubydoll that wig is so wonderful! You could seriously sell wigs. Even the part looks perfect <3

      • x 1
    2. I agree! Rubydoll is rocking the wigs! More, @rubydoll, more!

And thank you my dear! Illydra came together very quickly and easily! <3 She's a peach!

    3. @chalyss She's gorgeous. I love the colours used in her face-up and those eyes look amazing. Don't you love it when a doll just comes together like that?

      • x 1
    4. Yes! It's been rare these days so she was a treat! She even told me her name, and that's not happened in a while!

    5. Whoot! You're on a roll then.

    6. I must be butter!

    7. mmm...butter

    8. Axe throwing... holy crap that sounds like SO MUCH FUN. ;) I tried Archery for the first time last year, and now I'm kind of obsessed with it. There's something so elegant about it (is that weird? is it just me?). Of course, it's also difficult and requires quite a lot of upper body strength (which I am lacking), but still... I love it!

@chalyss: She's beautiful!! I love the blue in her faceup; makes her look rather ethereal. <3

      • x 1
    9. LOL, @Iron_Dog my son, an adult, was throwing his throwing knives on a stump in a field 100 feet from our house, and someone called the cops on him. Stupid neighbors, there is nothing in that field, and throwing knives in a huge field by an adult is perfectly responsible and not even scary looking. I live in a city of idiots.

@chalyss I'm so frustrated, I need some swords and daggers for my D&D characters but can't find swords big enough nor daggers small enough :aeyepop:

Oooh, new girl spam!!! Illydra is beautiful!!! Congratulations!

@napoleonchan same here, I'm mostly so busy all day, i do my DoA visits in one big "End of Day" bang :D

@Mekkisry I remember when I was young, in my early 20's and in school working at an antiques store, and this lovely older lady (younger than I am now, LOL) was so cool. I talked to her about how surprised I was that I enjoyed shooting with my boyfriend (future husband) and she totally understood and put it into words better than I will here, but it's the "finding your zone" the aiming and hitting requires this, I don't know, finding your center and being in the zone. And when you capture that moment, it's super cool. Same for bowling, archery and knife throwing. I've done them all, and love it! On a funny note, I couldn't hit targets with the outline of a person on them, I just want round targets, LOL. I'm a bit of a whimp :P But threaten my kids, and I know you or I will be dead :D

    10. @IngieBee: I absolutely know what you're talking about! There's something strangely calming about aiming/shooting, and I enjoy that level of concentration. I've dealt with a chronic, life-long anxiety/panic disorder (I was finally, formally, diagnosed at 14), and I've always felt like I needed to have something that grounds me. My Dad, bless him, he taught me to shoot (guns; I realize this is an incredibly controversial subject and I am NOT wishing to start anything) at a very early age. That's something I've kept up with over the years, as it's easy for me to feel entirely vulnerable. I'm very short/small and not at all intimidating, but I will absolutely go down fighting, if it came to it. And, as you said, if anyone threatens my family... oh yeah, it's ON. :XD:

(Also, ladies, if we're planning the zombie apocalypse... I really am a pretty good shot. I'll also happily keep everyone warm and cozy with my handcrafts. So, don't forget me? LOL!)

      ..........

Question? Does IMPL normally do any sort of Summer event? I'm definitely planning to order my Nicolas a body, but I'm curious if there's anything upcoming.

    11. Will definitely find you and drag you to our compound in the desert somewhere with electrically wired fences, LOL.

    12. @Mekkisry, you are on the list of 'to save for zombie Apocalypse' definitely! I am probably the least useful here, but I can sew buttons and be mildly entertaining! huh? That's useful, right? Plus, yes, I think they usually do... but consider clover-singing when one happens as they honor all the deals and events and FREE SHIPPING! (and Illydra thanks you!)

@IngieBee, thank you!!! She was a gift from Fishcake and I am just soooo in love! Just got in a dress I wanna try her in too! As for weapons, you CAN try ebay for letter openers and sets like mini Scorpion King swords (I have a pair and Elektra's sais are in scale). If you know the size you want, you can weed out what won't work. Also, try AngellStudio for weapons, and Ringdoll, and take a peek on DollLegend.net. Ringdoll and Angellstudio sell a lot of their accessories and weapons on the side. PLUS if clover-singing carries the brand (and they do, to both) they can order anything that those sites sell (just send the link with an email asking about it) and you get the shipping free!

    13. Thank you for all those locations to check out! I could only think of eBay!

      • x 1
    14. Oleander needs some weapons and I hadn't thought about ebay. Just checked and OMG! that scorpion king sword set is awesome! Super good price, too. Oleander would so use those. If Mkhai doesn't grab them first. I think there might be multiple purchases of this item. Why are you guys making my wallet cry like this? And if Jerryama has similar props and I do lose my mind and buy the doll I'm eyeballing.... *groans*.

Hey, with you guys who throw/have thrown, what's your take on my handiness? I am right-handed but when using a bow, I draw left-handed as my sight is much better in my left eye. I'm a decent shot (or was many, many moons ago) but if I try to do much of anything else with my left it is generally a whole lot of fail. Thoughts?

    15. Eeee! LEGENDDOLL.NET! I made a mistake, sorry! (really a cool site!)

Tank head on DZ body, both in tan, with Scorpion King sword!

I painted the gold parts, if memory serves. Just gold enamel model paint.

    16. Mmmkay, so I'm popping in here to this (really fun) thread quickly to ask about a hybrid. I've got a Delia head on the way and from scanning past posts here I'm guessing she'd look best on the Star female body. However! I also want some other options that aren't Dollshe (I'm not keen on their female bodies). What else have people tried? If I go with aesthetics, I'm looking for curves. If not, I'd be open to bodies with good poseability.

    17. Well I don't have a Delia head anymore, but I have a bunch of other Impl heads and bigger bodies. I can show you a Narissa head on a 5Star Doll superstar body:

Not all the Impl heads are the same size but I think Delia is about the same as Narissa.
      here it is nude:

    18. I do karate which would just be a fast track to getting bit but I'm not bad with a bow or an air rifle. However I don't own either of those weapons. But I do have a jo staff which could be pretty effective with the bonus that it's basically a stick so if I have access to a broom or a mop I can be armed. I'm not aggressive at all though, I feel the best way to win a fight is to not get into it in the first place but I love weapons and well staged fights. I did fencing for a while too but I mostly just liked hitting my opponent's sword and resisting the urge to declare "ah, you are using Bonetti's defence against me!" I've just ordered a letter opener sword which should have arrived by now - the post is so slow right now! We'll see who claims it.

I finished another wig but it's for an off-topic head. There's nothing wrong with it but I'm not keen on it for the head it was made for. I can't even put my finger on what I don't like. The problem with hard wig caps is that they don't fit a wide range of heads. Luckily the latest wig does fit the doll I made my first yarn wig for, so maybe I will use it as his second wig. I want to take a pic of the four wigs I've made so far so I could do that tomorrow instead of stressing over getting a new car which apparently is my new hobby. I need to make a decision because I need the headspace that stress is occupying for other things - like actually functioning as a human being XP

Illydra is awesome and so is Tank with his Scorpion King sword! I've seen Illydra's staff though so I think I'd put my money on her... XD

      • x 1
    19. (*thinks Rubydoll is mucho awesome sauce and replies, "I thought it fitting considering the rocky terrain."*)

edit: (*started thinking about who'd win between Illydra and Rajim* Now I have this whole scenario playing out in my head, comic-book style. I really wanna draw her!)

    20. LOL, I will agree with @A Wee Tiefling that this is a fun thread! As far as bodies go...first, I'd like to say I really like the imple Star and probably Idol body (when mine arrives). But, surprisingly, my human Narissa is on an old Delf body! Only 58 cm tall, and I think it looks good. I got the head as a surprise, and the delf body was far too yellow for the head I intended for it, but weirdly the Narissa head was close enough in color for me to be happy. I'm not a perfectionist though, so you'll have to be the judge :)

      HumanNarissa

I need to do more pictures of her...

    21. Hooray, I feel useful! *giggle* We'd all make an interesting bunch of zombie fighters, for certain. :XD:

@Iron_Dog: If you can successfully draw & shoot a bow with your non-dominant hand, I say go for at least attempting to throw with it. I'm trying to picture the amount of havoc I'd wreak on myself if I tried to shoot with my left hand. To be honest, it'd probably be hilarious. Admittedly, during my first Archery lesson, I ended up making the instructor laugh his ass off. I was nervous (probably overly so), and on my first draw... well, instead of just letting go of the string (as you should), I somehow ended up yanking my hand back and basically smacking myself in the face. Truly not a shining moment, but the instructor's laughing (which ended up making me laugh) definitely broke up a lot of the tension, and thankfully, I've NOT had a repeat of that experience. :sweat (On a side note: I honestly didn't mind him laughing. It was funny, as my immediate reaction was to basically blurt out "what the f**k?!" rather loudly.)

LOL, @rubydoll, your mention of using a broom or mop as a weapon makes me think of Dead Rising. Me & a friend used to goof off constantly with those games; riding around on tricycles and beating on zombies with pool cues, guitars, traffic cones, ridiculously-proportioned adult toys (*snort*), whatever. Basically anything we could grab. One of my favorite moments was having my character run around in that terrible Borat "swimsuit", wearing a giant Moose head, and plowing through a bunch of zombies head-first. I should probably be ashamed of myself for laughing so hard at all of that, but... I blame the game devs.

    24. Hey that head looks good on the Idol body! Congrats! Just swipe some peach pastel on his cheekbones, forehead and chin and he'd match pretty easily, I think. No need to remove the existing face up, just a layer of sealant if that. NICE hybrid!

    25. @chalyss thanks for advice i will look how he looks with clothes as im could say new on hobby and with blushing sealants and face ups i think so im not ready for now, making clothes this i can do easy, i need to make his body possing better, somehow hands not working perfect :-( but i will try to make him possing better on that point :-) and will make clothes that he would be really looking like king :-)

      • x 1
    26. In the first picture, I thought he matched really well, and thought you were overly picky, but then the other pictures showed the difference :) (Might be my monitor, LOL) Anyway, I bet Chalyss is right about adding a touch of color, and you'll have him spot on :) I love the look though, that body works perfectly! Ugh, I know I have a while to wait but I really wish my doll bodies would ship!

    27. @chalyss I would as soon destroy a stained glass window as an artist like yourself but since I can't have you follow me either *thud* as for drawing the fight - do it! Do it! :D

@IngieBee you got Narissa on a 58cm body? Shh, I don't need to know things like that! I need to believe all those pretty new heads are far too big for my small SDs so I steer clear of temptation! XD

@Mekkisry LMAO I'm a wuss when playing survival horror games but if I were laughing my butt off I might make it through XD Although a moose-headed creature in a mankini might just provoke really, really weird nightmares XD I love the idea that anything can be a weapon - I did once try to convince Jill Valentine to just tie some plastic chairs to herself as body armour but she wasn't having it XD

@Anita2006 the match doesn't look too bad depending on the light so I think what chalyss said would work well. The good thing with pastel is if you don't like it you can just rinse it off. You can get a cheap set from The Works but they may not necessarily have the colour you need. Art shops sell them individually but they're pricier and watch out because sometimes they put them with the oil pastels - I nearly got caught out last time!

Back on the subject of weapons my letter opener sword finally arrived! I think Finn is gonna get to keep it cos it's kinda short, just like him! And hanging out with him are the wearers of my first yarn wig and my latest one. I don't love the black wig on the doll it was made for - somehow he looks less cute in it than his old fibre wig. I finally put a deposit down on a car so I can hopefully stop fretting about that and focus on fun things like what wig to make next. Because yarn is cheap and I'm going to need to watch my pennies for a while XP

    28. @rubydoll I really like those wigs! The sword looks so red in the picture, did Find already stab someone with it? LOL

    29. Oh my gosh, I didn't notice because the email landed in the junk folder :doh but my IMpldoll Nicolas's FGB wash shipped!!!!!! Not only that but my eyes have registered in the USPS and should arrive, I hope, tomorrow! Yippppppeeeeeee!!!!

      • x 1
    30. @IngieBee lolol maybe! I'm not sure what the sword was reflecting - my curtains are purple! I'm trying to decide who is going to get my next wig - I have a couple of nice colours I want to try out but I need to decide who will suit them. Or figure out who has the most generic shaped head so I can swap. Aigne can wear the wig I made for Tdelia but I haven't swapped it around further than that! Yay for the eyes and body *dances*

    31. @rubydoll I take it that you don't make a stretchy wig, but a fitted one?? Do you use the glue/hard cap method? I have several wigs I am supposed to make, LOL. I'm so afraid still, ugh!

    32. Yeah I've seen tutorials where people crochet a wig cap then attach the yarn strand by strand but that's a bit labour intensive for me! I learned everything I know from Mozekyto on YouTube - she does Monster High wigs but anything that works on a smaller, fiddlier scale is good for SD BJD ;) what sort of wigs are you planning? The plus side is that if you go wrong it's easier to fix than if you're modifying a probably expensive wig you had to wait weeks for.

      • x 1
    33. I've used Mod Podge this time round but previously I've made the wig cap with fabric glue - basically a washable PVA. Tutorials are great because it's a good idea to think about the style you're going to make before you dive in so you don't end up with hair in the wrong places!

In other news, the April Story body I ordered for my Iris head finally shipped! Woohoo! I better finish her wig! ;)

      • x 1
    34. I used Mod Podge on a fitted hard cap for my latest wig with brushed yarn, which was for my Bernice. I've previously used white glue from the dollar store with feathers and once with fake fur, wefts sewn onto a soft stretchy cap, and wefts sewn onto a hard fitted cap. The next one will be strands sewn into a hard cap. So many ways to make wigs!

Here's my Bernice with her brushed yarn wig:

      • x 2
    35. @UrbanHermit lol it's like wig making bingo! Can I count fibre wefts sewn onto stretchy wig cap even tho the project is abandoned cos I sewed the wefts on in a way that it will barely stretch to fit my smallest head?? Bernice looks great! You got a good length! Strands sewn into a wig cap can give some versatile styles.

I think I need to cut some strands of my current wool stash to take with me when I go shopping so I know what colours I do and don't have. My memory alone only extends so far as "brown" and "light brown".

    36. Ooops, If you use Fabritac, you should use Glad Wrap or Handi Wrap, NOT Saran wrap!,

    37. @chalyss if you dont mind and have time could you show me even some simple tutorial from any web or any link how i could do that without damaging his face up ? i would really want to try to match colour of the body as i really like how he looks. very interesting face :-) could say atractive :-)

    38. @Anita2006, Yes! I'll try to find a doll of my own to do it on. I have done it in the past myself. The most you'd have to do afterwards, after a light layer of sealant, is maybe regloss the parts you want a bit shinier. He doesn't have upper lashes, real lashes, does he? That makes it so much easier because those can be hard to cover from the sealant... but I have managed that too. I am the queen of lazy shortcuts. *L*

    39. @rubydoll I mostly need decent looking wigs for my boys but don't want to spend a fortune on them because... I could get more dollies with that money! LOL. I also want to learn the skill :D Congratulations on the April Story body! I did end up getting an Aurora head (not sure if I mentioned that before??) anyway, I got her in the resin I ordered for the bodies to my Fairyland heads. I love the Impl heads and bodies, but will have 3 girl bodies soon and am hoping Aurora's head will look nice on a Supiadoll 65 body??!! I sure hope it will work out, because I really do like my Rosy's body

@nancy_schroeder_ca yes, I should, I also forgot to say I'm lazy, LOL, and I can make a thousand excuses, like I don't have time, but I simply have to make time!! BTW, what is the difference between Glad Wrap or Handi Wrap and Saran wrap? Isn't Saran the stuff they make some wigs out of?

That really does look great, @UrbanHermit ! I really love Bernice's leather top, nice!

@Anita2006 The hardest thing to do is to make the body match the head because the body is so easy to chip, then it starts to look run down and messed up. The other problem is trying to match dark resin with lighter. It can be easier if the tint is nearly the same, and blushing with white. But blushing the head a little darker could work like Chalyss says??!!! I sure hope it works out if you try it :D

    40. @chalyss yes he dont have lashes :-) i would really want to try this and make his head more matched for body, but dont want to damage his face up as well :-) you would be really helpfull if you could do short tutorial of that :-)

      • x 1
    41. @IngieBee i will try to blush his head little bit darker, just need tutorial how to do that :-) i never did any face ups or something like blushing so i need to know how to do this :-) sounds silly but im just one year in hobby and learning about bjd step by step. and always nice when i can get advice and tutorials from you all guys.

    42. Anita, be careful and practice. Maybe use his head cap and use the best pastels, like Rembrandt, because they all act differently. Use a soft sheep's foot brush, a rather big one. What you don't want is a pastel that acts like water color which I got once. It will find a larger speck and when you seal the layer and make it bleed!!! Practice, you want an even layer, see how the sealant goes on. Get Windsor/Newton brush cleaner so you can wipe off and try again.

You can also contact AngelToast and ask her if she would match the resin for you, then send her the head and maybe a foot.

Or just leave it as his costume will cover. I say this because you really like how he looks now, everything else is risky.

Not trying to scare you, but if you are not experienced, and things get blotchy I don't want you regretting the choice :). Yet it's fun to customize and learn to do and mod faceups, so I don't want to discourage you :whee:

Anyways I am shocked my body is already at customs! I guess I'm so busy and saw the shipping notice a day late, that time is flying! My eyes should arrive today as well! I can't wait to put Nicolas together!!!

    43. first i will try on spear head wich i buyed just for practice and for wig making :-) thanks @IngieBee for advice :-) i will try first on the practice head as its pretty in bright colour :-) and if i will be happy i will try to blush his face with some pastels :-)

    44. Sounds like a plan! :thumbup

And I am a senile silly woman, LOL, it's not the tracking for my boy's body that is in customs, just something else, LOL. At least the body is supposed to be on it's way, just no service is tracking it!

    45. @IngieBee, I am told Saran Wrap does not work well with Fabri-tac, I think it sticks to the Saran wrap. Other glues are probably fine with Saran wrap.

Did you order the body through Clover-Singing?

    46. Yes, LOL, but it hasn't shown up on tracking yet. It may not, as the free shipping may not be EMS so .... I just had some eyes shipped out that took almost a month (about 25 days to get here) from China. We don't know if it's just that slow, or if the trade with China issues are causing delays??? So my body may take a long time to get here :(

    47. Clover-Singing ships every thing to a distribution center on the east coast and they send the packages by Priority Mail.

use this site: YANWEN-Track & trace

Enter the EMS number and hit search. You will get a line like this:

      YE112601481CN-[20170500-2]-9400110200793564325056

The number on the right is the Priority Mail number.

    48. Hey guys, has anyone tried to access impldoll's website? Seems like it isn't there anymore.

    49. I get it, but there is an error in the SQL so I only get the banner.

    50. Oh good, I'm not the only one having trouble with their site.

Has anyone requested a custom resin color from them recently? I was pondering an Elf Azalea in a pale purple/lilac color and wondering how hard it would be to accomplish.

    51. Oooooohhhh Good freakin info, @nancy_schroeder_ca !!! Lemme see.... Oh my gosh, it may show up tommorrow!!! It's at the distribution center 30 miles from home :D Yaaaaaaayyyyyyyy!!! Thank You!!! I now know another secret LOL!!!

    52. (Ooof, I've been away from this thread-and this site-for a few days!)

@IngieBee: Congrats on the incoming body for your Nicolas!!! I can't wait to see him all together and styled and such. He's going to be so lovely. *nodnod*

@Anita2006: Blushing is fun! I think once you try it, you'll really enjoy it. Think of it like... putting on makeup. Contouring. That's one of the things I genuinely like about doing faceups, especially in comparison to the things that need a steady hand & precision. Good luck with getting your character the way you want him! :)

      ..........

As for the IMPL site, I've also been having some odd issues with it lately. When I try to go there, I'll get some sort of error message (a long string of numbers/letters?), but if I immediately refresh the page, it works fine. Not sure what's going on with them, but I hope they get it sorted out soon.

Now, for something completely off-topic. Has anyone ever seen a Giant Whip Scorpion? They're pretty common in my neck of the woods, and I just found one in my kitchen. It was definitely a juvenile, and it was honestly kind of cute. Granted, I like insects/arachnids (especially arachnids), so coming across such things doesn't bother me. I scooped it up and put it out on my back patio, and I do hope the poor little thing finds a nice place to go. They're harmless, really. I had a big, big guy in my garage recently; again, scooped it up and took it out into the yard. They don't deserve to die!

Eh, okay, maybe I'm just a weirdo. I spent most of last Friday hiking around half a mile underground, in a gigantic cave system. These things just seem to happen? *snort*

    53. Actually, I love taking photos of spiders, LOL. I only have my phone, but once in a while I get a beautiful clear picture and it makes me so happy, LOL. I got an orb Weaver really well just yesterday :)

    54. @IngieBee: Orb Weavers are beautiful!! I adore spiders in general. I've happily handled Tarantulas, and I just love them to bits. They're so fluffy and cute! We definitely have them around here (Desert Blonde), but they're shy and don't come out often. I think if I were going to have any pet, at this point, it would be a Tarantula. They're gorgeous. <3

    55. Oh wow, I didn't even know they came that color! Ours are mostly black / dark brown :D Yes, they are amazing animals. However, I don't know much about insects, I just think they're amazing, and to capture one on my cellphone camera is such a challenge, LOL. Spiders, I don't know, my husband and I can't kill them. LOL, I think we're related to the Adamms family :doh

    56. Aren't they beautiful? ;) I definitely can't kill spiders, either! It's funny, little ones will sometimes end up making a home for themselves in my shower, and... well, needless to say, I have showered with many a random spider. LOL! I don't understand why so many people are so ungodly terrified of them; they're amazing! If you leave them alone, they'll happily leave you alone. Even Black Widows, Brown Recluse, etc. They just want to live their lives, and I am very happy to let them do so. Poor little critters, so misunderstood. :(

    57. I don't know what my cling film is made of - it's in a dispenser so the original packaging is long gone, but it doesn't peel off mod podge easily. However the upshot of this is that the wig ends up lined with cling film which loves to stick to itself so simply wrapping the headcap in cling film too means the wig stays put beautifully!

My April Story body for Iris is in the UK! And the details in the tracking app say guaranteed delivery by the 26th! I fixed up Sereniel's wig so it's good enough for now but Heilan is still sporting a male pattern baldness wig because I've been too busy playing with yarn to fight with curls. He might get the long wig back for a bit!

    59. I don't mind spiders and I try not to kill them. I found out that I can't really handle tarantulas though. Their hair irritates my skin and I get hives from them. The palms of my hands are usually okay but it they walk over/touch the backs of my hands or my forearms, its hive city. But I also get that from horses, cows, sheep, goats.... I can't sit on the grass with the backs of my thighs touching it either or I'll get hives *sigh*. allergies suck.
