Iffy auction?

May 5, 2007

    1. I did. They looked similar in the photos, and that's why I got my Kyrie out to look at her hands, but they're different enough for me to be comfortable. Like I said before, AOD hands look a lot more detailed, from those pictures, and I think the AOD fingers are shorter. I can't see whether or not they have the lines on the palms of the hands like Kyrie does, though. I'd have to see macro shots of the hands to decide.

    2. ClockworkAngel, while I know this has happened in the past, those scammers have taken known dolls athat are widely sought after. I've never seen a case where they tried to scam with all new completely unknown dolls?

I agree that everyone needs to use common sanse and caution but I don't think it's fair to automatically assume sellers with 0 feedback are untrustworthy. Everyone has to make their own decisions based on the info they receive and their comfort level, but I feel like now we are starting to get a better picture of what this company is about. They've made a lot of mistakes and have had communications problems but I still believe they are legit and it sounds like they are improving their communications and will have their international soon open for orders.
No one is forcing anyone to buy their dolls, but I think it's unfair to make these accusations without basis.

And I just don't get this bias against China and the perceived lack of quality. LOL! I've been told that many of the comapanies based in Korea actually send out their dolls to China for the resin and the same factories do the resin work for many different small compaines!

    3. Past experience, I guess. China has a bad rep of making cheap breakable toys and dolls. Also, they are well known for making cheap knock-offs of major brands (including BJDs!) and their lack of respect for international copyright laws.

    4. "Russian components, American components, ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!"
      -Lev Andropov, Armageddon ( 1998 )

that sums up my opinion on quality biases ;)

I agree, so many "American made" products are produced in China, then Assembled in the states, that it is very feasible that some companies in many countries including Korea and Japan do the same thing. (I am not saying they do, just that it is possible) let every company's product speak for itself, any country can cut costs.

    5. It's true that China has been synonymous for knock offs and cheap products, but without demand, there will be no supply. And guess where does China export most of their goods too?????? Without Chinese imports, I think I read somewhere, but don't quote me on this, we will be paying at least twice as much for over 50% of the products we use everyday. I think there are different types of BJD collectors out there. For those that quality and sculpt are of the ulmost importance, they should only shop with well established companies like Volks or Souldolls or Dollmore etc.. For those that are not willing or unable to pay the high price tag of $600.00, $ 800.00 or $1,000.00 and above, and are happy with lower priced but "somewhat comparable" BJDs, they can shop with the Chinese manufacturers. Now, "somewhat comparable" is a very subjective thing. What is comparable to me may not be comparable to you. Furthermore, one must bear in mind that you will never get a BMW with a Hyundai price tag.

    6. Ah, okay. Since you have actual Soom hands to look at instead of picutres, I'll trust your take on it then. :whee:

Oh, and just so everyone knows, I have nothing against Chinese companies. ^^; In fact, I'm buying a DZ boy at the end of the month! It was just all the mess-ups with the eBay auctions that made me a little suspicious in this specific case.

<_<...>_>...and I'm still eyeing that squinty-eyed 1/4 boy, whatever his name is...he's iiiiinteresting. XD

    7. Angel of Dream's international site is finally up and taking orders! :D

Our URL is http://www.angel-of-dream.com if you're too lazy to look through the previous pages. XD

We currently have an opening promotion where FREE faceups will be given to all doll purchases! You can also request for custom faceups. Promotion ends on the 15th of June.

Do note that as our shipping module is still under development, we will be emailing you the invoices with your shipping cost after you've placed an order. All items will be shipped via EMS.

For a rough estimate on shipping, please visit http://www.ems.com.cn/serviceguide/e-zi-fei-biao-zhun.html

    8. It could be due to the angle of the pictures or the faceup. ^^ G2 has a slightly longer face and rounder eyes while G1's eyes are a little sharper. Their eye sizes are about the same though.

    9. Yes, but my old Plymouth Champ, which was a Dodge colt knock-off w/an asian made engine (one of the first many years ago), ran better and lasted longer than most of the better known, well made cars of the same era! It got 36mpg/city - when the standard of the time was 18-20mpg city.

My point being, you may not get the BMW, but you might be surprised to get a great well running car that works & does what you need it to do for the Hyundai price tag!

More metaphores.... some of the best books I've ever read were not by well-know authors and were purchased from the grocery store check-out line - but not all check-out line books were good. You take a chance and sometimes you are surprised.

I'm hoping this is what Dream of Angel will be! A great surprise!

Besides - it isn't the company or the price tag that makes the doll - it's the doll that floats your boat, or speaks to you itself...

    10. I'll be keeping a close eye on this one - they've got a 1/4th sculpt that's dead on for a character of mine. Providing all is well, this could be a very good turn of events.

    11. Mr. Zhang just informed me that he has sent out my two sample dolls today; If everything goes according to schedule, I should receive them in a week, When I do, I'll post pictures. I think he is sending me the 1/3 Ming and the 1/4 girl with the closed eyes.

In response to Pegapup's post - Perhaps you have not been following my journey with AOD on the forum, but I am not advocating for people not to buy Chinese BJDs. On the contrary, they are great alternatives for people not willing or not able to pay big bucks for ABJD. I think AOD produces really good dolls at excellent prices, and I agree with you that we should collect dolls based on the look and feel of the doll itself and not on the brand or the price tag. However, I don't want people to have unrealistic expectations, after all, a two hundred plus AOD will not be the same as a one thousand dollar Volks. Even Mr. Zhang stated himself that altough his dolls are worth every penny and more of their price tags, they are not yet in the same category (for a lack of better word) as the long and well established Volks and some of the Korean doll makers.

I am all for AOD, and I'm looking forward to receiving my dolls.

    12. Got my tracking number today. Will let everyone know when I receive my doll!

    13. O good, i can't wait to hear your thoughts and see some pics LadyFeather. How long will it take for him to arrive do you think?
      :)

    14. Well, he left China today so I suppose another 4-5 days, unless EMS has a slow boat from China doing the delivery

    15. Will you be doing the obligatory 'arrival' pics for us? I for one can't wait to see the first AoD doll here on DoA. I really hope he exceeds all you expecations LadyFeather.

    16. Congrats LadyFeather! Can't wait to see him!

    17. I found this on ebay and it seems kinda wierd. I've never heard of these dolls before. Has anyone ever seen these before? link

    18. Angel of Dream is a new company--there's a bunch of discussion threads floating around about them ^_^

    19. They are the ebay store for angel of dream dolls:
      http://www.angel-of-dream.com/
there are threads for them in the mini section, and the news section :)

    20. In another thread in this section they thought it was fishy that the company had photos of the wrong doll and a photo of the correct doll in one auction. But the listing got straightened out so the photos were all correct.

      Here is the thread:
      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135767

There has also been a recent announcement of the company's existence somewhere in News.

      Carolyn

    21. Next question, does anyone OWN any of these dolls??

    22. I ordered one of the CICI dolls ...not a BJD , I so wanted the little box room :sweat
the communication was great ..and it arrived within days ..so no complaints from me

I love the look of that boy ...but I dont collect larger dolls

hope they make a tiny one day LOL

    23. I like the 1/4 chen and rao, and the sd gu may be my undoing as far as SD boys go... His eyes are very asian without looking too pissy.

    24. Their Chinese site has a section for 1/6, but they don't have any up yet. They're probably in development.

    25. In the first thread made about the auction ("iffy auction?") someone posted owner photos. I can't rememeber who though...

    26. Hello! I cannot wait to see everyone post pics of their new AOD dolls, as I am considering this to be my first 60 cm resin BJD to model my jewelry designs. I cannot decide between the two ladies, and I haven't even tried to figure out who is who, but I think it would be nice going with a new company. I need a model, and these look quite promising! Linda/LVNVDolls

    27. IIzumiyavi, the international representative does, she has pics in this thread (posts # 230, 252). Mine is on the way; once he gets here he will be photographed and pix posted for everyone.

    28. Thank you! I will keep watching this thread.

      Linda/LVNVDolls

    29. I've just ordered from the international site and will post when I get my dolls. I have to say I was totally inmpressed with the site - it WORKS! The shopping cart and checkout was successful with no problems and a few minutes later I had a paypal invoice and patyment instructions.

    30. Sounds great! I've almost made up my mind......I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks. Linda/LVNVDolls

    31. Please welcome ShenMi
      [IMG]

      First picture taken:

Evidently they haven't made any larger boxes yet.

Straight from the box to his feet - he is very stable.

Here he is between the two DZ guys I own. Birch is white skin while Qing Ting is normal skin. If this guy isn't a white skin I don't think I want to see one. He is ligher than Birch.

He twists well and doesn't 'pop' out of joint. Side note - he is as well endowed as a DZ.

Full front; below - full back

    32. Wow, he looks wonderful..........thanks so much for posting the pics, I really like him! Linda/LVNVDolls

    33. AWESOME!!! I bought a girl body for my DIM Odelia head...her old body poses for crap. At this point I don't care if the Resin matches or not I just want to be able to take pictures. He looks FABU!!!

    34. [IMG]

      ShenMi has a cuter butt!

Back of knee joints are similar

Ankles bend more on ShenMi than Birch

Knees bend slightly easier on Birch but that may be due to larger size

Same with elbow joints. This picture shows how the DZ slips on the upper torso joint

The torso joints are smoother on ShenMi than Birch.

    35. Lady Feather, thank you so much for the comparison and order pics!

    36. So, he arrived then!
I must say he looks pretty good to me LadyFeather, i'm glad that the whole transaction went well for you.
      :)
You did'nt say what you thought of the resin quality and overall finish - is it good?
I still want a Ming/Cheng or whatever he's known as now.

    37. Thanks for the pics LadyFeather. You've help me put a couple more ckecks on the "buy" side of the equation for me. *GRIN*

I second Mamehisa's question about quality & finish of the resin.

      Morgan

    38. Very nice pix, LadyFeather. You know what happened to my dolls, hopefully I'll get mine soon.

    39. I just bit the bullet and ordered a 1/4 'Chen' - i really like him and he will be my first MSD boy. Fingers crossed he is as nice as he looks when he arrives - i will let y'all know.

BTW Venture-1.........WHAT happened to your dolls? :?

    40. Everybody, on the resin - just as nice as any I own (DZ, DM, DOD, DIM). I did notice one or two minor imperfections but for the price they are nothing to worry about. He has a few shiny spots but so does my DIM limited, and he cost 3 times as much! He has no major seam lines showing, the weight is probably toward the lighter end, but there are no thin spots on him as I have heard of on other dolls. He is a solid doll and, as I said before, well worth the price.

    41. thanks lady feather, those photos are much more reassuring ^^ looks good, i might be off to tell my friend now ^^ she wants a big dollie from them.

    42. Hi Ladyfeather I dont seem able to find your boy on website, does he go under a different name? Or is it Gu? just looked again..

    43. Thanks LadyFeather, Hes really nice, I wase`nt sure so I ordered just a chan head last nite as I want to make the head into a girl. I have`nt got any SD size yet... very tempting...Now where is my hubbys creditcard again I wonder...

    44. @Lady Feather: Is your Shall a newer girl with the pinky skin tone? Please, please tell me that she matches ShenMi's resin color.

Awww, crud, nevermind, I see you called him white skin in the database. Same question to anyone else... Does AoD match DoD?

    45. While we're asking about colour matches, does AoD white match Bobobie white? As much as I love AoD's bodies, they're too mature for two of the ideas I have, and I don't like Bobobie's 43cm male head, but love the newest AoD boy's head for my angel character. >.x

    46. Eh - same kind of pose, but the AoD hands look much more detailed, and the thumb is more substantial and curved. Don't think so...

    47. hi guys!
I said I'd post once my own angel of dreams doll arrived. 62cm ming! He arrived within a week. He's pretty mobile, and his resin actually has pretty good weight and color to it (white) A good match for luts bw old resin actually, and I'm thinking perhaps a luts head might look nice on the body ^_^ So yeah, I'm pretty happy!

So there's my quick paragraph review, as promised! ^_^

    48. please try that ^^ I'm planning on a Shine head cos the body is too expensive for me if i get a Full El doll too. So AoD might just get my order on a boy body if it all matches well ^^

    49. My package was shipped out by AOD at the same time as Ladyfeather's on 5/16, it arrived in US on 5/19 and it went straight into US customs at JFK. This had happened to me once before, but the package was only there for about a day and I received my package right after that. However, this time, the wait was endless. I've been checking online everyday, several times a day, and it was just released by US customs this morning. Has anybody's package been held for this long? The EMS tracking system does not offer much info, and I am hoping to receive the dolls by tomorrow. keep your fingers crossed for me.

    50. Aww, customs just does that sometimes...I just had a girl send me two dolls for commission and customs kept them for 3 days. I was freaking out! Then they just quietly appeared at my door like it was no biggie. I wouldn't sweat it. If there was a problem, they would let you or the original sender know.

    51. I would be interested in hearing about this match also. Since I am interested in AOD and Bobobie dolls now.

    52. venture-1, I've had that happen before. The second time I ordered from Dollmore, it was just some eyes and a couple of wigs, and the package sat at customs for a week. x_o It's nerve-wracking.

    53. I'm still trying to find out if the colourmatch (Normal AND white) is horrible/good with mnf. x_x
The picture with the mnf shiwoo head doesn't show much skin.

    54. I've just emailed Izumiyavi about it^^

Unfortunately I think I just missed her since it's about 2am in singapore now?

    55. I ordered a female white skin body from them (so inexpensive O_O, i'm going to mod it male for my new bishi boy) and a dreaming white shiwoo head to go on it. So we'll see how close! judging by my memory it'll be a very close match, as I've had about 15 different shades of luts white skin before ^_^;

    56. oooh thanks! I'll wait for that. I'm going through a mental battle of a CP/AoD hybrid Shine or a Abio Angel Yi >__< maybe i can have both one day. Tho it will be over crowding in room.... at least the dollies can sleep in spare room.

    57. I finally received the dolls on Friday and I took some pix of them. since pix of 1/3 Ming have been posted before, I'll post mostly the pix of 1/4 Nana.

    58. so the girl is a 1/4 doll, right?
did you request for her makeup, or is that default?
