IMPL dolls Star, Model and Idol Discussion thread 15

Dec 23, 2020

    1. @Havra thanks! Her sandals were made by katushka_nitok and her outfit is from Dollremi. I’m playing Nia in D&D now and am contemplating modding her doll form’s ears to match her current incarnation as an elf.

Speaking of elves, my Azalea who has been in shipping limbo since early November finally made it home!

    2. yayyyy secondary market! I've got a Garza and Aurora head on the way-- both I'll probably mod; Garza so he has less of a furrowed brow, and Aurora so her eyes are smaller and she looks more realistic overall. I also am weirdly tempted to "cut off their faces", so to speak, and make them new headbacks so they're both faceplate-style heads because I feel like that looks better and is easier to work with in the long run. but we'll see.

I'm getting so tempted by Dabria too, but I'm trying to slow down on my buying spree :dance

also Impldoll is one of the only companies I know of that offers 70cm female bodies at all-- let alone at a price I may one day actually be able to afford. I know Miracle Doll, Dollmore, and Doll Family-A all have ~68cm female bodies, but none are as inexpensive as Impldoll's, and I've heard better things about Impl's posing than I have about Dollmore's; the next least-expensive 68cm female body that I know of. Aesthetically, Impl has very nice bodies too. they're not as realistic as, say, an Amadiz Angels body, but they're generally visually pleasant anatomically speaking. So it's nice that I'll probably be able to get these floating heads some impl bodies down the line too, instead of having to try and hybrid.

    3. and unlike with Amadiz, you'll actually get what you paid for

    4. my Garza arrived!! he's AMAZING. and much better in person than in photos-- he just doesn't seem to photograph well, poor guy :( but he's so beautiful. I'm so happy; I love him. perfect first SD for me!

his lips are my favorite feature, followed closely by his gorgeous cheekbones. Impldoll really is good at those two features.

now I impatiently await my beautiful Aurora...

Aurora came. I think her and Garza look nice together. I definitely prefer him to her though, which surprised me because I feel like she looked better in her promo photos than he did. once my apoxie sculpt arrives I'll mod them both into how I want them to look :) they're lovely dolls for sure.

Garza is in Impldoll's new real skin, which is super pale, and Aurora is in pink skin, I think. her CoA doesn't say her resin tone on it unfortunately.

    6. Oh my gosh, since November? Well, thank goodness she made it! Congratulations!

Oh man that's the first owner pic I've seen of Garza! I still need him some day @mohnblumendolls , congrats on him and Aurora, I have her too :love

    7. @mohnblumendolls

They do look great together! I'm curious to see your mods. I have a an Aurora and she wears the hell out of a faceup. You'll love her when you've worked on her.

    8. I have the strangest Aurora. Her cheek bones are so strong, I thought for sure she'd be a dominating woman, but then I put freckles on her and she became something entirely different! I've left her that way because I think she's so unusual that way:
[IMG]Impldoll Aurora by ingiebee, on Flickr

I think it's also where I put the blush, gives her a totally different look. Unfortunately, I'm not a great artist or anything, LOL I think her jaw looks a bit like jowls the way I painted her!

    9. wow, she is SO gorgeous!!!

    10. Howdy, everyone! I know I haven't posted here for in a while (Real Life stuff prevented me from tinkering too much with the dolls) so I'd have to do a lot of backreading.

Anyhoo, I quite missed taking photos of the dolls, especially since a major member of the crew had gotten reshelled from head to toe. It still hits me that a height difference of 10cm is quite a lot when you're a BJD, but thankfully, the Impldoll MGB doesn't look too bad when paired with Granado's hulking 75Adagio. Adhara, on the right, is actually balancing on her heeled feet (give-or-take, she's probably 66cm in the photo). With the right heels, she could hit 69cm, nicely to-scale with reshelled Guórén.

    11. I love their height difference! But then I'm a little biased, since that's around the height difference I've got in multiple resin couples (and between the Hus and myself, lol)

      • x 4
    12. I think they look really good together. I have multiple significant height differences in couples.
      Moswen/Kijika: 46cm/57cm
      Tohan/Dakvir: 40cm/46cm
      Kulfi/Rhyia/Akusuo: 58cm/66cm/69cm
      Fei-Lau/Sleet/Khale: 69cm/30cm/69cm

      • x 2
    13. @Girrl Hubby and I also have a comparable height diff, except we don't have the vah-vah-voom bodies the dolls possess. :XD:

@Iron_Dog That's really interesting, thank you for sharing! Glad to know I'm not the only one who have dolls whose companions are of drastically different heights. :love

(Adhara and Guórén are actually two of a triad, and the third member is at 59cm -- I'd really like the last one to be reshelled into a slightly taller doll eventually.)

      • x 4
    14. @AntarelNefertili I seem to have a bit of a thing for large height differences in my characters. I try to get as close as I can with the dolls but sometimes I have to settle for close enough.

Moswen is 6' tall while Kijika is 6'-9". Tohan is 5'-10" and Dakvir is 6'-6". Kulfi is 5'-4", Rhyia is 6' and Akusuo is 6'-1" (I think I have an incorrect measurement for Rhyia when he's wearing his default bird feet as him and Akusuo are almost the same height; Soom Euclase & Dollshe Hound). Fei-Lau and Khale are 6' and Sleet is 3'. I think I did decently well in matching their doll heights to their character heights.

    15. got my Crystal head today and i'm happy to say she's just as cute in person and just as perfect for the character i want to make with her as i hoped she would be from looking at the sales pics on Impl's website. i was a little nervous because dolls can sometimes turn out to look somewhat different in person, and Crystal is incredibly hard to find any pics of other than Impl's. but she's great, her little fangs are super cute and so are her half-pointed ears :love
      [IMG]
it'll probably be a little while before i manage to get her a body, but once i do Crystal will no longer be a hard Impl sculpt to find owner pics of :XD:

      • x 12
    16. They sent me a full head when I asked for a sample of brown and I have no clue what sculpt he is, but he's real cute.

Possibly Claude? I can't find a blank picture of him though.

I knew I was getting the Plaice head, but seeing two heads in the box was a pleasant surprise.

      • x 7
    17. Malachite has arrived home!!!! The green colour is perfect and matches exactly the physical sample I sent them. They also included a head puller and an outfit for him. He suffered a chip in the right wrist during shipping and I have no idea where the chip is/went (I saw the chip wrist before I removed him from the box). I thoroughly searched the shipper and inner box and it's like it vanished/never was there. I notified Impl about it but I don't know what could be done as he's a custom green and matching that with a new part would likely be difficult.

Oddly, his body is different than the other 2 Ziv's I received. This version of the Model body has single jointed knees and no thigh mobility joint. He may also be a teeny bit shorter (maybe 0.5cm-1cm) than the other Ziv's but I haven't measured them to say for sure.

I had purchased a mohair wig for him ages ago (before the first wrong colour Ziv arrived in January 2020) and naturally he really didn't like it when I tried it on him *sigh*. I kind of thought he wouldn't and had picked out another wig for him but held off on ordering it. I dug through my wig stash and tried various wigs on him (and received multiple death glares). I popped an ivory Monique 7/8 on him just for giggles (I never pictured him with that colour hair. Ever.) and wouldn't you know, it went on like butter and he likes it.

I'm not sure what to do wig wise as ivory hair was not a look I planned for him. Like at all. I'm not a fan of blond hair in real life or with my dolls/characters (I often make a bad guy in my novels a blond because I generally dislike it that much) but he's rather pleased with this wig contrary to what I planned for him. I tried a black wig on him (the one I was going to buy is black and teal) and he looked a rather peeved.

Pictures will eventually come but I need to go digging for his clothes, which are currently sectioned off behind a 5' tall wall of boxes that we're slowly unpacking.

      • x 12
    18. All I can say is congratulations!
As far as blond/blondes, I feel the same but because my characters are Korean and many are kpop boys, they often demand blond wigs. So I have a collection now. Yesterday I put together a tan hybrid and she wanted the most flamboyant blonde wig of all with curls galore. Not at all the plan. But I will only tolerate this whim now and then!

    19. @Mahgiep Thanks! I heard back from Impl and they said getting a replacement part may not be possible because he is a custom colour. I'd more or less assumed that but wanted to let them know about the shipping damage as a courtesy. They said they'd ask the casting place though.

I don't often bow to the whims of the dolls. But sometimes it just seems unavoidable. There were a couple of wigs that he tolerated but they were also very obviously not him (and they're lovely wigs, too). I can't complain too hard about the ivory wig as it is lovely and insanely soft and wonderfully compliments his dark green resin. I don't want to deal with a sulky doll either so....

      • x 3
    20. It looks to me like he's chosen and you'll just have to deal with the ivory xD Might as well get used to it lol

    21. Yeah, it's possible I may just have to deal with him having a hair colour I never intended for him to have. He does look good in it and it does mean I don't need to open my wallet to buy him a wig (which my wallet appreciates hugely).

    22. Oh wow, another Crystal! I didn't know anyone else with a Crystal, until now :D ! Here is mine:

She has different eyes now, but I love her sculpture! I should try re-painting her :celebrate

      • x 3
    23. Oh my gosh, the day finally came! I can't wait for pictures! Have you tried a greenish blue wig? Sounds like it'd be a lovely color for him? But I don't know what he's like IRL :D

@Leader of the Rats , congratulations. I wonder what their brown is like now too. I have an old brown head I need a body for and an old real skin (dark) head that needs a body. It's so hard to take a chance and order anymore :( But I love my Plaice, and he needs more photos taken of him :D Could your bonus head be Atwood?

      • x 1
    24. @Iron_Dog : Congratulations!!!! Finally!!! (Even if it's with some snags.) I can't wait for you to share him with us!

@IngieBee : I would not recommend trying to match the new realskin with the old. Its intended to match normal Luts, Longsoul, and the like. It's pretty close to Resinsoul normal in tone, just not as pink.

I have an entire army of Impldoll now, lol! And wanna show them off, but they totally need faceups. And clothes. Definitely clothes, lol.

      • x 2
    25. pfffft. clothing is overrated

      • x 1
    26. @IngieBee I'm very pleased with the green colour. He is the same green as a malachite stone (I matched the paint chip to a malachite stone I have), which was what I wanted since he was born from a geode of malachite. I need to dig out my camera since I put it someplace safe because of all the boxes now filling in my apartment with the stuff from my brother's place.

I did get adventurous and managed to get the outfit I'd bought for him from Luts from my doll clothes bins. I put eyes in his head, too, but they're just placeholders as I've had an Idea for a pair I'd like to make him that will hopefully somewhat mimic the green and black banding of malachite stones. But all my eye making materials are packed away as well and while reasonably accessible, I need to crawl under the kitchen table to get at the box. Malachite is going to be getting a slight eye opening mod to make his eyes half-lidded.

For the wig.... He looks ridiculously good in the ivory/white blond wig and he seems quite pleased with himself in it. It compliments his dark green colouring very nicely. It wasn't a colour I thought about at all but it might be what he gets because he likes it a lot and I don't want him to kill me in my sleep for changing it to something else. I might still buy the other wig because, let's be honest here, it's pretty much a certainty that I will get more dolls and it likely won't go unused (or at least that's the justification I'm telling myself).

    27. @Iron_Dog
I've been so invested in the Malachite/Kulfi saga this made me squee with delight. I LOVE dark fantasy resins and green is one of the rarest ones. I guess people don't like green resin that much.

      @thedarkeststar13
I'm excited to see your Crystal. She's a sculpt I have a huge thing for the old Star and Model sculpts. I was so bummed out when they discontinued the really old sculpts, they were so endearing and unique/quirky.

@Leader of the Rats Lucky you! That brown looks close or MYOU or Luts RSB. It'll be fun to see what he becomes. (I think Ingie is right and its an Atwood. The eye crease is very particular)
      -
I WAS planning to get more pictures of Max for Leo season but I forgot how effin heavy the Idolman body is so I said "See ya, Divo" and he's back to sitting on the shelf. One day soon I'll get pics of him. He's so pretty and so lorge. So very lorge.

    28. @A Wee Tiefling It has been a saga, hasn't it? I'm hopeful that I can get some pics of him later today but I'll need to see how my day pans out as today is a cleaning day. I'm still undecided about his wig situation. Roughly $75CAN is a lot (to my wallet) for a wig that he may reject and that will end up sitting in my wig bag for who knows how long. I mean, I'll more than likely end up with another doll that'll wear it if he refuses it because resin addiction but still.

    29. I just heard back from Impl regarding the change in the legs of the Model body. They confirmed that the Model body now only comes with single jointed knees and no mobility thigh joint. They said they're renewing several of their bodies. I have not heard yet if a replacement part for his forearm is going to be possible due to him being a custom colour. I don't have much hope for that but there is a tiny kernel of hope that it could happen.

I want to state that the single jointed knees and omission of the mobility thigh absolutely DOES NOT affect his ability to stand well. He is a rock. I plonk him down, maybe adjust his feet a little and bam! he's standing there like he can do it all day long. He's strung tightly so that probably helps, too. The single jointed knee and lack of a mobility thigh doesn't bother me as I have several dolls with all single joints and most don't have a mobility thigh.

      • x 1
    30. Gosh, that's a bummer that they're simplifying the model body. I've been wanting to get some more bodies for floating heads, but frankly, I'm worried what I'll get :(

    31. The change is very recent as the previous Ziv (the 2nd wrong one delivered in Jan. 2022) had the double knee joints and mobility thigh. If you're concerned @IngieBee email them and ask about any changes that may have been made to the bodies you're interested in. It rarely hurts to ask if you're unsure of something or want clarification.

      • x 1
    32. @Iron_Dog , what I'm concerned about are the star bodies. I don't like what they did with the MGB, and I fear they will mess with the star without warning :pout:

    33. @IngieBee This was the exact response to my asking about the leg change for the Model body:

Now we only offer the single jointed knees.Because we want to renew our bodies.^^New 65cm men's body and other type of body.

If you have concerns about changes you may not like/won't fit your aesthetic def email them to ask. I've found them to be very helpful and responsive over this whole saga to get Malachite in the correct green.

    34. Yah, still trying to save money, so it'll still be a while :(

    35. okay, but why go backwards in engineering? I'm seeing those fugly arm/leg cut joints from dollmakers who used to do the peanut knee and elbow joints and the cut arm/leg joints just look and pose so much worse than what they used to offer I don't see the point. Unless it costs less, which it probably does in labor alone, but if I'm paying the same amount (or more) for the finished doll, there's no incentive for me to plunk down my cash

      • x 4
    36. Not sure why they decided to go backwards with the jointing. Doesn't make sense to me. If they were looking to ditch certain joints for cost cutting purposes I'd have preferred they got rid of the bicep joint instead of the mobility thigh. I dislike the bicep joint for aesthetics and never use it. I could maybe see switching to single joints in the knees if knee stability was a problem (I'm looking at you Orient Doll with your Collapse O-matic knees), but it wasn't. Or at least I've never had a problem with Kulfi's knees.

@IngieBee Saving money.... I get where you're coming from. I need to order Qayin's body (RS Mu) but there's always something that pops up on the 2nd hand market that ends up shoving his body further down the line. Although, now that Malachite is home perhaps I'll be stronger against temptation and actually get Qayin his body so that thruple will finally be complete.

      • x 2
    37. Yeah the bicep joint is the whole reason I ended up getting free heads, they're taking forever to fix my order cuz I ordered without and they sent me with it and I hate how it looks. I'm thinking about getting a body in brown now though instead of the tan I got. It'll be easier to dye-match the dollclans head to the brown and it matches the character better anyway.

I'm not so sure about it being Atwood, the eye shape doesn't match up. Its a very specific shape.

    38. It's really nice that Malachite is finally home! I bought an expensive Fairyland doll 3x this year and last. This really wiped me out. I have been making payments for over a year now, so I will still need time to recover. I'm a bit of a sucker for certain dolls. They were expensive even so I didn't buy full sets, especially compared to Impldoll. I used to think Impldolls were almost as nice as CP/FL, especially in the posing department. I'll be super sad if, when I'm ready, I can't get what I want body wise :(

Gosh, I need to take some nice pictures of Crystal, she deserves it!

    39. the CP/FL dolls I have are absolute crap when it comes to posing. The minifees fare slightly better on that scale than the F65, in that they can actually sit, but I always side-eye people who gush about FL's "superior posing/engineering" because it's "superior" to what, Barbie?
Impldoll's sculpts are just as nice as FL's (or nicer, in that they don't all Look The Same), and, unlike CP/FL, I've yet to see Impldoll blatantly steal other artists' IP

      • x 6
    40. Welp, after reading through much of the many years of posts to this thread, I decided to get an IMPLdoll Vanessa!

      • x 5
    41. @Girrl
I love that Impldoll has some kind of growth and process for their face sculpting. I can see the line from Tank to Tony to Patrick in terms of detail and expression etc. But also it's so weird they went backwards in engineering.

@Valdemagra An excellent choice for a doll, she's got such character

      • x 3
    42. Very strange about the knees. The message is sort of hard to understand, but I hope it means they are planning to release some 100% new body sculpts. Always up to see that, and if the artist responsible for the newest generation of heads is involved in sculpting a new body, I look forward to the reveal. Though I can’t understand why they would need to simplify older bodies in order to release new ones, so maybe I’m way off. Single joints? Really? In this era?

With the neck, shoulder and thigh joints on the MGB body, I was really optimistic about the direction they seemed to be headed, as I tend to value mobility and expressive movement over static aesthetics. I actually want to buy one, but aside from low funds at the moment, I figured I should wait and see how they resolved tuning of the shortened shoulder peanuts’ fit. I hope they don’t give up on trying new things like that.

      Guess we wait and see...

I did my usual cranium reduction mod on those Bianca and Davina heads. (You know, the magnets they are using are powerful and quite thick. I was impressed as I dremeled them out and saw how deep they went. I also have to say I am impressed by how seamlessly Impldoll headcaps fit. I couldn’t get them quite that perfect again, but I think it’s a lovely detail and I am trying to be positive today, haha.) I was actually planning to find Bianca a new home, but decided I liked her unusual features too much not to give her a shot.I really like their current sculptor’s work, especially on the girls. Just the right amount of realism for my taste, and while the head sizes might not be popular across the board, they fit right in with my crew. I’ll certainly post them here when I’ve painted them.

I’m so sleepy. (Kid with the flu, probably skirting it myself.) Hope this rambling post makes sense. :yawn

    43. Impl sent me a head with the 2nd wrong green Ziv and it is gorgeous. It's a sculpt they're working on and they said the release date would be sometime in 2023. He's so new he doesn't even have a sculpt name yet. I intend to get him an Impl body but that needs to wait a little for funds and until I figure out who the heck he is. I also need to figure out what size neck he needs since Impl didn't say when I originally asked.

I'm not very demanding as far as posing goes. I do require that a doll can stand unaided (at least for the time it takes for photos to be taken) and they must be able to sit without falling over. Beyond that, I'm pretty easy to please. I am a little picky on the aesthetics of the body and some of the jointing appearances. I don't like the aesthetics of the Impl body with the shoulder shrug visual. It bugs me for some reason. I'm also generally not a fan of neck/shoulder joints even though it broadens the poses/head movement because it looks off to me to see a line/break there.

    44. I received my new Impldoll heads. I bought Davina, Aurora and Sadie heads. I'm in love with the new sculps. Davina and Sadie are really wonderful !
Bianca and Zona heads are gorgeous too. The Davina and Sadie heads are "bigger" than Bianca and Zona. I need a Dollzone B60 boy body for Bianca and Zona. Davina and Sadie heads are nearly perfect on my Soom 2016 66cm male body and my DF-H 65cm boy body. Impldoll pink skin is near from my Soom Raon baby pink color...

Here is a picture of the heads with face-up:

I am very happy with the new sculps from Impldoll.

    45. Glad to know I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of those shrug shoulders.
I have such a love/hate relationship with the SD bodies lol I love the height of the Idol's but the posability is a struggle. I put my Plaice on a Popodoll body 'cause I was over him being a beautiful brick lol.

Also hello, I am posting here for the first time in literal years XD

    46. Hello everybody! I just bought my first impldoll. I got the Zona on the 70cm body. I'm super excited because she's will be my only girl in my crew.
I do have some questions though. I can't seem to find any like.... 70cm clothing for big girls. Like am I just missing them? Or do they fit smaller sizes?
And second question. Does anyone have a impldoll in their dark tan? It's a beautiful skintone and I'd love to see a doll in it.
      Thanks!

    47. Bought a blank Deborah from DoA marketplace and took advantage of the Eudora introduction sale, so now Vanessa will share a body with 2 others!

    48. I'm now about 99% certain that my mystery head is Claude after looking at all the ones that look just slightly similar.
He's the only one with all the right features that also has the correct eye shape.

    49. Oh really @Leader of the Rats , I can't see the scoop out of the eyes in impldoll's photos, and to be honest, your head is much better looking than on the site. I do hope you'll give him a faceup :dance I love his mouth blank, which looks totally different in the unpainted sculpt

    50. I'm really loving how all the user photos of the newer heads are coming in. While I don't foresee myself owning a full Impl anytime soon, I still enjoy seeing owner pics of sculpts old and new. :D

@AkioMoichi Back when I mostly bought my dolls' clothes pre-made, I tend to go for Iplehouse EID/SID-sized clothing for the Starwoman body, looking for stretchy fabrics or lace-up for a larger margin of error. Just be aware that because the Impl Idol girl is long on the leg, things may be a little short length-wise. I've used Dollmore Model F thigh-high stockings and they work too. (But I avoid those that go over the hips because Impl's measurements are wide.)

My two crew favorites had their first outdoor shoot in a long while (IH Scarlet + Impldoll hybrid, Granado Noah). That was, until thunder boomed overhead and everyone in the meet had to scram to get all the dollies indoors before the rain soaked us all.

    51. Lovely shot @AntarelNefertili :)

Oh, it's Vanessa @Valdemagra :) she looks gorgeous there. I always love the in-person pictures, especially of the older sculpts better than on site.

    52. @IngieBee .
Oops, good eye. I should always list the sculpt! My doll buddy has the skill of knowing any sculpt she sees. I'm getting better at recognizing bigger companys, but I've a long way to go yet.

    53. Vanessa received the Deborah head for a great price from @LupusDarkmoon. I just love buying from like minded Doll People. Often I receive a personal Thank-you, which warms my heart and makes me smile. (This cute card was also full of stickers!)

The color batch of pink skin is quite different, but that shouldn't be very noticeable once the heads have face-ups.

As I've had to put the brakes on full doll purchases for financial reasons, I've decided that heads may give new thrills to owned bodies.

    54. I'm there with you on the bodies. I keep wanting to get my floating head bodies, but times are hard, then I think I should sell my heads, but it's so hard to part with them :doh but, they can mostly find a body to share. It just makes me feel guilty, taking a head off "it's body, LOL.

    55. I have 2 bodies to buy. One will be an Impl body to go with the gift head they sent me. The other is a RS body for Qayin's head. But.... there's this doll I've spotted on the 2nd hand market and I've loved the sculpt since the day I saw him and he's a good price and a full doll....

The temptations in this hobby are massive.

    56. It doesn't have a name yet from Impl. It's a prototype. It just has a number carved on the inside of the head. They said they plan on releasing it sometime next year. I'd asked them what sculpt it was because none of my friends that I asked to check for me could find it (I'm face-blind so likely wouldn't recognize it if I did see it) and I wanted to add the proper sculpt name for it to my dolly stats sheet.

It should fit on their larger body (it's bigger than the Model Ziv's). It has pointy ears that could possibly be used as a deadly weapon because they're so sharply pointed. It's in WS (it's paper white) so matching shouldn't be an issue.

    57. Ooh, if you have the time at some point, it'd be awesome to see a picture :dance
